    Many times you’ve commented that you don’t really understand why some of us who are already fluent watch your videos. This great video exemplifies why I do. I already use all these forms (or “asegúrese” if using Ud) and I’m using them correctly, but could not have told you WHY one or the other. I’d be like Linda, “It sounds right.” I really like understanding the “why”, especially that nuanced difference between indicative and subjunctive. Mil gracias una vez más. (Idea - if you ever want to address written Spanish, I’d love a clear explanation of when to use the tilde in más/mas, cuando/cuándo, cuanto/cuánto, porque/porqué etc.. I’ve read up on it, discussed with groups of native-speaking friends (who didn’t always agree amongst themselves), but it still hasn’t stuck…

    I've been watching your videos for almost a year & you've really helped me along with my spanish. Funny thing is I took spanish classes in 6th, 7th & 8th grade and got an F every single semester. Then later on life I started working at an institution where most of the employees & clientele spoke spanish. I then started to pick it up while being immersed in that environment. My girlfriend is Colombian & she's learning english now, but at a slower rate than she would like. The question I have for you is, is there a channel similar to yours you can recommend for her. Where the person is teaching English, but explaining in the student's native tongue (spanish) sumilar to what you do with us native English speakers?

    I wanted to add a negative form such as "El padre de Juan no se aseguró de que Juan hiciera lo que su profesor le pidió." I think that’s right. Juan’s father did not assure himself that Juan did what his teacher asked of him. It took me a long time to remember that the negative command can’t be combined as in the positive. Also because it’s easy to forget the "de" I think of it as "make sure of/about + . Ojalá todo vaya bien para los dos

    Great that you stuck asegurate in there after a question cause I have one about Gustar. I'm comfortable using me gusta, te gusta etc, but how does gusto represent me in Te gusto, which means you like me. I know it's similar to your Caer Bien video where A Maria le caigo bien means Maria likes me, but gusto stops me cold. I hate asking because they say kids learn easier cause they focus on how and not why, but a kid I'm not lol.

    Can you say asegurarle a Juan saca la basura antes de vuelva a la casa.
    I want to know for context reasons. It's like a process of eliminación for me.
    Also, I believe that asegurarse is a promonimal verb that in this case is reflexive right?
    I want to edit. That I'm trying to say what you're saying but with le instead.
    And it may be "de volver a la casa" and not vuelva

    • @QrooSpanish
      @QrooSpanish  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Raymond,
      No, you can't use it the way you proposed. Asegurar has different meanings when it is not pronominal. As far as being relfexive, I suppose it could be if you thought of it as "to assure oneself". Personally, I view them all as pronominal so it never really matters to me if one is technically reflexive or not.
      To use this expression, you will have to keep it as asegúrate -- because you are telling them to make sure that something happens. Other options are to say, "Tell Juan to take the garbage out before returning home." Dile a Juan que saque la basura antes de regresar a casa (or volver a casa). The reason why it wouldn't be antes de que is because there is no subject change in the second part. Juan is the person taking out the garbage and returning home.

    Hey Paul, I love and may be addicted to your channel. I sure have learned a lot from you. I thought you might find this interesting and please forgive me if you are aware and just didn't think this was pertinent for the purpose of this lesson. My Salvadoran wife was listening just now as I watched this lesson and she made the following comment: I would not use asegurate with the accent on the U when speaking to family or friends because it sounds too much like giving an order. She says she would use asegurate with the accent on the final A and it would get the same idea across without an unneeded authoritative tone. Maybe this is more of a Salvadoran thing. What do you think?

    • @QrooSpanish
      @QrooSpanish  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing that. I have never heard or seen it with the stress placed on the "a"; however, pronunications do differ by region. Your message peaked my curiosity and I started looking for the word on Salvadorian sites. I found it either written with an accent on the u or no accent at all. Coincidentally, "asegúrate" popped up on this Salvadorian government Facebook page in the last hour: m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02cujtuKCwoWfqfCvTpJt87ntj6NeC3Kyt6nVoUCkYDy9ysWYh7jY98truTR1t1r8fl&id=100069384421769&mibextid=Nif5oz

    Thanks, Paul ... I'm getting better at recognizing the subjunctive triggers ... however, I'm much fuzzier at recognizing the need for subjunctive on the English side. Is the change in subjects the trigger to look for ... "you" make "Juan" ... but why "before it rains?" Are we back to WEIRDO?

      Don't even ask me about the English side...lol. There's a reason why I don't teach English. :)

      Ha! I get it. Not sure I was clear. I'm still translating in my head so when I want to say something... I'm still fuzzy about whether or not it needs to be subjunctive when I go to Spanish. You've helped me immensely on recognizing the Spanish triggers. Still not clear about knowing when Subjunctive is called for when I'm forming the sentence in my head. I'm going back through the whole Subjunctive playlist again ... maybe it will all sort itself out. You are truly the best teacher I've found ... and I've been through a LOT of them. I think I could use one whole video on just when subjunctive is called for. I've got the conjugation and the triggers but not the when to use it. You don't need to respond (you must get way too many emails) ... just a thought on this issue. I'll keep plugging away ... you've convinced me this is critical when I thought it was something that would come later. ;-)

    Paul can you make a video on supone que or if someone is supposed to do something? It’s quite hard for English speakers and I never get the grasp fully

    I have a video suggestion please. I've always been confused on when to use the article in Spanish. Is it "me encanta cafe" or "me encanta el cafe"?

      Me encanta el café, me gusta el café, disfruto mucho del café

      You don't use articles when you say proper nouns (names, towns, countries). For example you don't say Me gusta el México or Me gusta el Pedro. But there are other situations where you don't use the articles like when you say I never drink coffee, you say Nunca bebo café instead of Nunca bebo el café
