I received the EEprom chip from Coppel Repair. I replaced the faulty chip and the screen came on again after weeks of sitting dead. But after a moment it went off again and it won't come on anymore. This is after installing a chip with the right firmware. It worked damn it!! Why is it refusing to come on again?

I have two 31MU97. Both are dead. Second one went black on me today. I will try to contact Coppell tomorrow.

I am also in the same boat; replaced 8-pin EEPROM twice with no luck. Lesson learned. Now that I am in this boat, can I ask how you know it is that IC NOVATEK processor that requires replacing? Is it a simple removal with hot air and replace with solder paste? Does it require firmware programming at all? Last chance is to send it to you on your website requesting service. I am in Canada. Thank you!

I would not recommend removing let alone attempting to replace the processor unless you have both good equipment and experience doing BGA rework. Give the board to someone else to repair (make sure they are good!), get a new board if you can, get a new monitor, but don't damage that board by removing the processors with a hot air gun!

I see there is a new firmware which probably solves the problem with power outage dead state. check the popular forum posts.

I do not believe there is a new firmware, only old selling tricks giving the people what they want to hear. On the forums you can also find 100% guaranteed ways to enlarge your pen1s, make a million without working or score any girl you want. As long as there are people who want to believe those are possible there will be others taking advantage of them.

@@coppelltvrepair The firmware could have been fixed. It is a program.

@@CabrioDriving I know very well what firmware is. You - and everyone else making speculative statements - should start by providing proof that the firmware is what is bad to begin with. My glasses have been sitting tilted for 20 years and the problem was not them, it was the mere fact that one of my ears is higher than the other. And in the same spirit if by replacing the firmware IC the monitor starts to work it does not automatically mean the IC has gone bad, does it?
So before even talking about fixed firmware what is the logic asserting it was bad in the first place?

@@coppelltvrepair Is there any way to find firmware for LG 31MU97Z-B IC205 chip? After a power cut my monitor died. I reprogrammed this chip with a ch341a. Now it is working but without thunderbolt ports. Because the bin file I have used belongs to a standard 31mu97.

@@yucelyilmaz Google or ChatGPT may be better equipped to tell you if there is any way to find firmware for 31MU97Z. I can only tell you what we did when we needed one: we bought a working board for $400 and took the firmware off it. So I suppose you can understand why are are not keen on neither giving it away nor selling it for $10.

I don’t get why someone would try the high voltage jumper trick when the replacement part you sell is so reasonably priced. If you did want to jump start the chip (and I’d really love to know if it works), is to lift CS#(pin 1) and tie to VCC(pin 8) with a 10k resistor. Then wire a switch between CS# pin, and the pad you lifted it from. Power up with the switch off. If TV turns on, close the switch, and adjust each menu item in the setup. (if it doesn’t turn on experiment over). My theory is that if the TV powers on and the microcontroller reads corrupt memory it shuts down. If it doesn’t find an IC at all it loads power on defaults. You can then adjust the TV settings and since Chip Select is working it will save the memory correctly. Anyway, too late for me, I bought an IC from you, installed it, and am back in action. Thanks!

      1) Jumping does work sometimes and doesn't work other times.
      2) When it works changing settings may or may not allow the monitor on its own afterwards, i.e. your changes may or may not be sufficient to solve the problem for practical purposes.
      3) If it doesn't work there's reasonably high chance that, unless you are experienced with electronic repairs, you fry the board.
All this is from first hand experience - the first two points by doing and the third point by servicing boards sent to us after someone fried them while trying to jump start them.
Oh, and 4) At $8 with free shipping the chip is not reasonably priced, it is a giveaway.
