      Frish drop from plane is to attract tourists as it's fishing destiny. And they can only use place to get fish there for Geo location it's hard and time consuming to use any other means of transportation. Yes, some fishes do die while dropping. However, not alot in ratio as they are light weight fishes hence they don't crash hard... I still find it cruel to do so regardless of the reason...

      I personally love algae, I encourage its growth in my tank. But I do dislike it on the front of the tank, due to how difficult it makes it to see inside the tank. So I may just get this when I can..

    2:30 sounds oddly enough like the girl I ended up helping last year. She kept "rescuing" bettas without having the proper setups to keep the fish. A lot of the bettas were living in their Petco/Petsmart cups. It was god awful.
    I took 10 bettas off of her hands, I kept 4 and rehomed the rest to knowledgable keepers and really tried to help her understand what she was doing wasn't helping the fish.
    I still think about her and wonder if she really did stop.

    Metal blades are ok as long as you keep it flat on the glass, works great for removing hard water stains or sticker thermostats. I've scratched way more aquariums when sand/gravel gets caught up in between the algae brush and the glass, that's what the scratches in the video look like.

    Thank you Chris for educating people about fish-care. It isn’t nearly as simple as plopping a sick betta into a filthy peanut butter jar with barely a teaspoon of water inside.

    • @margegreeley7976
      @margegreeley7976 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      It is also saddening that uneducated people will continue to purchase betta fish without the necessary knowledge to care for them. This is why we need to share the correct way to look after our pets. It is a great responsibility to care for another living being, and it requires lots of research and dedication.

  • @mazobojo
    @mazobojo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    You can use a metal blade (standard razor blade) on glass, just keep the edge as parallel as possible and it won’t scratch. Don’t use a blade on acrylic though, as it will leave scratches. The algae scrubber is just more convenient since it can also clean the silicone corners and will pick up some of the algae after cleaning and can be rinsed off instead of a blade putting all of the algae removed into the water.

    This breaks my heart, my copper is dying from dropsy 6 months after I 'rescued' him from Petco. He was barely a twig when I bought him, severe ammonia burns, zero.fins left. Living his best life in his heavily planted 5 gallon he transformed into a magnificent copper delta but recently started to fade. I've been crying so much and getting clove oil today. He's still active, swimming and eating but if/when it gets worse I'll be ready to let him go... Well physically. All my Betta have 5 gallon + but even still I don't know if I'll be able to 'replace' Piggyfish, although I have been enquiring at Betta rescue places.

    • @karisap
      @karisap 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@karisap Thank you so much. I feel so guilty, I've been trying everything to bring him back but I think today is going to be decision time on whether to keep fighting or give up. He swings back and forth from swimming and eating to barely moving. Being hugely swollen to looking like he is recovering. Regardless I know I'm going to blame myself, if only I'd.... I should have.... It's so difficult with fish because they can't show you what's wrong to the extent other animals can. I know I failed him but I also know I gave him a beautiful life for a time. I'm so sorry for your loss and I hope you don't have the same lingering guilt I will have. My Piggyfish has my heart, of my three bettas two I cannot face losing. Bernie I got through columnaris months ago and now he's a tank. I have to spend time with him in gratitude as I know he'll get me through this. My third Zerka (Beserka) is new and he will swiftly be as essential to me as Piggy and Bernald. These fish steal your heart

    • @thejasminedragonmerchant6843
      @thejasminedragonmerchant6843 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm sorry your fish isn't doing well, but at least you can be assured you've given him a life, however short or long that may be, in a comfortable, safe environment being given the best of care. Bettas often live such short lives due to health problems from breeding or from stress at the petstore before being purchased (and unlike mammals like cats or dogs, fish can't scream or whimper or lick injuries to make pain apparent), so it might just be old hurts catching up to him.

    Hey Chris! Another great FTR.
    About Airdropping the live fish though, I was surprised to learn that the survival rates are actually very high. Much higher than when stocked through other methods (trucking, etc). When I first heard of airdropping live fish, I assumed they would have had to drop loads of fish to have even a small number of them survive. I was shocked to learn that in reality, 95%+ survive the drop, and live! The practice has been in use for about 75 years now, and I'm sure at first it was not that effective. Nowadays there are many measures in place to ensure they survive. A cool tidbit, they get released at very low altitudes, but just high enough that the fish have enough air time to all turn and hit the water nose-down.
    Imagine being in the water seeing that!

  • @Noahhhhhuh

    OK for that hermit crab one, and extreme stressful situation they tend to lose their legs they fall off of fear I don’t know the logistics but probably because their blood is gone towards the center of their body and that’s induced by fear, so even if there was “no aggression in the tank“ they would still die because their predator is literally their neighbor that’s horrifying

    If you’re going to adopt a betta fish from a neglectful pet store you should have a tank set up and ready, a TANK. Not a literal jar. I’m planning on adopting a betta fish from a LFS that is pretty neglectful to them but I have to wait a few more weeks for the bacteria and ammonia to settle. I’m not gonna put a betta in anymore hell than it already is in unless it’s extremely necessary.

