I really like watching your reviews because you talk in a user friendly language which people like me can relate to. We have an MU-X and we are happy with it but like you said it's way behind in tech and safety features hopefully the new one that comes out next year will be better.
God bless you and your family

    Great review!
I purchased a LST model 2 weeks ago with the view of touring around this great country, possible towing a van.
Very happy to date. Sure doesn't have some of the fancy extras but seems to be a solid vehicle with one of the best most reliable engines around.

Hey Mal. I bought one in September 2019. I've done 40K so far, drive 160+ daily for work and have taken it on family road trips and even off road.
It is a nice car and doesn't rattle like some others do.

I daily one, I Love it to bits. Nothing fancy, does what it has to do as an absolute workhorse of an SUV. Old reliable, she feels like a lumbering beast at times but the 3.0 L TurboDiesel can get her up to speed quickly enough. Need to carry a bunch of people around? the MUX will get the job done, need to haul some boxes from point A to point B? the MUX will get the job done just fine. I take it through around 290km up highways and mountain roads every other month or so to visit family, and I still regularly get 9.6-10km/litre.
I like the exterior, its big, beefy and while it doesn't have a lot of elegant or fancy lines to speak of, it's a straightforward vehicle wherein what you see is what you get. Rough and Tumble is exactly how I'd describe this thing and I love it.

Hi Paul, thanks for this review.
We have a RAV4 diesel AWD and we are looking for this car after saw it on the road. Not really sure sure yet on this, the Jeep or the Sigma Cherokee.
This seem to lack some safety features as you mentioned and the anti break...
PS we have a 4 years old and it would have nice if you had cover that here.

