  • Karve Shaving Co. The Christopher Bradley Safety Razor (Brass Plate C)
The Razor: Karve Shaving Co. The Cristopher Bradley Safety Razor (Brass): This razor produced in Edmonton, Alberta provides a smooth and efficient shave. This razor shaves the most sensitive parts of the face exceptionally well and comfortably. The angle is natural and intuitive. Knurling is deep and grippy and extends down the length of the handle. The brass version has more heft than steel, but at less than half the cost. You can customize the razor to your preference with regards to material, comb type, handle length and baseplate. As you go from A to F, the baseplates offer increased blade gap and blade exposure. The C plate feels safe and smooth with little blade feel, but can still deliver a BBS shave, the ideal plate for me to use as a daily driver. The Karve CB is a top shaver, well worth checking out for newbies and seasoned wetshavers alike.
The Soap: Tabac. This is a classic German soap. Powdery barbershop with green tobacco, lavender and carnation. The strong 8-9/10 scent is a polarizing love it or hate it scent. I love it. A top performing and beloved soap base. It brings an extremely protective oily quality to the lather. The aftershave is has the same punch to it and lasts a whole workday on my skin. Check out my full Tabac Daily Shave review.
The Brush: Heritage Collection Merit Gelled Boar. This brushmaker is specializing in resurrecting hard to find vintage brush designs and bringing them to the people. Neil’s passion for vintage brushes comes through in his Heritage Collection. He also treats the natural hair knots with a gelling process, ensuring a soft, plush feel. The gelled boar knot used here feels softer than any other boar, with zero scritch, and 100% ready to use out of the box. As an added bonus, the knots have been shampooed and conditioned prior to sending out, removing the initial funk typical with animal hair brushes. Keep an eye out for your favorite vintage designs in badger, synthetic and boar options.
The Aftershave: Tabac. The same classic masculine barbershop scent as the soap. I imagine this is what John Wayne would have used.

Only have the brass with B closed plate. Would like to try a C plate. Smoothest razor I own. Just effortless. Tabac reminds me of the years spent in Germany. Thanks for the great video!

Matt you always do a wonderful job, very informative. I really like and enjoy my Karve's. I have the brass, aluminum, and the stainless steel. My favorite is the SS, but I truly like them all. The Karve is the smoothest razor I own. It works with tons of blades also. Thanks

Your technique with the DE is so good and fast. I usually watch your videos for the soap reviews and you’re usually using a cut throat. You make that DE look like you’re going through butter.

Great shave and as great review of the razor & the soap. Christopher Bradley one of my favourite razors. Performance, classic looks of this razor, material used. A piece of shaving gear to be relished for decades to come. One surprising thing about the design of this razor is that an overhang has been allowed. I put this down to a deliberate stylistic choice by the maker. There are 0 (zero) problems with blade alignment on this razor, therefore the overhang simply is not needed as a means of correcting any misalignment of the blade. Sometimes, I have wished there were no overhang and the blade were 100% contained inside the razor's head. Tabac is the soap you can buy, and then completely forget that there might be even better soaps out there, for Tabac is an excellent performer as it is. And yes, the smell is OK. For me the formula/performance of the soap is what carries the shave. I could be stranded on a desert island with Tabac as my only shaving soap, and I'd be very happy to shave with this only.

100 % agree about Tabac! I’m with you about the tab exposure / overhang- I’d also prefer covered tabs. My only guess it’s that they thought it would allow easier blade loading. But as for the shave itself, the Karve CB is hard to beat.

I’ve been on both the Aluminum wait list since May 2020 and the Titanium wait list since July. Now that I think about it, Max Sprecher is a freek’n speed demon! 🤣
