Shoutout to user @heasmeus7244 for the request. This was my first time hearing Highlight so this request was another introduction to a new group for me with the channel! These guys were a ton of fun and very talented. I hope you all enjoy them as well!

Highlight is originally named Beast, which debuted in 2009. Beast was one of the top Kpop groups from the 2nd generation, and they competed with Super Junior and Big Bang. They didn’t renew with their old agency when their contract ended in 2016. They established their own agency, but since their old agency owned the trademark “Beast”, they changed their name to Highlight (the title of their last album as Beast) and “debuted” anew as Highlight in 2017 with “Pls Don’t Be Sad” (the first banger they sang here on Killing Voice), which became a smash hit, achieving the most successful rebranding in Kpop history.
That's awesome! Thank you for the info... and yea, I'd say the rebranding was a success. The only rebranding I can think of, which occurred under different circumstances, was when Minx rebranded to Dreamcatcher. A big success but not necessarily a commerical one. Awesome to hear Beast to Highlight came with results :)

“Just wow!” Yes, “that little man” really has a powerful voice. He’s Yang Yoseob, probably the best Koop idol group main vocalist. He may be petite but he ROARS!

They're one of two older groups I stan (and still stan) in K-pop, they mostly write their own songs and even the rappers can sing beautifully ❤ Their first formation were formerly six members, one lead vocal and one main rapper + songwriter left group due to some problems.
Left to right: Doojoon (leader, lead vocal), Yoseob (main vocal), Gikwang (lead vocal, main dancer), and Dongwoon (lead vocal, maknae).

They're all great but Yoseob has a special voice ❤️ it's always sad when a group loses members because it feels like they're not the same (to the fans who were there all along at least) but I am really happy to see that this group is still going and can still be amazing with 4! I personally have never been in the position where one of my groups kept going after losing a member since I came into GIDLE after Soojin was already gone and Le Sserafim after Garam was already gone.... but if reports are true, I might have to experience that weirdness with kep1er soon. Thank you so much for reacting to Highlight/Beast. They were my first ever ult group. Okay, so it is kind of fitting that you mentioned BTOB. Beast was a group that was formed under Cube ent. and was the senior group of BTOB. When their contracts expired they left Cube (except for one member who left the group) and formed their own company. They ended up having to re-debut under a new name as Cube would not give them the rights to Beast and chose Highlight as their name in honour of the title of their last Beast album. This killing voice was done right during COVID, after the release of their first album in years as they had all gone to do military service and had also lost another member. So it was Their first album with only 4 members. They are still active and have put out several albums since this was filmed. The main vocalist Yang Yoseob is arguably one of the best vocalists in kpop. He holds the record for the highest number of wins by an idol singer on King of the masked singer and the second highest amount of wins over all for men on the show.

Always good to see you my friend :) I had no idea that they were BTOB's seniors but it's funny because when I was looking up their official color and font to try and make my thumbnail, I saw that they had formerly been under Cube. My first thought was "geez, everyone was 'formerly under Cube'" I sweat that company has had some of the most talented artists and fumbles the bag nearly every time.
Now the story is all coming together in terms of the leaving and reforming etc. I had a feeling that's what happened but was pretty confused. Thanks for the info! Also, Yoseob, is that my dude second from the left with the crazy breath control? That's awesome!

Thanks for checking out Highlight! They debuted in 2009 as Beast (the group name changed in 2017 when they changed labels). The young-looking member (2nd from the left) was 31 in this video, and he's actually the second oldest 🤣. That's Yoseob - one of the best vocalists in kpop, in my opinion. The maknae is Dongwoon on the far right. Far left is Doojoon (leader) and 2nd from the right is Gikwang (main dancer). Hope you check out some of their music - Fiction is a truly iconic kpop song. Not the End was a meaningful long-awaited comeback in 2021.

To help you with the confusion, they debuted as Beast in 2009 (Cube) and had to change their name to Highlight in 2017 (their own company Around Us) due to copyrights issues with Cube (aka Cube being Cube).
I like how you talk about how one can try their music to start listening to ballads. Their signature sound imo is how the song is story-telling, melancholic and upbeat at the same time (sometimes I think of it as an emo nightclub lmao). Their ballads are actually top-notch and have topped the charts many times without any promotions.

Thanks for the info! Cube is...I just don't understand how they've had some of the best artists to ever do it and manage to fumble every time. Hyuna, BTOB, Beast, CLC, GIDLE (cause we all know they're leaving lol), Pentagon, etc... hit after hit after hit and somehow still on the brink of total collapse. This really should be studied someday lol.
@@JeffReacts12 ikr Cube is really good at self-sabotaging and I'm proud to say that I will forever be bitter and frustrated when talking about them
@criariver as well you should. Part of me wants them to collapse so bad but part of me would be sad because they have been finding such great talent so we might miss some good ones if they fold.
Nobody mentioned in the comments really but they are still very much active! They are releasing a new mini on Monday (March 11th). As you've noticed they were very famous when they were known as Beast for hitting the dance ballad genre in most of their title tracks.
Little man (Yoseob/Yoseop) really has an amazing voice, having gone to their concerts they genuinely sound exactly the same as they do here. He released a full length album in 2021 - title track Brain - that I'd recommend you give a listen to, he's amazing.
Also they have a live video of Beautiful from their fancon last November on their official channel, it is such a nice and bubbly vibes song indeed! It was quite famous in the later second gen years I'm pretty sure anyone who was around kpop at that time knows it 😂

