I love big diesel trucks, heavy equipment, big engines, torque, antique equipment, fast cars, motorsports, working with metal, history, physics, fixing broken stuff, working hard, goofing off and spending time with my family.
I’m not an expert or certified on anything but I have over 2 decades of experience working in different shops performing everything from maintenance and light repairs to complete rebuilds. My “training” has come from various classes, experienced mentors/coworkers, certified experts, manuals/books, videos and sometimes just by trial and error. I’ve been a truck driver for 20 years.
Making youtube videos is a hobby for me. I try not to take myself or my videos too seriously. My videos are intended for entertainment purposes only. If something seems really far fetched in one of my videos there’s a good chance that it’s not meant to be taken seriously.
Thank you all for your time and support I love you all!

Ryobi 40V 15” String Trimmer Cordless Weed-eater Review
They sell extra deep sockets that make it really easy. You can also just hook up that air line and release the brakes on the vehicle which is how I always did it. Don't forget to chock the wheels.
You can’t use an impact wrench on a caging tool.
@MikesMischief you most certainly can. You are one of very few techs out there not using an impact. If you don't have 20 of those caging bolts laying around for when one gets chewed, you got a lot to learn. Even without an impact the threads will fail after only 20 cycles of compressing that 40klb spring. If you hooked it up and used the trucks air system you don't even need any tools. Infact most come compressed for that reason because you need it fully caged as well as any others on that axle to set your rod length correctly. To see you have a new chamber on the bench without the caging bolt set tells me right off the bad I would likely have to fire you from my shop due to lack of experience.
You’re not supposed to use an impact wrench to cage a brake can. Look it up on the Bendix website. This is a fact established by the manufacturer not an opinion.
www.bendixvrc.com/itemDisplay.asp?documentID=4904 Page 4 halfway down the right side of the page between points 8&9. Can you tell me what that says?
@MikesMischief that chamber you have on the table is brand new sir. You are confusing this thread with the one where I called you out for not taking proper promotions when dealing with a broken chamber. Obviously if you value your life you would not use an impact on a chamber that is cracking, you would not cage a cracked chamber at all. Caging it applies the maximum amount of force possible on that Crack making it way more likely to rupture. I highly recommend you get retrained on air brake systems. Bendix offer an amazing program I encourage you to check out. You know before you get yourself and other inexperienced diesel mechanics killed
I like it thanks!
You know our world is full of dumb people when they have to put permanent clamps on boosters to stop people knocking their heads off.
You called people dumb in a run on sentence btw. Also it would be “stop people *from* knocking their heads off”. Dude you come into a shop at 3:00 am before the coffee and nicotine has started working. Lay under a stank ass garbage truck in the dark while avoiding the nightly floor maggots. The cans are opposing each other on a lot of trucks so it’s the back clamp on the front axle and the front clamp on the rear axle. Or is it the front clamp on the front can and the rear clamp on the rear can? There’s an entire generation that doesn’t want to work. Those 5-15 year guys aren’t around as much to teach the young grass hoppers. They should’ve been permanent since their conception. A groggy morning should result in a smashed thumb, a hydraulic oil bath, maybe bang your head on the corner of the drivers door when standing up. It shouldn’t result in brains being all over the underside of a truck. Imagine a boss willing to risk little Timmy’s life to save $30 by reusing the rusted out, fatigued, old a** can. Risking someone’s life to save a spring and cover that are beyond fatigued. By the time you pay the guy an hour of time it’s literally not even saving any money. Half of the time the grove for the caging bolt is corroded out, or kicked off to the side, or blocked. It’s completely unsafe to trust those 2 little cams in there to hold a spring with 500 lb/si of linear force. They’re junk when a pancake goes or hire someone else to take them apart. Then I’m going to go look for an employer that doesn’t make me use both sides of the TP in the bathroom.
How is this a hack...
Well get yourself a combination wrench and a brake chamber and try backing the spring-brake off with that. Lmk how long it takes…
Um no because they make a socket for chambers.
@jeffreyadkins5014 Yeah and with it you’re still relying on those 2 little ears made out of non- American cast-aluminum inside the can to compress a spring with 500 lbs/si of linear force. My tool is called a blow gun. You can dust off or out your vehicle, shoot flies out of the air, fill balloons, clean out tight areas… a million other things and hey…. It can even inflate the diaphragm inside of a brake chamber compressing the spring with air. Yeah the tool is still holding the spring by the internal ears but, holding force is less than pulling force. What else can your socket do besides sit awkwardly in a tool box waiting to be used 3x a year? It’s just a 3/4” extra deep socket that you probably won’t be able to find when you need it… it’s not rocket science. You still have to turn it by hand with a wrench and hug the can for 5-10 min while your turning it…. Wait… Don’t even come on here trying to sound like some expert and tell me you use an impact wrench on a hardened steel spring inside of a brake can…. That’s an actual no no….. Tisk/tisk you naughty boy. I don’t buy 1 tool with 1 use unless there’s no other way. I prefer 1 tool with many uses.
