Phenomenal video!
@@mckni5 thanks 😀 let me know if you see other areas I should cover!
So... Where is new video?)
@@Pashandr93 😬 I do want to release a lot more! Unfortunately I had a very busy end of year and had some plague, so I've only been managing the streams. I intend to do better in the new year though!
Good luck! I'll be waiting. 😊
@Pashandr93 thanks! I've got a woodwork video on the go as well, so lots of plans!
I must say, I really like that "no nutrients" warningsign of the biochamber. 🍕😋
Yeah, I feel like there's a "no pizza" sign flashing over my house at the moment!
The acid to heavy oil recipe is fairly sucky. Plenty of coal on vulc for liqufaction. Vulc is the best planet for anything that uses metals imo
Yeah, the non-acid one is just straight up better; doesn't use acid, gives out more oil per coal. I'll switch at some point! Actually, come to think of it, it does use a bit of acid, since that's how you get water on Vulcanus!
Great video, thanks. My battery indicator is black. Do I need to replace it? Battery is over 3 yrs old.
I'm not familiar with a battery indicator, but I expect car batteries to last about 10 years, unless they're abused (ie, flattened completely). If your car is still starting reliably and easily then there's probably no need to replace it. I generally wait until it's not working properly.
Thanks man, surprising how many other videos on trains I had to go through to find out the train limit thing, that's what I've been looking for.
People are making train tutorials and not mentioning train limits? Disgraceful! Still, my gain, I suppose? I've tried to make it complete, without making it overly waffly.
@LaurencePlays I got through two long ones and one short one and didn't hear it mentioned once. Maybe I missed it? 🤷♂️
@@ex0ja Hah, I was being rude about other people's videos, not your listening skills - I'm happy to believe they were just bad videos 😀
buen videito
I only just recently setup a robot manufacturing plant, both logistics and construction bots, currently im just using inserters to put them all into 1 roboport how do I get the robots to move to a different roboport thats empty?
You don't really need to - they'll pop out and start working when they're needed, however if you do want to have them in specific places, as long as you've upgraded to 2.0, you can set requests on the roboports to say how many of each type of bot they should try to maintain in themselves. If you can't find the option, let me know - I'm not in game at the moment, but I could take a look this evening.
@LaurencePlays I found it. You need to create a group and set the minimum. Thanks for the reply!
@@X_Potato Excellent! I knew it was in there somewhere 😀
Another incredible tutorial, thanks for that! Currently working on my first playthrough with default biters, so I appreciate the direction on how to better handle the turret walls!
Thank you 🙂 Yes, making the walls self sufficient is very useful because then you can just ignore it while you work on more important things, like growing the factory!
I'm looking forward to playing fulgora myself.
It's been very interesting! I'm impressed with how well the devs have given us very different experiences on the different planets, whilst still keeping everything feeling like Factorio.
With the new high quality construction bots, I wonder if they have difference when used from the player (personal roboport). Like the range for common to legendary construction bot are the same via personal roboport.
I've not played with high quality bots yet, however I have checked the wiki! Apparently bot quality affects their flying reach and their energy capacity (so, sort of the same thing twice), and their health which is sort of irrelevant. So, that means when running from your personal roboport, they'll be able to do more building before needing to recharge, but otherwise will seem exactly the same. Sadly, even if you get a higher quality personal roboport, the range stays the same, you just get faster charging and more robots. So, overall building will be faster (because your robots charge faster and can fly further before needing to charge), but you won't get any extra range, or speed from any individual bot. That's a shame!
Thanks for this, good job. I learned much! Also, you made me laugh :), extra star for this video (5+1).
Excellent! I'm glad I could help! I assume the laugh was for the mishap with the 10mm socket?
my train does not work for "Item Count". My Red Train & Green Train using same path, but Red Train is to carry item A, and for Green Train is to carry item B. However i try to set for Red Train only carry item A, and set for item B is equal to 0 zero, it does not work! It will still upload item B for my Red Train. do you understand what i mean? How do i disable certain item Not To Upload to my cargo instead ?
The item count doesn't tell the train what to load, it only tells it when to leave. If you want to have different trains load different things from the same station, you'll need to turn the inserters on and off based on which train has turned up (or set filters if you're using the same inserters). This is ... tricky, and to be honest, you'll be better off using separate stations for different resources.
