  • Today on the podcast, we are chatting with the discoverer of annatto tocotrienols, Dr Barrie Tan.
    In today's episode, Dr Tan takes us on a deep dive into the science of annatto tocotrienols, from his discovery of annatto tocotrienols many years ago to the latest research on this innovative ingredient.
    Learn the many clinical applications of annatto based tocotrienols in the cardiology, metabolic health and oncology space.
    About Dr Barrie Tan
    Dr Barrie Tan, PhD earned his doctorate in chemistry (University of Otago, New Zealand; 1979), and became a professor of chemistry and food science/nutrition at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; 1982-1992.
    Dr Barrie Tan is hailed as a trailblazer and the world’s foremost expert on vitamin E, credited with discovering tocotrienol in three major natural sources: Palm, Rice and Annatto.
    His research expertise includes lipid-soluble nutrients (carotenoids, E vitamers, CoQ10, and omega-3s) that impact chronic conditions. He was the first to introduce tocotrienol’s benefits to the nutrition industry and developed the first-ever tocopherol-free tocotrienol product derived from annatto.

      The mainstream will ensure that such a man will die in obscurity. Meanwhile the "research" of Ansel Keys will continue to kill millions - promoting, as it does, transfats over animal fats. The proof, we live in a fallen world is all around us.

    I want to share this video with others but I don't know anybody in the whole world who would sit through it. It is so interesting but it's very high-level interesting, which blows most people away. Jesus said, "Seek and ye shall find." This is a "find" tailored to the seekers among us. You can't give this kind of thing, it has to be discovered... unfortunately.

    You did mention two other antioxidants, vitamin C and alpha lipoic acid which intrigued me.
    I live in the twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. We are indeed fortunate to have the annatto tree growing in our country. People are using it mainly for the color but I would try to extract the tocotrienols from it.

      Can I ask why you are taking coQ10, for your heart health? CoQ10 helps your heart?

    • @GizmoFromPizmo
      @GizmoFromPizmo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@714boba2003 - Yes indeed. There are studies that show how protective CoQ10 is for the heart.
      Our bodies make CoQ10 in the liver, in small amounts. Statins block the liver's production of CoQ10, which is why people on statins wind up having serious heart and muscle problems. They have low cholesterol, however. They trade high cholesterol for heart attacks. I guess that's a good trade...?
      I watched a Dr. Berg video last night on the importance of vitamin B3 (Niacin) and he showed some studies on how people with low levels of niacin in their systems have cardiovascular problems. I'm putting niacin on the shopping list from now on.

    • @karenf9137
      @karenf9137 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I am not a medical professional of any sort, but responding to your question because no one else has. I have been following Dr. Tan for a few years and to the best of my understanding most people get sufficient tocopherols via diet. Tocotrienols are a different issue. They are not widely available (for most people), so supplementation is the best option. Having said that, tocotrienols (Delta & Gamma) should be taken without tocopherols because tocopherols interfere with tocotrienols. Personally, I always look for tocotrienols that use the trademark Delta Gold version.
