Oprah is insane and she will regain the weight. She's engaged in many diets plans, and every single time, she regained her weight. This time isn't different. Give her 12-18 month and she will be pleasingly plump.
The people who are making critical comments are the same type of people who condemn those of us who struggle with weight. I am so glad to see Oprah looking so good. She never gave up she is and always has been my hero.
My son can't get his diabetic meds. The supply chain is choked because fat people want to lose weight. There's a difference between struggling with weight and actual life-saving drugs.
Sorry to hear that, luckily they are making a ton of new facilities to make this drug. I know this doesn't help his immediate problem but luckily in the future he won't have to deal with the supply chain chock.
I feel your pain. My son has been doing very well on a certain ADHD medication that works for him at a very low dose with no noticeable side effects.... so halfway thru 2023 there was a big Adderall shortage and doctors started prescribing the one my son takes now that one is on back order... I have to drive over 120 miles to a pharmacy that still has it it's very difficult 😢 I keep checking with my local pharmacies and they all say "ask your doctor to switch him to something else" but I don't want to do that😢 medication shortages are very difficult. I feel you!
I don’t feel ANY pity for Oprah. A billionaire who has access to the best chefs. Dietitians. Trainers. Psychologists, weight loss, medical professionals, etc. And like many people, she takes the easy route for weight loss using medication, instead of the responsible and healthy path of diet and physical activity. But who wouldn’t? The drug manufacturers need to step up the production and make these drugs more available while backing up the weight loss with medical studies supporting long term health using their drugs.
@UHNW, she wasn't asking for your pity. She is asking that people try to understand that there is a disease that compels people to eat in a self-destructive way and that weight loss drugs can help quiet that relentless drive. For so long, obesity has been viewed as a character flaw rather than a treatable disease. Imagine that you had an undiagnosed brain tumor that impacted your ability to control your anger. People keep telling you to get a grip & chill out. Your previously happy marriage and fantastic job are in jeopardy and you've tried meditation and counseling to no avail. Now imagine that the tumor was properly identified and that a drug can give you an opportunity to live a full, normal life. Should people say that you should have just sucked it up and fixed the problem yourself without drugs because you had a successful career and money? Or that you shouldn't alert others to this type of brain tumor and the availability of a treatment to quell your life-altering symptoms?
@@vhopine3776 You can’t compare a BRAIN TUMOR to a desire to overeating to the point that your health is affected. Not even in the same vein! One’s a choice. The other is an unfortunate medical malady that those who get brain tumors have zero control over. Whereas, loading up your hands with food and bringing them to one’s face in rapid procession over and over and over. Is a conscious CHOICE, NOT a disease.
these meds are dangerous. stop eating so much and live with it -you're not a model. she pushes stupid stuff like the secret. who is she anyhow-dont listen to her.
@@UHNWI777 You say it is a choice with such confidence that I must ask whether you have ever been obese? I had never weighed over 120 pounds until I developed polycystic ovarian syndrome. I gained 25 pounds in less than 5 months despite not changing my diet and continuing the same schedule of 4-6 hours of dance classes and performances weekly, two swim classes weekly and constantly taking 3 flights of stairs. The dramatic change in the way my body handled food was no more a choice than a brain tumor. The only "choice" I was left with to lose an ounce was to dramatically decrease my food intake to a point of living in a constant state of intense hunger. What started as a physical problem morphed into a mental issue and the food noise people cite as I became increasingly self-conscious about my weight gain. Access to a drug that would have compensated for the initial change in my biology would have been life altering.
United States seems to have an excuse for everything. I wish they've mentioned the side effects.with these drugs. These drugs were not meant to lose weight. But what do I know.
@laylalovely3076 You are just judgmental. So tired of people like you who don't know what health issues Oprah might have and she has been very open about her struggle with weight. BTW, Weight Watchers offers the use of weight loss drugs. Oprah sold her stocks in WW and DONATED that money! What GOOD do you do?
Remember how Oprah treated Lance Armstrong? I hope he gives her a call and shows growth by being humble yet direct and says something like, "well Oprah it's just as easy as it was for you to use a performance enhancer than lie about it".
This is so unfair. It is not a performance enhancer. It was a medication and of course you would be private about it until you were sure it worked. it’s a medication just as much as a medication for depression, a medication for cancer or a medication for your blood pressure.
Ive always been puzzled how people can't see through Oprah. She is so fake and this just highlights how she has been conning the world for decades. She isnt taking responsibilty for lying to the public instead she is playing the victim! Typical narcissistic behavior!!

Actually some GLP1 are approved for obesity. Plus the #1 cause of DM is obesity; obesity also increases risk of heart disease; hypertension; COPD and cancer; so maybe preventing early death and morbidity is not all about vanity. Maybe instead of shaming obese people for using them; we should protest the money the pharmaceutical companies are raking in by limiting production and driving up prices and insurance companies for not making GLP1 drugs more accessible.
Obesity is a huge problem why should they feel guilty about paying their own money for medicine that is helping them? Plus before this drug what was diabetic ppl using?