@@LaurencePlays arh.... that is what i see from most player saying use different train/cargo instead...alright at least now i understand the cargo schedule is to determine "when to leave" instead of what to load... tq very much :)
@@七仔日记 Exactly! You're welcome 🙂 If you want your trains to behave a bit more like you're describing, you could try the LTN mod. It's a lot less necessary in 2.0 than it was in 1.1 and earlier releases, but it would still let you do mixed stations. Check out my videos on it: th-cam.com/video/Hk446UVlCuQ/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/5B4bkl_ChqA/w-d-xo.html The first one tells you how to get a very basic setup working, but the second one goes into having multi-function stations and other weird and complex things! I used this sort of setup a bit in my first Space Exploration run, 3 or so years ago.
what i notice is that the only safe obit is that of nauvis. Staying in fulgora orbit you still need to defend against asteroids. Just something to keep in mind if you plan to stay orbiting the planet for longer. I stayed in Fulgora orbit and my ship got a bit of damage as i was waiting for fuel and cargo to fill up, i got some power issues (or maybe some bad luck with metallic asteroids) and ammo production wasnt keeping up with demand. I had to ship up ammo to protect my ship against further damage.
I did discover that! Fortunately my proper Fulgora ship had enough ammo production and stock that it's able to sit up there essentially permanently - I've even got it shipping spare iron ore down to fulgora when required.
Oh! It is that easy? The manual is really bad on this. Even 2 years later. Just hit launch, then anchor. I kinda did not dare doing and was fussing around with clamps and automation to make it go somewhere when WASD and boarding did not make it go. hah!
Yeah, flying a spaceship isn't like driving a car or a tank! Manually controlling them is pretty trivial, but the automation can get quite deep and complex, depending on how clever you want to be with it! If you want to see a more extreme ship design, check out this video: th-cam.com/video/F-sQRV3udBw/w-d-xo.html
I've been looking for a definitive playlist of all your Factorio tut's and I can't find it... I know some are more relevant to 2.0 than others, but your train, bot, and circuits (with some 2.0 differences from 1.1) tuts I found useful... I am looking for your complete set...
There is indeed a playlist of all my Tutorios - th-cam.com/play/PLALTzJaRcgW_HiwViLzH0owcxI1UoThKD.html - I haven't sorted them into ones that are relevant for 2.0, but they are sorted by vanilla/mod. Hope that's useful!
@@LaurencePlays k, ty for your response... I saved that link. I was thrown off by the one with the Mod title... I also heard you somewhere in your live play that you'll eventually do new tuts for 2.0.7+ so that's cool too. I was told various parts of the game I can go back different numbers of years, e.g., trains back almost 4! Circuits, none, they've added stuff... I was told even the official Wiki for Factorio's circuit pages haven't been updated yet, so no worries... I want to do more with circuits than "if this hits x turn off, or if this goes under y turn on... I have to redo my oil refineries to deal with overproduction of light oil and petrol gas by sending them to make lub or cracking... or something, I'm still working at saturation levels of learning Factorio, but that's my sweet spot... where I start to forget all the stuff I need to learn, so I go back and review it again. I made my ISS (International Space Station) to no where for white science, so I'm learning how not to get lost in space and I noticed I definitely need my refinery system to be better for all the rockets... and down the rabbit hole I go. Iterating until it's not a horrifying mess not producing enough of anything is where it's at, at least for me.
@@jeffreyspinner5437 Yeah, I do need to update the tutorios at some point, but I need to play enough of 2.0 to get a good idea of what's changed first! You can still do all the circuit stuff I've talked about before, but the user interfaces will have changed, and it might be possible to do more. The concepts are still the same though.
@@LaurencePlays k, ty. I'm trying not to do a random walk in the problem space, because historically I've actually gotten to solutions most ppl never considered, but I've also missed some of the minimum competence level solutions everyone should know... that's why I've doing my deep search to not make the mistakes of others, but learn their solutions like priming a pump.
@@jeffreyspinner5437 Yeah, it's a lot more fun to solve problems yourself rather than see other people's solutions, but once you've done something, then it can be interesting to see how other people have done it as well.
You can't throw materials from one inserter to another. it's just a graphical effect.
