that pulling test is the kind of stuff we need more of. Model trains are delightful and whimsical and absurd and you can do silly stuff like that, do it more often if you please!
A few other reasons railroads spray their lines is to keep the ballast clean for proper drainage which helps cross ties last longer. It also helps with inspections being able to see the cross ties and the tieplates. Another reason that’s not so obvious is that with a lot of vegetation build up plants can get between the wheels and the rails and cause excessive slipping for traction moving forward and stopping.
Ah, yes -- the DDT special. And the onboard engineer is drinking open coffee? Hmm. I'm with you, Eric. MoW equipment is unique, fascinating, and colorful. I've been to many model railroad shows and searched out MoW equipment and dioramas. Thanks for sharing.
Definitely one of the most unique offerings brought to O scale. So cool! Love the PFAs! Didn't know about the other road names available. Also Eric they did make a separate sale UP MOW green caboose for this set. I see them on ebay from time to time.
Eric, perfect timing! When I saw your video, it reminded me that I have it; got it new back in 2000. I just stored it away in my train room--never opened nor ran. After seeing just how cool it is, I pulled it out and will have it on the tracks tomorrow. I'm going to follow Matt's Train Room advice and changed out the battery. Such a beautiful set.
For what it's worth. I like when you review older stuff, not everyones shopping the cutting edge, or maybe the thing they are foremost lookjng for at the moment hasn't been made in a recent run. Thanks for the great videos!
Loved this overview! I work for MoW as a repairman and I've never seen this. Definitely something to look out for in the real world (if its still untilized) and now I definitely need this for my layout. Thank you again for an amazing job.
I definitely have to try to make this in HO as a unit that will be pulled by one of my engines if I can not find a good motor over a single 2 axle unit. Don't like the sound, but I don't have any sound on my road now... I like the quiet and the noise that the wheels make over the occasional track expansion joint...
This is one of the most beautifully unique trains I've ever seen I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! and of course on Erics Trains your bound to learn a lot about this incredible machine! This was a great video Eric Thanks so much❤🚂😁
I also have been waiting for them to do another run of these, along with the Pennsylvania L5 electric they even put that one on the front cover of their catalog and never made it they only did one run of it ever and it does more money than when it was produced
Looks great Eric, I always saw this at show’s for sale but never knew what features it had or how it was going to sound. Very cool and it looks right at home on your layout.
The MTH DC-3 has the PFA where it keeps moving. I always thought MTH sequences always stopped... long story short I learned the hard way on a short piece of track lol
I have to correct you on one thing. I have been employed by a Class-1 for well over 20 years... The stuff that is used doesn't kill the weeds. It more like fertilizes them and becomes a constant issue as well as brush encroaching on the right of way. Due to weak sprays and the lack of brush cutting machinery it has become quite a joke now with vegetation control.
Eric do not wait changing out battery! I have a lot of PS2 units that take 8.4 Volt battery and they are notoriously leak and corrode connectors ! A couple of my units had to send out to Atlantic Rails to replace connectors!
Hey Eric, I'd definitely change that battery now! I assume that has the 5V boards that are known to be trouble-some at times and, per my understanding, the issues all relate to old batteries. Would probably be in your best interest to swap it out ASAP.
Next thing ya know Eric’s gonna be running all his cars on one massive long train with 8 engines in the front mid and back 😂 but this was a pretty long train this thing pulled lmao! That’s pretty awesome This comment is purely for laughs unless Eric does that but I doubt he has the real estate for this lol
Eric, I looked for that train in the "real world" but could not find it. I found other types of weed spraying trains UP, NW, etc but not that style. One even had 6 tanker cars, that's a lot of weeds. Amy Idea where I can find one of these styles on the internet running? stay safe Ralph
Modern weed sprayers used by the railroads look different than this. These were used back in the day. If you google, you'll see some images of them from years past.
@@Ericstrains yes I googled the heck out it and truthfully the MTH unit was a great-looking unit compared to the other units I found. Could not find the MTH unit online. I would like to see how the lines on the back of the unit attached to the tanks behind when spraying regards Ralph

