    Pilot 823 and pelikan m1000 montblanc 149 are the holy trinity in fountain pen world IMO. However, I love long lasting thing so simple filling mechanism I like most. S T Dupont and Caran d’Ache fountain pen are exceptional for the detail. I’ve been fall too deep in this rabbit hole for 11 years.

    I would like to add some info and opinions for some of the models:
    1- SCHON DSGN Pocket-6 made out of black ultem (AKA: "Smoltem"):
    - Incredible lightweight
    - It looks like metal despite being made of nice plastic
    - The material is excellent if you are dealing with some possible risks and might need to dip it in bleach... Or you like Noodler's BayState Blue (Biochemistry Student, this pen is acceptable in the lab)
    - The amount of o-rings allow you to use it as an eyedropper with a big ink capacity (Despite being the pocket model)
    - The Jowo nibs are quite nice in general and it is compatible with any other Nº6 nib made by Jowo (And you can even ram up some Sailor Nibs) or if you buy the special section, you can even put a Nº8 from Bock (This option is exclusive for the plastic models)
    - Despite being made in a small scale, it's quality is overall excellent
    - Be careful if you are like me and get the black model, it's hard to tell the level of ink sometimes
    - The price is quite deep for most people
    2- Noodler's Ahab, in this case I offer another option for the same price (Charlie Pen)
    - I recommend going for the free Charlie pen that comes with the big bottles of ink
    - It feels like you're writing with a sharpened pencil
    - Only works as an eyedropper, don't expect the same quality control as the one above for 1/10; 1/20 of the price, don't go overboard with the ink as it will spill it out thanks to Gay-Lussac's law
    - But it is hecking cheap, the nib alone is like USD 2 and you can buy them in bulk (Perfect if you fear losing it, or bring it to work where everything that isn't nail down trends to disappear)
    - You buy a giant bottle of ink :D
    - (Careful, it is made of vulcanized rubber and during the first day will... STINK, like... holy smokes)
    And yes, I'm using BayState Blue in my Smoltem pen

      @@LANCSKID Montblanc has a nice classic design but it rides on its name. It has a cool nib and thats about it, the plastic body just feels sucky. A lamy 2000 is like a quarter of the price, has a beautiful hooded plated gold nib that feels solid rather than too flexy, a nice brushed stainless steel grip that seamlessly transfers to a quality feeling polycarbonate body. It embodies modern design perfectly without feeling like it's cutting corners.

      @@LANCSKID Montblancs nowadays, especially the 149s are really not that nice for the price you're paying. you're much better off getting a Lamy 2000, Sailor 1911/Progear, Pelikan M1000, Waterman Carene or Pilot Custom/E95s.

    I’ve enjoyed your pen reviews and thinking of purchasing a fountain pen soon. I have several from 10 years back but nothing recent. Curious which 1-2 you tend to gravitate to. I’m leaning Gravitas or Schon. And which 1-2 inks you use most. Thanks!

    • @BeastMadeReviews
      @BeastMadeReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gravitas and Schon DSGN are really the ones I use a lot. Schon DSGN is absolutely perfect each time. Gravitas is a joy to use, and I think they offer more bang for the buck. If I were to recommend one to someone like yourself, Gravitas would probably be my choice. I like their metal pens, but some people prefer their acrylic offerings.

    I'm a little late to the party, but you touched a subject I really enjoy. I've been using fountain pens since I was a teenager, so I guess almost 40 years now. I've had good ones, that were inexpensive and I have had absolute garbage and paid way too much. But I will tell you one that I really like, that has stood the test of time (and about 10 million miles worth of ink for me), is the venerable Parker Vector. Extremely durable, and I never had one that wasn't good, and I've had a lot that were really good writers. Is it exciting? No. But they.write well, and last forever.

      I am torn on whether or not to put the price with every suggestion. Sometimes I think it fits, and other times, it seems like an unnecessary point. I focus more on the build, materials, and overall quality, so I usually just leave it to the viewer to decide for themselves if the product is worth the cost. But thank you for your comments.

    I have a huge issue with the ahab pens, and a smaller one with the Narwhal/Navalhur. The noodler’s is not really flex, the nib is very inconsistent, tines get unaligned time and time again, it’s scratchy, the ebonite feed just doesn’t keep up and dries quickly, lots of railroading, the piston gets too hard. An overall bad experience.
    And I like the navalhur pens, they are beautiful, but their in-house nibs are not very good, very inconsistent and subpar, with drier inks they just don’t hold up, would be better if they changed to something standard like bocks or jowos.
    Neither of those are “amazing” or “excellent”

    Sorry, but you lost me with the Amazon Basics pen. It isn't worth fifty cents, and I can easily get pens with buttery smooth nibs for less money. NO pen with a rough nib is ever a good value. I can also get pens for less money that come with a converter. This alone is a deal breaker. You couldn't pay me to take this pen.

