I'm really glad that you reacted to Highlight / Beast (= B2ST)! I am personally partial to Beast songs (such as Shadow, Good Luck, 12:30, Ribbon) that I literally grew up hearing, but I really love the songs they've been coming back with since their military enlistment. They still maintain the spirit(?) of 2nd gen, while updating their arrangement to more trendy sounds in my opinion. I think you succeeded in identifying the members by the end (I think they have pretty distinct faces, so it was expected)! I've seen more of Dujun in dramas, but I've always loved his voice so much. He is mostly a vocal, who raps when necessary. Yoseop is definitely the main vocal. In recent songs, their lines are distributed pretty fairly, but in past songs, he was THE main vocal of the group, which I don't think is a bad thing at all. He is incredibly adept at utilising his voice, and basically, the man can SING. Kikwang is the main dancer and also a vocalist. I love his unique tone, and it brings a lovely lightness. Dongwoon is also a vocalist, and while I've always thought his voice was my favourite part when listening to Beast songs, he got so much better at singing nowadays. His tone has such a clarity that always brings my attention. I hope you continue diving into their discography, because there are so many gems! They also have a Killing Voice, which may give you an idea of the variety of sounds they have had.

I was not an official B2UTY, nor a Light, so I'm just speaking from the view of a casual listener of their music. But, I was there in the kpop scene when the transition to the new group and scandals happened. From what I know, it wasn't necessarily that Jang Hyunseung wanted to remain in Cube, in fact he left the group before B2ST's official contracts ended. I won't say much, because I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but I just think he was going through emotional hardships during that time, and he looks so much happier and healthier nowadays. He is a great vocalist and dancer, and I think he's an amazing performer. I recently watched back some of his Trouble Maker stages recently, and he's really amazing in them.
As for Yong Junhyung, yes, he was the main rapper, and I won't deny that he was a good musician. So many of my favourite Beast and Highlight songs and albums were produced/written by him(he was also their main producer for some time), and I think he has great skill, but I do not care for him at all as a person.
Hahahaha, I loved that video. We went through a lot of phases with Junhyung hahahaha. I don't think it should be this hard because of him. I'm a fan of Highlight/Beast since I was 13, now I'm 23. It's been 10 years and Junhyung was my bias since the first moment. There are a lot of reasons why; he made a lot of BEAST songs, he was very talented, and I always loved just the way he is. The Burning Sun scandal is not the same as the group chat. He wasn't in that group chat JJY sent him a video. I'm not able to verify that, but he says it didn't appear to be a non-consensual video. However, I still don't support sending or spreading videos like that. I'm just saying people should blame him for what he exactly did. It was hard knowing that happened when I was a fan for a very long time. I don't support what he did, but I still believe that shouldn't affect the other members that way. Just what happened here, saying something not very kind to other members just because you didn't recognize him, you know? Thank you very much for reacting to them. I think you'll like all the other releases. You can start from 'The Blowing,' Junyun wasn't there by that time (2022).
well, yo can hate him or boycott, it is your opinion yet he is talented as hell and that is the truth. it is ok to compliment his work though. i clearly separate all categories. to me i still support him continue doing music.

Glad you are enjoying Highlight! I agree with other comments that their Killing Voice, done right after the 4 came back from military service, is a lot of fun. You might also like their last comeback, Alone. And the whole Switch On album is fun, not just Body
These guys are the kings of live performance, BTW - so much so that everyone except Gikwang dances with hand mics. You can catch the four doing their old and new songs on stage in the very well made fan videos by Highlight Nunafans or for the past year on Highlight’s official channel. They were performing Good Luck last year.
omg thank you so much for the reaction, this is so exciting since i've loved your reactions since forever! like others have said, i highly recommend watching their killing voice cuz it's such a great showcase of their discography and their fun personalities
as for other recommendations if you're interested (kinda based on your faves here):
- can be better (highlight era, most similar to 'plz don't be sad' in vibes)
- not the end (first tt after military era, gikwang produced it!)
- loved (highlight era, my personal fave, emotional synths)
- alone (highlight era, darker suave concept with a lotta bass)
- shock (beast era, edm and gives off kinda similar vibes to 'good luck')
- shadow (beast era, more melodic angst so perhaps more in line with the vibes of 'fiction')
as for junhyung, i hope his presence in past songs doesn't discourage you from checking the group out more
i started stanning them after he already left, so while i think he's a taleneted musician, i don't care for him as a person at all

