First and foremost, You do not need to be a psychologist or a doctor of medicine to play AFL or GAA or sport for that matter. Its shallow to suggest otherwise. I've watched AFL and I enjoyed their league, However on a few occasions in The International series a few tackles were over the top that was just unnecessary or welcome in any level of sport. As far as this series goes no happy medium has been found. Its either off the ball scrapes for two quarters or just complete boredom.
well i dont know any australian players but i know theres only one dublin player on the irish team and they were all ireland champions ...... i think the majority of the had club commitments so couldnt come
The top 15 players in the Brownlow Medal last year didn't play, that was a Australian 3rd side. Australia hasn't cared about International Rules in 10 years, the best players always pull out, if it was up to the players and fan's we would get rid of it.
The mark rule ruins it for me, it's why I much prefer Gaelic to Aussie Rules. The mark rule means the game is too stop/start. The main appeal of Gaelic for me is how fast it is with almost non-stop action, which makes it much more enjoyable to watch than rugby and at times even football.
you also have to remember that most of these irish lads dont get paid for playing were as the AFL players do get paid as pro's, but ireland still wooped them lol
VOLGORE Well, if your full time pros' can't get the measure of students, plumbers, etc, who play part time as a hobby, you better rethink that one. Aussie 'football' is only a poor imitation of our National sport anyway.

I'd like to see a series using the Aussie ball, none of the Aussies play with the round ball. There is more Irishmen use to the sherrin than the other way round.
The Irish play this game with many disadvantages. The round ball is one of if not the only advantage they have? Pro athletes versus amateurs who work full time jobs. Tackling is much cleaner in GAA, and also they never defend against taking a mark with a catch.
If I saw correctly Pierce Hanley was on the Irish team. He plays for Brisbane Lions though in the AFL. I don't quite understand why this is? Please someone fill me in.
Why Do Australians complain that the never have the best players playing? Why do none of your top players represent their country? Dosnt make sense to me ...
I don't know, but we never have our good players - Gary Ablett, Scott Penulbury, Nic Natinui, these guys are some of the best and they never play, to them our national sport AFL is more important
your dead right its a game that is a mess doesn't represent either game. The crowd is very poor, although there is more interest in ireland still thats only because the series is held after the championship
The Mark rule creates contest players kick to packs more because you can kick the ball by your self, in Gaelic Football there is no where near as many for that reason. I don't like how you can't pick the ball of ground of the ball in Gaelic & you can't tackle. It makes it no longer is the better athlete at winning the ball, its who is better under a very contrived set of rules.
Further, Dublin is home to 1.27 million out of 4.58 million people in the country, roughly a quarter. So you are factually wrong. And who are you to define what Irish is for the rest of us?
Actually, there is some difference when it comes to religion. Dublin tends to be more liberal, but the whole country is catching up. There are some rural/ urban differences, but that's similar to other cities. Would you say that Paris is not really France? Also, Dublin is the biggest city and income earner for the country, so it's important to give priority to it's main roads(especially in a recession).
