Exact information I was hoping to find. Thanks! (BTW, also just watched your most recent video and it reminded me of a horror story I heard about a radial arm saw. You seem to still be recovering from the trauma of your power tool accident, so I won’t share any details. As an avid viewer who is always “informed and entertained“ by your productions, please don’t let the critics dampen your spirit. Best wishes for a speedy and complete healing process. You deserve it my friend...)
Dawn dishwashing liquid and water is great for cleaning router bits and saw blades. Cheap, easy, and safe. Put water in a container, a squirt of Dawn, stir. Submerge bits or blades. In a few minutes the deposits will loosen and what still remains can be removed easily with a toothbrush. Remember to remove bearings from router bits first as the Dawn will strip the lubricant from the bearing.
What to do when you go over your bit 10 times and can see it only ground on spots of the carbide, lots of low spots the grind marks never came close to the cutting edge.
One counterpoint to the problem of changing dimensions from sharpening is that some router bits can be used for purposes that don't need to be a specific size, like a router bit that's used to flatten slabs. I've got a good stockpile of various bits that are suitable for flattening, but not their original purpose.
@@adamjonkie5601Okay, 3 years later and I wonder why I had to bring this up. My guess is it was at night and I had one too many adult beverages, I tend to get a bit chatty.
Just an observation, every demo vid shows a chap like you in a workshop like yours with a range of beautiful tools like yours in the back ground. But my sceptical side wonders if it’s genuine or a studio set with only one wall made to look authentic. Any chance of a 360 and a sight of some of your jobs???

good for you, if you are loaded good.,not all of us hardworking chippies are.i was not slagging trend off if you read my comment again i was praising trend for high quality.
I had been using vinegar but found it way too aggressive and use "Windex" window cleaner now to get rid of the crud (no offense intended: - as you Yanks call it) . Having that gum off is half the job won.
I totally agree, but so many times, I learned ways to get the right tool and why, from this guy. I have bought several of the stuff he recommended, and I was glad I did. I know it sometimes sucks when you feel like you are watching a freakin TV commercial, but these are all relevant tools for tools! And that's all I got to say about that. lol
I’m so glad I found your channel about a year ago. You share every bit of knowledge I ever need.

James, I value your advice and all of your teachings.
Thanks again, Stumpy. Your videos are very informative. I learn something new every time you post one.

Hello for the carving knives which 300 600 1000 or 1200 metal diamond is the best thank you carbon steel
wrong. 10 strokes is for metric bits. Americans should take 8 or 16.
HAHAHA!
I believe the US conversion would be 12 3/8 strokes. But at least we won't have to stop every three strokes for a cup of tea.
havenisse2009 very good!
Some years ago the Brits metrified their currency and clever folks made the same joke. :)
Love your videos, how long will a diamond card last?
Many years
Could I get 40-60 shaker fronts out of a pair of bits BEFORE needing to sharpen them? Thanks 🙏🏼

Beautiful work place. Hugs for you.
Good video, I assume this work just as well on a straight router bit? Thanks
Thanks Stumpy! Very useful video, looking forward to more.
Nice comprehensive tutorial. Thanks!
Very nice video. Straight and to the point
Thanks!

Good stuff! I need to give this a try.
I have a DMT Dia-Sharp 12" bench stone that should work for this without the need to buy that small one you were using. I'm going to give it a try.
lol, that's good for you. lol

I need you to know how to sharpen profile bit ? They're a little bit smaller than
Thanks
simple but effective thanks
yup, really works, tks
Where can I purchase this kit and how much
This can also reduce the size of the bit as the cutting edge retreats after numerous sharpenings.
A great video got some of that Lapping Fluid.
Works a lot better than spit.
"keeping your bits clean is important" :)
wayne creech "Then I stroke back and forth ten times..."

Watch our Vlog videos (look for the Green thumbnails that say Vlog), you'll see the whole shop.
Excellent. I hope one of the sharpening series is on Forstner bits.
Mark Hazlewood Yes. That would be awesome.

Maybe I missed it, but are you supposed to use the 300 followed up with the 600 or pick one of the two? Thanks.
No, the 300 grit is for when you want a more coarse cutting surface, like on certain forstner bits. 600 grit is good for most router bits.
Very interesting!
very nice stump, forstner bits coming soon?
We are going to do router bits (done), forstner bits, hole saws, pocket knives and carbide turning tools
fantastic, I feel like most woodworkers are intimidated by sharpening anything that isn't a chisel a plane.
Got a head scratcher...how to sharpen my 1/2" flush trim bit🤨the shank get in the way of making complete passes
Thank you
Thx!
Not me baby. I use vice grips and 8" bench grinder at 30 grit. Fine Woodworking requires speed and aggression.
That was a good one my friend
could I use these for chisels as well?
You have carbide chisels?
trend stuff is high quality but expensive ,but you get what you pay for

How about an old timey on brace bits and auger bits?
cool.

I have 3 wood planes and 2 handsaws. I feel so inadequate...
I love the new format but I miss the song
