VANLIFE in Turkey | Our First Impressions | Road Trip

- We are finally getting into the swing of things in Turkey, getting used to the cuisine, the prices and the dogs. We even meet some fellow vanlifers & TH-camrs on the road (Courts & Meeks and John & Mandy) so loved a wee convoy with them across the water from Eceabat to Cannakule. We officially made it to mainland Turkey and can't believe our little home on wheels has brought us this far!
⤈ WHO WE ARE ⤈
We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. So after waiting for six months for the borders to reopen in Ireland we have finally hit the road in June 2021 and spent 90 days enjoying vanlife in Spain. Then we spent the next two months enjoying vanlife in Croatia before heading onto Serbia which we loved, and now made it all the way to TURKEY.

You will like prices in Turkey ..i have been 2 times in last month ..everything is so much cheaper then in Serbia
Yes the prices are very good for us, we are able to live quite cheaply with the pound conversion, but it is also very sad for the Turkish population as I know their economy is suffering a lot.

Yeah we are heading to Geyikbayriri soon! And Olympus area, looks like it's gonna be awesome!! Definitely a lot better here in winter than in our home country 😂😂 we were swimming in the sea yesterday and were like it's crazy this is late December and it's warm!!

d) Izmir City e) CESME & ALACATI Beachtowns e) Small Fishertown "SIGACIK" f) The Mountainvillage & Vinery Village "
SIRINCE" and a visit in Ancient City of EPHESUS g) Bodrum but on the Way you can Camp at the georgeous Lake BAFA and dont miss the RUINS of the ZEUS Temple from EUROMOS Ancient City .

Funny you should mention the film the bunker as our son was in it as a Russian soldier, the interior of the bunker was a prop built in an old church in Glasgow, just as a bit of trivia for you 😂😂😂

I laughed at the we will rock you input 😂😂😂 so funny. I also never seen anyone munching on a giant piece of helva like you did 😂😂 normally eaten with bread. There is a sizeable uk camper van community in Turkey at the moment. I know 5 Vans but one of them just left Turkey before Christmas. Turkey is getting very popular especially with its weak currency. Also ready to eat food isn't very popular in Turkey. Should you eat hand made food, it will taste 1000x better, especially sarma. 😉
Glad you got a laugh from it 😂 We never thought to put helva on bread we've just been eating slices of it like animals haha! I think you are right food hand made from scratch always tastes the best!! Thankfully for the Turkish people the currency seems to be fighting back, it was 22TL to the pound a week ago and now its 15TL, so hopefully this is a sign of their economy recovering ❤️❤️ thankyou so much for watching 🥰🥰

@@dib4152 hahaha that's alot of water!!! Epic that you are in NZ! It's meant to be so incredibly beautiful there. We have never been, we spent a year in Australia and everyone said NZ was more lush and Jurassic feeling, so I bet it's going to be awesome for vanlife!!

The artillery/cannon thing and those bunkers were most probably from the WW1 era, you might heard of the Battle of Gallipoli happened in 1915-1916..
In addtion unfortunately as a vegan you'll probably have a hard time in Turkey since meat is a big part of the food culture. You were lucky finding 5M Migros, it's hard to find them in rural areas, especially in the East. Other good grcoery chains are Carrefoursa and Macrocenter for the similar quality of foods so you can try them as well.
Thankyou so much for sharing the other grocery chains that will help us a lot. Yes you are correct we have realised it's a lot harder to find vegan options than we thought it might be here, but we are trying to learn foods that are traditional that are vegan, there are some lentil based dishes we would like to try, and we tried vegetable Pide (I think that's what it was called) it was DELICIOUS bread with veggies on top 🥰. I didn't realise this was the exact spot of that battle, I just read up and seen that it was here, I always thought that big battle took place north of Istanbul area (obviously not very good with geography 😂), very interesting to read it was actually the Gelibolu peninsula Thankyou so much for watching and sharing this information ☺️☺️
A good time to be a tourist with foreign currency in Turkey. They are experiencing hyperinflation, which is devastating for the locals unfortunately. All the best
Yes best time for us but terrible for their local economy. We seen that they are going to increase wages and therefore increase prices to try and level it out, I hope it works for their economy ❤️❤️ it is sad to see hyper inflation in action (even though it's good for us)

You should have tried more Serbian cuisine. Sarma in cabbage leaf is better. Niš and southeastern Serbia have the best restaurants and food in Serbia. Come again. :)
We definitely hope to visit Serbia again maybe in Summer months. Yeah we would love to explore the local cuisine more and find all the vegan friendly dishes we can try 🥰🥰 Serbia definitely stole our hearts 💓💓

Welcome to Turkey, i hope you will have a wonderful experience. But i must to say the worst thing to be a vanlifer in Turkey is to be a vegan. We have the best foods in the world but most of them not suitable for vegans.

So many wonderful looking foods from street stalls etc but we can't eat much of it, but we enjoy trying to learn which traditional dishes are vegan friendly. We absolutely love cig kofte (the one without meat) it's so so so delicious, I want to learn to make myself for future 🥰🥰
