It's because Ach-to is balanced in the light and dark, so the emperor would have been able to sense him unless he cut himself off from the force, which is what Luke did to not be found. Yoda would not have ever cut himself off from the force so he would have led the emperor right to him. Also he wanted to stay somewhere that he could be found if needed and Ach-to is a lost planet.
Also I think (I have no canon evidence to support this) at Yoda's age he was probably using the force just to keep himself alive, so if he cut himself off he could have died
This is precisely right actually. While Ahch-To was balanced in the force Dagobah was strong in the dark side so Yoda bought it into balance, meaning he could not be found. However, if he went to Ahch-To there would have been an unbalance because of his power- leading to him being able to be found.
I’m not a fan of the use of light and dark to separate the two sides of the force especially for this explanation. If the force truly acted like light and darkness, the darker the world, the more Yoda would have shown brightly within it versus if he was on a planet full of light, he would have blended in with so much brightness surrounding him. If you have a small candle, it shows up more brightly the darker its surroundings are. Darkness is simply the absence of light. You can’t actually add to darkness, only remove more light, but you can always add more light. The only instance where this is different is with observing a black hole with the naked eye as the energy of light is swallowed and collected with everything else making up the black hole’s mass. To the observer, light goes away as darkness grows, but really the light is just forced in the direction toward the singularity and not toward the observer. Are we to assume that the dark side acts more like gravity and swallows the light when it’s in a large enough concentration? Considering how often the dark side is said to consume its practitioners, this would make sense in terms of how they speak of the force. Does this mean the ultimate fate of the force is for the dark side to become so powerful that it consumes the light but ultimately destroys itself due to its overwhelming power being unable to sustain the enormous power it has collected at that point? Yes, I know, I’m an oddball...
One other reason for this, on top of everything you said: the dark side cave there masked Yoda's light presence, so Vader and Palpatine could not sense him easily from, say, Coruscant. Love your videos!
One of the main reasons for Yoda hoping to Dagobah was the strong connection the planet had to the dark side of the enough so that his presence would be hidden from Vader or sidious!
MeanMrMustard1 so explain your super highly smart interpretation as to why one director made a map to Skywalker in one movie and the other totally ignored that and made it to where Luke did not want to be found.
Another reason might have been that Degobah was actually a dark side force Nexus, meaning his powerful light side presence would be masked for force users, so neither Sidious nor Vader could sense him there.
There’s also the fact that in legends Yoda fought a dark jedi on Dagobah. It’s even explained that the dark side cave was created when the dark jedi was killed.
Well the empire more notably the emperor would search out every jedi temple. So at some point yoda beliefs would betray him and the empire would destroy the first jedi temple. While if he hid on dagobah he would be shrouded in the darkside to a degree that emperor palaptine would over look it.
could also be what Jocosta nu deleted from the jedi Archives maybe she erased the locations of temples like that one hell the one on Jakku i'm pretty sure had not been discovered by the sith (well not yet anyway)
Unless I’m mistaken Yoda went to Dagohbah because there was a strong Dark Side presence there that he hoped would help conceal his strong Light Side connection to enemies who may be looking for him. Luke wanted to meld with the Force and found a place with more balance
I happen to love the prequels, but most prequel haters blame Lucas so saying thankfully Rian Johnson had nothing to do with the originals was a good thing, when the creator is blamed for the dislike of the prequels shows that the creator himself isn't flawless. If this comment isn't for you, then it's for anyone who reads it who hates the prequels.
