After they left Cube ent. They established their own company which is Around Us Ent, they are now the CEOs of it. Also their first song as Highlight is "Plz Don't Be Sad". Check it out too! It's a good song

Beast/Highlight main vocalist Yang Yoseob is one of the most respected 2nd generation vocalist. He has high range and very very good tone
Not the end is their 5th comeback as Highlight I would say. But it happened after 3 year hiatus caused by their military enlistment. The title is a message to fans: after all this time, they are still here, it's not the end.

Someone already commented, but just wanted to add that they left Cube in 2016 after their contracts ended. Their name was trademarked by Cube, which is why they couldn't keep the name "Beast" when starting their own company. Hence, them rebranding as Highlight. Highlight was also the name of their last album under Cube. Before leaving Beast, one of the memebers (Hyunseung, who was also in the duo Troublemaker with Hyuna [you should really check their music out because they were iconic]) left the group, and their last comeback under Cube was right after Hyunseung left the group. He's still under Cube. Then in 2019, Junhyung left the group because of a scandal (just look his name up), so now there are only 4 members of Highlight left, which are Gikwang, Yoseob, Doojoon, and Dongwoon
They didn’t “lose”, there was no “legal battle”. What happened was that they didn’t renew with Cube in October 2016 and they formed their own agency Around Us Entertainment but found out Cube had trademarked “Beast. So they tried to negotiate with Cube. But when Cube announced in early 2017 it was reviving Beast via the remaining former member, Hyunseung (who resigned from Beast on their last year and renewed with Cube) and perhaps adding new recruits, the guys stopped the negotiations and renamed themselves “Highlight,” which was the title of their last album as Beast with Cube. They “debuted” as Highlight in March 2017 with “Plz Don’t Be Sad” and achieved the most successful rebranding in Kpop history.

BEAST has a bunch of amazing songs before Fiction, but Fiction was the song that really put them on the map in a whole new way. with that super casual but addicting choreo and emotional quality, it won the Song of the Year in 2011 AND BEAST won Artist of the Year, so it was a really crazy amazing time for them
some of my favorite songs by them were Shock and Breathe - those are a lot more intense choreography-wise, though they also are somewhat desaturated haha. I think it's just going along with their theme for those MVs though
they definitely are recognized for their vocals also. their current main vocalist, Yoseob, has some of the craziest vocals in the industry. super powerful and talented. in Breathe he has one of the most insane sustained long notes I've ever heard lol apparently at concerts he's tried to make it longer every time he sings it so that's saying something haha
They indeed are quite known for flawless vocals. A Cube staple you could say lol. They started it. They are up there with SHINee & Infinite for AMAZING lives.
If we talk about 2gen then 2pm can't be forgotten
Man, “Fiction” was huge when it was released. The Asian American communities that listened to Kpop, “Fiction” was playing everywhere haha. I to this day still love that song.
Just an interesting tidbit, B2ST was referred to as a “recycled group” because many members had appeared in other companies and their reality shows (before it became the norm). Former member Hyunseung was a trainee in YG and competed in Big Bang Documentary to form Big Bang. Doo Joon was a trainee in JYP and competed in Hot Blooded Men, the show that formed 2PM and 2AM. Junhyung was in a former group (idk remember the name) and Kikwang was a solo artist under the name AJ.
Also yes, they are known for their vocals just like their former little brother group BtoB. Funny enough, B2ST had released a digital single before one of their official comebacks, and their digital single was a ballad called “On Rainy Days,” that song ended up charting better than their official comeback track haha. I remember them talking how surprised they were that it turned out that way.
Man sorry for the wall of text, but B2ST/Highlight was second ult bias group in Kpop after Big Bang haha. Because they are before the BTS wave, they are little known internationally. However, they are huge domestically in South Korea which is good enough for me.
Omg... Beast/Highlight is my fave 2nd gen!! All their songs are gems.. and they trully have a long hard journey but still stick together.. i'm so proud of them T^T
I think 2nd gen is still the best era for me.. alot of good songs with different genre/style...

