  • Karve Shaving Co. (karveshaving.com/) is a Canadian razor manufacturer specializing in solid brass, bead blasted safety razors. Karve Shaving Co. utilizes interchangeable baseplates to offer a similar adjustable experience to that provided by the popular Rockwell 6S/6C razor system. The Christopher Bradley Razor is offered with seven base plate options a la carte. In this review, I will compare the Rockwell 6C which is my most used DE and most often used on my melon.
    The Christopher Bradley Razor is built very well. The fit and finish of this razor is similar to many premium priced razors. This is impressive considering this razor retails for less than anything in the premium space. There are no visible tool marks or unfinished areas. This has a nicer fit and finish than the Rockwell 6C. The tolerance of this razor is premium level as well. The base plate and cap design create a great pairing that hold the blade centered and securely for no misalignment potential. Tolerance is better than the Rockwell 6C.
    This razor shaves beautifully. At first I was most impressed by the C plate which comes in at a .85mm blade gap. Once I learned the razor’s angle and found the sweet spot though, the D plate took over as my most used. The .98mm gap of the D plate really took down my whiskers with ease. The rest of the plates measure out as follows: AA - 0.47 mm, A - 0.60 mm, B - 0.73 mm, C - 0.85 mm, D - 0.98 mm, E - 1.10 mm & F - 1.23 mm. The Christopher Bradley comes with one of three handle options (95g x 83mm long / 110g x 98mm long / 120g x 108mm) The one I am reviewing is 108mm variation. The razor has a fairly narrow sweet spot and the angle of attack is a bit shallower than most razors utilize. When mastered though, this razor just goes into “cruise control” mode. This is similar to my experience with the Rockwell 6C.
    Considering price and performance, this razor pretty astounding. If you were able to find the one or two plates best suited for you, this razor is a very nice investment into a premium feeling and performing razor at a fraction of the premium razor cost. This razor compares very favorably with the value of the Rockwell 6C and competes directly with the Rockwell 6S which comes in at the same price tag.

    Ruds ... great review. In my opinion the build quality and tight tolerances are second to none. This razor is truly an outstanding value. I have both the 3 and 3.5 inch handle plus B, C and D plates. For those who are wondering, I'd say the B plate is like a 2.5, C plate 4.5 and D plate 6.5 in reference to the Rockwell 6s razor. Hope this helps.

      Nice video sir. This brass Karve is one of the most beautiful timeless designs I have seen on a DE razor, so I shall purchase one as a collector's item. Please which of the karve plates are equivalent to the Rockwell R2 and R5 plates? I actually want to get one with two plates that swing between mild and mild-aggressive. Please advise.

    nice vid rudy,,,but just a little suggestion on karve (plates)...remember each plate not only changes in blade gap but also the blade exposure also changes. Gap is just one element and not the whole picture. Now you are one of the best for feeding us important info where other talk off topic and talk in depth abour soaps and scents. Half the vid is a waste of time. You are always spot on, on topic and informative which I truly apprecidate!

    I own or have owned a Charcoal L2, Wolfman .74, Blackbird, both Timeless gaps, Pils, Paradigm 17-4 and on. For pure shave and build quality (the threading is unmatched even by Wolfman) the Karve is as efficient as any of them but much smoother. It’s the finest DE razor made today.

    Sure. I find the E plate perfect for weekday shaves, D for quick out the door/rush and F is fantastic for weekend/longer growth. The whole cost , searching and waiting for a Paradigm or Wolfman is over imo. Too many great razors now made AS well. The DART this month too.

    • @brotherderek

      Hi Stuart,
      Karve is certainly making its mark, but wondering if you've tried The Dart yet. I have been experimenting with new razors and just had my first shave with The Dart. I like it a lot! Aggressive, but not overly so, and great quality as well.
      Can you compare the two if you've tried both? I shave every other day, so "daily driver" is not too much of an issue, as my skin is always fine after 48 hours anyway.
      Thanks...Derek

      Tough choices. The Karve and 6s have the ability to change plates if that is what you are after. Game Changer .84 is about the perfect shave though. For my money, GC .84 would be my choice simply because it shaves perfect for my style and I don't find myself ever changing plates.

    • @dendj55
      @dendj55  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hard to compare one to the other. The Timeless has flawless build quality and a specific head and base plate (.68 or .95). If that is your thing and you have the means, you cannot go wrong with a Timeless. The Karve offers more variability and less of a burden on the wallet.
