  • Samsung family hub with flex zone drawer refrigerator review
    Model number RF28R7551SR
    Manufactured September 2019
I went back and forth with all the different features for a bunch of fridges in the $2-3k range.
Features i loved about some of the newer fridges out there...
-flex zone drawer (was a must have for us)
-door in door feature (love this feature as well)
-Samsung’s family hub feature (the big giant tablet on the fridge)
-dual ice maker (one of the lg models have one with a craft ice maker!)
Ultimately I needed to decide which features were a must and which I would need to sacrifice since I couldn’t have it all 😭.
I opted for the one with a flex zone drawer and sacrificed the dual ice maker since you can’t have both.
I opted for the family hub which only Samsung has and sacrificed the door in door feature. (I was told by a Home Depot associate that the only FDA approved fridge to have milk in the door compartment was the Samsung one with the metal cooling feature in the door panel...he also mentioned that most of the new fridges nowadays are so energy efficient that the door in door feature that was designed to “not let all the cold air out” when opened was sort of a moot feature.
We bought the stainless steel version and saved $100 compared to the black and Tuscan color. We have kids that run around and aren’t the most careful and my understanding is the other 2 colors are just a film over the stainless steel that is plastered onto the fridge. I can just see my kids scratching it and the film eventually peeling.
So far I love the fridge and it definitely has a lot of space for most everything. I mentioned in the video that I wish there was a little more space for condiments and the little compartments on the left won’t fit most full size condiments or any condiments that are too tall so that’s the only bummer. The LG will have more space on the left hand side because of their slim ice maker design.
The family hub is obviously a very nice feature and there are tons of detailed reviews out there that goes into more specifics about every single app but for us the main apps I can see us using the most are
-the ring app (we have ring cameras and you can view them directly on the family hub)
-Calendar (can link to your google calendar on your phone and can add events from the fridge as well)
-Spotify (play music from your phone through the fridge)
-Whiteboard (mostly a fun drawing board for kids to doodle on)
-view inside fridge cameras (3 cameras inside the fridge to let you see what you have inside from the family hub and phone via family hub app)
All in all the family hub is very user friendly and easy to customize to your liking and everyday needs.
A nice thing I read is that Samsung has finally started rolling updates to some of the older model family hubs so they can have some of the new features that the updates have to offer which is good to know that you’re not locked into a version as tech gets newer and newer.
Hoping this fridge will last us a long time!