Beast has one of the most talented ones and good discography. I can still sing and dance to fiction and their other stuff. That is how their songs can linger to your mind for years. Iconic 🙌🏼

Highlight is more popular with their ballads and live performances. I hope you can try 12:30, Butterfly, Ribbon when they were still Beast. As Highlight, they released lighter and fun songs like Pls Don't Be Sad, Calling U and Can Be Better. You can also listen to their ballads as Highlight It's Still Beautiful and Take Care. Loved is also underrated. They honestly got tons of hit songs I can go longer recommending since their pre-releases and B-sides are also well-loved.

These boys are super talented and really popular in Korea but at the same time underrated and overlooked by new kpop fans. Their discography is amazing. Even their B sides are great. They have faced a lot of struggles but still stay strong.

Beast debuted in 2009 under Cube, and many media critics were skeptical that they could succeed, since pretty much all 6 members had debuted somewhere else before. However, they quickly rose to fame and helped launch Cube's name as an agency (alongside 4Minute). In 2016, one member left the group, and unfortunately when the remaining members decided to leave Cube they could no longer promote under the name "Beast" as it was trademarked by Cube, so they rebranded to Highlight. And they actually went and formed their own agency, Around Us Entertainment ;o "Not the End" was their first release in 2.5 years after the members went to the military, and their rapper also left the group during that hiatus due to being caught up in some of the chatroom scandals... So it's a meaningful release as it's "not the end" of Highlight :')
Oh speaking of orchestral accompaniment, a group to check out is Boyfriend, they're from Starship and debuted in 2011 (and actually just released a special 10th-anniversary single!) and a lot of their earlier tracks, like "Don't Touch My Girl", "Janus", and "I Yah" have that orchestral sound! :D

Also, the older bg MVs tend to be desaturated when the theme is supposed to be sad. There are quite vibrant bg videos, trust me lol the comeback after Fiction aka Beautiful Night is SUPER colorful.

You talked about the orchestra intro and outro for Fiction, so I just wanted to say that there's actually an entire version of Fiction with just the orchestra instrumental as background (it was the last track on their "Fiction and Fact" album :) )
Thanks for your reaction on Beast/Highlight! As explained in the other comments, they went through a lot during their Cube time and after, but they're still holding strong and seem really happy about being able to do whatever they want to do now. They're also a lot more active (if you don't count the mandatory military break^^) as solo artists or group, so it's nice!
Beast is my first kpop idol group. I start love them when im 12 years old AHHAHA and now im 23 years old.

Beast's album, "Highlight" (the album they are now named after, their last release as Beast) is probably my favorite kpop album ever...maybe tied with Big Bang's MADE which are completely different albums. haha

"It's 2021. Still no captions. Haven't you learned anything Highlight?" - This made me laugh so much. 🤣 We international fans keep asking these uncles to put captions in their official channel. To be fair usually the mv released in 1thek channel has English subs. But this time around something happened. They put captions on the suit dance version of the same song but not in the mv.
They are still really famous in Korea, most of their songs as Beast were huge hits (b-sides included) and as they were the first group out of a small company to win End of the Year award shows (with fiction haha) against groups from the Big 3 they have been role models for a lot of 3rd & 4th gen groups. Including BTS and Seventeen who are definitely fanboys, there are a lot of other idols who love them though. They are also 100% a national meme group (Jessie's Showterview and MMTG interview for this comeback look back on their career, I'd recommend watching on your free time solely for the chaos).
The current members are famous in their own rights, two are actors and very active in the soccer world (pro level), the other two do musicals, and their main vocal (Yoseob) was also a judge on The Voice Kids Korea. He can go from very high notes to a raspy rock-like voice (Beautiful Night is a good example).
The member who left in 2019 was their songwriter and producer so for this album Gikwang (the guy with gray hair in the MV, main dancer) wrote the songs of the album with the help of producers and also thought of the choreography. They've been through a lot, the fact that they are going on just shows how much they love being performers.
Nope (not the end) isn't their first cb as highlight they released other albums/songs under highlight name & yes they did lose some members due to issues. fiction is one the most iconic 2nd gen groups song and a good choice as an intro to the group. yes highlight members are known for their great vocals and live performances and one of the most beloved and praised 2nd gen boy groups along with shinee, 2pm and infinite
Another thing is yes a lot of mvs do tend desaturated but that happens when the theme was supposed to be sad or edgy but there are many colorful boy groups mvs, and back then till even early 3rd gen the mvs weren't really important to be aesthetically pleasing with a lot of visuals because the trend in the music scene (everywhere) back then didn't have that & because the mv views weren't that important for music shows wins or for attracting newer fans because the popularity a lot of 2nd gen got wasn't because of the mvs but more because how great their live performances & how great vocally they are along with the choreos of course and there wasn't really a competition between who had better mv like how it's now with 4th gen
a tip of sorts: just because some mvs have a large number of views it doesn't mean that these songs or mvs are representative of these groups music because there are mvs that don't reflect on some groups music at all but the mvs were just popular then

