    Thank you for this guidance. I always liked using a fountain pen but haven 't used one in many years. Now that I am retired and have a little time on my hands, I like to journal and today my Pilot Metropolitan with fine nib just arrived in the mail at 10:30 AM. I'm so excited that in celebration I took a photo of it. Silly, huh?

    “Don’t say I didn’t warn you!” That was great! This is a very good Fountain Pens Introduction video and it should help beginners quite a bit. I learned something too, even being a constant user for about 3 years. I had not thought about why you should not dip a converter into the ink to fill then attach it to you pens feed. I had not thought about the corrosion aspect, but, I do wipe down the end of the converter before I attach it. I also wipe down the end of the cartridges after I syringe refill them. I just like the good pen hygiene, I hadn’t thought about corrosion.

      Christiaan Bronoord I've been marathoning FP videos for the past couple of days honestly.

    • @cbronoord
      @cbronoord 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, it's a secret that's not a secret. Fountain pen ink can really set you back. A bottle of 60 ML usually start at about 7 bucks, depending where on the world you are. For most of the time, I write with ecoline waterpaint or even cheaper... food colouring. Here in The Netherlands a bottle of 70 ML food colouring (True it's more green than blue) only is 2.25 Euro's.
      Especially if you're like me and you write your pages only to throw them in the trash once you're done with them, is a lot cheaper. I admit, it's not as smooth as normal ink. And I would use it in a more expensive pen. But as an author, I only write my books by hand, to re-write them when I put them in a word document. After that, I don't save my handwritten work. So why would I use my expensive ink on that. Food colouring works just as good. As long as it's liquid enough.

    • @kyokusei
      @kyokusei 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christiaan Bronoord Yeah I agree with that. I just watched his video on that yesterday, although I don't know how long food coloring would last without fading, since I typically write in a notebook which I may reference later in the year rather than throwing it away.

    My understanding is that pen makers say that the writing point of the nib is iridium....but it ain't. It seems to be an industry general term for a high quality alloy of various compositions. For example, ruthenium, tungsten and rhenium as is the case with Montblanc.

    Is that a real problem to put off the converter and fill it with ink out of the pen, the replace it into the pen (after a rub into a towel) ? With a Lamy Aion I see no alternative. If you put the pen straight into the bottle, ink will mark the grip section. I did it once and can still see the purple stains of ink I was using at the time.
    Was I wrong all this time ? ... :/

    • @kanishka.b8550
      @kanishka.b8550 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Saucissauce nope I guess! Give a good wipe & it’ll be good....the main down side is lot of ink is used to saturate the feed and only a small amount of ink is left given that converters tend to have lesser capacity than cartridges!

    pretty much all the "don't do's" he listed for writing are things I did with a $2 promotional fountain pen I picked up from somewhere. the only way to get it to write was to turn it upside down and work it. not a good pen. it was fun anyway though and I used it until it ran dry. I don't have a real fountain pen, but if I ever get one then I'm glad this foray into my 4 AM youtube recommendations will have paid off.

    Excellent video! You addressed almost everything I needed. I bought inexpensive fountain pens on a whim and the directions for the cartridges were terrible. I ended up loading from a bottle and I did it exactly the WRONG way by loading straight into converter because I couldn’t get ink to load through the nibs 🤦‍♀️ I did wipe it all down.
    Can you tell me the types of ink that can be used? India ink? Speedball ink? I want to use my pens for my artwork. I do line & wash and want to try something new for the line work. I need to use bleed proof ink. Ty!

    I found a dusty fancy box in my parents room last week and it turned out to be a fountain pen! So i took it and went to buy some ink cartridges for it but they only had one pack left was pretty cheap tho so i boght it even though it didnt fit the size at all, so i came back home and tried to insert it and it was but bit long and a bit thin,, so i cut off a bit of the cartridge's tip to make it shorter and it snapped right in!!! And i also stuffed some papers on the gaps for support..

    Great video! I just bought 2 fountain pens today to practice my chinese handwriting. One is Sheaffer medium point and other one is Lamy Fine point. I bought black, green and purple ink. And why are you so handsome with kissable lips? I am mesmerized by your lips. 💕

    How does ink comes out so nicely with your pens?, Is it because of the ink or the pen?, If it is the ink then please guide me with ink?

    I have been building a list of fountain pens I want to try for my introduction into using them again. (I used to use one in grade school and loved it until it broke and I was not allowed to get another one for some stupid reason I still do not know)
    The list so far is: Junhao 250 Med. Nib - Moonman M2 Fine Nib - Twisbi Eco Fine Nib. The latter two I have seen listed on many forums and reviews as good pens, your videos included. What kind of ink and paper would you recommend for a beginner that is not expensive? I am going to be starting back to school next year and need something that will be smooth and dry fast but I need a paper that will not let in bleed through too much. Currently the pens I use are, an Inc R2 Rollerball that I only use for diagrams and things that do not need a fine point as its a 0.7mm point and bleeds quickly so the lines come out between 0.9mm and 1.2mm. I use a Pilot Precise V5 RT which is a 0.5mm gel-pen. I prefer the pilot because it creates nice fine points but it is not as smooth as the R2. I use them because I cannot stand feeling the pen drag across paper and I do not need to apply any pressure to get them to write. Currently the standard notebook paper I use does not give way to bleeding unless I use the R2. Current Ink choice is one I have seen in many of your videos, its the Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue. Any advice you or anyone who reads this can give me would be greatly appreciated.

    I found mine at 5 below💀😂😂 been looking for it for years I just refuse to spend more thank about 10 bucks on a simple pen for cursive writing. Thinking about using one of em to sketch with though.. it came w/ 2 pens w the angled nip and 4 replacement cartridges (unlike the dip style where you would purchase a bottle to fill a permanent section/home in the nip)

    Be aware that if someone visits a specialist fountain pen shop to get their first fountain pen, they will ask him a lot more questions. By knowing how someone writes, slow, fast, big of small, a good fountain pen can be selected. Also, not every type of paper accepts every type of fountain pen. If a fountain pen writes like heaven on one type of paper, it can feather on another. That's why authors usually have several pens at the ready (At least I do).
    A good (and expensive) fountain pen is personal. It sets to your hand. If someone else were to use that pen, it doesn't work anymore. Like with your first car, begin with a cheap pen and work your way up. And try not to get too exited about cheap pens on Chinese websites. A specialist will decline them instantly. Each pen feels slightly different. And they may write just as good as expensive pens. But you can only use one pen at the time. Though if after a few weeks or so you discover that fountain pens are not for you, it's only a small price.
    Also important, do not panic if your pen starts to drip. Usually it's nothing serious. Maybe the converter of cartridge came loose, or the feed is too wet. Every problem can be solved.
    Sorry J for busting your video like this, but this is a little info that's always on my mind and I kinda missed it. Perhaps it's for an advance guide... Keep it up

      Have lent out plenty of pens. Someone else using it is not an issue with a Manifold (nail hard nib). I just tell the person write zero pressure with only weight of pen. Lending may be an issue with soft or flex nibs if a person has a heavy hand.