@mpalmer7800 Because it's taking it away from those who have a chronic illness that they can't do anything about! When all overweight people have to do is control their eating habits and exercise,I know it's not easy I to am overweight and have struggled with it for years, because of my lack of self control.Overeating is a disorder caused by mental trauma, stop looking for a quick fix for everything and just do the work, taking drugs meant for diabetics just so you can look good and feel good is selfish and vain,I've lost weight and also gained it back and now in the process of losing it again and if they ever get off of those drugs they'll gain it right back and it's because they are mentally battling whatever trauma caused them to overeat in the first place those drugs are only putting a band-aid on their issues temporarily and not getting to the root of the problem that they will still have until they face it head on,those drugs only suppress your appetite but for a diabetic it's a life and death situation that can't be cured and now because of vanity they can't hardly find it because of people who don't have diabetes using it,instead of eating healthy food and exercising.
Take a walk. Everybody is different. It doesn’t have to be about vanity. I went through my changes early and I gained 25 pounds. All the while I was working out, and nothing I did would take the weight off. Then I had two strokes in one day. After that I gained another 15 pounds. I’m lucky to be alive in the first place. When I was able to work out again I dropped maybe 18 pounds but I hit a wall. Then of course my blood work came back that I was prediabetic with an A1c of 6.0, with an under active thyroid. Of course my insurance wouldn’t cover any type of medication after all they wanted me to be a full blown diabetic as was the case with my real grandmother who died at 64 and my mother who’s still alive at 78. So I made the decision to pay out of pocket for Mounjaro. It is the best thing I have done. My blood work is looking great, and I lost 14 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks.
As someone who has been both slender with minimal, mindful effort and morbidly obese, I have mixed feelings about the show. It was interesting that Dr. Jen mentioned obesity not being a character flaw. I have repeatedly tried to convince people of that fact, only to hear the tired, unhelpful "calories in, calories out, just eat less and exercise more" chant from those who simply don't understand what's now coined food noise. Clearly, there is a disconnect for some of us that others don't experience. I understand in that it is difficult for me to fully understand alcoholism since I'm content with a single adult beverage every month or two. I took phen-fen years ago and recall how weird it felt to be satisfied with a small meal and not have a desire to eat again for hours. The effect faded within a few days so it wasn't worth the health risks for me. With the newer weight loss drugs, I understand when patients say the meds quiet the intense compulsion to eat. I was happy for the people who found weight loss drugs helped them escape the prison of obesity. However, I was disappointed that Oprah didn't push back more on doctors being consultants for drug companies. The explanation was rehearsed and inadequate making it sound like the doctors were strictly noble warriors with no financial incentive. I was also displeased by the dismissal of side effects as very rare. I know that people are often more likely to share negative experiences, but I've watched numerous influencers who tried WL drugs and had issues. I'm not confident that the research studies with carefully pre-screened participants are fully reflective of what happens with a large population of patients. The experts (who, again, have a financial interest) made it sound like education is an effective response to every side effect. That won't, however, fix say, the projecttile vomiting or uncontrollable diarrhea some have experienced. The great news is that Oprah's name recognition and lengthy battle with her own weight will help the show reach a wide audience and provoke discussion. Hopefully, some people will revise their thinking about the nature of obesity to see it as a disease and that many will enjoy dramatically improved health with the help of the drugs. On the negative side, I'm concerned that the publicity may whip up additional demand for meds that diabetics are already having trouble finding. Further, will those who can't take the medications find themselves further stigmatized because they remain heavy as those around them shrink? And how can we ensure that those who most need the drugs will get them vs. someone wanting to go from a size 6 to a size 0 or 2?
I have a similar issue. I use to not have to put in any conscious effort. I was just mindful. What would you say changed from when you were slender with minimal, mindful effort?

@@NamaGVida What changed for me was developing polycystic ovarian syndrome. I admit that I had previously been in the "eat a little less, get a bit more exercise" camp so it was humbling.
@@NamaGVida I didn't see my initial reply appear so this may be a duplicate. What changed for me that started my challenge with obesity was polycystic ovarian syndrome that caused rapid weight gain despite an exceptionally active lifestyle and no change in diet. As the pounds piled on, I became self conscious about being Ina swimsuit or dance leotard and the food noise that others have mentioned began emerging where my rational mind knew my choices weren't healthy, but I wouldn't feel satisfied without a larger quantity of food. There were intense cravings for high-carb foods, particularly when I was stressed or in pain. What ultimately helped me lose 100 pounds was metformin, menopause to quell the PCOS and getting a new job surrounded by people who didn't care how much I weighed. Now my spine is collapsing from. congenital scoliosis and stenosis and herniated discs leave me unable to stand or walk for more than 5 minutes. My shoulder joints were malformed and the arthritis is so bad that they light up at airport security so I can no longer swim laps. I've managed to keep my weight stable so far, but the prospect of regaining it as my mobility deteriorates even more is daunting. I hope that you can find an effective way to deal with your weight!
Every drug has side effects and, in dealing with chronic conditions, may have to be taken for a lifetime. My former boyfriend, a very slender man, developed Type II diabetes from being exposed to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. During our time together, he had a number of scary low blood sugar incidents. Still, the benefits of the drug outweighed the risks of a drug he had to take for the rest of his life. What is very disconcerting is when people who aren't overweight take the drugs to be even thinner. They not only disrupted the supply chain for diabetics and those whose health is in jeopardy from bring overweight, but not diabetic, but they exposed themselves to a significant risk solely for vanity. I understand to some extent. I've always had resting b***h face and as severe spinal issues have greatly restricted my mobility, my face seems to be melting downward despite keeping my weight stable. (Ironically, some report a similar effect from Ozempic, but I've not taken the drug.) If I had the money, I would probably risk a facelift because I hate looking like an angry shrew and having to constantly remind myself to smile every minute I'm with other humans so that I don't look grouchy and intimidating.

