Judith Durham is one of the greatest female vocalists of the last 100 years. She's vastly underrated outside Australia & NZ, but her crystal-clear, pitch-perfect vibrato is almost unmatched.
My heart swells and my eyes water seeing your generation enjoying this group, song, genre et al. I'm a senior that was present for the fabulous music of the 60's and 70's. Bless you both. 🎶💗
Her passing was such a sad day for both myself and the World of Music as a whole because she was always Pitch and Tone Perfect and had such a marvellously pure singing voice that hardly has comparables! There are still, to this day, very few who have such purity of voice and who can hold such beautiful harmonies, even with male singers as she proved in The Seekers, yet she was still so very easy to listen to, even in her later 70's when normally the voice deteriorates the older the person gets! She was still pure of voice almost to the very end as she proved during the Golden Reunion Tour that The Seekers put on where they played to their original fans alongside their children and even their grandchildren, thus they often played to 3 generations of families and fans, both old and new, some of whom were like myself, the middle generation, having been brought up on their music. I was never able to get to see them live but gladly purchased the albums released as a spin off of these concerts! Sadly Judith was showing her age at that point as she was struggling with medical issues often faced by people of her age, but for her it was a severe lung condition that she contracted when just 4 years of age after contracting measles, yet this lung condition would plague her throughout her whole life and it would be that which would ultimately cause her death, however she always battled it as her determination to succeed in the music industry was so strong. She had always told her parents and sister that she would be a famous singer one day and would sing on the biggest stages all around the world and she had been saying that from a very early age, so when at 19 years of age she told her parents about an opportunity for her to sing with 'the lads' in Britain for a month, they agreed that she could go. Thus they travelled on a Cruise liner to Britain and played as the onboard resident group to pay for their travel. They arrived in England and went straight into Abbey Road Studios, where The Beatles were recording downstairs, this is where they recorded a song written by Tom Springfield called 'I'll Never Find Another You'! Before they left Australia they were only known in Australia as a Folk band and couldn't afford to go to Britain by Aeroplane, but after this first hit and the follow-up hits they released shortly after, they were able to return to Australia by Aeroplane as they had become such big stars worldwide in such a short space of time. They returned to Australia with crowds of fans at the Airport waiting for a glimpse of their All Aussie world conquering heroes! Xxx
No over dubs, no auto correct, all one take. These guys were TIGHT! They are truly a national treasure here in Australia, and in the 60s they were huge. In 2067 the band was jointly honored as Australians of the Year (the only joint winners of that award). They actually knocked both the Beatles and The Rolling Stones off the number 1 position on the UK charts. Georgie Girl should probably be your next song from them.
The vid is actually a fake. Created as a promo back in the 1960s, the audio is from the finished record, which MAY have had editing on it. It would be common to lay down instrument and vocal tracks separately (otherwise the vocal mike could pick up instruments in the room), EMI were a bit slow mostly working with two track but might have moved to four track recording by the time of this release. Of course in live performance The Seekers nailed it every time.
@@highpath4776 You're spot on. The whole speaking part before the song was a popular ploy at the time with groups to bring the listener into the recording studio. The Beatles and The Monkees are two that immediately come to mind.
Love, love, love the Seekers. Such a rich, bright, cheerful sound. Amber and Jay, your kids might like “Morningtown Ride,” which was written for children.
Judith was a trained classical singer, and never imagined herself singing with a pop/folk group. But without her, they would have been just another group trying to make it (IMO).
Judith Durham had perfect pitch, and that's what stands out for me in this song. It's her vocal power, tonal clarity, and dead-on pitch that makes her and the Seekers instantly identifiable as artists. You hear it in Georgy Girl too. I agree with those who say she was one of the best pop singers of the last century.
I’m so glad you liked this. I bought this record when I was really young and Judith Durham, the girl singing, died yesterday aged 79. By the way, the session you were watching was filmed at Abbey Road Studios, where The Beatles recorded all their hits! For a time, I actually lived around the corner from these studios.
In an interview, Judith said the Beatles were recording downstairs at night, and the Seekers were recording upstairs during the day (or maybe vice versa). Can you imagine being the studio scheduler, penciling in these two iconic groups for sessions on the same day? Goosebumps!
@@omnipop4936 “…Judith said the Beatles were recording downstairs at night, and the Seekers were recording upstairs during the day…” In an interview that I heard [ABC News In-depth] Judith said that the Beatles recorded in the downstairs studio and the Seekers recorded that session of “I’ll Never Find Another You” in that downstairs studio also, so it seems more likely that the Beatles used that studio at night and the Seekers used it during the day.

More and more young people are getting really fed up with present day music and finally turning back to the older wonderful real music. I couldn't be happier about that.
I love this 60s classic. What I have really loved about this song, is the beautifully balanced lyrical, instrumental and vocally synchronous quality of the song. From the opening, beautifully blended, guitar/base guitar combo and background baseline vocals that segway into Judith's mid range masterful voice (riding just an octave and a half above the baseline vocals) and throughout the song, it is pure magic. (FTR, I am a retired semi professional music critic, who used to write for a small Boston, Massachusetts newspaper in the early mid 1980s).
