I've also found that Yngwie is a truly-underappreciated rhythm player. I love his use of inverted chords to add an interesting "skew" to a cool riff. Cheers, Rob.

Yep, that's something that people seem to miss. I've found the rhythm playing of Ynqwie and Vai to be the most challenging and sometimes downright impossible to play...

Actually he one of the worst rhythm players at least in comparison to the other shred neo classicals(that most of his bands he had a keyboardist), but no one listens to him for rhythms they listen for his shred mastery. Now Eddie Van Halen N NuNo Bettencourt are 2 cats who all famous for being lead guitarist but overlooked at how great their rhythms playing is.

Robert, the next time you do an Yngwie type lesson, you need to wear one of those silk puffy shirts that the man himself wears often and is so fond of. maybe a gold Rolex and some gold chains. Treat yourself and get your hair done up wavy like Yngwie. I would almost kill to see that. would be very funny.

At 10:00 or so when you are playing and say there’s a melody there from something…. The first 3 notes you played brought me back to around 2002 in junior high music class where I was one of the two electric bass players in the class and our teacher was in front of the class with a tarnished tuba almost bigger than he was leading us through the Jurassic Park theme song ….. once you get to play that to the point where everyone knows their parts and you have the brass woodwind percussion and rhythm Sections all together in person it’s a larger than life kinda feel and it still gives me chills thinking about it because that was the first time I got to experience playing music with a large group of people that were taking the time to practice and we’re serious…. We’re going on 20 years later and I still think about those times Mr. Rothwell was an amazing music teacher and he would take the time after class and give me some pointers on how to play this better or there’s an easier way to do that knowing that My passion was for the guitar but the closest thing the school had to offer was the electric bass and he would show me these little licks to play on the bass that I could transfer over to the guitar and he would explain where the riff would continue on past the 4 strings I had available and then give me a note excusing me for being 20mins. Late

Thanks Robert! I'm no shredder but I had fun with this lesson. It helped me in a different kind of way, too: since I was in standard tuning, I had to do a little transposition (pretty easy: just move down a half-step). What didn't work in standard, though, was Idea #2. For that, I need to work my ears a little more (or just tune down to Eb...what a concept!).

I love playing pedaltones, although I can't alternate-pick them cleanly enough at a Yngwie-ish speed. And I love soloing over happy pop songs with pedaltones, gives me that Yngwie vibe on an otherwise yucky pop song. Kinda like neutralising that icky, yucky poppish vibe.

I think of Yngwie ‘s playing to be SO full of sequences and patterns that l know he’s played possibly a few millions of times at this point. I think a big “BIG” book of sequences with audio examples would be great 😊. Why don’t YOU do another video concentrating on and pinpointing and clarifying sequences and show examples on turning any lick into a sequence. You kinda…. did it here but this really opens the fretboard up to us practicing wankers.

If Robert only had another guitar he could have avoided the fret problem...

Re 3:32, all my hair is nowadays behind both ears, sadly. On the plus side it means I’m constantly focusing.

    Maybe you’d be a shredder if you didn’t use a Strat? 🤔😉😂
I also see a re-fret in your future! 🎸🔮🥠 Amazing job working around that wonky 16th fret!