Being overweight is seriously bad for your health it’s not about “ fat shaming”. If people want access to a drug that so far has more benefits than side-effects that helps them lose weight when they have had trouble losing it in any other way, please let them have it.
Any medication can have side effects. I’m on mounjaro and have had little to no side effects. Probably because I’m taking it for the reason it was designed for. The people who suffer from ill side effects are the people who don’t need the medicinal treatment it was actually designed fir. They’re taking it strictly for the weight loss which is actually just a side effect of the drug. It’s not actually designed for weight loss. Do the research before critiquing people. There’s a large sector of the population with disorders that perpetuate obesity and these medications can actually cure and or normalize them. Of course there will always be people who may not need it and just want to lose a few pounds, but that’s on them.
I was diagnosed with genetic insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Struggled with up and down weight since I turned 30. Cravings for carbs or sugar and if I gave in just a little my weight and cravings would skyrocket. Now that I’m on medication that prompts my stomach to create the hormones needed to digest foodstuffs appropriately I’m finally able to stay at a balanced weight. Cravings are normal. I have been keto since 2016, before it was a household name, yet maintaining a healthier stable weight was always a struggle especially as I got older. My doctor recently recommended mounjaro saying that genetic insulin resistance is likely the culprit and reason for my decades long struggle with food and weight. My father os type 2 diabetic and his father died from type 2 diabetes and kidney failure. They both likely have genetic insulin resistance which led to diabetes but the science didn’t exist back then to help them eat and digest food properly. It’s the worst feeling in the world to try to eat well, constantly restricting your food, never being able to eat like a normal person yet still struggle with your weight and subsequently your health. I do still eat a modified low/no sugar, high protein modified keto diet. I can also occasionally have something sweet without falling prey to out of control cravings. I finally feel normal again. I wish people had a better understanding and empathy for people who struggle with food and/or their weight, oftentimes it’s not within your control and your body needs help to control cravings, digest and breakdown foods the way it’s designed to.
@@ArnitaBranchactually it can go away. It’s just insulin resistance. If your blood glucose drops and stays stable you are no longer insulin resistant 😊

Actually outside of the US, these and other first generation drugs of this class were used for weight loss over 10 years ago. Bypass surgery was very rare outside of the US but they always included diet and exercise as you gain weight, you are at risk of insulin resistance and insulin resistance makes it hard as hell to lose weight. Insulin resistance is a precursor to diabetes which can take decades to develop. And folks need to stop acting like having diabetes type 2, which is highly related to obesity is somehow a more noble than the condition that causes it! The hype is targeting one single drug when there are several others that work just as well are on the market but not paying for celebrity endorsements and are not for use by folks that just need to lose 10 pounds for an event. FYI, the more you stop and start, even these drugs lose effectiveness IMHO. You have to keep using it to maintain the wight loss. The average weight loss they were originally used for was around 30+ pounds and medical conditions due to obesity like Hypertension and even Polycystic ovarian syndrome and the associated weight. And the reality is that some folks will not have obesity related issues until they pass 100lbs, others will experience them at 30 pounds. Prevention is better than the clean up.

Well said. She is trying to justify it to herself and the public why this is a good thing. It’s not. She should have stuck with doing Weight Watchers and eating a healthy diet. But no, like so many celebrities she wants the easy way out.
I strongly believe all of these people claiming they were always hungry and couldn't stop eating were actually parched. Drinking water throughout the day and before meals helps not to eat more than you should. IF is also great. Only eat balanced meals from 10am-6pm (cheat days 10am-7pm), exercise by walking, hiking, lifting weights (heavy) will help you drop the weight. Meds are not necessary people. You can do it. Trust me.
My 11 year-old nephew was overweight. His parents helped him by teaching him how to count calories. Taught him the effects of being overweight on our health. He always read food labels. He knows how to control his sugar intake and he exercise by climbing the stairs.
Yeah also what are they eating? They need to eat balanced meals that aren’t processed. Drinking herbal tea with no sugar is great in between meals. Obviously a true health problem that causes weight gain is different.

One thing I didn't like about this was that it's implying that in order to avoid bullying and shaming, people should take these drugs. I was bullied for being overweight when I was younger and when I look back, I see how lovely I was and not even overweight! It's like the media bullying Kate Winslet when she was a young girl just because she wasn't a size zero. Unfortunately celebrities get caught up in it - I wish we would focus on fitness instead of "fatness" - health and nutrition instead of calories! When we start exercising we may not lose a lot of weight but we do have so many other health benefits that it's crazy to think these drugs are a substitute.
Oprah Winfrey should learn to eat less and get some exercise pushing herself away from the table, instead of preventing people who truly need these meds from getting them!
Her concluding comments at the end sum up how we should be concerning ALL peoples' beliefs too, not just the popular/promoted ones that want to push cancel-culture to all. Amazing how O can say that when it's a topic dear to her.
I watched the episode. It's one thing to talk about the struggle of certain quantities of food not being enough, making it a disease. But the main issue that was never covered was WHAT FOOD the people were actually eating. The obesity epidemic didn't evolve from people suddenly eating mass tons of too many fresh apples and peanut butter because they're still hungry. It's from the processed crap that is so easily accessible that gets purchased left and right out of convenience.