I suspected that would be the case, but it was an amusing idea! Especially if you could transfer items between ships 😀
Cant wait to see what you cook up on Gleba. I plan to go there first to flex on the people who complain about it.
Heh... We've got a couple of people on the Discord who are very pro Gleba! It sounds like an ... interesting place!
Hey! The SA Stream playlist is great, but it's ordered from most recent to least (except for the two E1s, which are in the correct order for some reason). Is that easily fixable, or more trouble than it's worth? Thanks!
You're right, that's very unhelpful! In the past, it's normally put them in the right order automagically... I've fixed it now, hopefully it'll stay fixed when I add more! Thanks for letting me know 🙂
1:06:51 Watching this after Space Age has been released is very funny to me 😂 Love your content man, it's great to relax to and play my own Space Age save to~
Hah, yes! The rumours were true! And now, almost 2 years later, it's here! \o/ Thank you - I'm glad you're enjoying it. There's plenty of it to watch 😀 I'm doing a Space Age stream as well, Mondays and Wednesdays, so please come along if you're free!
this part of the game blew me away, both in terms of a puzzle and just conceptually, ive never seen anything like this in a video game. I was never able to automate it on my first blind playthrough, i made all the science i needed by manually balancing them and always holding onto one of each so that if they all became zetas or something i would be able to manually balance them back to even amounts, but it was very time consuming.
Ooof, that does sound like a painful way of doing it! I agree though, it's very different to anything else in Factorio and I'm very impressed with Earendel for coming up with it!
Nice to see you playing 2.0 ^^. One tip, you can automatically send custom ammounts in the rockets, not only the full rocket capacity of the item. For that, in the space platform, create a request, and bellow where you set the quantity, there is a checkbox about custom ammount. You put that to the ammount you need, let's say 15 inserters, and the rocket will launch when it has 15 inserters instead of 50. This with normal inserters is trivial, what does it matter send 15 or 50? but with quality stuff you may want to send only what you need instead of having to wait for 50 rare solar pannels when you only need 5. It makes send each item more expensive, as in automatic mode only sends one item at a time and ti would not make a mix package, but well, it is usefull.
I had discovered that I could make mixed rockets by feeding them manually (where manually can be with an inserter from a blue chest), and I had noticed the setting you're talking about, but hadn't really played with it. I think I'd rather pack the rocket a bit fuller, even if I have to launch it manually. Although the last time, I just overflowed it with whatever under the assumption that I'd need all that stuff on Vulcanus anyway! I'm just starting to play with quality, and it's currently a mess and I should tidy it up, but I've run away to a different planet. 😀
@LaurencePlays when dealing with quality I always end making a mess xd last time for some reason my controlers didn't work well and I overflowed all my yellow chests with quality coal and stone 🤣
@@eriafi Nice. I've had similar issues with quality ice and solid fuel, at least until I came along and went "I don't want any of this! Bonfire!"
Super!
Awesome stuff, thanks for this dude. I'm stuck in a weird limbo right now where I have purple science automated but I'm making only tiny amounts of it because I've just realised my base is woefully inefficient. So I've torn out most of my coal furnaces and retrofitted their outputs as inputs for trainstations that I'm supplying with Iron and Copper plates from miles away. I think it's definitely time to de-tangle some of my spaghetti and bring my base into the computer age though. This has really helped with straightening out how I'm gonna manage that. Chest still seem unreasonably complicated but I'm sure they'll make sense as I go through trial and a lot of error haha. Thanks again dude!
Yeah, early on it's just red and yellow chests - red are for machines to dump into when they make stuff so that the bots can build with it and yellow chests are for the bots to dump stuff into that they might use later, or they might just turn into a rubbish tip! I also find my base follows those lines... I'll build the first one from the starting ore patches, feeding into furnaces and then onto the bus, all directly. Then the initial patches will run out so I'll move mining away and start training in the ore. Then the furnaces will be too slow, so I'll build a smelting area and bring ore in by train and take metal away by train. Oh, and at some point I'll move circuit production off the bus as well, and train that in, with the inputs being trained in too. And eventually if I'm doing a big enough factory, I'll move science off to separate areas as well.
Very good, well explained of the order of chest in moving item
Thank you! It was tricky to come up with a good way to show it, so I'm glad it worked 😀
I like how you did this TH-cam video. Nicely done. 👍 and nice car! 😉
I'm glad you like it 😀
Is priority input splitter one of the 6 main mechanics? :)
Hah, I'm surprised Mike left that one out!