Hey, just found your channel for the first time. Listen, Junhyung was my ultimate bias for almost 10 years when the news dropped. Since then it's hard to listen to Beast's older songs without mixed sensations, so whatever you're feeling, it's okay. In the end I hope you get to enjoy their songs as much as I used to ❤.
I'm happy you gave BEAST/Highlight a chance regardless of your feelings about Junhyung. They are an amazing group still, one of those underdogs who rose to the top only thanks to hard work. It was them who put Cube on the radar and made them money. They have so many amazing tunes. And I swear Good Luck is the most slept on banger by kpop stans. Like it's THE song that solidified me as a kpop fan. In 2014 people were going crazy over EXO disregarding most other groups which is sad (no shade to EXO, love them and Overdose remains one of my faves). At least Billboard appreciated Good Luck and named it best kpop song of 2014.
I totally understand your very valid feelings about JH, I don't care for him as an artist or person anymore for various reasons. For now most of their songs have him as they only have had 4 cbs as a four members group so just kind of ignoring his presence might be the best if you go back on some of their Beast era songs at one point.
Body is such a fun goofy bop, in the same vein as Plz Don't Be Sad and another one of their songs from 2017 called Can Be Better.
Would definitely recommend their Killing Voice like the others, it'll end before you even realize. All of their songs both title track and album songs have the easy to listen addictive vibe without feeling generic. I've seen people over the years describe their musi as movie soundtrack songs and I think it fits so well!
They still perform their old Beast songs in concerts and events though they have kind of transitioned to putting a lot of Gikwang written songs in the setlists (they were never title tracks but he has quite a few under his belt). I wish they would use his songs as tt more, only Not The End is a song he wrote and produced. But as they vote on the title track with their staff after recording is finished, democracy wins 😂

It's fine to say you liked his rapping, yes he was a shitty person but his talent in music is undeniable. Also fun fact 3/4 of these songs that you reacted to was written/produced by Junhyung.
As far as I know he was not part of any group chat related to the scandal and he recorded/sent nothing, that's why he's still a free man for now. But it's definitely shitty of him not standing up against jjy when he was sent the video.

I'm not defending him and there's so many layers to it but I would just like to inform you that Junhyung is not part of the B*rning Sun. Maybe in reacting with groups with issues, if you won't research further, you can just put a disclaimer at the beginning that your reaction is just purely based on the music, talents, visuals, MV etc. It's just a suggestion, you don't have to follow it. I just think it would be more enjoyable that way and more comfortable for you because after watching your video, I felt like half of it is about Junhyung 😅
Nevertheless, thank you for checking out Highlight. They can still sing their Beast songs because it's up to the composers to let them sing or not. Their albums as Beast are mainly produced and composed by Shinsadong Tiger (🕊️) and Junhyung so they don't have to worry about that.
He saw the group chats in all their gory details and said he thought they weren‘t a big deal, as I said at the beginning of the video. I know exactly what he did, to me that makes him a part of the scandal
And as I said I also was aware that I was like… hyper aware of him. But I don‘t really know how to avoid that? Cause I can tell you he was the one who grabbed my attention the most in the first 3 videos cause I have a rapper thing and he‘s a pretty good rapper. Which made all of this a bit weird for me. Putting a disclaimer wouldn‘t have… undone that?
Because I can‘t take knowledge like that out of my brain. I can‘t just be there for vibes and forget about one of them being what I would call kind of a horrible person.

@@merksmirs I'm sorry but he didn't see the group chat. He was not part of it. He was edited on it by the reporter. There was just a consented video that was sent to him on a one on one chat by JJY. You can hate him for receiving that one consented video and thinking of it as not a big deal, but be careful of the details you say or write online.
You're entitled to all your feelings so please feel free to do or react with it. If my suggestion won't work for you, that would be fine.

There were many wrong articles about what happened because of how chaos the situation was, from 2 separate cases happened at the same time Burning Sun and JJY Molka chats. The final police reports stated that the video sent to him was a video of JJY touching his girlfriend at the time. The action was consensual, the filming was consensual, the girl knew JJY was filming them. What was not consented was the distribution of that particular video.
Just a little reminder how evil media could be. Especially because higher up and chaebol were involved in 2019 cases, there were already proofs that they paid the media and reporters to create fake news to averted the attention from themselves