Exactly. Don’t fat shame anybody but it seems like she’s really just shaming herself and her natural weight. there’s unhealthy weight and then there’s a healthy weight at a natural size that suits you, and she just never accepted her natural weight and always fought it. Instead of telling the world to accept you, how about she start by accepting herself. If we’re all beautiful in all shapes and sizes, then why promote weight loss drug that unnaturally makes you Slim because you’re not hungry and have diarrhea etc. Maybe the whole lesson is in accepting yourself, your natural weight or learning better dietary and nutritional needs for yourself and exercise. Everybody wants a quick fix and then to tell everybody else to stop shaming them for that quick fix. 🤷🏼♀️

Promoting weight watchers to society, then selling your shares (because it is BS and doesn't work) and now advising strangers to take medication with serious side effects, just because you got called out on doing it? SERIOUSLY? 3. HAWAII 4. Denial of Harvey Weinstein's behaviour 5. Never truly apologising for anything 6. She did a 10 hour special podcast with Eckhart Tolle about the Ego and she said it was the ONE book everyone should read, she called him a "prophet" and now she is back to her old egoic self that only cares about money and being skinny 7. Oprah, you always body shamed everyone (re-watch the cringe interview with the Olsen twins)
Sadly, people are dying from using these drugs. I've done quite a lot of research on diabetes and underlying research shows that what changes our insulin response is exercise - very little improvement is to do with change to diet or weight loss. The amount of exercise recommended in the UK is far too little to have the impact needed to change someone's insulin response - but when we do increase insulin sensitivity and our ability to manage blood sugar, it also really helps us in not needed to snack to maintain a healthy blood sugar. This is so important when we are pre-diabetic or heading in that direction, because it becomes increasingly difficult to exercise the less able we are to manage our blood sugar. In the UK we have a lot of foods that are not helpful, but in the US, processed foods are just much more damaging - from high fructose corn syrup to powdered sugar on doughnuts. We also need to exercise to keep our bodies healthy - our hearts particularly. Exercise is about so much more than weight loss.
Yes. I was emotional eating due to grief and put on so much weight that I am now prediabetic and actually qualify for this drug but I don’t want it because I don’t want to continue the lifestyle choices that are causing this in the first place. I don’t want to eat the food that is unhealthy for me regardless if the drug can counter the effects. I’ve chosen to do a no sugar, low carb, mostly vegetables and proteins lifestyle and get the exercise I need, as well as the fresh air and sunlight that I’ve been missing due to the depression. It’s super hard to make this massive change because of my mental health but it’s also exactly the reason why I have to make this change and not use a drug to solve the problem when the underlying reason is so much bigger than just being overweight and prediabetic. And I’m so excited to be taking this level of power and control over my mental health and physical state that I am actually excited every day when I make ANY level of progress like today !
Wow that's amazing! I totally feel what you are saying because my "slide down" was because of migraine - and now that I am exercising so much the migraines are so much better (although I just had a bad one because I'm fighting a cold and haven't been able to exercise so much!) I am missing all the endorphins of exercise but I feel like I am getting my life back and I'm really appreciative that this is the exception now and not how I feel most of the time. I've also suffered from depression and I was exercising, getting outside and doing therapy for ages before it finally helped - but although it feels slow it is massive work and I'm so glad I was able to get out of depression without resorting to pharmaceuticals (although I was close several times!!)@@MalissiaCreates
@@PearlEscapes congrats to you! 😃👏🏼 🎉 I used to get severe migraines after a car accident when I was a teenager so I understand, anything that can help make that better and alleviate the pain is awesome! and of course feeling good every day and a healthy body 😊 hope you get over your cold soon and good luck to all your success 🙏🏼🌷 🌟
My only concern is they only spoke to one person who had adverse side effects. They did not reinforce what you must say on these meds for life, they did not address how these drug companies are making a fortune. There are many more poor people who need these meds but can't afford them. Like the opioid meds that were touted as a miracle and turned out a nightmare for many, but made the drug companies billions.
I agree that the presentation should have been far more balanced. I do think that obesity is a disease and I say that as someone who lost 100 pounds without drugs or surgery and has kept it off for several years. I have severe congenital scoliosis, severe spinal stenosis, neuropathy from cancer treatment, osteoarthritis from congenital shoulder dysplasia and have battled Fibromyalgia for 35 years. As my pain increases and my mobility decreases, the food noise is getting worse. I've kept my weight stable, but any loss stalled and I can understand the appeal of a drug that can quiet the intense cravings for unhealthy foods. It's daunting.
I have dropped 3 dress sizes and kept it off for years now. No surgery or meds. Eat less, move more! Simple. Sometimes u may feel uncomfortable when craving food, but learn to resist. I did it - u can do. (Don't make excuses)
I don’t think enough is known about all of these drugs, and the lasting effect it’s going to have on weight loss for a lot of these people. So you gotta feel sick have nausea and diarrhea to lose weight give me a break.
not necessarily, its depends. Its supposed to change your eating habits so if your on it for 18 months and your lifestyle has changed and you maintain you don't overdo it again then most people don't regain the weight or the weight gain is minimal.
I'm sure in 18 months of taking it, there are so many adverse side effects that people have to stop taking it and gain their weight back. I've seen it.