Dude you need help. They make a socket. Fucking use it.
I would never be anywhere near that unless I wanted to die.
Ok. You find this can on your truck what do you do? Going to scrap the whole truck? Someone is going to have to get under there and tempt fate eventually. You can cut a small hole in the can with a torch and try to nip the spring in half but the heat could cause that crack to let go completely. Ideally you could probably cut the push-rod at the face of the can and at the yoke. Take some pressure off of it.
@MikesMischief lol calm down bud of course someone is going to have to change it. You posting a video mentioning nothing about the danger makes you a risk to new mechanics we have in the field. It's not a lesson someone gets to learn, that's instant deathr right there. I likely would stay on the other side of it leaving the hose attached, not caging it, and letting it fly off after removing the V band clamp. The hoses will stop it from going to far and you will be on the safer side of it. Where you were positioned to take this video tells me right away you lack experience doing this and don't take the safety warnings given by trainers seriously. I hope the mistake that teaches you a lesson leaves you still able to work afterward.
@Jameskelvin89 if a new mechanic doesn’t know the risk of a brake can he shouldn’t be out there working on one. It’s a short clip from a longer video. I used to think yt shorts derived its name from the short length of the videos. I feel more and more everyday that they’re named after the people watching them while riding the short-bus.
@MikesMischief lol ya I really wish they would put an obvious botton on the shorts to get you to the whole video. Some aren't even new mechanics, some are owner operators just trying to save some money.
@Jameskelvin89 the bottom right hand corner of the short is a link if the creator uses it. There are videos of cobras, cars, and every other dangerous thing you can think of on yt. There’s no warnings on those. A driver needs to know about brake cans to get a CDL. They should be required to cage a brake but I’m sure it’s just mentioned and not shown. I’ve been around this stuff for 3 decades so brake can dangers are as common a vernacular as the dangers of a cobra. I made the original video years back and didn’t think anyone would ever watch it. I think I had 50 subs at that time.
Great Video now in Ca starting on Jan 1, 2024 no longer can buy 2 stoke gas powered units. Existing gas powered units can still be serviced and repaired. Pro landscape folks will go to Nevada, or Az if they want new 2 stoke equip.engines.
I guess I’m not sure with chainsaws. But I personally would never go back to a 2 stroke trimmer. They give me a headache. They’re noisy, stinky and if you don’t use them regularly the fuel gums up and they can be a real pain to start. I think electric will be really convenient for some applications and not so convent for other things. Most gas has 10% ethanol in it. Ethanol is hydrophilic meaning it attracts moisture. It can mix with water molecules suspended in air even on a dry weather day. It literally puts water into your fuel system. It seems the smaller the engine the more this affects the operability. My gf has a ryobi 40v or 80v? push mower and that thing works really well for her lot in town and she’s had it for 4 years.
Yes chain saws include, 2 stroke dirt bikes, anything with 2 stroke engines no more. I have 14" ryobi chain saw for my needs works great, as with my 20" ryobi lawnmover same battery platform for all my ryobi equip.

Parts are made to fail 😢😢😢
I just think that the shear-key should go before the housing. I don’t know what my boss hit but I’ve hit some pretty big rocks since I made this video. The blade bent and the new spindle housing didn’t break. These aren’t a John Deere. The factory spindle assembly’s were made of inferior metal. The replacements seem to be much better.
You guys are awesome! I’m trying to make one out of a barrel and didn’t see any vids on youtube except yours. What a good dad! Kids and cats over curb appeal :) I didn’t think to use the barrel upright instead of horizontally.
It worked really well for 3 years. Mom cat (sugar) took off after the kitten weaned. The kitten (cinnamon) we had for 3 years he was an outside/inside rural cat. If I wasn’t home he would go into the barrel with a heat lamp and he loved it. Unfortunately he got in a cat fight last year and his wounds turned septic so we had to send him to the other side of rainbow road. I have his ashes in a container in my closet to be buried with me when it’s my turn. He had a gf cat that started hanging around we named her Goldie. Once cinnamon went my gf started giving her treats. She used the barrel a few times but my gf is here all the time now and constantly checks for Goldie. She quit using the barrel and I took it off of the front porch because I’m planning to redo the porch. I’m going to put the house under the porch once it’s rebuilt. I did the raised floor because the ground will suck a lot of heat out of whatever is sitting on it. It also gave the cat some security and blocked the wind. The opening to go up was 33° from the door so wind couldn’t whip right in and out.
