My mom surprised me with a betta fish after giving her 200 dollars. She bought it from a pet store and we have a one-gallon fishbowl so we put It in there. But quickly after the first week of having the betta fish, I started to do some research and felt so guilty. Currently, I am planning on setting up my first fish tank 5 gallon set up. Right now I am doing more research on what to purchase and how to cycle a tank, that is how I found this channel.

THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. This is almost a trend now to make these stupid designer tanks and put bettas in them. I really like how people have raised awareness against goldfish bowls or as we goldfish lovers like to call them goldfish death traps. Most people are or seem to be aware that no living organism can survive without its environmental needs being met. WHY IS IT ANY DIFFERENT WITH BETTA FISH. I don't even like betta fish that much but I DEFINITELY HATE ANIMAL ABUSE.
I have a Betta in my 90 community, he loves it and does amazing with the other fish! And I have a 10 gallon with a Betta and a snail. These fish have amazing personalities and deserve the best treatment!

I had a 6 foot tank with 5 angels and a black ghost knife fish, I asked my mum to feed them while I went away, my mum bought 15 neon tetras and 15 cherry barbs…
came back to one fat knife fish.

I'm really happy that I only had a cat growing up as a kid. Ironically cats are a lot less complicated than fish
The fish hobby is great but it's not great for people living in the inner City. Gets really expensive

I 100000000000 PERCENT AGREEE!! I just finished playing a long round of fetch with my cat and after that i just finished a water change for the fish and then I realized WHY IN THE WORLD DO PEOPLE USE GODDAMN FISH AS PETS BEGGINER PETS!?!? there alive and hard to take care of!
@@catsforlife2491 i agree with some parts but its not just black or white, they use fish as beginner pets when they are 1 or 2 fish in a bowl without filter etc, i dont think the beginners use proper aquariums.
You know what strangely surprised me I bought some guppies like three more to add to the tank hoping that it would cut down the aggression ironically my beta is the most docile.
Put them in and after a week they were blue. Like a sky blue I blew my mind
ohh I've noticed this as well sometimes! I think betta are most aggressive to other betta and other similar temperament and sized fish

The best place I have ever visited was the old creek behind the farm that I grew up on.
As a child some 70 years ago I would lay on my tummy head hanging over the bank watching the baby Jack fish, pike, trout, and others swimming around wishing I could catch them.
This past summer I went back and yes as old as I am, I lay on my tummy and looked into the creek and Yep those baby fish were still there.
Probably descendants of the ones I watched as a child.
It was kind of reliving my youth until I tried to get up. For some reason I wasn’t as agile as I used to be even though my mind seem to think it could be. But, I have to admit that laying there and looking at the baby fish that would eventually grow to be a foot maybe a foot and a half long fascinated me beyond reason.
It isn’t often when you’re older that you get to re-visit your child hood fun.
Thank goodness my daughter and grand son were there to help me up.
If not I’d still be there laying on my tummy watching fish. Lol

As a person who also sneezes multiple times in a row (the average being anywhere from 5 to 7) I can confirm: it’s an odd existence- and quite strange to explain to people.

it's absolutely wild how often people think "surprise" fish are a good idea. my sister was given "surprise" goldfish and they ate her ember tetras. i have made sure that everyone around me knows nothing at all goes in my tanks without my permission or there will be hell to pay.

Man I feel that person with the dad. My tank was at least ciceld but now I got an guppy problem, thanks to my mom and a second aquarium only for the male guppys.

I interrupted a sales conversation in the LFS today - not in a major way, but just throwing out a comment as I walked by. The person was talking about having given away a male fish because it wouldn't stop chasing the female, in his 10g tank. They were standing in front of the molly tanks, and the staff started talking about the 2:1 ratio of females to males. And I said, real quick, "...or just keep females and males separately so you don't have to worry about the babies over running your tank! They each do fine on their own..."
yeah, for real that was my plan at first. because my dream was only some snails and then one little fish group nothing big (it is an 54l ~14usgallons tank) only male or female and well parents with the "there so alone that is sad bla bla bla" sudely guppys in my tank.

Are you familiar with the concept of a "key"? They usually work both from the inside and from the outside and are quite comon even on room doors in quite a lot of countries and households. That's how you lock a door from the outside.