The specialist on Oparh special said "You have to take it the rest of your life or the Disease comes back" Which they said was the weight? That is what they call a disease
If something is too good to be true, it usually is! There are no studies on the Long term impact to hormonal / liver/ pancreas health ….perhaps 10 years from now there will be a lot of regret as it will have caused another set of problems. !
It’s not a “weight problem “…… but rather a lack of self control with what you put in your mouth…. & how often you do it. Take back your self control….. it will serve you well in ALL aspects of life.
So what...past medication working on totally different mechanism wasn't good...will you ditch cars forever because the original Ford sucked, was slow, not eco-friendly and broke apart every so often? No airbags either, no crashtests?😅
I have struggled with weight all my life, finally found something that works, it's called fasting (ADF, look it up) and luckily was able to drop 75lbs. The Panny D happened, gyms were closed, zoom happy hours happened, boredom hit so obviously gained some back. I'm back to fasting and going to the gym and pounds are slowly melting off. This is my own personal walk though. Does the magic of this jab sound appealing for someone who's struggled with weight all their life? HELL YES. I HATE big pharma, HATE HATE. So F if I am going to give them my money. I do understand why people would do this, as some people are literally addicted to food or even dealing with substance abuse. I have a family member who was secretly struggling with alcohol and this jab turned her life around. I wouldn't judge people. It's great that this helps diabetics, obese, and addicts . Did you all have this same outrage when that little blue pill that was supposed to treat cardio problems was rebranded as an ED pill? Sit down people and talk less, listen and try to understand more.
Thank you. Many causes for obesity and for some; diet and exercise won’t do it on their own although they will be an integral part of keeping the weight off with the help of GLP1.
I will just eat healthy and try to lose weight the old fashioned way. The girl saying she can eat 4 plates per meal...that's definitely why she lost weight and gained it all back. I hope she is learning about how to improve her eating habits. She might have been dealing with emotional eating. At some point she will have to stop using the medication, right?
And they showed her eating pizza smh. That's not healthy at all. This is the type of food that put people in that position. There should be a rehab for junk food addiction.
Also I wish someone would develop a solution for those of us who GENETICALLY seem to be low on the satiety hormone leptin (and that can be part of the reason obesity can seem to run in families, in addition to generational food choices - breads, cakes, cookies, candies, and other REFINED carbs - that lead to more overeating). It is NOT a joke when I say that it takes a Thanksgiving-sized meal for me to honestly say "I can't eat another bite." On the trimmer side of my family, though, those cousins have a couple of bites of ANY food (healthy or not) and quietly put their forks down and say, "Oh, I'm SO full. I can't even look at the dessert tray" and they're telling the truth. The only way this 75yo who has battled her weight for decades can get any relief from food addiction is to go mostly carnivore ("carnivore-ish") ... eating a diet that is mostly meat and eggs has calmed my desire for food SO MUCH although the weight is not dropping off me like much-younger women who have tried this program. (Search YT for Dr. Ken Berry's medical approach to this "weird" way of eating, and for Kelly Hogan who's been carnivore for over a dozen years, losing well over 100lbs and healing so many issues that had come with her 260lb weight.)
These meds did not work for me. I have an eating disorder called binge eating disorder and even at the highest dose of these meds, it didn’t work. I did not loose a pound. The side effects were sometimes awful, I said sometimes because sometimes I had mild symptoms and other times I was have extreme nausea and feel miserable for days, and I would typically only have a bowel movement once every 7-8 days. I’d start to feel scared when I had not had a bowel movement for 8 days- even with taking Miralax and colace but it usually came by the 8th day. I am very happy for people who are having success with them. I do have concern for others who have undiagnosed or diagnosed eating disorders who don’t get treatment and just use these meds. I wish everyone the best of luck with their health, and that you find the peace you deserve with yourself and your body regardless of your size. I very much appreciate and wish to echo Oprah’s message to “Stop the shame and blame!” Please stop body shaming and food shaming others. Don’t comment on peoples weight, size or what they eat. I assure you it will not help anyone and it is very hurtful. It is shaming them and shame leads to more harm like binge eating.
There’s a lot more that plays into weight gain than excess calories. I was always very fit and firm and slender. As an avid runner, I could eat and grays all day long and not gain weight. But as soon as I went through a huge trauma in my life, and wasn’t able to run or exercise the amount that I used to, I started fasting. At least one 24 -36 hour fast per week. Followed by daily 17 to 20 hour fasts. And eating clean. But instead of losing weight, I was gaining weight. Cortisol, stress, trauma, lack of sleep, different hormones, fluctuating at different times of the month all play a huge part in your weight. If your body doesn’t have a way to dump that cortisol, the extra estrogen, the toxins, and all the stress hormones in your body… It will hold onto weight no matter what kind of diet air feeding it.
Actually people back in the day didn't count calories as much as we do now. They ate REAL food and had more active lifestyles. Just say no to over processed Frankenfoods and sugar laden garbage which is getting people addicted. Someone is always trying to make a buck off of the little people....including Big Pharma!
Did you even watch the show? One of the main points is that for some people, there is a relentless compulsion to eat badly and obsess over food, even knowing it's self-destructive. The drugs quiet that "food noise." I'm fine enjoying a single adult beverage every month or two. Yet some people battle a horrific compulsion to drink alcohol. Me saying "Nothing new here. Just don't drink" is dismissive of the challenge they face. Interesting, some taking these weight loss drugs note that not only do they lose the drive to overeat, they also notice a change in other compulsive behaviors.
