Ephesus Ancient City | VANLIFE in TURKEY | Ayvalik Bazaar

  • This has been a real eye opener! We are learning a lot during our time in Turkey, we knew pretty much nothing about this beautiful country before we came, and had no idea about the numerous ruins we would encounter from Roman History. The Ancient City of Ephesus and the history of Artemis absolutely fascinated us. As well as that enjoying the quaint charm of the people, the food and the culture Turkey has to offer. We have loved exploring the beautiful seaside town of Avaylik, full of cats and cobbled streets, its definitely worth a visit for the Bazaar area alone!! Overlanding all the way from UK through Europe to Turkey has been a very enriching and humbling experience so far.
    ⤈ WHO WE ARE ⤈
    We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. So after waiting for six months for the borders to reopen in Ireland we have finally hit the road in June 2021 and spent 90 days enjoying vanlife in Spain. Then we spent the next two months enjoying vanlife in Croatia before heading onto Serbia for a month and on towards Turkey where we currently are 

    The "orange" may be a bit bitter. I think those are what we call "turunç". It looks like an orange but tastes bitter, good for salads though to replace lemon.

    Another great video. Ephesus is wonderful, i was there with my brother. Ephesus is a famous biblical city. There is the epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul in the Bible ( new testament ). While you're there try the mercimek soup. I believe you will like it.

    10:45 In Turkey people drink lots of tea. But only black tea. I have never seen anybody drink apple tea . I don't know where did this apple tea thing come from . Weird

    • @phillyandkeely
      @phillyandkeely  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He said a local lady dried apples on her roof and then ground them down to make apple tea. I think more foreigners drink apple tea than Turkish people, I've only seen locals drink Turkish tea so far too.

    Anatolia as a peninsula was a crossroad between Europe and Asia throughout the history, so many civilizations have lived here (eg. Even some Celtic tribes settled here before the Romans arrived) and it was basically the heartland of the Greek and late Roman Empires so it's no surprise there are lots of ruins from the ancient times around here..
    Also it's shameful that guy turned out to be a pushy seller trying to get as much as he can from the foreigners. This is one of the least like-able part of our culture and although it's not that common compared to past (except the usual tourist trap places like Grand Bazaar), seeing those kind of people still embarrasses me. Sorry for the bad experience guys, but you probably know the current situation of Turkish lira so I think that doesn't help either and make those sellers a lot more desperate and pushy than they were used to be..

    • @phillyandkeely
      @phillyandkeely  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it definitely feels like the heartland of ancient civilisation empires, seeing so many here has made is realise how much has been lost in our own countries of any ancient civilization, we have castles, but they are nowhere near as old as this stuff!! I think in touristy parts of every country there are people who will take advantage of wealthy tourists, it's understandable, like you say especially with a struggling economy, just we aren't wealthy ones 🤣🤣🤣 thankyou so much for watching and for your informative comment 🥰🥰🥰