Feeling guilty because my poor betta has been living in a small plastic storage box (25 litres) for like a year. It started as a quarantine because he got fin rot, but I've never managed to get it cleared up and so I didn't dare put him back in the tank where other fish lived. I finally just decided to get a 60 litre aquarium for him to live alone, maybe that will help his recovery or at least ensure some quality of life. Setting it up this weekend, can't wait for it :)
Best place I've visited out of country: The Yucatán peninsula in Mexico - so much Mayan history, lot's of beautiful nature and fun nature/adventure parks to visit.
In Sweden: I would have to say northern Sweden around where the mountains are at, or the National Park of Storforsen which (usually) has lots of small creeks running off this huge rapid and big smooth rocks in between which you can sit on and sunbathe while you picnic. Always great for a summer visit, bring some bathing suits so you can drop into the larger pools.
I've traveled a little bit (not nearly as much as I'd like to, tho.) I think my favorite so far was when I went to Oahu, Hawaii with my school's marching band in my freshman year of high school. We stayed in Waikiki & the beaches there were UNREAL. I'm from North CA, (specifically Wine Country/the Bay Area,) & while the water there is pretty, it's also very cold & has deadly rip-tides, so it's not super swimmable for anyone without the proper gear/training/experience.
But MAN, swimming at Waikiki's beaches? UNFORGETTABLE. Warm water, great visibility, gentle waves, and even FISH and SEA TURTLES!!!! I spent literal hours in the ocean, almost all of the unscheduled time we got during our trip. I swam beside a sea turtle & I could stand up on sand-banks that were pretty far from shore if I got tired. It was life-changing, I can't wait to swim in waters like those again someday...
Hey Chris! I think it would be really helpful for beginners like me if you started circling or putting an arrow to the plants that you are talking about when you start listing off what’s in the tank. That way these videos can be both educational, entertaining, and hilarious - ALL AT THE SAME TIME!
I find myself watching these videos mostly for fun, but watch your other videos and some other TH-camrs for education. It is hard for newbies who are searching for scapes that appeal to them to know what plants you’re talking about without having to use google!

Dude! I get the sneezing thing! I sneeze 5 times minimum and literally got sent to the principal's office in middle school over it....it was allergy season😂
The glass on my old tank was all scratched up but that was because of the pillars of sandstone caves I had stacked up for the crabs I had to get out of the water.
Luckily I've never had to deal with my mom suprising me with fish, she has her own and refuses to get anymore because she doesnt want an overcrowded tank. Plus I have a betta, she knows that my little guy needs to be alone, at least fish wise. I've said that I want another betta (in a separate tank, of course. I want two 20 gallon so I can try and focus on some good hardscaping) and she instantly looked at me like I had two heads, she was worried where I would find the room, and I explained to her that Walmart has a fish tank rack that holds two 20 gallons, and I've been wanting it for a while now
i set up a shallow tank last week which hold only 3 gallons then when my fam saw they said why don't put a betta or a "small GOLD FISH" and so I put in a tiny pinky nail size snail

From time to time I sneeze trough my mouth too. And when that happens it goes on and on, because it gives no relief.
A couple of years ago I traveled to the Philippines. Where we stayed for two weeks. It was beautiful because we where on a small island and it had an awesome beach but was not to crowded. But I have also been to Italy, Spain and Switzerland which where great.
QOTW: There is this aquarium pet display place. I am not exactly sure what to call it. Let’s call it a pet zoo, it displays pets, including fishes. GOD I WANT TO GO TO THAT PLACE, THEY HAVE FISHES WITH GOOD CARE, DOGS, CATS, IGUANAS, EMUS, BALL PYTHONS, BUNNIES AND MORE. It is like HEAVEN for me.

During summer days i take my central American boa out when I 4un some errands (i live in a small town ppl love it) and his favorite spot to chill is around my poney tail🤣🤣🤣
I also sneeze like a machine gun especially when my allergic rhinitis is triggered. It's annoying when it's multiple times in a row; I run out of air. I'm inclined to think that I might develop abs from all the sneezing. lol
One time, I was away for a few months and I came back to my 5 gallon planted fish tank, completely dumped out (it takes time and $$ to develop a mature planted tank), replaced with painted rocks, fake plants/decor and at LEAST 10+ fish- who I alone had to watch die one by one over the next 2 weeks.
Though I’m grateful he introduced me to the hobby as a young kid, my knowledge and experience with tank had far surpassed his now. it felt like I had been completely disrespected and trampled over.
My dad got mad at me for being upset, while the rest of my family defended him because he was trying to “do something nice”

One time my dad bought crawfish to eat, and I told him to not put a crawfish in my 5 gallon tank … luckily he didn’t. But he found snails in the bag they came in so he threw them into my tank and it took FOREVER To get rid of all of the snails (I think they were just common ram horn snails?)

