@@montana2strokeracer I picked up a 75 TS185 barn find down in Benson on Friday. It's in pretty rough shape. Thinking about turning it into a MX bike with some RM250 suspension parts. That won't happen till after the 74 TM's upgrades are done. What are your thoughts?
Good Afternoon Dale. It's 3:45 PM on Thursday. Just got home from a local salvage yard. Picked up a 73 TM125 and some parts for it. Not as good of shape as the 185 but it's something to work on and adding the upgrades.
Sounds like the old bikes just keep flowing into your truck. You're going to have to start a channel, I can't believe how many folks there are out there that like old bikes and mods to them.
It's called hackery. I am dealing with a ktm 65sx where the po must have been rear ended by a car. The bolt boss where the swing arm bolts goes thru the block was cracked in 3 places. Ground it all out to no crack just open air into the bolt boss cavity. Turned a brass backer and welded it up. Now onto the Kickstart gear bolt boss thar is broken. Great vid. So much fun fixing and modifying these machines.
Oh yeah Pete that's me using CAD.........I can barely turn on a computer. But cardboard.....thats my way. Yes, I am looking forward to that cylinder work too, just hope I can pull it off.
Very creative work on the brackets. Never saw you repair a cylinder with welding or knew such was possible. That is going to be good! Definitely the worst gouging I've ever seen. Painful to look at. Way to go!!
Progress is progress Dale. By the look of the transfers, it looks as though your new barrel may have been subject to a home 'porting' job. You have to take what you can get with some of these parts and you'll put it right. Best wishes, Dean.
Hey Dean, no the transfers and ports have not been touched. This is a stock cylinder, just abundantly abused. I have two more just like it, one will go to 1mm over and the other at 1.5mm over. I really like closer to standard.
not saying its needed , but did you ever see how to anneal aluminum? you first use candle soot on the part then a propane torch applied until the soot black goes away. simple as aluminum will not get red when heated. trivia is my thing!
great job as always dale that barrel as seen some trauma but sure ul sort it out i see your fetish asant gone away yet another engine uve bought lol next video please
Thanks again for the tank James, if you can come up with brackets let me know, should have the dampers and spacers in by weeks end. I know.....these forks don't show any sign of leaks. May just change the oil and ride.
@@montana2strokeracer Hi Dale , thanks for sharing. I recently discovered your channel and it's inspiring to see some of your work and projects. I recently acquired a 1978 yamaha IT 175 which I have been working on and making changes/improvements. Look forward to watching more on your channel.
Hey Matt, I see no signs of that, the corrosion at the top is on one side and at the top, rest of the cylinder looks good with no scoring. I think this was stored in very humid conditions, these cylinders on these bikes can be difficult to remove but I usually work from the top and connect a cable with ends to the head studs and pry it up by pulling the cable with a prybar against the upper frame tube. Chisels and hammers to split the case and cylinder is a big zero. But who knows, still have to fix it. Thanks Matt.
Honestly I’m loving it when the parts need repair, I really like watching you repair the parts to as good or better than new.
Thank you, it really is the most fun part to me. Sure, appreciate you taking the time to watch.
Fixing the bad work by others is always a pain in the neck. Ran into that on several past projects myself. The bikes are coming along nicely Dale.
Yeah, it's almost every time these days. Good parts and bikes are hard to come by these days.

The 185 is a great engine, think that would be a super upgrade. They are really strong but handle bad like the DT2 Im doing.

Sounds familiar, I had so many broken and messed up things on this bike. It was a chore for sure, but as you say, it's fun doing it.
Good progress Dale. Man, some people shouldn't be let anywhere near machinery! Looking forward to your work on this barrel.
Cheers, Peter.
I tell ya Peter, pry bars, screwdrivers, welders, and hammers in the wrong hands is a dangerous thing.
Can’t wait to see the next one. This is things that other people need to know. You are right lots of people do not need to pick up tools LOL.
Thanks Cain, I am looking forward to the repairs too, just hope I can get it done. Your right, tools are a bad thing for some folks.
Here first with Carmel popcorn.
Thank you Dale for teaching Ming how to work on the bikes keep it up.
Here. 275th!
Dont think your that far back Dean, maybe 274th. LOL
Carmel popcorn....my fav! Thanks for joining us Mark.
Great to see that you use a CAD program (cardboard aided design) to make parts with! Looking forward to seeing you work on the cylinder!

Dale , like Mr. Pete says ,"He was a hammer and chisel mechanic" , LOL , you will make it better than new and it be be fun to see how you do it !
Thanks John, I like Mr. Pete, best teacher on TH-cam, down to earth guy.
Outstanding work as always Dale….

This one is ruff Jim. Will take a lot of work.

@@montana2strokeracer that's good news Dale.
This will be interesting to see how the barrel turns out.
Just like new I hope, lots of work ahead.
Great video as always. I think you're being too picky with the tank brackets though, put some grommets in there and call it a day 🤣.
Hey Greg, yeah you are probably right. Grommets to the rescue.
That jug is farm fresh Dale.
Yeah, think it's been stomped into the barn yard a few times. It will look a lot different after 20 hours of work. LOL
out of step with the guys, but made it!
You made it Frank.....yeah!

Yes, I have a video on annealing aluminum just as you say. Don't remember what I was making but I used the acetylene torch to soot it up.
great job as always dale that barrel as seen some trauma but sure ul sort it out i see your fetish asant gone away yet another engine uve bought lol next video please
Thanks Mark, yes, I think it was in the barnyard at some point too.
I have a 125c tank that’s bad think I can salvage the brackets. I have fork seals but the original ones are still in and not leaking.

@@montana2strokeracerwell we found out the 100/125C brackets are not the same as the 250C2/400C brackets . My apologies
Hi dale , what is the tool you used to remove the swarf from the holes you drilled in the aluminium mounting bracket you made ?
Hi Nicholas, it is a Noga deburring tool.

Hey Nick, thanks for spending time with me in the shop, I have a 79 IT175 that will be coming into the shop soon, stay tuned for that.
I think that cylinder had to be beat off the piston as it was probably seized on from rust and water. You will fix it nice..

Nice video. Only thing is that about 1/2 way through your audio became very muffled and hard to hear
Thank you, Rob, I have been having some issues with the audio, hoping I have it figured out before the next one. Thanks for the feedback.
Here
Yeah!!!
Great content, another informative video. Looking forward to the F7. Thanks Dale.
Thanks Jeff, yes, I would like to get the F7 at least in the frame and running this year. Not sure if I will paint and re decal or not.