Seventeen admires Beast/Highlight and consider them their role model. Woozi, who composed Don’t Wanna Cry, is often compared to Yoseob because they both look cute. In fact Woozi has performed a cover of Yoseob’s Look at Me Now. And they crazy about football.
i love these boys so much! their music is always so good and each one of them is so talented! Gi kwang is known as one of the best dancers in kpop and yoseob recently had 8 consecutive wins at masked singer, they are legends! u should check out their BEAUTIFUL NIGHT, it was the biggest hit in korea when they came out with it, they have so many other great songs too, plz dont be sad, calling you, 12:30, ribbon, i could go on for days... thanks alot for checking them out, i love when u react to this gen kpop cuz thats all ive listened to growing up
Wow, I was not expecting you to react to this! Fiction is my favorite boy group song ever. So catchy and viral at the time. The song really reaches a different level when you check out the lyrics, they really tell a sad story even if it is all "fiction".

They originally had 6 members (BEAST) and now 4 (HIGHLIGHT). formerly with CUBE but currently with Around Us Entertainment which is actually managed by themselves. They are the CEOs. The Blowing is not the first song as HIGHLIGHT. it is the first members reuniting after completing their military duties.

I also recommend the Killing Voice video! they were the first male group to participate in the Killing Voice because he had numerous hit songs.

After leaving cube they made their own entertainment company "AROUND US". They started as HIGHLIGHT with 5 members (originally beast had 6member). 2019 they were enlisted to mandatory military service one after another... Also young junhyung (rapper and mainsong writer) left the group deu to some issues.
2021 all of they made comeback after getting back from military service now they have 4members. Well that's the summery of them. Well I am a Beauty and now light will always support the members wherever they are. Thanks for the reaction. They are really a great group.

Oh my gosh the Fiction craze was INSANE when it came out, no lie. I'd say it's most definitely a 2nd gen classic. I can't remember how many times I watched the MV and watched performances of it. Their lives are super stable. Other people already mentioned who left the group and HyunSeung was my bias before he left so now it's like, maybe the only group where I don't have a bias even if I've known them for years b/c I can't decide from who's left lol. They're all amazingly talented. I think you'd enjoy Beautiful Night by them a lot. And maybe "12:30." That's a fan favorite.

I’ve listened to kpop since 2007, and i can guarantee that Beast/Highlight owns their own genre. I’ve been a fan since their debut, and their music after 2009 have been so consistently good!! They’re so versatile but you know it’s them just by listening to the first seconds of their songs. Their whole discographies are realllly strong and they’re great dancers, too. (These days i think only the band Hoppipolla manage to make two no-skip albums in a row - i highly recommended you to react to their albums Spring to Spring and And then There Was Us)
My all time favourite from them: fiction, shadow, 12:30, good luck, sleep tight, oasis, on rainy days... i’ll have to stop before i end up listing all of their songs haha

Fiction and Fact is the name of their album! And that album is THE album! All their songs are amazing but the songs in that album is a no skip! Plus, you mentioned that that you liked the instrumental for Fiction, you'd really like the orchestra version of Fiction! And yea they are known for their vocals. I've been a fan for a decade and i'm also grateful because i get to know MAMAMOO from them. Back in 2014 iirc they were being interviewed about rookie idol they think have great potential, one member answer was MAMAMOO. Long short story i found my ultimate favorite boy and girlgroup❤❤❤ i'm a sucker for their vocals👌🏻

“Fiction” has an orchestral version right in the “Fiction and Fact” album of 2011 (one of the best Kpop albums of all time!). And Beast/Highlight performed that version with the pianist Lang Lang in the 2011 MAMA. The performance was legendary, easily one of the greatest performances ever in MAMA.