I just had a thought that Chris should one day have a Reality TV show called "Flip that Fish" where he is invited to intervene with fish keepers with disgusting or poorly decorated tanks. He sits down with them, troubleshoots their problems. And at the end reveals the refreshed, clean, and expertly decorated fish tanks.
I had a teammate who sneezed like you, except a bit more. We made a game out of it couning number of sneezes in a row. His max was something over 50 in a row and it looked painful towards the end.
I sneeze a ton of times in a row, but its about ten times as loud and powerful, so its REALLY annoying. But overall, I have the opposite problem. When I cough, it sounds like a sneeze. I've been blessed for so many coughs...
QOTW: Japan. In castle's garden (some castles have it), there're always koi, and you can feel at peace in a beautiful place with beautiful fishes.

around 4:19 - I literally had a DREAM that my mom did this to me and put a bunch of random fish in with my betta in a tiny 3.5 gallon and I was even angry at her after I woke up

That betta tank is pretty good, I put a bunch of aquatic plants in the front of the tank to filter out ammonia and nitrates and a bunch of sponges and activated carbon at the bottom layer filter of the tank.
Works great, alot better to display fish than the bottles they use here to display fish.
George Farmer is a wonderful scaper and fantastic human being. Have had him respond to all of my comments on his channel. I was so surprised he did that. I am at last 100 percent duckweed free. First time in years and it feels so wonderful.
since I usually give fish "abuser" stories, I want to give a good one! some people came in asking if there is any goldfish that doesn't need a filter. lol yeh hec no. anyways i explain to them a goldfish is probably the fish that most needs a filter because they are poop machines! and they wanted to put this fish in a 2g tank because they saw them on the shelf with a goldfish in the pic. I told them for the size the goldfish is at in the store (like 3inch with tail) you need a 10-20g to start and a 30 or more once its grown. He was asking why its even on the box.. we get this so much it sucks because people who don't care enough will just use it as an excuse to mistreat the fish. Well this family was so open to help, they ended up getting a kit with a filter that was 10g. I don't think its the best size but i think its a good starting size for a baby goldfish and its better than them putting it in something half the size. I can just hope they will think about our convo & upgrade it when the time comes. they really seem like the actually care. he was like "man we just tortured fish when we were kids huh. like put a betta in a vase etc" yeh xD you did but its ok, you can do right by a new one
considering how stubborn people can be, I'm glad this went as well as it did. I would say though if someone is set on something like a 10, that they should look at smaller species alternatives like gold colored mollies or guppies!

when u feel the sneese coming, just pinch your nose holes shut. if not eliminating, cuts sneese down by 85%. try it.
My favourite places I’ve been is skiing at Lake Tahoe when I went to the US on a school trip and visiting my cousins when they lived in Finland, I also like where they live now in Germany. The places I really want to travel to are Japan, Korea and Thailand.
The fact that they gad a their green onion in an old plastic tea/lemonade bottle said a lot about the condition of their tank.

First tank is two small, stressing out the bettas, and no real substance inside of them.
Funny thing is, if it was bigger, had the walls cut out, and maybe had the top filter acting as a waterfall effect, it might be cool little mini waterfall design. But I swear it's always these weird designs that are like "How can we abuse the most fish as possible?"

I'm telling you man I went to the scary frightening fish shop got the best bait I could find though and an amazing beautiful anubias barteria which are usually like 500 NT. I'm thinking it's like 20 US dollars. It's I know it's cheap in the States but not when you're living in Taiwan
And I wanted to get some floaters and but there was a ton of anubias duckweed just all around the floaters and I'm like nope not touching that
But I did do is buy a bunch of red stem plants so they can grow out and I'm using them as like a floating island along with some wastyria
I want to visit Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. anywhere like that really, see those dutch style aquariums, lol
YES, if I AM nervious, I would caugh, followed by a lot of sneezes and then coughing at the same time, sending me to gasp for air after a few. IDK what it is but doctor says emotional, is temporary, will go away, has not gone away 2 years later , so I try to not get reactions from situations, best mnedicine.

I have 2 beta's that I actually love very much, but I feel very inadequate after watching this. My betas have real plants and lotus flowers to rest on, and I like to make sure they have mopani wood in their tanks. But I bought them pure betta beads just to place in the corner of their tanks for some fun, but I feel inadequate cause I used "fish rocks" on the bottom! I will now be removing them all and adding more plants!

To answer QOTW, best place I've been to is Okinawa, Japan. Extremely good food, nice nightlife, very nice views and best thing, i went to the aquarium with the whalesharks. SO AMAZING!