MeanMrMustard1 man I truly don't know what the hell your even going on about. My comment implies that I don't like episode 8. Nothing about the prequels or George lucas.
Rian Johnson had nothing to do with the originals, thankfully, according to you. You think it's a good thing he had nothing to do with them since you didn't like his vision of SW based on TLJ. Everyone puts the OT up on a pedestal but it was George Lucas responsible (plus the other writers). But he was also responsible, pretty much solely, for the PT, which are not universally loved. This shows the great creator is capable of creating something not so great, according to some. Regardless of what you think about the PT, you are not happy with TLJ. But there are those not happy with the PT so you share something in common with them. You are unhappy with one or more SW films. You blame Rian Johnson. George Lucas is responsible for the PT and gets the blame, but he also gets the praise for the OT. Do I really need to reiterate to this degree?
It's because Dagobah is a planet completely submerged in the Dark Side of the force meaning Yoda's presence is hard to find. If he was on Ahch-To he could have been found by the Emperor and Vader by sensing a large signature of light side in the force.
I feel Ach-To while sacred to the Jedi, had the balance that wouldn't hide his force signature all that well. That's most likely the reason he chose to avoid there
Also, Dagobah is very strong with the Dark Side of the Force. It easily masks Yoda's Force signature from anyone attempting to feel his light side presence through the Force.
I assume that Yoda didn't go to Ahch-To because Vader and the Emperor had control of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where they had access to all the Jedi's secrets. So going to a sacred Jedi location would be too risky. After the Battle of Endor, Luke could have secured the Jedi records. That's if the location was known. It could have been lost and might have taken Luke years to find it. Yoda didn't have the luxury of wandering around the galaxy visiting ancient libraries.
My guess is that Dagobah is still in the mapping system where it would be easy to find him. Plus I'm not saying that Luke couldn't find Dagobah but there was only two people who knew where Yoda was at after Order 66 and Yoda never had any time to left any clues where to him after that time too.
I don’t think Yoda has any knowledge of Anch-To, so he couldn’t have considered it for exile. And I’m not so sure it WAS some kind of force destiny that led Yoda to Dagobah. Remember that he wasn’t just going to be alone, he was going to hide from everyone. If you remember Return Of The Jedi, Luke (who had minimal training) could sense that Vader was on a certain Star Destroyer. Sidious was significantly stronger than Luke so, if Yoda had gone somewhere that wasn’t too far out of the way, it’s safe to assume that someone as powerful as Sidious would be able to concentrate and sense a Jedi grandmaster as powerful as Yoda. Remember when Luke’s ship arrived in orbit around Dagobah he said, “I’m not picking up any cities. Massive lifeform readings, though.” Yoda was able to mask his presence with those ‘massive lifeform’ readings. So Dagobah was way out of the way and you’d never have any reason to go to a swamp planet, so many lifeforms (plant, animal, etc.) would mask his presence, and the Empire wouldn’t ever consider looking there for him.
Dagobah was able to balance Yoda’s light side force signature with its natural dark side force energy. If he went to Ahch-To, he would stand out due to the force already being balanced on that planet defeating the purpose.
I think Yoda considered Dagobah because he needed to hide from the Empire and Dagobah is naturally strong in the dark side, so Darth Sidious and Darth Vader wouldn’t think to search there because they’d never believe that a Jedi would exile themselves to a planet strong in the dark side of the force
Dagobah was essentially a planet filled with dark-side energy, which was good enouth to hide Yoda from Vader and Palpatine's senses. While on Ahch-To, perhaps Yoda's presence could have been sensed since it's a planet at balance and Yoda's light-side energy would be noted. That's a complementary opinion I guess
I think another reason yoda went to dagobah is because it was a planet filled with the dark side and he was using it to mask his presence in the force, because im sure that as soon as yoda left the planet palatine would find him.
