Really fun to watch, it was terrific to hear your spouse point out some of the things that Oversimplified left out or got slightly wrong...I especially loved the mythbusting she did of things like Paul Revere's shouts and ride. This is definitely one of Oversimplied's better video series, with a good balance of facts, jokes and run time...and I usually only comment on the joke he/they make about the British government asking the American colonists nicely to pay back the money spent on the 7 Years War, which is obviously not the way the British government went about getting money from the American colonies.
Looking forward to more history stuff.

The Declaration of Independence was a unique document at the time, but some of the ideals weren't completely out of left field. For one, the Manga Carta had some ideas of liberty imbedded. Also, John Locke and primarily the Virginia Constitution and Declaration of Rights had a huge influence on Jefferson.

These are great, y'all. As an historian myself (Epidemiology, African American, ancient Near Eastern, and British History), I am loving these history videos.
Buff, I think maybe you're referring to the Quartering Acts which required the colonists specifically to house and feed the British soldiers whenever the numbers exceeded their barracks, etc. These acts...did Not go over well. Lol).

Having the worst time ever. My maternal grandmother is Cherokee, but is not on rolls. She was born in NE Arkansas, Birth Certificate say Star City. She knows nothing of her story. We can't trace back her native ancestry

Was wondering, did you and the wife ever see the tv show, "Turn?" It's about George Washington's spy network based on Long Island. I think it ran 5 seasons. Being that I live on Long Island and recognized many of the places in the show, I was curious to see how accurate your wife thinks the show is if she saw it. Oh, I see that you did. LOL.

Oh and,ma'am, you need to do more oversimplified. But speak up! Don't wait for hubby to ask you a question. You're a history teacher, teach. I've watched many history teachers react to oversimplified as well as a couple other great history videos such as the Hustory oc the entire world I guess, the fallen of ww2 which as won quite a few awards, and boatlift:the story of 9/11. And each teacher would add more context and knowledge as this video is thorough but it's not meant to be in depth. Many history teachers went on to show this and the others I mentioned in their classes bc you LEARN much more from an engaging video than a dry textbook.

I think this was the first video she did with me, so she was very nervous and asked I controlled the flow. She's done a few since and has opened quite up. She'll get there. And no, I'm not the domineering husband type, since here i am talking for her lol. I just get all the comments.

I wish he talked more about the Southern Campaign as SC has the most Revolutionary War battles and skirmishes. General Francis Marion is also a forgotten hero. Tarleton essentially named him the Swamp Fox.
Also I have an ancestor who fought at Kings Mountain. Thomas Jefferson basically called that battle the turning point of the war. Col. Patrick Ferguson was the only Brit at the battle. When the Tories initially tried to surrender they shouted “Quarter!” The Patriots shouted back “Tarleton’s quarter!” Which meant they were going to give back the brutality of the British. If it weren’t for Cleveland, it likely would’ve ended up a massacre.
One final thing is tradition says you’re supposed to put a rock on Ferguson’s grave on Kings Mountain to send him one stone closer to Hell.

Its not the only time either that there was some almost fateful weather interruptions to possible British dominance of America. In the War of 1812, when Washington DC was taken they started the looting and burning only to have a severe thunderstorm hit where a tornado ended up causing major British casualties and abandoning the city.

    • @MikeH96H

@@davidmacy411 Seems like they were never meant to maintain their empire in north america. Even though the War of 1812 was a sideshow for them because of Napoleon, it also shows how much luck America had not only in gaining but also maintaining the Independence. 😁
