This is the BEST explanation I have heard being new to this whole thing of scoring. Gave me goosebumps how easy I was able to understand what you were saying
Thanks for this! You just saved me some money. I had a scoring stylus from my Explore but couldn’t find it and was just about to go and buy the scoring wheels now that I have a maker 3. I already have the deboss tip but have not used it yet and wondered if it would work for scoring. You answered my question. Thank you!
A tip I received when using the scoring stylus (I have the Explorer) was to tell the machine to score several times (about two times on thin materiales and about five times on card stock). I always do that to make pillow boxes and it works!!!
The deboss tool is the only one I haven't bought, I have all of the scoring tools for my heavy card stock. Now I plan to pick that up for my box-making. Thank you so much!
Excellent video!!! Thank you so much, you helped me making a decision between debossing (!) and scoring tool. Beside this: your style of presenting your content is gorgeous. Thanks for all the knowledge and insights you share. Wish you all the best 🍀
Thank you for that. I have just bought myself a Cricut Marker Machine. So I welcome all your tips. Thank you so much. Leonie from Cambridge New Zealand ❤😊
Lovely to hear from our neighbours in NZ. I hope you love your new Cricut Maker. Be sure to let me know if there are any tutorials you'd like me to make ☺
I just purchased the double scoring tool at Michael’s just because I don’t know which one to buy and I’m also in a hurry 😅 I am a newbie. I’m so glad I found your video. I will definitely exchange it to debossing tool ❤ 11:22
Although I personally agree with the review becase I have all the tools, I still end up with Stylus in most cases, simply because I don't have to swap the tools in the middle of the project. I sometimes double the score lines if I need the lines more pronounced. Precision is not always the determining factor.
@@ItsyBitsyBuild exactly! That's the primary reason. When I score and cut multiple pieces on the large mat, I can focus on something else and leave the machine to complete the job. And I also agree that debossing tip can do great job when used as scoring tool. Perhaps perforating tool should be also included in the group. It works great on the overhead projector film because no scoring tool can make a dent in it. I cut some small favor boxes out of it and the only way to make folds is to perforate instead of score.
keep also in mind that if you fold your scored paper, by aligning the corner before pressing to make the fold, the paper will be much better align. You're not supposed to fold it just following the scoring line. You still have to fold like you would on an unscored paer, corner to corner.
You can definitely use the deboss tool with the Maker 3. It's just a personal preference I guess with the results I saw it seemed to be the better choice. You do need to change score lines to deboss lines in design space though which is an extra step.
You are supposed to score on the inside of the card or box and fold into the score. You folded away from the score which causes problems to the finished side
If you need to score a heavier paper/cardstock, duplicate the score line several times, align all of them together, position them, and attach like in the video. I was able to score 110-lb cardstock for a business-card holer on an Explore Air by repeating my score lines 5 times.
Hi, thanks for your video! Very helpful! It does make we wonder... could I also use a foil transfer tip instead? Has any one tried this? It looks like it is almost the same tip as the stylus.
I had considered that but when I've applied the foil transfer it doesn't really leave any lines. I am planning a video in future that will feature the foil tools so will keep that in mind. Thanks! ☺
But you can score some heavier materials by making multiple copies of the score line, aligning them together, and attaching them to the shape you want to score.
My scoring stylus didn't work well and actually unlocked during the stylus function, I have a circuit maker, have you had this happen? What do you suggest? I was using it on medium card stock
The Maker and Maker 3 are exactly the same except for smart materials so to answer your question, yes you can use the scoring tools. The scoring stylus can be used on both explore and Maker series machines.
I added a line to my card but I couldn’t figure out how to make it to deboss because it would only give me option to cut and perforate and score ..how do you choose deboss instead of score ??
My BRAND-NEW Maker 3 REFUSES to recognize the "01" scoring tip...I'm trying to cut/score cardstock. If I change my material selection to something that demands I insert the "02 Double-Scoring Wheel", it works just fine. ARRRRGH!
That's really odd, I would try clearing the cache and reboot your device. If that doesn't work, try uninstall reinstall but be sure to delete the program files. If that doesn't work, give cricut a call.
I've owned a Cricut Maker for 3 years and over time the scoring wheels lines have lost depth. Anyone knows if is it possible to recalibrate them? Thank you.
Unfortunately there's no way to calibrate. It may have become dull over 3 years. You could try replacing the scoring tip to see if it makes a difference or use the deboss tool
Near as I can tell (and from feedback on DesignBundles' Community) there is no way to adjust the pressure on the scoring tools. I tried the tools on my (then) new Maker (I only have it about 6 months, but have not Cricut-ed in a while), and the pressure/impression of the tools was basically garbage on anything heavier than 110-lb cardstock.
This is the BEST explanation I have heard being new to this whole thing of scoring. Gave me goosebumps how easy I was able to understand what you were saying

The best video on the internet for explaining Cricut stuff, esp. scoring!!!
That's so kind, thank you!

thank u ! what a great video I was hesitating between the scoring stylus and the wheel
Thanks for the support! ☺
Thank you so much! I am making a set of 120 boxes for a reception and have been struggling with the scoring wheel. Off to purchase the debossing tip!
Wow that's a lot of boxes, what material have you cut them out of?
Sorry if I’m replying in the wrong place! I am just using cheap Michaels store 65 pound card stock
I just feel like the scoring wheel didn’t score well enough for me to be patient and folding. I’m hoping that the deboss will work better.
@@xdlynnx370 yeah fair enough, it should definitely make more of an impression in the cardstock.

Thank toy for this video!!!! I was so frustrated trying to figure out why I couldn't change my tip on my fabric blade 😂 so clear how you explain👍🫶

@@ItsyBitsyBuild thank you for sharing this video 💜
I have the deboss tool, I wont speed more money for wheel. It works great for me.
Good idea, I think it works great.
Thank you for this video was very helpful, just a newbie with Cricut got my first Cricut machine the maker 3 for Christmas!
I'm so glad you found it helpful. Congrats on your new purchase ☺
Another extremely helpful and balanced video. Thank you
Thank you for the lovely comment!
u r totally answered the questions I thought of as the video went along. this is very useful. thanks for the great tip

Great Cricut hack !!! And cost effective too ...
Awesome vid and i am honestly suprised seeing the difference in results using the debossing tool 🤯

Can I use the Scoring tool in the Maker?
Yes, it fits into the A side of your accessory holder.
Can all these scoring tools be used on Cricut explorer air 2?
Only the scoring stylus unfortunately
But you can score some heavier materials by making multiple copies of the score line, aligning them together, and attaching them to the shape you want to score.
My scoring stylus didn't work well and actually unlocked during the stylus function, I have a circuit maker, have you had this happen? What do you suggest? I was using it on medium card stock
I haven't personally had this happen but other people have reported. I'd suggest calling cricut as this seems to be a manufacturing defect.
Can I score with a regular cricut maker or only cricut maker 3?
The Maker and Maker 3 are exactly the same except for smart materials so to answer your question, yes you can use the scoring tools. The scoring stylus can be used on both explore and Maker series machines.

If you're using a phone, deboss appears under the pen section, not under cut.

Hi Gillian, are you using the round looking wheel tool that came with your maker? If so, this is a rotary blade not a scoring wheel.
Thank you