Losing the spaceship flooring is I guess the intended method but there isn't much difference to it, when it comes to placing arcolinks.
Yeah, the torpedo can just land there easily enough and it doesn't matter if it's got some funny floor under it!
👍
I HAVE 1000 HOURS IN FACTORIO AND NEVER REALIZED I COULD CONNECT INSERTERS TO THE LOGISTICS NETWORK!?!?!?!
Hah! It's a neat trick, and an excellent way of making sure you don't overproduce because you've got stock elsewhere. If it makes you feel any better, I've got 3,000 hours in, and it was pointed out to me on stream last night that I could have done that and it would've been a much simpler solution than the one I ended up using!
Changed my battery on Astra GTC 1.4L TURBO. My stop start is working again and there is no need to 'register' the battery.. It auto relearns.. Sometimes needs overnight. Cheers for your help dude.
Excellent, glad to hear it's worked well for you. That one didn't have start/stop, but I would expect the process to be the same, just with a slightly different battery.
You've just answered the question I was gonna ask. Cheers!
Very very minor addition: EVERY constant combinator needs to be connected to its lamp. This includes depots etc. I think it was strongly implied in the first station setup but not very clear if you just watch the depot chapter.
True, all signals do need to be connected to the station input lamp. I guess I felt that was obvious enough, but perhaps not!
@@LaurencePlays I was hopping around the video a LOT and doing things out of order. Depots were not depoting until I got that one wire in place. Very well could be operator error. >.> Thanks so much for the video. As everyone else has said, its an excellent reference and the youtube algorithm knows it.
@@andguent Ah, it's easy to miss a step if you're jumping around... But then sometimes you don't want to watch the bits you already know. It's a dilemma. 🙂 I'm glad it's taken off the way it has, but I expect its days are numbered - Factorio 2.0 has seriously reduced the need for LTN, so I don't think there'll be as many people using it in the future, and so they won't need the video!
none of this works
I can assure you that it all works! If you're having specific problems, I might be able to help, but you can see that it works because I demonstrate it all in the video.
So well laid out.
Thanks! You should see my actual, organically grown factories though... They're never anything like as neat!
As another example how training volumes can be deadly: there's this guy here under the pseudonym Michael Savage who has watched his associates, friends and enemies dirt nap laughing at him riding his bike, while they were runners. He just rides his bike around and has outlived them all because of his nutrition knowledge and research into how not to unlive yourself. ...and Michael has a family history of dying young because of bad hearts. His dad died very young (age 57), while Michael himself is now 82. From the studies I've read, 90% of the benefit from exercise can be accomplished with 45 mins of walking 5 days a week. Nutrition is the key to looking fit, not the training btw. Try to falsify that too...
First I just noticed this randomly, I wasn't looking for it, but when I realized it was Laurence of Factorio, I was happy. That being said, Sadly, I was fooled by "popularizers" of weight training most of my life. I used to do 405lb supersetted squats, 350lb supersetted bench presses and Idr how much deadlifts... as my major focus because I was about being able to transfer the largest amount of force into a person trying to hurt me as possible, so functional strength was paramount. That being said, when on dates women would shake like a leaf, which at the time I was pissed about, because they should have realized they were safer with me because I would protect them... little did I realize in my youth, they were shaking for another reason, which made them slip off chairs too... I had to be careful to be ready to catch them falling off chairs :) What I missed was the idea of minimum effective dose. I learned that as a random walk finding the "Nautilus Training Principles" and my medical training much later. Long story short, our bodies were not designed for mass movement of weights. All that happens is that the same system that deals with recovery, our immune system, is engaged to repair the damage we cause ourselves. Even our nervous system can get overwhelmed by the training too. With large volumes, all you're doing in suppressing your immune and nervous systems, which manifests first as motivation shortcomings, random bouts of frustration with random things, then avoidance of training, then _injury_ if you persist. I know, I've injured myself like a derp 2x before I valued me more than my training... Be careful, you're not in your twenties anymore, where we could hump for days, never sleep and train like we're in a concentration camp. Keep track of your blood pressure and pulse rates. Though a medium to late sign of overtraining, take those increases seriously. You don't make gains when training, you make gains when resting... I got a national Personal Training Cert because my sphere of friends and