    Great video. Helped me a lot replacing my battery today. Thank you!
    One remark:
    The positive cable should be located under the battery‘s holding bracket, as it was before.

      Oh yes, that would be a good idea! I didn't notice I'd messed that up. Thank you! I'd go out and fix it, but unfortunately an idiot driver wrote that car off a few months ago.

      Great! I'm glad I could help. It's nice and easy ... if you know what you're doing!
      (I have to admit, I looked at someone else's video before I did the job, but it was so bad I wanted to make a better one!)

    Very helpful thank you. Took me no time at all, only snag I had was the retention plate was rusted in. Great, straight forward guide.😊

      Great! I'm very glad it helped. I had a similar rust issue doing the brakes on a different car, lots of WD-40 and a bit of brute force sorted it out.

    How much was the battery and which model

    • @LaurencePlays
      @LaurencePlays  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used this battery www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006TC8TYM - I think it was the same capacity as the OEM one, it certainly worked! The price has gone up about 50% since I bought it though.

    Can these stop/start batteries be replaced with something with a battery that has higher cold cranking amps, better for cold starts? I have 2.0 cdti astra J (gtc). Wondering if I should get an upgraded battery when it needs replacing

    • @LaurencePlays
      @LaurencePlays  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm afraid I don't know - that Astra didn't have stop/start and until the battery died didn't have issues with starting. I don't see any reason you couldn't upgrade the battery, as long as you make sure it fits though. I'd recommend asking someone who knows a bit more than I do though - sorry!

  • @dadomaster

    In the end, did you recover the 10 mm. socket? It fell to me too, but I couldn't find it anymore... 😅

    • @LaurencePlays
      @LaurencePlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did indeed! You see me spotting it in the outtakes at the end, once I knew where it was I was able to reach in and grab it. The advantage of it being one of the smaller engines in the range is that there's plenty of room in the engine bay!

    Great video, does your Astra not have the stop/ start feature?

    • @LaurencePlays
      @LaurencePlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's not that posh! I know you need a different battery if you have stop/start, but I expect it's otherwise pretty similar.

    • @LaurencePlays
      @LaurencePlays  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I don't know what caused it to struggle so much the first time - maybe the engine was a bit flooded from too many attempts at starting. Still, after that it was basically OK until an idiot drove into the side of it!

    Do these batteries not have to be programmed?.

    • @LaurencePlays
      @LaurencePlays  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not at all - it has a positive terminal and a negative terminal - no electronics inside. I guess some cars might need to be told if the battery changes, but as far as I'm aware, the Astra wasn't that smart.

    • @dreadpirate1337

    • @LaurencePlays
      @LaurencePlays  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@dreadpirate1337 Ah, I'm afraid I don't know - this was an SXI, I think. 1.6 litre anyway, and generally pretty low spec. I know that if you have start/stop you need a more robust battery, but I don't know either way about programming it.

    Great tutorial, I have manged to replace my car battery but now my car wont start.
    I am sure I have put it back exactly like before but no idea how to test this without some major equipment. Any ideas?

    • @LaurencePlays
      @LaurencePlays  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, hard to say - I'd recommend charging the battery first, make sure it's not just flat! In my experience, new batteries are usually supplied about 50% charged, so it /should/ be OK, but it's worth checking.
      Does anything else work? When you put the ignition on, does the dashboard light up? If so, you might have missed out one of the connectors on the positive terminal, like I originally did, and then had to fix.

      If you mean finding the socket, getting my hand in there wasn't the hard part, it was working out where the socket had gone! Besides, she has me so she doesn't have to mess about with her car 😛
