How to Use an ECOLLAR Correctly

  • The ecollar, also often referred to as electric collar or SHOCK Collar can be a very effective tool for dog training or it can be an instrument of torture.. it all depends on your understanding of the tool. In this video I work with Rio and Harold. Rio has been wearing his ecollar for (on and off) about a week now, but it's never been turned on. Today we turn the collar on and introduce him to the stimulation.... BUT before I do that, Harold and I do a little session on ourselves.

    Using an ecollar properly is the ultimate communication tool with your dog. It does not involve shocking, scared or screaming dogs. It truly can be a lifesaver for many dogs. I've used ecollars on countless dogs and opened up a world of freedom, communication and opportunity for them.

      I saw a different video in which the instructor said not to turn off the vibration until the dog makes contact with their hand. Seems like a huge difference. That trainer did say that in the first few sessions, you need to reach out and touch the dog to get it to understand that contact with you ends the stimulation. Still, big difference between stimulation ending when it turns and starts returning and stimulation through the completion of the return.

      @ Jack Anthony . I use a Czeck made collar that has 40 levels and condition trained on level 1. I can't feel it all until it's in double numbers. Works on easy to buy batteries that last from 6 months to a year , depending on use. The less levels you have the harsher (for want of a better word ) the collar is. I use the Dog Trace Professional 1000. Hope this helps. I steered away from Sportdog because of the lack of levels.

    • @bruh-ItsTokyo
      @bruh-ItsTokyo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ther eis only one kind of e collar if your talking abt brand wise there is a ton of them, people confuse e collars with shock collars which is a HUGE difference and misunderstanding. Shock collars actually bring physical harm to the dog in order to listen whereas e collar is more of non stop vibration and some times if the dog does not care for the small stimulus you turn it up high so at that point the vibration is uncomfortable around the neck area.

    Question! So the end goal here is that when he feels the stimulation he turns back to you, no verbal command needed right? Cuz the stim is first and then he gets the command. So in the future do we want the dog to recall when he feels the stim or just pay attention? Trying to get this straight in my mind before I start! 😄 Would really appreciate clarification.

    One tip if I may. Spend several weeks putting the collar on the dog without using it, especially if you want to eventually work the dog without it. Otherwise they quickly work out when it's on and when it's not. Just sometimes putting it on around the house without using it even after initial training will further enhance that. My experience anyway.

    Hi, I'm new to your channel and wish I had known then what I know now. I bought a Belgian Malinois German Shepherd x from a breeder. I let my emotions get the best of me, so she became a family member. She trains very well. Shes now 6 months old. We also have an older dog, he is a boxer mix. They have bonded very well, but when they play, she gets too rough. She doesn't break skin, but he's got extra skin that she grabs and pulls.
