  • A tutorial showing how to fit FMA ARC Rail Adapters to a pair of MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X to go onto a FMA BJ (Base Jump) helmet.
I’m not sure if the MSA Sordins are similar inside to the Z-Tactical replicas, please comment below if you’ve opened a pair up comment below.

Fantastic tutorial on doing this. At least they made them so they can actually be taken apart which is rare in modern electronics.

    Very helpful.
    I’d add
    1. The circlip holes are small - 1mm. So you will need circlip pliers with correspondingly small tips. And yes the circlip pliers need to be good ones
    2. The circlips are strong but brittle. If you break one, the replacements you’ll need are those sized for a 7mm shaft (the circlip is slightly smaller than 7mm)
    3. Some adapter arms are strong spring steel and can’t be squashed with pliers as shown. However, if you heat just the end of the wire red hot with a small blowtorch (obviously not near the headset) it is then possible to bend it.
    4. The torx screws are tiny - T9

I recently opened up my Z Tac Sordins, only to discover that they look nothing like the MSA on the inside. I saw a comment about another Z Tac Sordins which looked the same as the MSA (Patrick Sannemann, further down in the comment section) but maybe there exists several different versions of the Z Tac Sordins. Like I said, mine however didn't look similiar to these demonstrated in this video.
So I put the earmuff-cover back and decided to go the wrong way and actually "cut" the original metal headband-arms in two and then just bend and squeeze them off, from the outside. A little tricky and you got to be a little rough to the headset but eventually they came off and I could just simply install the new arms of the ARC Rail adapters.
Well they're on now, so I don't think I'll be taking them off in the nearest future. Great instructional video, however.
Correction: the C-clips are there on the Z-Tac Sordins, just like these MSA's demonstrated in the video, but the electronics are a bit different, so I chose not to tinker around with it due to the fact that well for 1) they're quite cheap asian-made headset with uncertain quality to the solderings and such and 2) they have no warranty if anything should go wrong.
SO you COULD very well do the very same "correct" installation with the Z Tac Sordins, however be prepared that they are not as well suited for the installation as the MSA's.
I did it an alternative way, and it works.

Thanks for the review on the Z-Tac Sordins. I just ordered a pair from Ali Express, only to find out, just after it was actually shipped out, that I wouldn't be able to attach it to my helmet... So, basically what you did was to apply some good old brute force to bend the original metal holders and then instal the the ARC adapter without having to open the muffs? Thanks once again!

Mine are Sordin Pro X's with the Sordin name on the sides instead of MSA.
The arms are quite hard to open up, I would suggest getting a pair of ring pliers which arent that exspensive from Lowes or Home Depot, and a cheap set of torx screw drivers.

So they do in fact work with an external PTT and mic set-up and you can receive incoming transmissions through the head set? I know it says in the video but just for clarification. Great video by the way =) also with the kenwood radio you're using. its a 2 pin connection. I assume the cables and ptt and other bits are easy to find. I'd be very grateful for your help ;)

    • @airsoftcamman
      @airsoftcamman  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, in a way. The headset has a 3.5mm plug, so you can input any external sound into them you like. I use an external Kenwood Mic with PTT (yes it's 2 pin) and the PTT Mic has a 2.5mm out on it. So I just purchased a cable with 2.5mm male one end and 3.5mm the other from ebay and that provides transmission sound from the radio to the headset. Hope this helps.

I'm out (so I'm not going to Ukraine thankfully) and don't do airsoft. However, a coming collapse is heading our way. IF it gets bad instead of having gear I collected and never will use again I am interested in Mounting my OG MSA's to my rails. I figure an extra already setup gear ready to go if the shooting starts. I usually use Bowman style and only figure the helmet config is a better option because IF things get bad I will run NOD's too for a PVS 7 or 14. I rather have a sturdy helmet to mount this. IF NOTHING happens then the setup will be for Nature night walks and amplification of the MSA to listen to nature sounds. BTW since the MSA integrates with a radio it's matched to a U90 PTT to a K1 which runs into my radio. Areas are remote so I always take a radio as cell service is sporadic. I'm a Extra Class so can run radio repeater comms legally along with simplex in the event a med emergency comes along. With that said I'd rather buy a less priced $50 rail set for Larpers than a $250 original NSN version Uncle Sucker pays. unless there is a huge issue with the quality, So this is a reason why some others are here, looking at Alts for better pricing and setups for our gear.

Never again. will I do it. and those fma arc rail adapters for zsordin suck. they are u shaped on the hinge which means the headsets comes unhooked all the fucking time. if u want ur headset mounted like this either spend tons of money getting the sara arc adapters for ur sordins or simply buy comtac 2s cuz there arc rails simply clip on to the hinges of the headsets. or just rake the padding out of ur helmet and run it with the headsets still attached ur sordins or comtacs, that way if ur outside u can have the option of just wearing ur headset without a helemt.