Hey, great to see you react to the Seekers. Definitely a national treasure here in Australia. They had lots of great songs but two standouts for me are 'The Carnival is Over' and 'i am Australian'. Both great songs. Cheers!
There was a folk music revival in the early to mid 60's which became political with antiwar "protest songs" by such as Phil Ochs and of course Bob Dylan. Dylan famously hybridized folk with rock with The Band as his backup. Other folk/rock bands followed, most notably The Byrds. The Seekers were more straight folk or folk/pop. This tune got a lot of airplay along with Georgie Girl. Judith Durham had a gorgeous voice. And so pretty
This song by the seekers, chokes me up and moves me to tears every time I hear it, it reminds me of family that I’ve lost. It’s a love song, it is also a funeral song. Bless…
"I'll Never Find Another You" was written by Tom Springfield, Dusty Springfield's brother and band mate of the English Folk group The Springfields. After The Springfields disbanded, Dusty began a successful career in Pop and Soul music, while Tom began a career as a songwriter. He wrote most of The Seekers' identifiable material during the '60s.
Just saw your comment Dionysius O'Brien died unremarked nine days before Judith Durham. Without him they probably wouldn't have been the phenomenon they became
"Georgy Girl" must be their biggest hit--and there's a great live performance video of them--and this song, of course, is beautiful. Her voice was heavenly--small person and a glorious voice. The 60s folk music era and what came out of it was just stunning in its simplicity and beauty.
The Seekers had four hits that sold well over a million records each, which was quite something in those days .... Georgy Girl, i'll never find another you, The Carnival is over, and A world of our own all sold well over a million each.
Definitely "Georgy Girl" which was the title song from a popular British film of that year. Great film, great song - both capture the essence of London in the Swinging Sixties.
Probably why people love 60's music so much is because it WAS a time when we were all trying to spread love, peace and harmony, something seriously lacking today, sadly.
Ok, I may be really late to this party but I love the Seekers. This was back in the day when you might here anything on the AM radio, and folk bands the like of Peter Paul & Mary, the Association and of course the Seekers could be heard. Wonderful music, you should play Georgy girl.
I remember this song as a kid in the 60's...Judith's voice just absolutely mesmerized me, and was so unique ....the song still makes me smile exactly the same as it did!

I clicked on this so fast! I love this song but hadn’t heard it since I was a kid. This group had so many hits and Judith’s voice is amazing. Their sound was folk/pop. They were on the radio and TV’s Top of The Pops all the time.

I was a child in the 70s and 80s but I have always loved 60s folk music and The Seekers are one of my favourites! Thank you for reviewing them :-) Judith Durham has an amazing voice! Her rendition of Danny Boy is the the BEST version EVER!
I find that classically trained vocalists appear to sing in a dinstinct way which removes their unique sound, this is not the case with Durham, she sounds so natural and unconstrained.
That song put me back as a kid riding in the car with my mom. Brought me to tears. Mom’s been gone for 34 years. Miss her so much. I just loved hearing that song.
Another group which you have covered is Peter, Paul and Mary. Excellent harmonies. Their song "Where have all the flowers gone" will bring tears to your eyes. Lovely and timeless.
Recorded in the same studios as the Beatles, Abbey Road. Amazingly, the Seekers are still together, and at least as recently as a couple of years ago, were still performing (occasionally) and still sounding GREAT! All the same members as the original group. Amazing. Judith (the lead singer) is an international treasure. They actually didn't have that many hits (just a few, really), but they left a lasting impression. "I'll Never Find Another You" was their first #1 hit. Later the same year, they came with a single called "A World of Our Own," which was also excellent. But I think the song that many agree was their best -- it was certainly their biggest hit -- was called "George Girl." Definitely worth a reaction video.
"Georgy Girl" was certainly their most internationally famous recording. But my favorite, and a fitting end to their career together, is "The Carnival Is Over".
I'm so glad you guys are reacting to the Seekers,Judiths voice was so pure,to me,Judith is stunningly beautiful in that red dress and ponytails.I've always loved the Seekers music.Great reaction guys.
Never grows old; simply & real musical talent, great harmony & Judith’s exquisite voice. Even up to their retirement from a few years ago, The Seekers have maintained that great distinctive sound.
Yet another great song I forgot about. I don't know if I'd ever come across these on youtube without your reaction videos because you're going with suggestions from likeminded fans. So thanks again! It's great that you're sharing your reactions too because I'd probably get bored just listening to the songs sooner than I am now!
Judith Durham, the lead singer in this recording, died on 5th August. It would be nice if you reacted to a couple of songs as a tribute. Perhaps 'The Carnival Is Over' and I Am Australian'. She had such a wonderful voice, that was maintained over 50 years of performing. A truly remarkable singer and lady, together with the guys Bruce, Athol and Keith, she will be long remembered.
