I got a CTS dp and intake installed a month ago along with a southbend stage 2 clutch and stage 2 unitronic tune. Car is absurd now lol. Very fun to straight line and even more fun to push out of corners. I thought stage 1 was fun, but this stage 2 life is crazy hahaha Also the noises the car makes now are awesome. Turbo flutter, burble, all the fun stuff is audible now. It’s not obnoxious or overkill. you have to do your inputs in a specific way to get turbo flutter or a long burble. Makes for a fun way to engage with the car even at low speeds.
Mk8 gti here. Went stage 1+ uni a month ago with raceline intake, short shifter, forge bov, 034 coil pack with brisk silver plugs. Have had a blast! Just ordered the cts turbo high flow catted downpipe, south bend stage 2 daily clutch and a wagner intercooler. Once they come in doing the install with stage 2 uni tune. Glad to hear this is a ideal set up, as i understand. Aftermarket downpipe with stock exhaust.
i started with a VWR catted downpipe on stock catback and it's perfect blend on quietness around town and the neighborhood while still coming alive under load.
I started off with a catless down pipe and loved it, then cut out my my resonator, then ended up getting a full cat back that has 2 little mufflers I love it! Perfect sound
I’m actually running a CTS catless to a vibrant resonator. Running to a single exit on the left side. More power gains, louder. Deeper. Less rasp. First to do it on a GLI
Cts catted down pipe with awe touring cat back is an incredible set up. Deeper tone but still subtle to where it’s not annoying. But if you’re a 30 year old child like me, EQT stage 2 burbles sound beautiful with an occasional nice gun shot but very controllable
@@LucasHuang oh damn I didn’t even know that man. If you aren’t interested in getting a Cobb for an EQT tune you should switch to IE. Same stuff and still a good tune.
@@GOODSATIVA yep I only switched to EQT cuz I wanted to not have to plug a laptop in to do anything but still loved it. Also nice knowing i can always switch back to them anytime.
Absolutely perfect! I have been hesitant with all of the other videos I see and none of them have said exactly what I was thinking, in my head. Good advice and you have been there, done that and now you share this very valuable knowledge! I truly appreciate you for this. Thumbs up and subscribed. Thank you!
I just got a 2015 mk7 two months ago and I just turned off the soundaktor and WOW is it quiet. Im not looking for ultra performance but I definitely need the noise because it’s almost hard to rev match without sound lol. Glad I found this video because I want slightly more sound but zero drone and this’ll point me in the right direction :)
Not even stage 1? But then again if you’re already stage 1, might as well stage 2. And if you’re stage 2 might as well go IS38… that’s how the mod bug starts 😭😭😭
Just got a gti mk6 wulfsberg dsg thanks for the video I’ve never modded a car but I want some noise and slight performance this will be a good start thanks 🙏
Drove for years with apr dp and stock exhaust and it had some higher tone drone which made me feel a bit ricey at times. Put the awe touring with the apr dp (after being terrified bc every gti i've heard has sounded cringey)....and I'm happily satisfied. It's loud enough to hear and has a deep tone.
Well in the future I think about buying a MK7 Performance GTI and tune it to stage 2 with handling mods/front mount intercooler to make it daily/track car for the nordschleife. So basically a aftermarket downpipe with stock cat, stock resinator, exhaust and mufflers will sound great already? And maybe adding valves to make it sound stock whenever I use it as a daily? Will a stock downpipe, front mount intercooler, aftermarket intake, turbo inlet and heatshielding the intake pipe for solid stage 2 performance?
Im on stg2 Maperformance catted dp/ECS valved exhuast. Being older im going 2 hav 2 go with stg1 & put my factory dp back. The exhuast fume are 2 much 2 look away frm at this point 😢
Hi Lucas! Thanks for the helpful video! But just wondering if there’ll be trouble for the car passing the nys annual exam after installing this setup?(aftermarket down pipe + stock catback)
My understanding (also being in NY) is that if the new DP doesn't throw a catalytic converter error code or check engine light, and your tune doesn't "delete" or turn off the check engine light, then you're OK. Basically, if the car's computer thinks the cat is working fine then you'll pass the emissions check. I've watched my mechanic do my annual certs and that's all they do, just an OBDII check.
I have catless downpipe and res delete and the car sounds amazing, it's a bit loud but if i close the windows it's good, my friend got a full straight pipe and that thing is loud and doesn't event sound that clean. Pretty much all gtis sound better with downpipe, res delete not sure it makes much difference besides the added turbo whistle
Lucas what are you thoughts on this setup: Stock downpipe with the TCR muffler? My plan is not to go stage 2. Also I am running 6sp manual 2020 GTI, cause of your videos. Thanks
I’ve only heard it in videos so can’t really give a real opinion cause it’s limited by whatever recording device they used. Personally, i can’t imagine it’ll be “better” than a dp. Sure it’ll be different than stock but is it worth it for what people are charging? I’ve seen new for like ~$300? Might as well get a dp, that’s what I’d do tho
I bailed on a fb marketplace dp cuz I was scared of a cel causing problems. I have a jb4 and was curious if you had any codes on the jb4 or dash throughout your time with the dp. And a spacer?!
When I was jb4 w/ a dp I had a CEL, even with a spacer. But funny thing was the CEL only came up in the summer… in the winter & cold months the CEL went away 😂 Vibrant O2 spacer btw
I have had two different Downpipes and three different cat backs on my mk7.5. I’m running cts catless with mbrp catback now and it my favorite. I had an awe catback first with stock catback. I was so disappointed when I heard it start up. Also if you want a good catted dp don’t buy a CTS because my pops and bangs blew out the cat terrible quality
Lucas Huang...One question about the CTS DP and Stock cat back...Do You Still have Drone? GREAT VIDEO! Saved me the disappointment of making a bad choice. The tuning shop I use told me pretty much the same thing and even told me he's had a lot of customers come in to have their cat back systems taken out because of the drone issue that's all to prevalent with aftermarket cat back. I really don't trust random mentions about how great it sounds with "no drone" or "very little" drone. you might hear a video clip and think it's too loud or ratty and they claim it's fine...NO it's not, believe your ears. I'm sure there are many that love an obnoxious exhaust though. Ok I lied...One other question+...is that CTS DP Non Catted? and does it make a difference sound wise IF you had Catted Aftermarket DP?
Entertaining video as always :-). Yes, I tried many exhaust iterations on my 2013 Mk7 PP as well. I tried various GTI 7.0 Clubsport and Clubsport S variants (rear muffler and resonator) as well as Mk7.5 GTI TCR, they are louder indeed (see for example my channel: th-cam.com/users/shortsGK24tOXSZTw?feature=share) but the quality of the sound is the best with a down-pipe (I am using HJS Euro-6 catted DP to pass German TUV) and the bone stock rear muffler + resonator. Cheers buddy
Drone is like a mosquito. No one likes it. I have a 034 Downpipe catted, to a vibrant resonator. to an ECS tuning cat back, to 2 resonators that are also my tips. Drone is still present HAHA. Will probably look into 2 mini mufflers on the axle area.