@@HH-gv8mxwell fasting was your problem..it raises your cortisol which can mess with your hormones. 14-16 hour fasts 2-3 times a week are fine. Anything more than that is probably not good since your body thinks it’s starving
I am so glad to hear some positive news about health in America. This is so encouraging. I pray the medical field releases ALL health medication that HEALS people . We NEED it. Thank you for doing this.
Even playing field, sense of hope, and no longer blaming yourself. This all reminds me of when I got diagnosed with adhd and got on medication. Life changing
I'm on Ozempic for type 2 diabetes. I get angry when I cannot refill my RX because of people who use it for weight loss. For the record it does diminish your appetite but I never had one anyway... You want to lose weight on it you still have to do the work! Diet, fitness and determination.
The fact is that Oprah has access to a different level of care her weight loss issues than we do. She could've taken care of it long ago if that's where she truly put her time, body, and mind.
What study have they done on the lasting effects of taking such drugs...this is a scary trend...healthy food and active lifestyle is the only option for a healthy body
I've been on the yo yo wagon for 33 years. It is true, the older you get the harder it is to come off. I would encourage everyone under my age of 55 to start now and stick with it. I'm struggling to the point of stressing myself out. It's definitely the mindset and I'm losing.
The people who you say need it, diabetics, should get their diets straight as well and they can reverse it. There isn't one class I'd people who deserve it over the other.
People’s lives are improving. This is socially significant to the individual’s overall life. People should do what is best for them but they have to have awareness of the consequences. Do the consequences outweigh the positives?
Good for them, but I'm afraid that this sudden weight loss could come with huge ramifications in the long run. I would do it the hard way. I don't think it's worth it. But, again, Americans Love quick fixes.
@pic376, if someone with anorexia could take a drug that would prevent them from starving themselves to death, would they be using a quick fix? My bulimic friend went from 135 to 75 pounds and was in danger of losing all her teeth. If a medication stopped her compulsion to vomit, would she be taking the easy way out? Most recognize those eating disorders as diseases, yet see obesity as being unable to make the hard choices, not being disciplined, refusing to do the work. For some reason, only compulsive overeating is viewed as a character flaw. I'm not talking about someone using the drugs to Ho from a size 6-8nto a 0-2. I'm talking about people who face serious health consequences from excess weight and have tried time after time to lose it.
@@vhopine3776 I understand what you are saying. My point is that a sudden weight loss can have serious repercussion to ones body. Why? Because when the body has been used to all the weight and, then, there's this sudden weight loss, it's a shock to the body. Hence, it will affect all the organs, as opposed to the person gradually losing the weight. After all, the person did not gain the weight overnight. The weight gain was gradual. That's my point. And its logical.
Are any of these folks examined by physicians before taking these drugs? Are their diets examined? Were they fed fast food as children? Were they ever fed fresh vegetables and fruit? Curious since Asia and Europe don't seem to have the issue but their food is mostly organic and not filled with corn syrup. Were they allowed to play outside all day as we 50s 60s kids were? What's the family's lifestyle? Are meals fresh and homemade or prepackaged? So many things to consider and study
I am on mounjaro and have lost 50 pounds very quickly. I decided to due to having severe spinal injuries and other chronic disease. Weightless efforts had stalled due to aging and thyroid disease and I have zero shame. It is going to require my utmost effort to maintain this weightloss but it sure was a game changer.
My daughter was full grown in the 5th grade. She had an extra 10-15lbs . She got tourgured , bullied and brought to tears every day! In 7 th grade she developed an eating disorder, she’s 5’2”, her weight was 95lbs. She was 3lbs away from being hospitalized as per the doctor. She overcame it for 2 years. Then her Dr put her on depression medication along with an enhancement ABILIFY, she gained 60lbs in 4 weeks! She quit all her medication cold turkey. Today at 24 years old she has been a normal weight for 3 years. Her quote’ If I’m hungry I’m going to eat. Period’. We are so proud of her for letting go of what society says she should weigh ❤
Appreciate all of Oprah Winfrey and her guest sharing the many levels through weight and challenges to find solutions through blame and shaming. Oprah Winfrey and her guest made a magnificent beautiful self success. ❤
Some people are just genetically inclined to carry more fat. For example, if you follow them for a year and they eat the exact same thing as a lean person, they may still be overweight and the lean person will still be lean, yet, they both ate the same exact foods/drinks. All those meds cannot be healthy. It’s probably better to be heavy opposed to taking those medications.
We live in a society where drugs are taken for everything . There is a place for medication, but it is overused and often used by people who have no need of it …fine if you need meds, but not so fine for everyone. The long term side effects aren’t taken into consideration and this should be part of the decision
LOL! When she did her wagon of fat episode way back in the '80's me and my university room mates watched with a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies :)
These drugs should only be prescribed by an expert in these drugs. They need to closely monitor the user and it should be built up slowly to avoid damage from side effects. It is not for everybody. I’m so happy for Oprah and all the people who struggled for so long, to finally have found these drugs. I am all for it. Yeah!!! I hope the drug companies sort out the side effects and I hope these drugs stay and that production increases for the sake of the diabetics. I am all for it. Yeah!!! All drugs have side effects and the prescribers should make that clear to patients. I don’t understand this idea that everything has to be a lifelong struggle and suffering through the 12 steps. Why? Why can’t weight loss be made easy by a medicine. There is even a tablet for alcoholism! It doesn’t need to be a struggle for so many people. The old way of weight loss is not doable for many people. Millions of heart attacks, strokes, disabilities and type 2 diabetes and its complications further and we still haven’t learned.