@@JeffReacts12 haha you don't necessarily have to react to his solo songs, just listen to them on your free time if you want. His first one was a while ago (2012) and called Caffeine, it was a big hit in SK. Then Where I Am Gone in 2018. He also has a famous duet with Eunji from Apink called Love Day (aka battle of the high notes day)
The other one you liked the voice of, Dongwoon, also has a few solo albums, the latest one is an EP he released for his birthday in 2022, the title track is called Today's Weather. Oh and he got married last September 😊🎉

The boys of Highlight debuted in 2009 known as BEAST and were an iconic and highly recognized group of their generation.
After parting ways with their former agency, they were unable to have their brand, so they decided to create a company and redebut under the name of their last album as Beast (Highlight) in 2017.
After all the members completed their military service, they returned with Not The End, which is the last song in the video. They are still active and all the members have a solo album/single! Since the day Killing Voice came out until now they have made a group comeback with Daydream and a few months ago they released a single titled Give You My All.
They re-debuted as Highlight but without one of their members, and after the debut one more left. The four current members (from left to right and they're in age order):
- Doojoon: Leader, rapper and vocalist
- Yoseob: (baby face but actually one of the oldest 🤭) main vocalist and musical actor
- Gikwang: Main dancer, vocalist and producer
- Dongwoon: maknae, rapper, vocalist
I highly recommend the discography of both Beast and Highlight 🥰

I see that you're diving into all my favourite groups from 2nd/3rd gen on killing voice like Btob, infinite and now Highlight! I'm glad you're enjoying them 🥰 I think you'd really like B1A4's killing voice. They are the same age as all these groups and have amazing vocals while being silly and unserious too.
Haha it's funny because these keep being requested. I originally didn't have much interest in the older groups but now, through these requests, I'm getting to experience them more and see how great some were/are! I don’t usually comment on reaction videos but I had to let you know that I really appreciate your thoughtful commentary throughout the reaction. You paid attention to what the members were saying, listening but also reading the lyrics, and even noticed their little gestures. As a massive fan from even before their debut, thank you for your reaction. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would also love to recommend listening to more of their songs. As a reactor, I know your plate must be full of things to react and listen to, but oh boy you are in for a treat with Beast/Highlight. I can confidently say they do not have a single bad song and unless you’re in a very specific mood or vibe, all their albums are no skip. I love how you described your interpretation of their music. I always sort of thought of them as emo kpop because many of their lyrics are so emotional and poetic, even for the upbeat songs. But I’ve written a long enough essay, and won’t keep you too long. Hope you’ll discover more from them when you have the time. Thanks again!

As for requests, I have the guidelines listed in the description but basically, as long as it's not a live stage and it's under 30min, I take one request per person. I'm about 4 months behind on requests though so keep that in mind haha. I’m very thank you for reaction to HIGHlIGHT’s Killing Voice. They debuted BEAST when 2009 and now they still active HIGHLIGHT. They were in Cube ent. and then when they left the ent., Cube didn’t give their name so they changed group name..😢 But they still active not the end, so I’m very biggest fan of them and I’m proud of them. They were the first K-pop group to win the grand prize of the year, even though they were not in big ent. When they debuted in Cube ent., that ent. was just opened so It can be said that the BEAST raised the ent. and created the current ent. where several idols belong.
In Killing Voice video, on the second left who has curly hair name is YoSeop. He is the best Kpop vocalist even not in Idol. Because many Korean artist said he is really awesome vocalist. And when he went to a singing contest, he won eight consecutive championships. If you want to listen and watch more their songs, I recommend to watch the music video or stage, It’s a new song, “BODY”. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the song. Haha yea this channel introduced me to BTOB and they're so good too! That's really cool that these guys were basically the older brother to BTOB. I've heard people call GIDLE the daughters of BTOB too lol. Like a whole Cube family tree of groups that Cube managed to make unhappy lol
Their previous group name is B2ST/beast, and they used to have 6 members (if I remember it correctly). They're one of my favorite kpop groups too actually. They debuted with a new group name, HIGHLIGHT when they left their company. Not sure about the other details, but I hope this helps... 🙂

They originally debuted in October 2009 (Doojoon, Yoseop, Gikwang, Dongwoon. The previous members are Junhyung, and Hyunseung) Their leader is Doojoon, the guy in the far left and their maknae is Dongwoon, the guy in the far right.

@JangDongWoo22 haha that's awesome! That reminds me of me with the first Japanese song I ever learned. "First Love" from Utada Hikaru. I learned it in passing in college. Do I know Japanese? No. Do I remember the words, sing along, and sometimes tear up with it when it plays? Yup lol. They actually just did it on the show Produce 101 Japan and I remembered it all over again. Not quite the same as you but similar feeling of tapping into deep memories :)

Yoseob (baby face) is an amazing vocalist Dongwoon (jean jacket) for me sounds classic but i prefer Dojoon (cardigan) over all of em his tone!! Also Gikwangs (dancer)
I think 3/4 if not all do live musical never attended but from footage they are amazing
I would say they all are MAIN vocalists but Yoseob takes the cake