family didn't take my muscle thickness or great strength as good enough qualifications for suggesting how to train for them... then again, after my national cert, they didn't listen to me then either (!) Like Jesus, he never did make a sale in his home town, I guess. The funniest situation was when I was dating a girl from Russia who was a gymnast. Their training regimes I had to respect, we argued all the time about what worked... Then again the girl I almost married but instead died of MS over 9 years, argued with me about protein requirements when training. So, I started to train her, and she conceded the Columbia School of Physicians and Surgeons, Dept of Nutrition, where she was attending got that part wrong. Mo' protein is required. (duh). It took me 2 decades to realize I was training many times too hard and only hurting my body and mind, and reducing my life span because of the stress. Consider trying to falsify my assertions, and worse how the commercial bodybuilding industry had professional bodybuilders that constantly lied to their audiences. Remember Lou Ferrigno? Schwarzenegger always gave him the wrong advice, so he could ensure he always won... no different with those magazines and even most "studies" which according to Sabine is just part of "The Reproducibility Crisis." We don't or don't want to have access to testosterone (I did TRT after I turned 50, and it didn't do anything for me physically, but my mind thought like I was a young man...), Hgh, and most importantly the "cause of roid rage," which I never experienced juicing myself under the TRT regimen... methamphetamine and cocaine to increase training intensity because they were overtraining too. So unless you stack blow and crack, no downside, imo. Same reason why I decided not to be a comedian: I could take the late nights, but the alcohol and blow would have killed meh. Oh, secondary effect of injecting myself with testosterone cypionate (my docs allowed me because I was a retired FDNY Paramedic, and I knew how to do IM injections) is that young women noticed me again, and I'd like to believe it was only because they smelled my high level of testosterone once more... my blood levels were pretty high... it was very flattering to go from invisible to noticed once more, btw. The one thing I do miss (I was a high level combat person too) was when I knew I was the strongest man in the room, it was always very relaxing. I used to be the 300 lb gorilla in the room intellectually, but that was easily overcome by throwing fists by my intellectually unskilled opponents. Once I was stronger than them, and as hard as a stone statue (according to women that showered with me), amazingly bullies or anyone else just didn't start with me. Hmmm. Taught my boys about that too. Stay safe and enjoy, and vet everything you see, hear and read from our beneficent gov't, "docs," and media, because they only have our best outcomes at heart everyday in every way.
I still dont understand why a simple task: providing pipes to a single factory doesnt work. I have logistic robots. I have over 4k pipes in my logistics network, the factory is out of pipes yet the error I get is that item shortage. How is that possible with over 4k pipes in the logistics network. Everything is in range as you mentikned in the orange box.
If you're trying to build pipes with construction bots, make sure the pipes are in a red, yellow, green or purple chest (it sounds like they are) and that the area you want to build is in roboport coverage and that the roboport for the area you're trying to build in is linked to the roboport for the supply (look on the map, turn on roboport coverage and make sure there's solid orange all the way there). Oh, and that you have construction bots available! If you're trying to supply pipes to an assembler, make sure that you've got a blue chest and that it's requesting them, and also the roboport coverage and linkage I mentioned earlier. Also make sure you have logistics bots available in that area!
@LaurencePlays thank you so much for the reply. I might have zero blue chests. I will check it once I am back home. Wait a second. I thought logistic bots can supply an assembler directly. So I need chests where the bots put the items and I need inserters for that chests the bots are filling up with inlut goods? So in other words, logistic bots can never directly feed an assembler?
@@KopiG86 That's correct - if you want a bot based construction system, you need a blue chest for the logistics bot to deliver the supplies to, an inserter feeding into an assembler, then another inserter outputting into a red chest so bots can collect from it. Bots won't interact directly with an assembler.
@@LaurencePlays Thank you again! So basically logistics bots are completely useless till you research Logistic system. What a stupid system. So thats another science type. Starting to dislike this game.
@@KopiG86 Not completely useless - they can be used to supply the player with useful building materials. You're partly right though, they aren't all that useful early on - the exciting unlock at this point is the construction bots!
hi, are there maximum orange box that logistic bot can travel?