    • @manuelsalazar3938
      @manuelsalazar3938 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@arastu_G I totally disagree, the Amazon Basics pen has exactly the same quality as any Jinhao, some people even speculate that it's indeed made by Jinhao. By the way, mines only accepted Jinhao converters 😂
      Where I totally agree with you is that it must be offered with a converter.

    • @arastu_G
      @arastu_G 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@manuelsalazar3938 I see your point, the one I own was terrible and its nib was so scratchy that I just gave it away, I have seen reviews of people facing the same problem, might be the one you own is actually good. Jinhao convertors are quite generic, both pens are manufactured in China (I think) that might allow jinhao convertors to fit in Amazon basics one, but the overall built of the amazon fountain pen is just cheaper than it's price, Jinhao pens are still better than amazon's just by the overall quality and value.

      Sorry... I HAVE to say something here... You're trying to compare a pack of 12 for a dollar DISPOSABLE pens with a Fountain Pen???
      Take all those 2-fer's, the 3-fer's, and even that fine old Parker you STILL have to repeatedly order replacement cartridges for (at 2 to 4 for $10) to keep writing... AND a single cartridge, if you actively USE it every day, will get you 1 to 3 months of solid use before it starts skipping, forces you to shake it around, beat and scritch-scratch it on the pad, and eventually just crumple in and change that cartridge out...
      NOW, for a Solid Fountain pen, you can expect to get a wonderful feel for $20 for the pen... AND a jar of 3 oz. of Noodler's Bulletproof Ink is another $20... AND you'll write for YEARS on that... $0.79 for a bottle of 90% alcohol WILL readily and repeatedly clean it out, and you CAN mix it about 50/50 with water to stretch the stuff out for more cleanings, which I prefer, though hitting a "stain" with the pure 90+ IS a helpful option... AND with just reasonable care, you'll keep that pen going for the rest of your life. Unless you WANT to play around with other colors, the Noodler's Bulletproof Black is a fine archival ink that CAN NOT be faded or removed. You can pour acetone on the page and you'll dissolve the paper before you remove my writing from it! That helps in my business where 90% of everything I make notes about I have to sign and date, because it counts as a legal document... AND to keep unscrupulous thugs from trying to forge notes or change receipts or anything, I just prefer to keep the damn Noodler's and relax. I don't have to worry about it. If it ever gets to court, I can demonstrate my work for the court, and prove the point, "If you don't find Noodler's in MY signature, MY thumbprint, and MY handwriting, you don't have MY work... period... EVER."
      That's already saved "us" from a suit that was trying for $100,000 in back-pay, fines, and damages... and potentially neverending "punitive damages" on top of it. I DOUBT one of your Bic "indelible" dollar store pieces of crap would do that. They hold up okay in the rain a little, but not in chemicals, around automotive solvents, or laboratory grade cleansers like Noodler's... AND you can't get Noodlers in a BIC... It's a good ballpoint, but it's only EVER going to be a BIC...
      AND finally, my penmanship can truly SHINE with a fountain. I have ULTIMATE control of line width, even with my FINEST points, giving a flare and flourish that's not only fun to write with, but makes it interesting and IMPOSSIBLE to imitate for the "average Joe" off the street... EVERYONE knows who wrote it before they even see the signature... AND folks just plain enjoy getting the greeting cards, post cards, and other letters, memo's or anything else I write for them...
      SO you can argue "It's too much money"... ALL you want, but all you're going to get is a NO class having, sad little marking device. I'll drop a little more coin and show some REAL class with a fine writing INSTRUMENT... Great review! These are almost all great pens. But Noodlers has shown themselves to harbor anti-Semitic (at the very least) views, just as Robert Oster’s founder has defended racism and the company has engaged in “patent trolling”

      That’s a bullshit accusation. Just because Noodler’s owner criticized someone’s economic policies doesn’t make them anti-Semitic. You people that are hyper sensitive and look for every reason to be offended are an absolute pain in the ass for all the rational and reasonable people in the world. No one likes you and it would be greatly appreciated if you would just shut up long enough to look at things objectively before you go into a tizzy about every insignificant comment you don’t like.

    Every time I see Noodlers I just think that Westerners are getting scammed. That pen is actually an Indian pen from the brand Kanwrite, they make great nibs so I always prefer their nibs but not their pens. As there are far better Indian pens.

      @@BeastMadeReviews all in all I am not saying that pen is bad. For I actually have Kanwrite nibs in 2 of my pens and I love them. But there body quality annoys me. And for 20+ dollars which is twice for what you get this pen for in India. I am skeptical if that is value for money. But the nibs are very very good. For 10-15 dollars that pen is a no brainer.
