i have such an issue with using expensive things. if i buy an investment piece like an ipad pro or camera, i won't touch it for months bc guilt/scared/expensive. I really gotta warm up to expensive things lol
cut the gouache tubes open and transfer the remains to a palette, especially one of those an air tight ones! I do that all the time when I reach the end of a tube/if there's a blockage at the opening.
If they are only semi dry just add a few drops of gum arabic or glycerin and a little bit of water to reactivate them. You'll need to be patient and add the water+gum arabic or water+glycerin mix drop by drop, and wait until it is soaked up, then add more. You can use a toothpick to mix the mixture into the paste. If the colours are really dry, do as Ul tra suggests. The dried colours sometimes get crumbly, but you can add gum arabic or glycerin and water to make them more manageable. I usually put them into little sealable jars and voilà - more expensive gouache saved. :D
A lot of old animation pencil tests are done in blue or red and I've always loved the look of it so I totally understand that coloured mechanical pencils are freakin' killer! The Hairspray roaches are og as hell man!

Just sand and then gesso and sand again. Smooth and beautiful and great to paint on! Also cheap which I love...Thanks for the vids!❤
Fluorescent pencils look way more opaque on black paper. I highly recommend it because colors that look a little weak on white paper look like WOAH on black paper
Zeke's Lunchbox I like Canson's XL black drawing pad. The paper is thick, almost like a mixed media paper, and it's not expensive (at least not in the US.) Pencil comes off of it pretty well too, even if they aren't supposed to be erasable.

Love the brand but my favorite of all time is still Charvin acrylics from France. I’m slowly building my collections too. I spend wayyyy to much on paint. Love your video as always. I love acrylics, and I'm glad to see them getting some love here! I'm curious what you thought of the tube of Jo Sonja you got...I'm attracted to opaque acrylics with more flow, but am also restricted in terms of budget. I heard Jo Sonja might be a good fit! Hey! Thank you! I like them and I think they're good for the price. My biggest issue is that they dry matte which isn't my fav. If you're doing more graphic work I think they're great, I find for more blended work they're a little hard to work with.
If your mechanical color lead pencils break easily, you can try using the papermate color lead mechanical pencils. I use them all the time, and I have a heavy hand most of the time. Lol But the only downside about them is the lack of lead you get in one lead holder. I had to buy a couple pack of leads to last me for a while.
Ughhh I have tried 5 different sketch book brands so far and the Handbook is also my favorite, it's weirdly magical! But it's so expensive! A full size portrait is 25$ where I live
Gesso, interesting, is that different to primer? I often prime my canvases with primer, but not Gesso as I havent reeeallly heard a lot about it. I'm just getting into Gouache myself and finding it very interesting to use! Those acrylics look amazing!!!!!

Anyway, I love your work and thanks so much for sharing your favourite products! I have just bought some W&N gouache and can't wait to get a chance to play with them!
Just a helpful tip about your dried up gouache. I can't remember which artist I remember saying this, but you can cut the tube off of the dried up gouache and put it into a palette, and you can reactivate it with water and use it that way. I think it might have been arleebean on TH-cam that gave that tip. Hope it helps!
Also if the gouache has dried up in the tube in like a chunk, I will cut the tube open and soak them in water and that will restart the paint back to tube consistency.
Oh, I love corny canvases! Man though... I used to get like paint cans worth of gesso from a local shop that no longer exists. :( Still have a small can of it, though! No idea if it's still good because it's like 10 years old. =>..
Definitely revisit gesso soon! Makes a big difference and stops the canvas from eating up too much paint. I've been meaning to give Holbein a try, since I've been seeing a few reviews for them too. Yep, I'm soooo pumped to do some life drawing out and about with my hand•book!! Can't wait!
I know this is a really old video but if you havent figured this out by now it could be really useful. You said it's a shame your guache dries in the tubes and now you cant use it but if you just se a knife or razor to cut that tube open you can put the dried pieces in your pallet and use them still. It would be such a shame to waste all that beautiful paint!

Haha that's so funny! I'm the same when I hear aussie accents on tv. I definitely admit I don't have a super thick accent! Have fun with the gouache!!
