I just watched another one doing this exact same thing, I used these back in ohio, Oak Point Stairs, we made stair parts of course,, but, ours wer electric and air powered, almost automatic, for fluting, I would hold onto the router, from right to left, and back in the same cut to clean the cut... then once back to the right, I would pull back on the router which hit a switch that turned the piece so far ( they had to be set up for how much we were doing ), and for depth of cut.. and do the same process again,,,, ( this is now considered hand made... ), the other router lathes worked in this same manner but with air power, they were automatic,, just set them up, and hit start,,, last video I watched the guy was plunging the blade in too slow,, was burning when he started the cut, and stopped,,, he was doing twist also.. ( anyone thinking of selling these for like a business,,, remember to think again,,, ),,, many companies like the one I worked for have their cuts patented... you can get into a lot of trouble if you copy someone elses work and then dont even realize it was patented....good luck and happy woodworking

Sears used to sell a machine that did this back in the 70's. It might have been called the "Router Crafter". There are probably a few floating around.
