Nick Saban goes full on rant regarding Alabama fans

- Alabama head coach Nick Saban went full rant mode Wednesday night on his weekly radio show with Eli Gold regarding Alabama fans and their at times lack of appreciation for the standard at Alabama that Saban and his staff have built. Video is courtesy of the University of Alabama Athletics.
Florida Gators fan here but all u Bama fans should be grateful that y’all got to see your team win many recent sec championships and many recent national championships. Not many other college football fans can say the same about their team.
Most of these idiots that get on social media and say ignorant stuff like "Bama needs to fire Golding, fire O'Brian, do this ,do that." Or "Bama shouldn't be losing to Texas A&M, or beating Arkansas by a touchdown. " These are all bandwagoners, or really young fans that either have no clue what Bama went through in the early 1950's with the J.B "Ears" Whitworth era, or the late 90's, early 2000's with the Dubose, Shula era. Only reason I brought up the Whitworth era is because alot of the older Bama fans know about how that was the worst 3 yrs of Bama football. And I study Bama football and have since I started watching them at 8yrs old, in 1986. So I know exactly what true fans feel. But these idiots that have no idea need to sit back and chill. The SEC is a grind, and this ain't the pee wee leagues.

I refer to the era between Stallings and Saban as the dark years. Though Alabama did have winning seasons they also had losing ones as well and the program was nearly destroyed by the NCAA.
There are those fans who've never had to go through any of that and those fans are still relatively young. If someone over 40 is going off about Bama football well they have shit for brains is all I can say.
Saban is human, He can't and won't win them all. But he is the best coach in college I do believe.

@@ericaberg8705 Totally agree, Erica! We at OU have enjoyed our 10+ win seasons and danced around Nattys for the past 15+ years. Brent has help Clemson figure it out and get theirs--developed great players (along with a great coaching staff). We've been needing a rebuild for some time, and I (as do many) believe BV is the guy. Much respect for Clemson here, too.
I know there are alot of Bama fans that don't get it. But alot of the belief that a team should slaughter another team, a really good team at that is caused by the media feeding their heads with nonsense. Saban is always honest when speaking to the media, fans, and his players. And not once has he said that his team should beat another team by a blowout. I'm glad he had this rant, especially with the season winding down, and at the most critical point of the season.
Thank you Saban! Thank your for saying it out loud and defending all the players as they deserve it! Not just Bama all players deserve to be appreciated. I watch as many college football games as possible. These boys get hurt and its heart breaking. Respect the game or don't watch.
I agree. Many Bama fans could not care less about their own players, especially when they are no longer suiting up in the UA football uniform. How many honor the past players who are now permanently disabled from this brutal sport?
What a great man and a good coach! Someone who is not afraid to give credit where credit is due, to those hard working players who deserve nothing less than praise. They have nothing and should have no reason to hang their heads if they lose. They are champions and should be proud. No one should try to take that from them. I am originally from Baton Rouge and I have always supported LSU even though I no longer live there. It was a sad day when the Tigers lost Nick Saban. He's a good man!

FSU fan here. If you can’t support and appreciate your players through 2 WHOLE losses, you don’t deserve to have the effort your teams players put into each game. It’s been hard being a Nole fan living in Bama country, but I have never stopped supporting my team and wearing my garnet and gold. Those young men deserve better.

So happy he came out and said this bc it don’t matter if we win another Natty, what he and the players have accomplished is RARE.. Saban loves our team, he loves Alabama, but he also loves football and he respects the other programs, coaches, and players. Idc what anyone says I would be happy to have Saban another ten years. Sure I would like to see Bama win another Natty b4 he retires for the players and for him. It’s not ALL Bama fans but we have been spoiled as fans bc we are only interested in winning championships now otherwise it’s a losing season but we should be happy we are doing as well as we are every year bc most teams are not perfect every single year but Bama has been as close as u can be for a long time. It’s ok now that GA is doing the same. At least that Natty is likely gonna stay in the SEC but even if it didn’t we should be happy for the teams that do win.

As an alum of LSU, I loved Nick when he was here, and hate (but don't hold it against him) that he left for the NFL and ended up at Bama. But if you listen to this video, or almost any other one he does, you can see why he's great and why his players love him. He might have been talking about the Bama fans, but it really applies to a lot of fans at all schools. You should have heard the fans putting down Brian Kelly and the players at the beginning of the year.
I'm not an Alabama fan, but I am a Saban fan and good for him! They have great players and a great coach. Good FOR HIM FOR STANDING UP FOR THOSE KIDS! RESPECT!!!!

