  • The day has finally come, it's time to jump into the world of Lego 12v trains. This is set 720-2 from 1969. A huge thanks to ‪@barnbricks‬ for reaching out and offering a good deal for the whole lot!

Ask 10 model railroaders how they clean their tracks and you'll get 10 different answers! 😉

Last night I was asked if a piece of Swiffer pad stuck on the front of the engine would be a good way to dust my tracks so I don't have to... Don't think I'm not looking into what those things are impregnated with. I'm guessing some sort of light oil if anything, but I'm hoping for the best. Trainstache lol

@@nathanielnicholson559 With the 12V (4.5V) train, it is usually sufficient to wipe the conductor rail with a lint-free cloth once before driving. During operation, the motor's grinder ensures that no dirt can get stuck. After a long period of standstill or if you notice that it is stuck in one place or another after several hours of driving, you can also use a little isopropanol to help. The situation is different with the 9v railway, since the power is drawn via the wheels, the dirt is not pushed away by a grinder, but rather rolled down nicely, so you can think about a kind of cleaning trolley.

Yea _ I think the motors always sounded bad. Lol! I learned about this over a really long time. You did real good in doing this over a few weeks. The conducting rails seem to get better the longer you run something. Mine do that hopping sometimes. Someone in europe told me that one of the transformers comes with a piece or mark to limit how far you turn the knob when using a 4.5v motor with a 12v power transformer. It might be the blue ones. I forgot which one. But basically you can use a 12v supply with either motor 0 the just didn't recommend full throttle. I like full throttle though. lol

Did we just comment on each other's videos at the exact same time 😅. I've heard that with the gray 12v transformer you could flip the knob over and it has 4.5v printed on it, maybe it does limit how much it can be turned 🤔. After filming I realized one of the axles on one of the cars was locked up so that was slowing things down as well 😅

@@BatteryPoweredBricksmaybe that’s what it is with the knob. I started to watch your video earlier but got distracted so then it either out we were commenting at the same time lol

The transformer from the 80s you can turn the nob upsidedown to stop it at 4,5 volt. And to let it run better you should replace the rubber on the diving wheels.

Nice set. I got a offer once for the same set with box, but I did not want dig yet another hole 😅. Personally I use a rubber (from my skiing equipment) to clean my 12v tracks, works great if they are rusty. For minor dirt I just use a alcohol (also from my skiing equipment, not from my whisky collection 🤣) dampened piece of cloth.
