This is a very great channel! As a garbage truck enthusiast, I’m glad to see more maintenance videos. I’m starting to gain an interest in roll offs now.

Thank you sir or ma’am. I make them when I’m able to. Getting to busy season now. What’s a nice comment.

Galbreath roll off parts refer at to the end loop as a D-ring but call it whatever lol also 2 ft from the top of the back roller to the bottom of the D-ring Is typically what is standard by galbreath and that’s what i put them at and it seems to work Great video!

I had no idea haha. Everyone here just calls it the loop. 2ft from the tail roller to the start of the knot? I wish I’d known that. We have a couple Frankenstein tanks and a guy needs at least that to reach back into the dog house. I appreciate your comment.

My rolloff winch doesn't want to go out or in what is the reason?

@@MikesMischief if you don't have enough cable you can always raise the hoist some more and it will give you more cable even if you have to pickup the rear of the truck

Brother I wish I could come out and show you an easier way to do that

I always weld them together and pull it through with a forklift. Done in about 30 minutes. Get you a braided cable puller. That will help also.

They used to hook the loop onto a tank and undo the clamps and then drive forward. Then spend 5 hours fishing the new one back through the pulleys. I thought there had to be a better way. I begged them to give me an hour and if it didn’t work I’d do it their way. I wasn’t sure if the weld would hold but it does.

We got two guys at the yard right now fishing one through. I tried to tell them

Haha. Damn. I used to haul scrap cable from the drag line cranes at a coal mine. 3”&4” thick and miles long. I asked them how they string the new one. I am 90% certain that’s where I got the idea. Next time.

Maybe they can get a 1” rope and fish that through. Unwind the first foot and wrap the strands around the cable and use some gorilla tape and wrap it up a bunch. It might be strong enough.

Hey. Do you know how to increase the pressure on the cable system? I have a 75k that's weak. @@MikesMischief

I used a chain to pull the old Cable out and relined it just in two hours and was ready for work I needed to replace the cylinder seals next not bad for a Philadelphia boy 😜

That’s how they wanted me to replace this one. They didn’t think the weld would hold through the pulleys. This probably took me 2 hours when you add in moving the camera and I had to shorten the cable. There are hard working folks all over the US. 🤘🔥

How long did it take you to do it ? That was impressive !

I can do it by myself in about an hour and a half if everything goes smoothly. Moving the truck twice and having to reposition the ties and a couple coffee breaks made this about a 3-4 hour deal this time.

Try putting a clamp on the cable to help chain grip

Any advise on the best way to remove one of the cable hoist cylinders? I have everything disconnected but that 2" pin up near the cab looks like it will be very hard to deal with.

    • @MikesMischief

I would try with the hoist raised up partially and blocked. Lower it down onto some forks or a pallet.