Because the people who wrote The Clone Wars never thought that there would be in episode 7 or 8 or an episode 9 on the way or other spin-off movies that's why they went with Dagobah
Because Lucas wrote Empire and didnt make Jedis chumps. Achto was a waste and them telling us that it has importance but never showing means nothing. Achto is a resort island with zero importance other than kennedy saying it is old and dagobah is a living planet that helped move a story about a hero’s quest.
I think Yoda actually foreseen when Luke would arrive on there. I also think Yoda chose there because it confused his pursuers and they would never look there for a Jedi Master.
The way I see it the reason why Yoda didn’t go to it was because it’s too open It had a civilization while a primitive one it’s more likely that passerby ships Luke was truly able to hide because he severed from the Force no one like Snoke or Ren can sense him Ach-Tou is filled with life but not as much as Dagobah Being a swamp planet almost every inch is filled with swamp and life Yoda who apparently didn’t sever from the Force needed the densely life filled planet to mask his presence from Vader and the Emperor And it being less pleasing made it less likely for ships to land or being able to land for that matter To conclude the way I see it, Yoda went to Dagobah because it’s less likely for passerby ships to find him, the more life filled planet masks his presence in the Force, and unlike Auc-Toh it seems that Dagobah was erased from Archives as it’s amongst the worlds that Dooku erased when he hid Kamino Auc-Toh was in Imperial Databases and is more likely to be tracked down than it Dagobah would as Yoda found it because he was guided there by Qui-Gon Jinn
Most awesome vid!!!!!!!! Went to Dagobah Yoda did guided by the force to go their Yoda was as much more suited to needs Dagobah was to populated Ach-To was found him much fast the Sith would've!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could his power within the force have disrupted the balance of the planet? On Degobah, his power balanced the darkness of the planet. Lule removing himself from the force also removed his input imo the light side of the force
Abraham Lainez because the rebellion wanted to find Luke and not the Temple for one. They would have known the map to the Temple would have inevitably lead to Luke. Like was then a myth at the beginning of TFA therefore the idea of a map would have been passed along as a game of Chinese Whispers- the accuracy of the claim would likely have been lost over time
And he gave that map to Lor San Teka before he left to go there. Your argument is analogous to me getting map to Disneyland, giving it to you, telling you I am going to Disneyland, and then saying 'go away' when you arrive at Disneyland. Its not a map to Luke Skywalker, its a map to the place Luke Skywalker is. If that distinction is meaningful to you, I don't see why.
I think your video are very interesting and helpful however I think there is a better explanation for why. The reason being even if yoda knew the location of ahch-to he would not have gone there due to the fact it would have been very easy for the empire to sense him there through the force. See master yoda didn’t shut himself of from the force and being that he was a very strong force user, that came at a very very high risk of being sensed by either the emperor or Darth Vader. So he chose to go to dagobar where the darkside of the force was strong to balance this out with his own lightside of the force making it nearly impossible for anyone let alone the empire to find him. Going to a highly regarded lightside of the force planet would have only drew the empire to him much more easily, being so strong with the force, unless he were to have done what luke did and shut himself off from the force. Your thoughts on my thought and opinion would be greatly appreciated 🙂
dude he could barely walk in the prequel trilogy (hence why you sometimes saw him in a floating chair) if he kept on living he'd be on life support there's only so much the force can help keep you alive before even it reaches it's limit
The REASON Yoda went to Dagobah and NOT Ahch-To is SIMPLE. The writers came up with Yoda and Dagobah in 70's LONG LONG LONG before NEW writers came up with the idea of Ahch-To. THAT'S WHY!!!!!!!