And every team has the date of Bama game on their schedule circled on their schedule.
I have said it many time some of us Bama fans have unreal expectations for Bama some years. This is a young team that has won 10 games in what I think is a rebuild year. Most teams like Ole Miss are happy to have won 10 games for the first time ever.

I'm not a Nick Saban or Alabama fan. Don't get me wrong they are a great team. My dislike for them is more the fault of sports casters acting like they are the only team that exists. That being said this is one of the best speeches I've ever heard. Great job Saban.

That's a good man right there!! I wish he would have stayed at LSU but when an NFL team throws that much money at you its hard to say no. Then the NFL didn't work out so he came back to college. Alabama was dumpster fire when he go there and looks what he's done. Some one had to set a standard and just happen to be him.

Can't please idiots. Saban has spoiled Bama fans so bad. He has to rebuild nearly every yr. Fans expect way too much. He's got young players and had to replace almost all the coaches this season. There is so much truth in Nick Saban’s speech. These are young men a lot of them under 21. They have good times and bad times celebrations and disappointments. Kirby Smart said This is the SEC. Anybody can be anybody at any given time.
Bama fans are entitled because Saban and Saban's teams are consistently dominant in the most competitive conference in the country. Their two losses this year were oftly close (four points total) and Bama fans need to realize that, despite their expectations, sometimes you are gonna come up short.
Yes, I am a huge Bama fan. Obviously, I want them to win every single game that they play, and it be by many points. But in reality, we're not going to win every single game. Law of averages don't work like that. Losing is inevitable. Sooner or later, it will happen. As Bama fans, we're spoiled.

As fans we gotta motivate and cater to the team we represent. At the end of the day the players on the team are human , ppl working their ass off to earn a position in the nfl , or simply on the team. Mental health plays a huge part in that too.

U become the best and everyone expects u to stay the best forever, and nobody on earth and who’s ever lived has been the best at what they do forever bc it’s impossible. I know Alabama fans that said they are so sick at their stomach because they might not make the playoffs this year one year after winning it all for the uptinth time last season. Alabama fan base underestimate how hard it is to do what he has done. It will most likely never be done again but keep thinking coach A or B will just come in and continue the championships.

I preferred the Saban that said it didn't matter what the fans think, just focus on the process. This was the foundation of all the excuses we have heard from everyone in the program this year. As a competitor you should want everyone's best game and you should relish in dominating the competition. I am proud of our guys, but you have to see this is a different mentality.
“This isn’t professional football.” Wake up, Nick. Even though I still prefer the college game to the NFL, NIL and the portal have transformed College Football into something well beyond amateurism. Whatever payoffs happened prior to the current environment still did not change college football the way NIL & the portal have. Also, these comments are only applicable to whatever remains of the so-called Power 5 conferences. Football below that level may be entertaining but its character has not been changed by these new payment/transfer tools as used by the Big-Time college programs.
We Bama fans have been spoiled. Coach Saban has been the best AND worst thing to happen to the fan base. We definitely need to support our team no matter what and support these players. As bad as I hate when we lose, it is an exponentially worse emotion for the players. If you’re a fair weather fan or a band wagon fan, take a hike, aaaight?

Nick...i have never been and am still not a fan of yours and im sure you dont care about that, but i just wanted to compliment you for the comments you made in this video on behalf of your team and staff. I live in Georgia but am originally from Cincinnati and am a maniacal fan of my alma mater. As Luke Fickell has come to UC and developed a program to its current level, fans in Cincy have become professional second guessing coaches unless we win every game, and even then this year are negatively critiquing every game we play including the wins.
It is really sad and sickening and maybe it is part of the sad new normal in America on pretty much everything. I hope not. Anyway, good job of laying it out there . I hope my Bearcats dont have to play you anytime soon, but i do hope you get another shot at the Dawgs .

Ok Nick I heard your rant I hope you hear mine. All fans are not like that. I do appreciate the hard work and effort the players put in win or lose. Yes I like for my team to win but it`s my team either way. I know the players want to win and I know the coaches want to win. I don`t like the criticism of our team or coaches any more than you do. In my book they are always #1. So stop grouping all Alabama fans in with a few cry babies. It just is not true. Yes we have a few, I wish we did not.
