    Forgot to mention, I won’t be uploading next Sunday (Australian time) because I didn’t get a chance before I went on holidays. I was pretty burnt out with everything and needed to recharge. I’ll be posting two videos in one week to make up for it. Thank you so much for joining my little space on the Internet. All your love means so much more than you can imagine. 💕💕💕

    I’ve been wanting to try painting a crystal cavern for months now. I watch Kayla lashae and she talks about them all the time but I’ve steered clear of it specifically because crystals and caverns and water elements, they all overwhelm me. This was inspiring to watch. I’m not the only one!!!

    You are so relatable! Your vlog about wasting your time on your dreams popped up in my suggested videos, and then this was the next on autoplay. Just two videos in and I can't wait to binge watch all of your other videos! I see so many artists and small business owners who portray this perfect life, and it's just not the case for most artists watching. It's easy to watch and want to give up because it seems like that is unobtainable. Your videos are such a perfect example of where I feel like I am with my career and business. I, just like you, just keep hoping that with time I will learn, grow, and succeed enough to make a comfortable living from what I love. P.S. Your landscape reminded me so much of Leigh Ellexson's art

    Im super late but I just found your channel a few days ago and I just want to say, all the creative issues you talked about in this video really speak to me. I’m an instrumentalist currently working on getting my performance degree and all those issues and insecurities you talk about: I really relate to that. I appreciate everything you said in this about being kind to yourself and your own personal progress. About practice. And I love learning about the visual art world! Just really enjoyed this video ❤️

    I've been in a creative rut since I finished my animation degree a few years ago and have been needing a kick to the butt to start doing work again.
    This series is a bloody great idea, might do some a study sesh alongside this series to knock myself out of the rut :D

    Making my way thru the archives and loved this study session. I'm with you on landscapes. I always found my particular landscape (Indiana, USA) uninspiring until I switched my mindset focus from the actual land to the question "what is the light doing?" then I started to find things worth looking at! Especially around mid morning and late afternoon, just before sunset. Painting the light seems more fun than painting the grass to me, if that makes sense.
    Great video, enjoyed it!

    Oooh i made a tattoo a few weeks ago based on one of those Richard Moss photos! That series is so freaking beautiful and I think you did a lovely job of rendering it impressionistically

    • @juliarichart
      @juliarichart  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow!! I'd love to see the tattoo! Thank you! Still trying to figure out my "style" when it comes to landscapes.

    • @peter_panarchy
      @peter_panarchy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally get it! I feel like my style translates pretty effectively in drawings/paintings of objects and people because the level of detail gives me a lot to work with, but when drawing landscapes (especially real ones) even the tiniest details are just the impression of something far off in the distance, so if you stylize it it doesn't look like itself anymore? if that makes sense? a very long way of saying the struggle is real! I just found your channel and you are freaking delightful and SO talented. I'm gonna tag you on my insta post of the tattoo since i can't post a link!

  • @rioreason

    If you’re looking for inspiring landscapes, check out infrared photography. You’ll LOVE it. The colors are incredible. Pink fluffy trees!

  • @mermtato
    @mermtato 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well this is a super relatable video!
    I struggle a lot too with comparing myself and my progression to other artists; but ultimately what you said about having needed to experience certain things to be sure of your new direction is so true. Though I'm sorry you struggle with this too, 'cause man it sucks so hard sometimes... but I'm glad you're able to logic your way through it :D
    Also, since landscapes aren't your cup of tea... what if you pure look for references based on the shapes? And then you reimagine them in your own colour pallette, and tweak the plantlife to make it look more alien? I feel like you might have a lot more fun that way...
    Anywaaaaaay, keep up the wonderful work!

    I did the same thing, I started art all over in my mid twenties. I kept stalling because of lots if different factors (art school prices, goals, portfolio, ect). I decided on my 26th bday (which just happened in October) that I want to be an artist (I'm finishing a boring scienfe degree right now). I want to soend the next 4 years really honing my skills. Luckily there's a big art gallery near me that does classes (even figure studies) for reasonable prices. I'm excited to get going on my art.

    • @juliarichart
      @juliarichart  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah! Good luck! I did a totally different degree and chose a different path, I know a lot of people who do that actually!

    • @persephoneblack888
      @persephoneblack888 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juliarichart Thank you! It seems the norm nowadays to do one degree but then end up in another field. I actually have an associate's of fine arts. I may finish that degree because I love art so much more than science. Then I have my science field to fall back on. Haha

    Hey Julia I love seeing your study process :) I know what you mean about under appreciating landscapes you’re familiar with. I come from New Zealand which is known to be one of the most beautiful places on earth but it took moving away from it for me to really see how special it is lol hope you’re loving living in Melbourne now! I love this city it’s one of favourites of all time. Lovely work by the way! :)

    • @juliarichart
      @juliarichart  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes exactly! New Zealand is so gorgeous but I totally know what you mean. When you see it everyday it's just not that special. Also, everything is that ugly burnt yellow colour, ewww! I'm loving Melbourne. It's so freaking cold but I'm one of those weirdos that gets energised by cold weather. Keeps me moving!

    • @essjaye1452
      @essjaye1452 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zeke's Lunchbox I kinda like the burnt yellow colour haha! Maybe because I’m not as used to it. Yeah Melbourne is fantastic even in the cold weather! Are you having any shows coming up soon? I would love to see more of your work and would love to stop by and say hi! :) I need to make more artist friends here

      I’m glad you’re going to get some Holbein Gouache...I see that you like pink...so make sure to pick up this color called “ Opera . “ I promise you’ll love this color...I’m not really into pink but this color is amazing that I have a new found love for it...have a great day...I can’t wait to see what you come up with next...also ( off topic). My favorite animal lives in your country, it’s a koala 🐨. Can you do me a huge favor... ? The next time you see a koala can you film it for me please ? I will be forever grateful ! Peace and Love 💜💜💜

    • @juliarichart

      Queen Nyoka great suggestions, thank you! You don’t often see koalas in the wild actually. I’ve only ever seen them in a zoo.

    Are those photos public domain? Its not cool to use someone's photos to paint and sell.... especially the Richard moss photos

    • @juliarichart
      @juliarichart  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Video isn't monetised and I don't sell the image or studies.. All images are sourced by social media sites like Instagram and Pinterest own part of the copyright. Artists interpretations aren't a copyright violation either.

    • @alexserra9605
      @alexserra9605 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zeke's Lunchbox you mentioned it was for a commissioned piece and that you needed to put the stairs in it that's why I was asking... I wasn't referring to TH-cam's rights I was referring to legal rights in general for using photographs by photographers in your paintings for sale there are a ton of websites with public domain photos for artists to use if you're interested I can share some of those.

    • @juliarichart
      @juliarichart  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex serra the staircase reference will be altered to a point where it will be unrecognisable to the original. So no copyright violation there either. The stair photo isn’t by Richard moss either.