I wanted to ask you long time ago but forgot but was wondering are all the corners on the main table 72 curve? Oh you didn't say your "Best feature in your Opinion" on that sprayer model lol
Yo, ERIC!!!!!! Just watched your PULL TEST of the WEED SPRAYER! 44 cars, on the INNER LOOP. if you switch to the MIDDLE, or OUTSIDE LOOP, how many moore cars, could you pull? Just Checking, BOSS!!!!!!!! VT_Dave
Shouldn’t there be some kind of hose connections between the cars for the chemicals? I would imagine you would need significant plumbing to keep the sprayers running.
things like that make a railroad unable to buy then then make one with a 3d printer tankers are easy the box car is nearly easy just beed a good 3d printer guy to make one you cab allways push it around with another loco with todays tecnolagy you can use an old loco fit the body and you can add all the speach with your own voice these days it must be based on a loco get a box car modifi the cab end with a 3d printer what a challenge it would be

Very nice addition to your collection now those weeds on your layouts won't get out of control👍👍
You got that right!
Cool piece Eric......I may have some MTH Catalogs form 2000 I'll have to check to see when they were first made available.......
Cataloged in 1999, delivered in 2000
Super sweet!!!!
I agree that someone should release this set again, they are cool
you got the little engine that could right there
“What are you doing honey?”
*”Charging my $400 locomotive”*

Nice review Eric! I like the look of that Weed Sprayer. It’s cool how it pulls those tanker behind it.
Pretty cool never seen one. Now I want one too
Very unusal👍Thanks for sharing Eric!
Super. Hello from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado. 💙 T.E.N.
wow my favorite part of Railroad I have find me set
That looks cool!
I would love to see Lionel release this set with smoke as the weed spray and a smoke unit - they could really get creative with this
That's awesome! I know how old it is but still in good condition!
yep!
OMG That’s Gorgeous!!! ❤ I gotta get one of those.
I started collecting the green and yellow C&O MOW Railcars. 👍🏻
Go for it!

Earliest MTH catalogue I have is 2001 Volume III
Such a Unique piece, I wouldn’t mind owning one in Legacy since that’s all I run atm.

I've always liked unique mow equipment
I have the Amtrak set! Put BCR in and love it!

I love the green color of the weed sprayer rolling stock car's brother, I am still trying to find a train set of these in a set of 8 cars.
Hola buenas tardes muchas gracias por subir el video muy bueno el video abrazo grande
That is so cool - never seen one before - did it come with the box?
Yes
loved the pulling test! funny to watch haha
Looks great...runs great.
How about reviewing a 4-4-4-4 t1 engine? Like the one that’s getting built now
MTH: This is a Weed Sprayer.
Eric: This is a Road Switcher Ouroboros.
That’s amazing how many cars the engine can pull
i think it would be neat to run this train with the track cleaning tank car
That's a good idea!
Super! So you have a wonderful one!👏👍
all that coffee the engineer is drinking probably helped.
Also the weeds are contributing to keep the humidity and accelerates the deterioration of the tie's life.
Awesome!
Love the vid. A great fun.

Turns out somebody already did. I opened it up and there was already a BCR installed. No wonder it was still working perfectly!

I think the weed sprayer is an ugly beast but like you Eric, I just love them! Great video as usual. Cheers Peter from down under.
I love it!
I love how MTH knew that weeds were going to be an issue for garden model railroads
"It's not a good image to have your track look like trash" - I call your attention to the absolute mess made by train thieves in California... Sad.
Yeah, that came to mind for me as well. It's terrible out there.
I have this in my collection and the accompanying caboose that matches this set. Made by MTH
I didn't know MTH made a matching caboose. What is the item number?
I'd change that battery out now. Nicads are known for their leaking.
I like living dangerously. Danger is my middle name.

It suprises me that they didnt fit a smoke unit in there, given that companies regularly fit smoke units into much smaller pieces.
I really like that weed spray a car now you get me wondering how can I find my cell phone I really like that a lot I can't wait to hear how it sounds in a crew talk thank you very much
I hope you find your cell phone!
Its almost both pulling and pushing at 40 cars hahaha its so close to the caboose.