    This channel makes me wish I had a full tank picture of the tank I used to have about 10 years ago, it was certainly nothing special - the plants were plastic XD But it was a 60 gallon tall running a large canister filter with a nice large chunk of bogwood that was big enough to be a hiding spot for Paulo, my 18" pleco that I fed halved cucumbers. He was good fish, barely 2" when I first got him for a little 10 gallon guppy tank. He took me on a journey of increasingly large tanks until he finally passed, I think he was in his teens but I'm not sure as I'm not 100% certain if I was still in junior high when I got him, or in high school. And I say him but honestly I have no idea what gender the fish was, but I named it Paulo, The Pleco. So 'he' just seemed to fit the best XD

    My betta lives in a very large vase. 15 liters to be exact. Fully planted with deep substrate with scoria and aquasoil on top. With small internal filter and heater and of course light. He seems very happy and loves his ramshorn snail friends. He has a bed of riccia on top of a piece of driftwood. I mean planted!!! I do not own any algae balls at all, just real moss and some rare stuff as well.

    I upgraded my bettas tank from a 3 gallon to a 5 gallon, I don't have money for plants yet but I'm saving. The 3 gallon was a gift and when I was gifted the baby betta I just let them in the 3 gallon temporarily while I saved for the 5 gallon. Going smoothly so far. I'm new to this so you're helping me out a lot!

    Buying a sick fish from a pet store is not rescuing it, its just a normal purchase. If the fish is basically moments away from death, you can ask the manager if you can have the fish for free so as to treat it. If it's a Petco/PetSmart theyll usually give you the fish just to get it off their hands. And this is great cause 1. The fish can come home and have the chance at a peaceful life, and 2. The store loses profit, which in turn either forces them care better for their fish or persuades them to not order as many
    Happy fishing yall ‼️

I’m already getting a 5 gallon to set up my betta I saved whom I named Ares from a petsmart (he went from being very dull and lame to a happy colorful fish) I can’t wait to give him a new home that’s all for him.

They’re friendly with each other and they’re so happy in their home. My favorite thing is to think that I saved him from a little cup on a shelf and gave him a calm, natural home. It’s a wonderful feeling

    Revised and redited.
    To those people who put fish in cups, bottles, and pepper and salt shakers.. then try to adorn then with accessories, then you should try living in a refrigerator size cardboard box for a month, and that would include furniture, portable toilet, room for a water cooler, a chair, a table, and a month supply of food rations. And if you cope well. still don't put betas etc. In aquariums less than 5 gallons or multiple fish that can grow up to 2 to 4 feet in length in aquariums less than 1000 gallons or MORE! 96"L x 60"W x 48"H minimum! Thanks Chris

    man these tanks make me miss my old hydroponics set up. Series of fish tanks, that used natural filtration, fish, etc, to keep the fish and the plants alive.
    It worked well, but when i graduated college and returned home, i couldnt transport 8 50 gallon tanks, plus the fish and everything else.
    so i gave them to a professor who had a whole basement set up for aquariums.

    I have a 3 year old goldfish and we are upgrading his short cheapish 10 gallon tank, to a 30 gallon tank very soon.
    Hes a big boi, and hes gonna have a really nice tank because now we can afford it. It was thanks to you that i have examples for ecosystem tanks to use for reference.
    (His name is Henry and he loves playing in bubbles, he is the friendliest fish ever, its really weird)
    Also i would like some input from other people, it would really help a lot. We are still learning and this is our first time doing a natural tank. The tank is more tall than it is wide. It is an old 30 gallon show tank from a fish store that we cleaned up and replaced the bottom.
    We are thinking about putting cherry shrimp or Neon Yellow shrimp in with my (common goldfish) tank to help take care of the plants.
    I don't think he can see out of one eye. He had an accident a year ago when i moved him to a new tank because the other was falling apart and his eye got cut on a decoration. (It looks completely fine somehow) So i don't think he'll eat the shrimp, but you never know.
    Also plant and substrate suggestions? We aren't too sure about other fish, but maybe a cleaner fish.
    It would really help so much if you gave any input at all!

    I used to work at a smaller chain pet store and one of the new employees was put in charge of changing the water in the Betta's cups... He uh, he suffocated them all. Like 12+ fish died because he decided to "fill the cups up just a little more full" when the rest of us weren't looking. It was explained to him that there needs to be some space for air in there so they can breathe. Stuff happens, but that guy was an idiot that didn't care about animals. He would be the kind of person to put a poor betta in a Peanut Butter jar.. Or maybe a bong😅😳🙄

    I think that cichlid might be a Texas cichlid? Also if you want to "rescue" betta from PetSmart, I always look for Bettas that look sickly, or dying. PetSmart lets me just take them home without paying because I have to spend on products trying to get them healthy again. I now have 2 Bettas in their own 10gals that I've acquired this way. :)
