Not only this movie became a heartfelt film for my familia,me,and my ancestors that came from Mexico, but it warmed my heart & made my eyes swell in tears for the emotion, heart, and the spirit of my Mexican heritage & culture, even my favorite holiday,Dia De Los Muertos. When I was a kid,I heard stories from my family about our Mexican culture, traditions, music, and our familias that changed our lives.

The big celebration is actually in November the 2nd. Mexican families usually set up an altar in Octuber 27 if you ever had loss a pet, so we place the picture of our dead pet and a dish with his favorite treats and food and it's toys. Then we keep adding the picture of our love ones depending on how they deceased. On the 28 is for the ones they loss their lives tragicaly, the 29 is for the ones who died drowned in the water, in the 30th we just ligth some candles for the forgotten ones, in the 31st is for the kids, the 1st is for the saints ones and in the 2nd is for every one, that's when every mexican family gather all together in the cementery with food, drinks and music to celebrate our memories with them when they were alived.
Greeting from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. 😊

The dog, Dante is a breed called Xoloitzcuintli, or xolo for short. (Also known as the Mexican hairless). Xolo dogs are native to Mexico and were an important part of Mesoamerican culture because they were seen as a good companion, they were used as a treatmeant for the Ill and their body warmth was regarded as therapeutic when they laid in bed at someone’s feet. More importantly were also known as guides in the Aztec afterlife. They are a rare breed today and they remain quite primitive in their characteristics, they were close to extinction a couple times but thankfully they are still on earth with us. 🤍

In Mexico we celebrated the day of the dead (Día de Los muertos) on both November 1st and 2nd. November 1st is when the children arrive (we called them the angels) then on November 2nd is when the adults arrive. Most people would celebrate on the 2nd because they only have adult family which have passed. If you have young kids which have passed then you celebrate both.
You should watch “ El Pib “ a short film which explain this as well.

That scene never fails to make me cry. One of my best friends lost her Mother to Alzheimer's and I saw the way she just faded over the years. I was with her the first time she forgot who her daughter was and how much that devastated her. So that moment when Coco remembers her daughter gets me every time.
Additionally, Ernesto's punishment will be FAR worse than being forgotten. As the story spreads, fewer and fewer people will put up pictures of him, until eventually he will no longer be able to cross over. WHich means no more wealth of offerings. He will, become broke and destitute. But worse, he will not be forgotten. People will tell stories passed down in history books and stories and songs, so that he will still be there in the afterlife for generations. Villains tend to be remembered longer than heroes. And if the "final death" is just the spirits passing on to the true afterlife, then he will be denied that for a very long time, until he will want to end his misery but cannot.

Frida Kahlo, who lived in the first half of the 20th century, was amazing Mexican painter who did many self-portraits with her famous unibrow. Many had fantastical elements to them. She was very into questioning stereotypes and used her paintings to embody questions of postcolonialism, as well as gender, race, and so on. She was ahead of her time. I have always liked most of her work.

Btw if you were wondering what does the word “Coco” actually means, its just a nickname, (or more like a shortened version) since that name (the real version) it’s a really common name for grandmas and grandaunts in Mexico (actually we call my grandaunt “aunt Coco”, but my cousins, her grandkids call her “grandma Coco” cause she has that name) and the real name is Socorro, and all the “Socorro’s” we call them “Coco”.

according to Aztecs, all dogs, in particular xolos, Mexican hairless dogs, could cross back and forth from the land of the dead, the Mictlan. That's why Dante is so carefree in the land of the dead. if you had a dog and were good to it, it will surely help you cross over safely to Mictlan once you die. their help is greatly appreciated, since the road to Mictlan is nefarius. but roaming about, all dogs know shortcuts, so they'll keep you on the best route.

Here in Ecuador we don't say Day of the Dead, we say Day of the Dead, and we have been celebrating it for centuries. The indigenous people of Ecuador have honored their dead since ancient times. When the Spaniards arrived and introduced All Saints' Day, which is celebrated on November 1, the locals made this holiday their own. All Souls' Day, as it is celebrated today, is therefore a combination of Catholic religious celebrations and indigenous traditions.
The government decrees a holiday on November 2nd every year and all over the country a colada morada is made with Guaguas de pan, just yesterday 2/Nov/2023 people go to the cemeteries to visit their relatives, taking with them any kind of food to later sit next to a tombstone with the whole family to eat.
It is understandable that Mexico being in North America is more related to the film industry and many other things in the USA and therefore stands out more, but that's ok, anyway it is nice to see a Mexican brother receiving recognition. Greetings to all from 🇪🇨

Out of the songs in this movie, my favorite is "Un Poco Loco", which translates to "A little crazy". I love how they animated this movie and wrote the songs, on top of honoring Mexican culture and customs. (Despite me DESPISING Ernesto De La Cruz, even before learning of his villainous nature). It's *IMPOSSIBLE* to avoid crying while Miguel is singing "Remember Me" with Mamá Coco. Being Mexican-American, what makes this movie so special to me is the concept of family. On my family's ofrenda, one of the pictures we put up is of my paternal grandfather Marcelino. He died when I was in 8th grade (2005) and even now in 2023, going into 2024, it messes me up with emotion. Every day, I wish I could see him face-to-face one last time, give him a big hug and tell him how much I love and miss him. 😢😢😢😢

    03:32 - 03:36 So cute.☺💕 04:08 - 04:09 OH,YES,YOU ARE! I _PROMISE YOU_ you are! 28:21 - 28:38 , 34:19 , 34:57 Told you!🥺🥺🥺❤❤❤❤
    06:11 - 06:23 *YES!* And I *HATE* that!🤬💢 31:34 - 31:42 Best line of the whole movie!🤣🤣🤣🤣💞 34:42 - 34:47 It's not that,it's that the Day of the Dead is over.
I must say, though,I don't think anyone will really _forget_ Ernesto. Some will believe the Rivera are lying and he was the Good guy the whole time, others will know/believe the truth and probably hate him,but they will still all remember him,in 1 way or another.
    P.S. Pepita MVP!😎🐯💚

If you notice when Ernesto joins Imelda on stage he changes the key of the song to put it out of Imelda's range so she couldn't keep singing and follow him. Just another example of his gargantuan ego and need to hog the stage.

Well, it wasn't a nude photo...it was more of a parody of Life Drawing classes, with a nude model.
Because they're in the Land of the Dead, so it's Dead Drawing.
