People! If for some reason your brushes aren't working on the ear, check the face orientation. If it's red, its flipped. To flip it back up (blue) Edit mode --> A (select all) --> Mesh --> Normals (Alt N) --> Flip
For some reason this occured to me so wanted to share just in case it happens to anyone else :)
Great tutorial by the way! (even though I sacrificed my tears and sweat in it)

I have revisited the idea of sculpting and retopology for years now and always seem to get stuck in terms of knowledge and what sculpting techniques to use. This series is seriously the best for character sculpting, and I've watched dozens of series. I used to keep notes for single tricks I pick up between several series, but your series seriously has every single note I've written down condensed into it. I cannot thank you enough and appreciate you sharing your knowledge

Aww.... thank you! It took me a while and a bunch of tutorials to figure out what I do now. I'm not saying that I got it all figured out cause there is still a lot of things that I want to learn, but it helps to have a good strong foundation to start. Keep working at it and I'm happy that I was able to help you in your process.

Sometimes it's hard to follow some of what you are doing. It started around the sculpting for the eyes and nose. I feel like there are some parts that doesn't need repetitive move. There are also some parts that can easily be used like crease or maybe I'm still a beginner, that's why I can't understand why you did some of those move. I'm trying to follow, not exactly but just getting the feels of doing it. Thank you still, a big help for me as a beginner.

This is a great series. Wish I had something like this 5 years ago. I have been subscribed for a while but now I have notifications turned on to make sure I don't miss anything. Can you share your tablet settings? Some people like the "Emulate three button mouse" while I just use the pen and the shift or ctrl buttons for zooming and panning.

It's weird, I use emulate 3-button mouse, but I still reach down and use my mouse wheel for zooming while sculpting. But unless I'm in sculpt mode, I don't even use the tablet. I mostly have emulate 3 button on so I can double-click loops instead of alt+clicking

Who's using Blender 4.0 and are in the "I survived 'Mesh Modifier' and made it this far Club"?
    ~ raises hand.
Yep, I crashed it when we were on the hands last tutorial when I clicked "Mesh Modifier" (evil tool!).
I quit for the night...disgruntled. But I came back the next day and found fix. I was able to load it back up and go into sculpt mode with some lag and click "R" (not shift R or ctrl R) and reduce the voxels. Most set theirs to 0.005 or 0.008, I simple used the eyedropper and matched the mesh on the main body to hands and we were back in business.

My lips are very low poly compared to the rest of my sculpt of the face even when I remesh to 0.000100 which is the maximum that Shift +R allows me to do, am I doing something wrong or is there a way to fix this? Even with shade smooth they show some jagged and sharp geometry and smoothing destroys the form

Damn the eyes... when u think ur following bur ur not, when u think u understand but u cant do it when u keep trying and it still looks like crap after 5 hours. Damn i realized i have a creative block when it comes to "feeling" art but I cannot use tools without knowing what they do. Tried looking up the difference between tools and couldnt find any answers and i keep getting the "it depends on preference, there are no rules, do what u feel" well i feel like crap so i guess thats why the brush is crap.
Even after my ranting it's still the best video for sculpting i've found so far lol unfortuntely it's not as straight forward as something like weight painting when u have a set velocity or stretch limit you're after. If only you weren't using pressure so i could copy the strength value closer to minimize the range of failure due to my lack of skill.
Ahh i just wish i was better but if it wasnt for ur video i wouldnt even know where to start, so thanks bran, i'll finish ur tutorial evne if it kills me lol

After remeshing the head, only the clay strip tool entirely stops working :( is there any reason for this? It works on the other parts of the body, just not the head- and every other brush works on the head, too
Edit: If anyone else encounters this issue, apply all transforms in object mode with control+A, and then go into edit mode and select the whole head and press shift+N, and then in sculpt mode it works again.
Awesome tutorials by the way, it's really helping the work flow :)

0:49 I don't know what happened but my brush isn't smoothing the head like how you're able to do. I'm able to set the remesh resolution but it doesn't appear to change anything. When I try to smooth the mesh it seems to distort the mesh by a lot. What should I do?
Edit: Nevermind, the issue was that I didn't to ctrl+r after the shift+r. Ctlr+r seems to apply the remesh to the mesh

great job on your tutorial. I've been learning Blender for 2 months now and started your tutorial. May I ask how do you decide how lower the remesh number is? I know that the lower the number the higher the mesh, and also will add on the faces/vertices. Do you decide it based on the details that you will put on that part?

    • @BranSculpts

The ears are seemingly impossible to sculpt however, the front facing mesh option still doesn't prevent the sculpt from getting sucked in from the other side. I've tried using the mask as well, but then just nothing happens when I try to sculpt.
Does anyone have any tips regarding this? I've tried reblocking twice but they always end up this way.

Upon remeshing to the mesh size you're using in the video, it fixed that problem, but any new additions to the face became much more difficult to smooth out. Is this just a difference in brush strength or is there something I'm missing?

Heyy, I have a question - how is your sculpted face being mirrored when you didn’t put a mirror modifier on it? I went trough the two previous tutorials so many times but I still can’t figure it out! (btw when I try to put the mirror modifier on my model, it slows down my pc so much that I can’t do any stroke without having to wait for like 10 seconds, so is there a different solution?)
    Thank you!

there is the mirror on the top left of your interface in sculpt mode. it has the simble of the mirror modifier and the three axes.

  • @themalcontent100
    @themalcontent100 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

If you are having trouble with the mouth, mostly because there isn't enough material and your computer will blow up, there is an easy way to fix it.
Just make a new mesh. look up a mouth sculpting tutorial. make the mouth sepertely, and then model the head scupt around the mouth before you join it.
It took me four hours to figure that out. I was playing with the lips.
You could probably do the same thing with the nose.

hey so I have it set to front faces only, but when I use clay strips on the ears, there's a gross noisy mold that grows instead of the clay strips.
Also, how do I make the skin and lines less lumpy?
Also also, I noticed using ctrl + R to remesh is now just R but for some reason I can't get it to change how it looks or confirm the voxel size??

    • @Blueberry_Shortcake01
      @Blueberry_Shortcake01 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Is the mold only on one of the ear’s sides or both? What happens if you try to smooth it? Does it happen on any other part of the body?
After you finish sculpting the model in this series he teaches you how to retopo the model. After retopo all the skin and lines will be a lot smoother
I mainly just use the remesh menu in the top right. It lets you select the voxel size and a few other settings. You can also use the remesh modifier that lets you see how your model will look at different voxel sizes before confirming it

@@Blueberry_Shortcake01 I think my mesh just became too thin is all. I finished the ears using inflate and it seemed to work fine. smoothing it created holes somehow.