Bobi Phett The seagulls(porgs) will come and poke him on the coconut
Bobi Phett They think Yoda is one of their species.

Billy Huyton because bad storytelling.
You both are bad interpreters of storytelling.

You think someone who's hate seagulls would travel to an island filled with porgs?... dont think so
Another reason might have been that Degobah was actually a dark side force Nexus, meaning his powerful light side presence would be masked for force users, so neither Sidious nor Vader could sense him there.

More like Ahch-Finger.
Or Ahch-one

Qui gon didn't want anyone except for Jedi to find yoda.
Amazing video keep up the great work
Thankfully because rian johnson had nothing to do with the originals
Which makes no sense since the creator George Lucas had everything to do with the prequels.
MeanMrMustard1 never even said what I thought about the prequels so yea... Pointless comment.

aneurysms3535 thanks for your opinion pal
Of course here come the fanboys to Disney sw's defense.
Abraham Lainez what mate
In battlefront 2 Luke found a device which is apparently a compass so that’s how he might have found it
The main reason was, that dagobah is strong in the dark side which hides yodas light-side presence from palpatine and vader
Also Yoda wanted to mask his light side presence and Luke didn't have one because he disconnected himself from the force
Yoda should have gone to Ach-To it would have been fun to see Yoda devour innocent Porgs
I think Yoda actually foreseen when Luke would arrive on there. I also think Yoda chose there because it confused his pursuers and they would never look there for a Jedi Master.
The way I see it the reason why Yoda didn’t go to it was because it’s too open
It had a civilization while a primitive one it’s more likely that passerby ships
Luke was truly able to hide because he severed from the Force no one like Snoke or Ren can sense him
Ach-Tou is filled with life but not as much as Dagobah
Being a swamp planet almost every inch is filled with swamp and life
Yoda who apparently didn’t sever from the Force needed the densely life filled planet to mask his presence from Vader and the Emperor
And it being less pleasing made it less likely for ships to land or being able to land for that matter
To conclude the way I see it, Yoda went to Dagobah because it’s less likely for passerby ships to find him, the more life filled planet masks his presence in the Force, and unlike Auc-Toh it seems that Dagobah was erased from Archives as it’s amongst the worlds that Dooku erased when he hid Kamino
Auc-Toh was in Imperial Databases and is more likely to be tracked down than it Dagobah would as Yoda found it because he was guided there by Qui-Gon Jinn
Most awesome vid!!!!!!!! Went to Dagobah Yoda did guided by the force to go their Yoda was as much more suited to needs Dagobah was to populated Ach-To was found him much fast the Sith would've!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yoda went to Dagobah because the Dark Side was strong on this planet and it helped Yoda hiding his presence from Vador and Sidious.
Yoda didn't want to drink green alien walrus milk
Atch-to was a light side nexas. Yoda didn't want to reviel himself to the empire
because the empire would definitely be checking there for Jedi.
He could have also been detected by the dark side on Ach To.
All those swamp trees are force sensitive trees
Could his power within the force have disrupted the balance of the planet? On Degobah, his power balanced the darkness of the planet.
Lule removing himself from the force also removed his input imo the light side of the force
Dagoah fit in the studio.
But luke did want to be found... he left a map(and then he didnt want to be found😂)
Terry Cupboards so why did lor San teka and everyone else in ep 7 call it the map to Skywalker?
Abraham Lainez Because I wrote my name there.

Kevin John he should not have left any trace of where he was going if he went to die. But yes I understand you
Because Yoda doesn't know how to fish.
Because the Dark Side was strong on Dagobah and he could be hidden from the Emperor there.
I think your video are very interesting and helpful however I think there is a better explanation for why.

Can you do what if yoda was still alive now
dude he could barely walk in the prequel trilogy (hence why you sometimes saw him in a floating chair) if he kept on living he'd be on life support there's only so much the force can help keep you alive before even it reaches it's limit
Yoda went to Dagobah because the darkside nexus hid his lightside entity and also allowed him to see through the darkside cloud
Revenge of the Sith was 10 years ago for Disney took over everything so technically Ach-To didn't exist yet
The only reason Yoda didn't go to Ahch-To was because it never existed before Disney came along and made it exist and cannon.
Well I would say that Yoda was in hiding so why not go to a swamp planet where he easily was able to hide in the open.
I’m really still finding it hard to care anymore after the debacle that is TLJ....
R.I.P Admiral Ackbar: *Forever trapped in our hearts*
I wish he had gone to Mortis.
No way. I disagree
mortis is cool but I would rather Yoda
Ezra Stasavage I see. I just think Morris would be better since it’s hidden and the force is very powerful there.
Annie and Elsie of Arende thats the main problem, its HIDDEN.
He could still be guided there, by Obi Wan in hopes that Luke would do more research into defeating Snoke.
Simple answer. Yoda was a Jedi. The Jedi were being killed. Not very safe to hide on an Island of the first Jedi Temple.
Yoda just didn't went to Ach-to because the planet didn't exist in episode 5
Funny. The senate cannot interfere with jedi affairs. Senate beats the Jedi
also dagobahsdark side energy hid his presence there
Yeah dagobah's afinity to tje dark side would hide yoda's light side better. In achto he'd have exposed himself amd the jedi's texts, tree, etc
The big question is, why didn't Luke just go to Dagobah?
Because of the less then favorable tax rates there- plus an ocean view is expensive :).
The discord is great
It's Ahch-To, not Ach-To
It was because empire strikes back was made before the last jedi
Porgs, Yoda fears.
Because George Lucas didn't know about Ach-To. He he he.
The REASON Yoda went to Dagobah and NOT Ahch-To is SIMPLE. The writers came up with Yoda and Dagobah in 70's LONG LONG LONG before NEW writers came up with the idea of Ahch-To. THAT'S WHY!!!!!!!
