Do you mean *this* video, where the lit part of his face looks sharp but the shadow side looks soft? Or do you mean the anamorphic iPhone footage where it first looks little different to normal until he processes it?
Really excellent video and well explained. You kept me watching until the end. Having shot years on full frame/MFT the time has really come where I want to switch to using an iPhone. I never thought I would have said that!
I think real world use of an iPhone is a mixed bag. Sometimes it looks amazing, other times it looks like sh*t. Which is probably why just about all TH-camrs who sing the praises of the iPhone ACTUALLY shoot their videos using a DSLR or mirrorless camera. My take on it anyway. 😅
I appreciate this video as someone who has a Fuji XT3, But also travel with a family of 5 sometimes I can't justify carrying the Fuji, 2 lenses & a Drone. I have been using anamorphic on my I phone 12 Pro max and even though as you stated sometimes you don't get that flare, I'm fine with it because for some reason I find Using Filmic Pro using the 10 Bit you get a much superior video than not...for essentially a phone in your pocket and a lens that screws on.
What are your thoughts on anamorphic lenses for the iPhone 14 pro? I’ve read a lot of feedback talking about vignetting and other issues now that the iPhone sensors have increased - do you have any recommendations on which lenses don’t have these issues? I was set on the moment anamorphic until I heard all the backlash they’ve been receiving recently.
The ports being open with this on is huge for me.I bought the Smallrig and loved it, until I bought a Zoom IQ7 external mic that plugs into the lightening port. The Smallrig cage doesn’t allow the mic to plug in, but this cage having the ports more open, I can plug in my mic.
oooo nice! I bet that would be fine. The issue with IBIS is the phones sensor and lens is moving not in unison with the exterior lens plus since its squeezed it all just creates a mess. but any time ive taken anamorphic mobile footage and stabilized in a post production software its acted like any other footage. no insane wiggle issues.
Footage looks amazing! Just bought the same lens as well as the universal Beastgrip phone rig. My setup as follows: iPhone 12pro max, Beastgrip anamorphic lense, Beastgrip universal rig, tripod, lightning to hdmi/lightning adaptor, Rode Wireless go 2 w/lavalier mic, Feelworld fw568 field monitor. Hoping to get DSLR like performance without having to drop another $2k+ in camera equipment.
@@OnlyThe1Son The anamorphic lens is good, HOWEVER if you plan on filming (TH-cam, podcasts, professional video) and having a good setup I would say just go ahead and get a DSLR mirrorless. WAY less hassle shooting video, transferring video files, syncing with remotes, etc. Its not worth the money.
@@OnlyThe1Son Just get a Go-pro for that. You probably don't want to be carrying a $5000-$8000 dollar kit in other countries. DSLR cameras also aren't the lightest.

Hi Michael tks for your explaining not to use the BeastCam stablilization i want to. He k if we use the anamorphic Lens did we Need edit the video because i Don’t have a computer only LumaFusion on my iPad tks hope you can give an advice i appreciate yr feedback.tks you
Have you done any tests to see if it makes a quality difference de-squeezing the footage in FCPX or with Beastcam app before importing? I would like to get the anamorphic lens for my iPhone14pro (4k, ProRes, Beastcam app) and do all video editing in FCPX.
Hey thanks for All your expertise and info on these matters. Will there be a way to log gyrodate in the beastgrip app to stabilize the footage in gyroflow? Thanks for your help.
Thanks! Good info for a newbie. Do you typically shoot your footage with an ND filter or do you also add that in post? Also, was the Vancouver footage of you walking filmed on the iphone? Was this video filmed on iphone with the anamorphic lens?
I’m filmic pro it has an option for me to choose the anamorphic crop..what’s the difference between that and using a dedicated lens for it? It looks like anamorphic but I’m almost certain it’s not.
It kind of looks like it, but if you really compare the image: you will see that the verticals are shorter, and you’re not gaining the extra width that you would with the lens on.
What insane timing, i just got a small rig cage and moment anamorphic lens (blue flare) for my birthday gift, thank you for making these videos what are the odds😅 Best birthday gift ever🎉 Thank you for everything Much love from Vancouver Canada ❤ Ps. So if I’m filming on a gimbal can I turn off stabilization on filmic pro, I’m so excited 😮
ayeee thats awesome! Enjoy your new gear! So much fun filming anamorphic! and yeah turn off stabilization no matter the app youre using! youll get the best results!
@@initialfocus thank you so much! Do you prefer using the cage or clip or case and how do you get those filters on there man I learn so much from you I just wanted to thank you 🙏
I am confused because saw a video where photographer said a person with anamorphic on their iPhone took video and played it back which means no post uncompressed is this possible ?
chanced upon a video shot by someone on youtube, without any lenses and still be able to get the cinematic look,. so why use anamorphic lens or buy such a case/rig spending 100's of $$ when you are able to do it without all this..
No, you are not able "to do it without all this." Unless you are doing a silent movie and manage by magic to set a proper ISO and shutter to create a cinematic look without the use of a ND filter. Otherwise you do need a cage where you can attach a ND filter and an external microphone. You will also need a light on the top of a cage if you are shooting indoors. Even if you use Freewell's case and filter you will still need a cage or at least a handle attached to an iPhone holder where you can attach a mic on the top. I am sure everybody who read your comment will be curious about the video you mentioned. Could you please put the link in a reply?
Why is the video high quality and low quality at the same time

Traveling with a family is the exact reason why I love that combo. Just released a new video on that exact issue 😂
Over 5,000 views and only 210 likes? This is criminally underrated nice vod.
because he show his face more than the footage example

Nice! About to try an anamorphic setup on the Mavic 3. Curious, could you use a gyro logging app and Gyroflow to stabilize?

Thinking about getting an Anamorphic lens. Thank you for the video and all the info
Can you take photos with the anamorphic lens? How would the desqueeze work?
How can I get your look videos and colors from my iPhone ?😢
Bro this video just changed my lyfe
I got Ulanzi 1.55x and horizontal bokeh is ruining it.
On any phone, manual long press locks focus and exposure, to see the background blur.

Thanks Michael. I have the same lens and am curious what ProRes settings you use in the BeastCam app? The files are so large.
I’m guessing when you buy the lens it don’t come with the grip
I hope someone answers
Correct, you would have to buy the grip separately, so sorry for the delayed response
does the MK2 only work on the main and tele lens?
Does it also work on the wide lens or does it vignette?

Question: Meaning that should we use an anamorhpic lens, we must always have an app to "correct" the image?
Great short tutorial man! Cheers!
Great video, so well shot, thanks for sharing!
What’s the iPhone app?
Have you compared 1.33 v 1.55 yet … which would be better and why ? About to buy one or the other and your input may be the dicing factor.. :)
Does Beastcam app still work with a different lens brand?

How do you know if the anamorphic lens frame is square ?

Can you make a video about Mcpro24fps camera app.
Thanks
Ok but will this work on iPhone 12 Pro?
Can the beastcam app work with other brands of anamorphic lens?
Yup! You just choose between 1.33x or 1.55x. Pretty standard anamorphic squeezes
