    Q:What camera do you use?
    A: I use the Go Pro Hero 7 Black Edition primarily. Often times you will see auxillary cameras in use. Those cameras include The Go Pro Hero 6, Hero, and DJI Mavic Pro Platinum
    Q: How big Is your rotator?
    A: It is a 50 ton Miller Industries Vulcan 950
    Q: Does the carriage slide back like Ron Pratt's?
    A: No, the carriage doesn't slide back due to strict weight laws in California. The sliding carriage will make the truck to heavy in CA
    Q: Why do you only have 3 winches on the rotator?
    A: Comes down to weight again as stated above
    Q: How many trucks Does Plaza Towing have?
    A: Currently more than 30
    Q: Why must the driveshaft be removed to tow a vehicle?
    A: When vehicles are not running the transmission is not receiving circulating lubricant. If the driveshaft is left installed, the transmission, which is not receiving lubricant, is still spinning. This allows it to get very hot which eventually will cause major damage to the transmission. Therefore, removing the driveshaft completely eliminates the transmission from spinning. Simply leaving it in neutral is not sufficient since the transmission still spins in neutral.

    Rewrapping winches should be at least a monthly maintenance item as you can also inspect the line for damage, or at first sign of bird's nesting, which is a primary cause of flattened cables. Only way to fix it and make the cables last.
    My trick for rewrapping was a little F550 light duty wrecker, leave her in reverse and pull her in, while staying up top guiding/inspecting line. Just make sure to keep an eye on the nose of the little truck when it gets close. Sucks when you pull it in the air.

    I like the behind the scenes Maintenance of the truck's. I also love all of the truck's there grate looking and work well. I worked for a tow company in NY. And preventive maintenance was never in equation. Good Job.

    Sir Trent !!!! No matter how old the equipment is,,there's always work to do on them !!!!! Better to do at the shop instead of at the wreck site where time is the issue !!! KEEP IT SAFE !!!!!

    I'm surprised at how long the drag winch cable is. Good call on replacing the Landal winch cable. 9 years, you definitely got your money's worth outta that one. Good video and enjoying the vlogs as well Jr. 👍🇺🇸

    Drag winch needs some serious weight to set that cable in. Its not broken in yet, i noticed as it was being wound up it bows up a bit, still has some spring in it from being new.

    Man, my old man had a crane service, We do this yearly having 4 or 5 cranes (he buy and sell all the time). We fixed bent ones for other people to. He used to say, it takes a crane to fix a crane.

    You guys should get some white lithium grease to use for spray lubricant, wd-40 stops being a lubricant as soon as it's dry (which is like 2 minutes after you spray it on.) WD-40 even has their own version of it, though I'm not the biggest fan of WD-40's grease. We use LPS Labs white lithium grease with PTFE, it's great stuff, pretty cheap and also has rust/oxidiation inhibitors to prevent rusting.

    You didn’t say if there was a safety arm in place while working under the rotator boom but I wouldn’t trust being under it in case of a hydraulic failure without one. Keep the great videos coming.

  • @DoRC
    @DoRC 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Just FYI wd40 really isn't a lubricant. It's more of a solvent and disappears very quickly.

    Mix diesel with gear oil and put on the cables That’s some good shit lubricant for the cables 💪🏼💪🏼

    • @simonsms410
      @simonsms410 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Old gear oil alone works great too. Life of the cable on my boat trailer almost triple after I started to lube regularly instead of use the cable dry.

    How long do the wooden decks on the trailers typically last? I expect that sometimes they can go longer than other times depending on any fluid leaks out of the loads.

    How often do you have to change the cable on these? Or the Rotator?

  • @jamesstepp9982
    @jamesstepp9982 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is there any truth to the story that a cheaper grade of cable will "rats-nest" easier than the expensive cable? I notice that your cable is more likely to spool back on the drum straight even without any tension than mine EVER does. I'm still using the cable my winch came with from Ramsey. I've thought about building a fairlead with an adjustable tensioner on it-maybe then it would roll back on a little cleaner.

    I have a question if you will. Is there a state mandated maintenance schedule your trucks have to go through in order to keep them certified? I have been curious about that. Thank you.