Great video. Does the bump and feed work ok? I dont think you mentioned that feature. Is it hard to reload the string? That was a big issue with my stihl.
Yeah the bump head works great. It’s the easiest string to reload that I’ve ever reloaded. You cut like a 8-10’ piece of string. Then you slide one end back into the feed hole. It’ll come out the other feed hole. You mark the string at halfway and pull it in until it’s equal on both sides. Then that green handle thing is used to wind the center part and it literally just winds inside like when you’re slurping spaghetti noodles in on Italian night. I can wind it with just my hand but the tool is handy. You’ll never go back to winding string and then trying to get it back into the carriage without creating a birds nest again. I’m going to throw my Stihl into my scrap trailer the next time I haul a load in. Admittedly I’m an armature video maker and this was 100% organic. I just wanted to open the box, assemble it and use it a bit for the video, no prompting, no research, not sponsored at all. I didn’t realize how handy the winding tool was until after I made the video. It is revolutionary. I should maybe do an update video or something.
@@MikesMischief It's still a very informative video and you have a great sense of humor. Your well appreciated reply just cleared everything up. They will work in a pinch. A good set of hooks is like a pneumatic or electric impact wrench…. Once you use them you know too much and can never go back.
Would some silicone spray help with that?
If you do a lot of hauling in high heat areas these boots can slip out from under the clamp. I use a little grease on coolant hoses but I want my intercooler boots on dry to prevent them from slipping out of the clamp. Plus using the pick and hearing the crackle as you break the grip is oddly satisfying.

Maybe 15-30 min of cutting.
It taste like medicine in a bad way it is disgusting.
When I was in basic training they told us not to put Gatorade into our canteens. I didn’t listen and later found out why. Once the Gatorade is gone and you refill it with water it will have a hint of the Gatorade tase forever but without the sugar. Mixed with the taste of the plastic canteen it would make the water taste terrible. That’s what the Bubly drink reminded me of.
Did I hear it starting to run away at the end or was that a different vehicle?
No this one never ran away. It still runs today.
@@MikesMischief That's so awesome 😎
Good stuff. Trash truckers know this struggle don’t stop.
I’ve gone on a good run of having plugs work🤞. I’ve only had to patch 1 in the last year that wouldn’t take a plug. I filmed this a couple of years ago. I worked at a tire store when I was younger and I was staunchly against plugs until I turned about 38 and was still patching them on my rolloff. It hit me that if the plug worked I wouldn’t even have to take the tire off of the truck and my back wouldn’t hurt for a week so I tried one and it ruined me.
@@MikesMischief oh yeh man, my wife’s car has 2 plugs, my pickup has 1, and I don’t hesitate to plug tires at all. Unless: the plugs is on the very edge of the tread or sidewall. I was using one of those to cut coping when I was working on pools and the blade broke and kicked off my finger and that was some of the worst pain I ever felt
I was using a twisted braid wire wheel on a the removable floorboard of a 1990 Kenworth W900. It caught on one of the edges and kicked back at my hand. Tore my shirt and jeans up a bit and I was bleeding from a few fingers but they were all there. I usually use 2 hands with a wire wheel especially when it’s a twisted braid but I was doing it on a gravel parking lot and I was using one hand to brace the panel and the other to run the wire wheel.
Where is your guard and ppe. That is a safety violation
This was filmed in a 3rd world country. The technician was wearing ear and eye protection which is overkill in Bangladesh. He was forced to wear some American attire that they had lying around in a donation box.

Im gonna try this with our fuel truck in the morning.
Most fuel trucks are medium duty class 3-6 and sometimes they have features closer to a pickup. Like a Motorhome or a pop truck. You’ll see 6&7 speed Spicers or automatics in them. I had a 2007 F-750 class 6 service truck with a crane and it had a clutch safety switch. The cab was ford. If it’s older or a class 7&8 it shouldn’t have a clutch safety switch.
Ya let’s take tips from the guy with no guard or gloves
Just the tip… 5” disks last a lot longer but don’t fit with the guard on. Guards are for people that don’t know how to use a cutting disk or grinder. Gloves are for weenies that can’t handle the sparks. Eye protection and ear protection is plenty. Just hide them when osha shows up and you’re good.
