I saw monet's Lilly pads in Paris, in a museum that featured only impressionists' paintings, 30 years ago. I had seen many copies of his works. I always wondered why they were all different. I imagined it an average size work. WRONG. The reason was evident when you see that the picture is in a round room in the basement, ceiling to floor, just surrounds the round room. You can move from bench to bench and view different approaches of one painting. A wonderful, marvelous piece. I don't know if it's still there, but if you ever get a chance - GO! It's just mar-vel-ous.
Loved your picture. I have been wanting to do a picture like that. Still learning my colors to start with. But by watching you I’m learning so much. So glad you are my teacher
I highly recommend a trip to Giverny, France. You can walk thru Monet's backyard where all those great paintings were done in the garden and around the pond. It was amazing to walk across the famous green Bridge.
That was fantastic, when you were apparently, from our POV, painting to that great music. Back in the early 60s when I was a kid we used to put on our mom's classical music and dance all over the living room. And Blue Danube was one of the songs. I think I'll actually try painting to music like that. Your use of colour just astounds me. This painting blew me away. Thank you so much for showing us the way to a great painting.
Learned so much. Have not used pastels just water colours and oils and acrylics but as an eighty year old beginner I am happy to absorb any new information.
Beautiful painting Susan . By the way, my parents were professional ballroom dancers and this music brought me right back to watching them waltz to this very music. Thank you !
I love your pastel work, Susan. Thank you 🙏 For people who are wondering about investing in good pastels, the Schmincke and Sennellier pastels are smooth, creamy, and delightful to use. Worth every cent!
Wow! My mom died in January after caring for her in the bed for two years . I’m so sorry to hear about yours. There are no coincidences with the Lord as I just started painting with you two months ago ! This painting is just so lovely! I can’t wait to do it! God bless you my friend:)
God be with you, Laura. The missing is so hard, but what a blessing you were able to care for her. And yes, God will work good even in the most tragic circumstances. Romans 8:28
Do soft pastels have to be worked on a vertical surface only? Or is that just preference or ease for filming? I usually paint other mediums at slight elevated angle but not quite so vertical.
You can paint with pastels on a flat surface but you have to lift and tap your surface off every so often so that the pastel dust doesn’t just lay there. I’ve done this multiple times and I like to keep my painting surface taped to a phone cord board so that I can easily lift and tap it. Oh, and try not to breathe the dust. I tap it kind of far away from where I’m working.
If you’ve ever noticed that some easels feature the ability to tilt forward, it’s primarily for pastels, so the dust doesn’t dribble down the front of your painting… I have no idea how people do that, my neck hurts just thinking about it! 🤯
🎨👩🏼🎨👑 Vous êtes réellement la Claude Monet du pastel sec (you are really the Claude Monet of the dry pastel) (from a French woman living in Vienna, Austria, on the left bank of the Danube).
Even though oil, pastels, apply differently than soft pastels, many of the principles are still the same. So I think you can still learn lots from my channel.

Can I also follow along with oil pastel?
Even though oil, pastels, apply differently than soft pastels, many of the principles are still the same. So I think you can still learn lots from my channel.
Bought "soft pastels" from my local store and they turned out to be the same old crusty dusty hard pastels😭😭