Awww, nice!!! The little Aussie folk band that was our first big international success. Judith is pretty much a national treasure here. They had a massively successful 50th anniversary album and tour and still sounded freaking fantastic all those years later. Try more like: Georgie Girl, Calling Me Home, Shores of Avalon, The Carnival is Over, Speak to the Sky, etc, etc.
What about "I am Australian!", Also I remember The Carnival is Over when it came out and still brings tears to my eyes due to what happened at that time in my own life.
Sometimes minimal instrumentation produces magical moments. Whilst I played piano from an early age, enjoying classical, rock, prog, metal, etc, I wasn't particularly attracted to the folk music side of artists. Now, in my later life, I'm part of a shanty crew. None of us are trained singers, few have knowledge of music theory or can read music, but... instinctive harmonies, the mix of different voice tones, familiarity with each others' strengths and weaknesses can produce those wonderful moments. Although we have guitars and a banjitar, these are used sparingly and most of the time we just add a little percussion. It is life enhancing. All this helps give me a greater appreciation of groups like the Seekers, their undoubted vocal strengths, but also the efficient use of their few instruments. Good to see that you appreciate this too. It took me a while!
My family would sing this in the car while driving cross country from Washington state to Michigan for our family vacation. I remember so many times watching the stars over Montana’s big sky country while singing this together. Beautiful.
My favourite of theirs is 'Morningtown Ride'. I remember being upset when they announced that they were splitting up and they ended their final concert with 'The Carnival is Over' 😥 A few years later 'The New Seekers' were formed in the UK by one of the original members of 'The Seekers' and their first big hit was 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing'; which originally came from an advert for coca-cola with the lyrics 'I'd like to buy the world a coke' 😊
The Seekers were a talented Band,Judith had a sweet lovely voice,I had I'll never find another you played at my late Husbands funeral. Just beautiful.R.I.P Judith.🙏🕊xx.
My favourite of theirs was Georgy Girl which I like to follow with Petula Clark`s Downtown. Partly because as the theme of the 1966 film of the same name, it used to show the young girl, Georgy window shopping.
No dubbing, no auto tuning, no faking, shaking or embellishment - just raw talent a few instruments and a tape recorder. How many could pass that test today?

But my favorite, and a fitting end to their career together, is "The Carnival Is Over".
sadly Judith passed away on Friday august 5 ,,best singer in the world ,this is my opinion rip Judith
I enjoyed your perceptive analysis of this great performance by one of the best 1960s groups, and I treasure your genuineness and your love of music.
I'm so glad you guys are reacting to the Seekers,Judiths voice was so pure,to me,Judith is stunningly beautiful in that red dress and ponytails.I've always loved the Seekers music.Great reaction guys.
I grew up with this song! I am 74 and hear it always gives me goosebumps! This channel is the best! Thank you!
Great song choice. These guys are legends in Australia. On my all time favorites list.
Saw them around 2017 brilliant
This song is one of the prettiest songs written during the 60’s.
Judith has such a beautiful voice
Love this song. You should do Georgie Girl as it was their biggest hit.
I always liked this sweet little ditty. I love the look of the lead singer, and her voice was so smooth - and all their harmonies were perfect.
Judith Durham definitely one of the best and unique female voices, I never get bored of listening to her, the Seekers 'World of Our Own' next
And she is still going!
Judith's voice is as beautiful as ever.
@@erbewayne6868 Sadly, she died last Friday.
That song is sacred to me…..love is forever.
R.I.P. Judy.
The kind of love they are singing about is the kind of love YOU both have for each other, AND your children. It is magic.
Georgy Girl is another must from this timeless Aussie group - so upbeat and swinging Sixties
Judith Durham passed away on August 5, 2022. The loss of a beautiful voice and a beautiful person. RIP Judith and thank you for the music.
I had never heard this..thank you for the reaction..ya'll are introducing me to some great music
Was this from before, or just after Skippy?
Wow I didn't know they were Aussies! Thanks for the info. I love Georgie Girl.
What about "I am Australian!", Also I remember The Carnival is Over when it came out and still brings tears to my eyes due to what happened at that time in my own life.
This is a beautiful combo of folk and popular music, and absolutely gorgeous.
Wonderful Aussie folk band. The first I ever saw in concert when I was 13. I was in love with Keith Potger, second from the left, next to Judith.
One of the rare singers who is identical live to her recording voice.
I am so happy and gratified you "young folks" are finding these treasures.
The Seekers were a talented Band,Judith had a sweet lovely voice,I had I'll never find another you played at my late Husbands funeral. Just beautiful.R.I.P Judith.🙏🕊xx.
Classic, never gets old just better. RIP Judith.
Just love her voice and this timeless song
My favourite of theirs was Georgy Girl which I like to follow with Petula Clark`s Downtown. Partly because as the theme of the 1966 film of the same name, it used to show the young girl, Georgy window shopping.
The incomparable Judith Durham. No voice like hers. Powerful and pure. A heavenly sound that can only come from Judith.
This has been a favorite of mine since it came out in 1965....57 years !!! Check out another of their hits Georgie Girl
one of my fav groups of the day!!! Love her voice!!! her "Georgie Girl" was smashing!!!
RIP Judith a GREAT voice