@dreamofskye Many good points. Why object to drugs for obesity? Because you can then feel superior to all those overweight people while not truly understanding the battle they fight on a daily basis. I took phen-fen years ago and was amazed at how I could eat a modest meal and not even think about food again until real stomach hunger made me eat again hours later. Unfortunately, that feeling faded within a few days so there wasn't a significant benefit to outweigh the drugs' risks. It did highlight for me the dramatic mental difference between a normal person making healthy food choices vs. the constant chatter of food noise for those with the disease of obesity. Am I simply making excuses? I lost 100 pounds in my 50s and have kept it off for years so that's a no. Unlike most women who gain weight at menopause, lessening the intense cravings from the polycystic ovarian syndrome that caused my initial weight gain helped as did adding metfotmin and leaving a toxic work environment. I'm now dealing with extremely painful inoperable, progressive spinal issues on top of severe arthritis in multiple joints and 30+ years of Fibromyalgia. The food noise is becoming very strong again since high-carb foods kick back the pain for me. The digestive issues and long-term side effects have kept me from trying a GLP-1 drug thus far, but I totally understand their appeal and don't condemn people with a real weight problem from taking them. Using them to go from a size 8 to a size 0 or 2 while diabetics and morbidly obese people can't get the drugs? That's immoral.
Why is it anyone’s business if Oprah includes a weight loss med in addition to diet and exercise program. Obesity is a disease. The only issue I have is,that these drugs have side effects that a person needs to understand. Addressing mental and physical health issues holistically is important. Using more than one approach is a good idea. So take or do not take my of these meds it’s a personal choice.
Let's be real. We are weak when we can't lose the weight we should lose. We always have an excuse. Drugs for this problem aren't and will never be a good answer.
Bc Oprah says so it is suddenly ok? The cult culture is real. Talking about shame ONLY after losing weight is quite hypocritical.
Oprah is insane and she will regain the weight. She's engaged in many diets plans, and every single time, she regained her weight. This time isn't different. Give her 12-18 month and she will be pleasingly plump.
She is the Supreme huckster😂
The people who are making critical comments are the same type of people who condemn those of us who struggle with weight. I am so glad to see Oprah looking so good. She never gave up she is and always has been my hero.
She’s been taking about it for decades!
Who cares what she has to say , she lies whenever it suits her .
Aw, sorry you all have to go through this. I hope this changes soon❤
That ought to be a crime.
I feel you!
They never said anything about the supply chain diabetic patients come first in line weight loss people have to wait stop your lying
Obvious it’s her genetics that cause her to have weight problems. Money doesn’t solve everything.
Right. Viagra wasn't meant for erections, yet here we are.
Aspirin wasn’t meant to be a blood thinner, but here we are now
What do you know? 🙄
She’s just trying to justify using the drug, even though people who need it can’t get it. She’s a hypocrite.
Hear! Hear!
Ive always been puzzled how people can't see through Oprah. She is so fake and this just highlights how she has been conning the world for decades. She isnt taking responsibilty for lying to the public instead she is playing the victim! Typical narcissistic behavior!!

Down the road as more serious side effects show up, can people sue Oprah for offering medical advise without a license ?
talk about the shame by capitalizing of diabetes medication that diabetics can't get because of someone's vanity
Also, obesity is often linked with diabetes

What about the side effects as well as the repercussions if one stops taking the meds?
Stop blood pressure meds and see...

The medicine has SERIOUS side effects. Stop the fat shaming.
Zepbound has the same ingredient as Mounjaro and has been released specifically for treating obesity
I didn't have any side effects. Too many people shaming the meds and have no idea what they're talking about. EVERYONE is different
@jaeshasway same here! All good
I was diagnosed with genetic insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.
I am happy that I found Mounjaro. I started July 2023 and I’ve lost 62 pounds. No longer type two diabetic and getting healthy

Most insurance don’t offer it.

Trust me.
I think you may be right. I'm going to try it.
And don’t forget portion control and what you are eating.
My 11 year-old nephew was overweight. His parents helped him by teaching him how to count calories. Taught him the effects of being overweight on our health. He always read food labels. He knows how to control his sugar intake and he exercise by climbing the stairs.
wow
Yeah also what are they eating? They need to eat balanced meals that aren’t processed. Drinking herbal tea with no sugar is great in between meals. Obviously a true health problem that causes weight gain is different.

I send my best of luck to you and your precious father. It’s horrific if when you’re trying to deal with a loved one.😢

I used to get severe migraines after a car accident when I was a teenager so I understand, anything that can help make that better and alleviate the pain is awesome! and of course feeling good every day and a healthy body 😊 hope you get over your cold soon and good luck to all your success 🙏🏼🌷 🌟
Thank you so much and good luck to you!! You got this!@@MalissiaCreates
Illegal promotion of off-label drugs!
Not off-label, they are approved and distributed for weight loss
Oprah should be accountable
I have dropped 3 dress sizes and kept it off for years now. No surgery or meds. Eat less, move more! Simple. Sometimes u may feel uncomfortable when craving food, but learn to resist. I did it - u can do. (Don't make excuses)
I don’t think enough is known about all of these drugs, and the lasting effect it’s going to have on weight loss for a lot of these people. So you gotta feel sick have nausea and diarrhea to lose weight give me a break.