No - as long as they're all linked together, a bot will fly as far as it needs to. Do be aware that bots are slooooow though, so if you have a massive roboport area, it could take a long time for a requested build or delivery to actually happen. In Factorio 1, it was possible for bots to get stuck if you had a C shaped roboport network and they were trying to take a shortcut across from one end to the other, and ran out of power part way. That has been improved in 2.0, but I haven't properly tested it yet myself.
@ i put yellow belts in a red passive box in one part of my map. but the construction robot didnt fly there to pick up the belts in that red box. i made sure all the network lines are connected
@@palihensem I assume they didn't pick them up from somewhere else? That sounds about right - the red chest needs to be in an orange area, the area to build needs to be in an orange or green area and the roboports need to be linked all the way. I'd suggest you try testing it by putting a red box with a couple of pieces of belt much closer, and working away until you find the problem. I'm sure it'll be something very simple when you find it! Have you had construction working in general?
@@LaurencePlays i want to thank you so much for replying my comment. forgive my english. now problem is solve. maybe the blueprint needed are red belt not yellow belt. the belts i put in my red chest are the yellow ones. now the bots are flying across my factory bringing the belts. thank you again sir.
@@palihensem Aha! I'm glad I managed to help shake something loose. 🙂 I have noticed over the years that every time I think there's an issue in Factorio, it's actually something that I've done wrong, so I'm glad you were able to find the issue!
As the representative for the < 5% of your viewers that are Factorio noobs, I want it be known your presentation shows gameplay, tips and tricks, e.g., how to get to bots (my current task) while doing things in a way I can understand e.g., circuits that make me more inclined to use them as soon as I can… You deserve wider viewership imo.
Thanks! I'm glad I can help! I'm always happy to answer questions, especially during the streams, and I've made a number of Tutorio videos that go into things like bots in more detail, typically in about 10 minutes each. I'd love the wider viewership too 😀
@@LaurencePlays I'll check out your by topic videos, thanks. I've been watching your streams but 6hr streams when I learn and apply, learn and apply iteratively makes going through them, e.g., when I found your use of ctrl + LMB to fill a machine (level of noob, yes, I had to research how you did that) isn't trivial at all. These newfangled digital recordings really are useful! That being said, you did get your roboports online, and showed me I misinferred needing the bots in my suit first, which is actually harder to make. Thanks for that too! Given Trump's win, the misandry and heterosexism of this platform may take a turn for the better with crackerjacks (sans the jacks). After all, today it was reported the Obamas took their jets to Dubai _for some reason..._ All I got from Trump's last term was the ability to say "Merry Christmas" without getting attacked, so I can't say he never did nothing (sic) for meh. So, now I'm curious how often comments will be going poof and if Ritz Crackers™ like us will not be as suppressed as before. We will see. On a live stream yesterday, it seemed even though the Brits on it were fretting there goes their monetization, I have to check if it was demonetized or not. I watch Mr Brown Alliance which is based in UKistan. We were saying way too much truth if it was the pre Trump era... So keep an eye on your subs and views, it may be allowed to reflect the actually data now, maybe... then again in the West most ppl have a shorter attention span than a goldfish... so I have no predictive confidence on this one way or the other...
@@jeffreyspinner5437 That's true, watching someone actually play and seeing what they do gives you lots of clues to the basic stuff that we don't even think about making into videos. Do keep asking any questions that come up, or come along to a stream and ask them live if you want. Yes, personal robots and base robots aren't dependant on each other - it's the same bots for both, but you don't need to set up one before the other. I should get personal ones up and running at some point though...
You provided the exact answer to what I'm looking for. I was wondering how to store yellow belts but make sure they're used when crafting red belts. It looks like green chests are the way to go. Thank you!
Yes! I just added that in my Space Age run last night; I unlocked full logistics, so I've now been able to put green chests in the middle of my belt assembly plant. 🙂 I just set the request to at least 5000 and make sure the inserter adding brand new ones is limited to maybe a few hundred, so there's always room to pull any spares and it's always trying to.
