"Its been extremely well looked after" - Proceeds to place within a leaning tower of video games... You could work out how tall they are by measuring the width of the case and multiplying by how many you have. Much safer!
I wished kept all my Spectrum and C64 games (well, my parents threw them out!). Especially my Ultimate Play the Game games. The box art was always amazing.

Amazing collection. I had a Spectrum back in the day and quite a few of these, but there are loads I never knew existed. Now the oldest games I still own are some PS1 favourites. But I did work for Codemasters for five years, back when the 360/PS3 just came out, which was like a childhood dream!
I love seeing stuff like this simply because I was never exposed to this platform.... Really until rare replay came along. I love to see some gameplay of that last game that was hard to find from you, and more collection videos or something as well, that was a fun watch

I remember my dad showing me his own ZX Spectrum collection (nowhere near as big as this one ^^) before he sold them off quite a few years ago, so it was a nice nostalgia hit hearing some of these names again
Superb effort collecting all those, I bet that cost a fair few pounds to get them all. I noted there's a couple of extras which you might be interested in: Pro Boxing Simulator originally didn't credit By Fair Means or Foul when Codemasters first released it, the copy you have does. There's also the Super Sports Challenge - 5 game box. For Spectrum it has first issues of Slicks and Cue Boy (on C64 it had first issues of Cue Boy and 1st Division Manager) - this was a 1993 release so might be hard to locate.
When Codemasters first starting using those big cardboard boxes for their collections, they decided that the boxes felt a bit light with just the tapes inside and worried that customers wouldn't be willing to pay the higher price. So, they actually considered putting lead strips in the sides of the boxes to make them heavier, thereby giving customers the impression that they were better value and justified the higher price.
Congratulations Ian! What a fantastic collection :) I had a C64 back in the day and remember quite a few of these. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! So, what's next? Mastertronic? ;)
Nice! "Piling" them horizontally and lying next to them would have given you a good "height" comparison, but wouldn't have been as entertaining. I winced when they fell, I have hard floors (and piles of tapes) too. Did any of those nice shiny cases crack? :( I assume the gaps in numbers are releases in other formats? Rock Star Ate My Hamster was / is great, but I think I was too early on the scene (Christmas '83) to appreciate Codies / "cheapies" / re-release labels.
The best codemasters game I bought was from my local Sunday Market, Quattro fantastic, four brilliant games for the spectrum, fruit machine, pub trivia, monte Carlo casino and wacky darts, trouble now is what with the speccy emulators and being able to download every game ever made in one collection, it is difficult to know what game to play.
Even though I am perplexed why someone would want to collect games with truly awful graphics, story and controls, I admire your somewhat misplaced passion ;)