19 years of widespread Exenatide use shows GLP1's are fine.
Does Oprah have to take Ozempic the rest of her life? I heard it stops working after 18 months and then all the weight comes back on.
Absolutely
Great point. That's going to be a rude awakening later down the line because it's masking a problem that if they don't change will repeat itself.
not necessarily, its depends.
These medications have been studied for over 20 years
Exenatide...GLP1 used in practice since 2005...no scandal. Going strong.
It’s not a “weight problem “…… but rather a lack of self control with what you put in your mouth…. & how often you do it.
Take back your self control….. it will serve you well in ALL aspects of life.
This is just a pharmaceutical ad... Whatever happened to Fen Fen?
Pharma could not patent it as it was two drugs.
So what...past medication working on totally different mechanism wasn't good...will you ditch cars forever because the original Ford sucked, was slow, not eco-friendly and broke apart every so often? No airbags either, no crashtests?😅
The Phentermine part is still around.
Damages heart valves
Taken off the market. It was the new weight loss drug cure of its day.
Real weight loss and health takes lifestyle change like you did. Congratulations and keep it up!
You’re not everyone 🖕🏻
This is nothing new, everybody's problem mostly, eat more calories than you use.
It's a bit more complicated than that. Lol. But that works for some. There's more to it.
The drugs quiet that "food noise."
I'm fine enjoying a single adult beverage every month or two.
I will say, Oprah Winfrey looked wonderful at any weight.
How much did you get paid for it ?? from big Pharma for advertising Ozempik ??
I'm on Ozempic for type 2 diabetes. I get angry when I cannot refill my RX because of people who use it for weight loss. For the record it does diminish your appetite but I never had one anyway... You want to lose weight on it you still have to do the work! Diet, fitness and determination.
Poor Lisa Marie Presley died from complications of weight loss surgery, the stress to be thin is overwhelming ❤
Very helpful. Welldone and thank you for sharing
The fact is that Oprah has access to a different level of care her weight loss issues than we do. She could've taken care of it long ago if that's where she truly put her time, body, and mind.
This....yes
When Oprah supports anything run!
What study have they done on the lasting effects of taking such drugs...this is a scary trend...healthy food and active lifestyle is the only option for a healthy body
“You get Ozempic! You get Ozempic! You get Ozempic! You get Ozempic! Everybody gets Ozempic!”
🙂
I've been on the yo yo wagon for 33 years. It is true, the older you get the harder it is to come off. I would encourage everyone under my age of 55 to start now and stick with it. I'm struggling to the point of stressing myself out. It's definitely the mindset and I'm losing.
I love that Oprah says there is space for all points of view at the end of show. Thankfully we can ebb and flow through all possibilities.
This is no reason to take away a drug that someone needs to save their life. Those that are fat. Need to go and walk and stop eating all that junk.
Oprah is 70. Shes an elderly woman. Ozempic would be life saving.
The people who you say need it, diabetics, should get their diets straight as well and they can reverse it. There isn't one class I'd people who deserve it over the other.
Ms Winfrey doing literally anything gives me life. Thank you Jesus 🌹🌹🌹
Orca does not care a wit about you. Brainwashed!!
People’s lives are improving. This is socially significant to the individual’s overall life. People should do what is best for them but they have to have awareness of the consequences. Do the consequences outweigh the positives?
I have no problem taking them. I am just afraid of the side effects later on.
@@vhopine3776
I understand what you are saying.
@@pic376 Good point. I agree. It's difficult to not accelerate the process, but more gradual is probably healthier.
I can't find the full episode on Hulu for some reason
I know you must be happier, so I hope all goes well. Best wishes to you. 🙂
Never shamed her before….. but now that she is doing this….pushing this drug….. shame on you Oprah.
Isn't Ozempic for diabetics? So many people are on it that there is not enough for the people who really need it, people who are diabetic.
Thank you.
Appreciate all of Oprah Winfrey and her guest sharing the many levels through weight and challenges to find solutions through blame and shaming. Oprah Winfrey and her guest made a magnificent beautiful self success. ❤
Who listens to her nowadays anyway?? Shes become part of the "club" completely forgotten where she started
Who cares about Oprah's weight. Why is this news??
LOL obviously you care about Oprah, you care enough to leave a comment :)
in order to cover up her pedo friends
Oprah has always been a great person. I am sorry that so many think its important to criticize others for anything.
Try intermittent fasting. So much better than injecting drugs!
We live in a society where drugs are taken for everything . There is a place for medication, but it is overused and often used by people who have no need of it …fine if you need meds, but not so fine for everyone. The long term side effects aren’t taken into consideration and this should be part of the decision
Pray she stays healthy! 🙏
Why??????
Bless you to ❤😊
Just ate cookies through this😮
😆😆😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣
😊
God's children are not for sale!!!!
Smart lady. Picking a winning topic to kick off.
Oprah acts like she is the moral compass and expert on all for the world. I wonder how Malibu is doing since she turned it into Oprahland.
Oprah was actually looking just fine before she started the ozempic. She looked normal.
She doesn’t look normal now. She’s still thick!
Let's be real. We are weak when we can't lose the weight we should lose. We always have an excuse. Drugs for this problem aren't and will never be a good answer.