So I unlocked logi bots today and put down a roboport. I then put down a red passive provider chest and a yellow storage chest... these are the only two chests that I have right now that are relevant to the logi network. I then put the roboport right beside them, some iron plates in the red one and nothing in the yellow.. just as your diagram shows, the bots do nothing - red doesn't transfer to yellow. I then put a filter on the yellow to only allow iron plates... again, red doesn't transfer to yellow so the bots do nothing. So... I unlocked logi bots and roboports and apparently they basically do nothing until I unlock the end game tech that requires yellow science? ...no wonder why I never bothered with them before... I can manage my own inventory just fine. I mean, I'll use them for that... but what a ridiculously gimped version of logi bots. 😕 Please tell me I'm missing something. (Of note: I do use a personal roboport with construction bots - they're amazing.)
Yeah, the logistics bots don't do a huge amount in the early game - they're basically there to supply the player (and something else if you play Space Age!), which is still quite useful, especially when paired with a personal roboport and construction bots. But yes, construction bots are amazing, logistics bots are a sort of mildly useful side effect. Fortunately, the recipes are almost exactly the same so it's not difficult to make them both! The filter you put on the yellow chest will sort of work - any bots which grab things that are filtered will take them to those chests if they can... But they won't grab from red chests to do so unless you have them deconstruct the chest. That means they're good for ensuring that when you deconstruct a belt of iron plates, they don't just get dumped into general storage. They don't work for feeding assembly machines.
I left my game running over night and I now have 100k bots that are just idle been trying to find a solution. Thanks for the help
Build a megabase so you can use all your bots 😀 I'm happy to help - normally, I link to a roboport so I'm only building bots when there aren't any available, hopefully keeping the number at what the factory needs, rather than what'll fit in the roboports!
I offer you this correction, not as a gotcha, but as a way to payback for all the things you've taught me with playing factorio. Most ppl won't even notice the mistake, but given I think you're a STEM guy of some type: @6:44 when you are setting up the intervals for the red/yellow/green light states, you do the first 2 correct, but _say_ the right thing for the third ("X is greater than 66), but show X is greater than or equal to 66 (as the symbol selected) which is a violation of the principles of mutually exclusive intervals. "How dare you!" - Greta -Garbo- Thunberger (sic). If I ever created a study without mutually exclusive intervals, and gave it in for dept review, they'd make me stand in some public place where I'd have to say over and over, without mutually exclusive intervals my study is horsepucky. Nowadays as the ytube video proved, our studies suffer from " The Reproducibility Crisis" (you want to see two ladies (one is Sabine, so you know that's the right video) describe a horror show, that's the video to watch...) Most ppl don't realize reproducibility is one of the requirements of being actual science... no biggie! I just realized I may have a little PTSD from my grad school experience... 🤔 Thanks for all your work putting up Factorio videos...
I lasted a whole 3 hours in space age before i put long reach in, the buzzing every time i clicked on something drove me nuts
It has been quite annoying! I want the achievements and the bragging rights though, so I'm sticking with vanilla for now! I've got bots being built though so I'm through the worst of it!
cardinal and ordinal
Aha, that seems to be right! That gets to 8 anyway, I think I usually have vehicle snap at about 16 to give more flexibility.
So many of the QoL things you mentioned wanting to keep are in base game now. Mech suit = jetpack, the in-game encyclopedia now does what recipe book used to... Anyway, you're valid and I'm excited to see what you'll think of Space Age/2.0
Agreed, so much has been included! My most popular video (ltn) is now hardly needed! So much has changed.
So far, I'm enjoying 2.0, but I haven't got to space yet, so it's basically still just Factorio 😀
2 years old but this a great video. Thank you. Returning to Factorio for the DLC and I never understood circuit networks well enough to mess with them (probably why I never got through to beat the vanilla game). Most tutorials are either way too quick/basic, or they're doing the exact thing you're describing: showing off things you CAN do but not what is practical and with examples.
Thanks! Yeah, I've always been annoyed by guides that just tell you what's possible, but don't actually show you how! You could complete factorio without circuits, but they allow you to do much cleverer things. Like balance oil processing!
So in other words robots are useless until you have yellow science pack
Not at all! They can build the blueprints you lay down and they can bring supplies to you. That's 90 percent of what I use bots for!
Do you still need to do the whole circuitry? The consule itself has a planner.
@@nosteinnogate7305 probably not! This video was made before that update came out and it's probably much easier now. I've not looked at the new systems though, been too distracted with Space Age (and a holiday!)
Hey Laurence, how about moving chat to the bottom left corner. That way you cover less of the menus when looking at research, trains, etc. I'm enjoying the stream!