The steel plate is only available in the 4x4 model here in the Philippines. We don't have front parking sensors here. The rear is only a 2 eye sensor here, unlike in yours it is 4 eye sensor, but it is enough for our tight garage, in which if we have 4 sensors, 2 would detect the wall.
The infotainment system here has AM/FM, DVD, USB, AUX, iPod, Screen Mirroring, Bluetooth, Offline Navigation (has to be updated manually)(No real time traffic as it is offline) but it is useful for me as I don't usually have pocket wifi/mobile data in normal drives, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) ready (this is for the 2017 model), I'm not sure if the 2020 model already has the TPMS included.
I love the design of the aircon, easy to use and I even press that while driving on the expressway, I also love that the headlight, and wipers are manual, as I turn them on automatically by sense. It was only 6 speakers back then, with 2 additional ones in the 2018 model. The old one just has 1 USB for the stereo and 2 12V outlet, the new one is the same as yours, with the USB and the 12V outlet. The Hill Descent Control (HDC) was added in 2018, which our 2017 one didn't have. We don't have a parking sensor on/off switch.
The top box was hard to open but you'll get used to it and it becomes easy, you just need to push it further at the back part of the button. Didn't know that the reach was something I needed till I tried it in the Fortuner and Innova at the dealership, but reach isn't a problem for me, so it is fine for me. Since we're not that tall like you the space at the 2nd row is huge, plus at our height most people can't reach the tailgate, unless you're tall enough, I don't hit the tailgate, so I'm not that tall, but I can reach it. I like the design at the back as well, the aircon vents, the fan controls, the lights and the 10" monitor, though I would prefer to use that at daytime, as it is too bright at night, if I adjust the brightness and contrast the people/objects just becomes dark, compared to the Fortuner that I tested at the dealership, since the roof isn't flat I hit my head sitting at the 2nd row middle seat and at the 3rd row of the Fortuner, compared to the MU-X with a flat roof, which gives good headroom in all rows. As a 5'6" the space at the back is just right, got some toe and knee room but it is really for small adults like 5'4" and below and children.
The cargo space is a problem for wheelchairs as all seats up, gives no space for it, and the 3rd row has no adjustments to be straight unlike the Fortuner, so I had to tie a rope to the handles inside to hold the seat so the seat would be straight and it was able to hold a wheelchair there. The tailgate might be too low for people of your size, but for my country, the people here find it a bit hard to reach. The storage box didn't come with the car and it was an optional package, so we don't have a flat floor. You can also make the 2nd row fold flat, as I have tried putting the tow bar for the truck inside, it did reach the front but it fits. The old 2014-2017 model just had a 5 speed so it feels like it needs the 6th speed to lower the noise, they placed the 6 speed automatic in the 2018 model.
Both Isuzu and Mitsubishi in the Philippines are just 3 years or 100,000km warranty, compared to yours which offers 6-7 years. The suspension of the MU-X is better than the Fortuner as I have test drived my auntie's Fortuner at CALAX (Cavite-Laguna Expressway) got lots of turns and it got me dizzy, compared to the MU-X which my family was able to sleep even with lots of turns at high speed and I didn't get dizzy during our trip on that road. The Fortuner has mor torque so it was faster at low speed to get to high speed but when I tried it at the expressway, the MU-X had more power in the long run, as the Fortuner felt like it needed more horsepower, so the MU-X wins for me in terms of having more horsepower, though they added 14hp to the new Bluepower model, the 2017 model just had 163 Hp and the 2018 had 177 Hp. The steering wheel is a bit heavy, but it is good on the highway, it gives me more muscle and it makes driving other cars with lighter steering easy. We don't have those blind spot monitors here, though I wish we had one, very useful since I've had a lot of blind spot encounters with motorcycles.
In the Philippines it is also a good car, a lot of people buy it as well, for me it has almost enough technology and stuff (4x2 model), it just lacks 8 things (in no particular order) like, 1. the blind spot monitor, 2. the 6th gear which the current model has (but just in long drives, and since most of my driving is in the city, I don't really need it), 3. Hill descent (which the current model has), 4. front parking sensors and camera, 5. keyless/passive entry for the right side, 6. USB charging and a 12 V at the middle row (as the 2017 model had no USB charging ports until the 2018 one, but it lacks USB charging ports at the back even in the new one) 7. 3rd row straight positioned seats/ bigger cargo space for the wheel chair with all seats up for 7 people, 8. the box after the 3rd row, which costs extra to buy, which levels the floor. But in my normal/almost everyday driving it doesn't bother me as it feels complete already with buttons, knobs and dials easy to press/turn even when driving and all that I need is there, the sensors is just for parking in tight parking, but I've already managed even without the front ones, the lacking keyless at the right is just for getting things at the right side, but I just open and close the tailgate to unlock the car, the USB charging is for many passengers but we already have a charger good for 2 people in front at the 12V socket, Hill descent only for descending steep climbs at I had to step hard on the brakes even with a steep descent in slow speed, blind spot (got used to knowing where that is and I wait a few seconds before turning), for the seats being straight is just when the whole family is going out, and the box is just when we are putting groceries in the car, but normal drives I don't really need it. For me it isn't old as we just had it since 2017, and it is the best car for me, (OTHERS MIGHT SAY OTHERWISE BUT THESE ARE ALL MY OPINIONS).
(In my opinion) It is more comfortable (for me) than the Fortuner, it has better shock, it has both disk brakes front and rear, (compared to the 2016 Toyota Fortuner) with disk and drum setup, it has what I need like the folding mirrors, with Chrome and LED Turn signals, electric/motor powered drivers seat (we don't need heated seats as the Philippines is already hot), bright headlights, as the Toyota Fortuner 2.4 G (not the Bi-beam LED type)(the Hallogen headlight type) I tested had high beams which were too high or lacks brightness, rear camera and sensors and the reverse light at the bottom helps it see even in no light/poorly lit areas (compared to the 2016 Fortuner G with no sensors or camera, had sensors in 2017, just had a camara in 2019 or 2020 and Fortuner V is just sensors and had a camera in 2019/2020).
It has Cruise Control for long drives, max Speed locked at 180kph, for safety as roads in the Philippines aren't that good to speed too fast, as the expressway with few cars only has 2 lanes (too fast for some, but it might be slow for fast/overspeeding drivers) and the speed limit is just 100 kph, and some just go 120-140 kph before you're close to another car again, seats 5 with cargo/luggage and seats 7 without cargo, high ground clearance, good for low floods that sedans can't pass, good view all around, cool/cold aircon, good infotainment system [with offline Navigation, Bluetooth, radio, AUX, USB (Can also play video files), iPod, Screen Mirroring (I have tried it with phone and laptop)(it is better with phone as it doesn't have a high enough resolution and big enough screen for the laptop, unless your watching a movie playing from the laptop), DVD, TPMS ready, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the Philippines infotainment system].
It has nice and bright interior lights, front and rear especially the cargo space light with all 7 or with just 5 and cargo, (Compared to the Toyota Innova which only has a light at the side and not at the top), nice design inside and outside, all well placed, comfortable leather seats, nice keyless entry, as I like putting my hand there to open unlike the other competitors where I have to push the button to unlock, very useful but lacks the keyless for the right side, strong brakes I was able to brake in time when I heard a screech from not very far at the expressway, I like the safety features that our MU-X already has, like the hill start assist as I didn't fall when I stopped and moved on high and steep ramps, the Traction Control (TRC) as it reduced my speed to prevent wheel spin while going up a high, steep and wet ramp, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC), as I have swerved near the barrier at the left most lane to avoid a duck that popped out all of a sudden and was able to go back to my lane without losing control at almost 100kph as I was in Cruise Control and my feet was not able to react, just my hands at that sudden shock, Push Start Stop, Auto-dimming meter gauge (yes it dims and brightens automatically), the meters and the MID design is good for me, the audio switches at the steering wheel, the design of the steering wheel is also good for me, the hard plastics are good as it does not get scratches easily and might last long, no piano black that can easily get scratched (2017 model)(just the aircon vent design and the top glove box design), the LED 3rd brake light that isn't integrated in the spoiler, Spoiler (but smaller compared to the 2018 model). (ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE JUST MY OWN OPINIONS AND EACH PERSON HAS HIS/HER OWN OPINION).

There’s a lot to like but why didn’t they at least include auto wipers, auto lights, a beefier stereo or heated seats. Seems very efficient, i like the ease of switching seating and its capable off road, better than most in stock form without needing all the tech gadgets. I’m tossing between one of these slightly used or a well used Prado VX/Kakadu. Prado is a little larger and could be perceived as a bit more solid in interior seats, plastics and things like the centre storage spaces but im not sure that justifies the extra 100k mileage on the Prado, especially considering the Isuzu engines are so good. Tough call, no clean winner when you are comparing what you get for your dollar.

Super reliable, but don't expect anything fancy. It makes up for the loss of gadgets with it's reliablity. Less stuffs = Less stuffs that will break

The hill decent and traction control work great in the bush and off road. Got out of it and bought a Jeep which has everything the 2021 MU-X will have BUT has guts AND drives like a car with better economy!

I hope soon.......that Isuzu will make it more global like the late Trooper, by adding more engine options aside from the familiar 3.0L Ddi commonrail turbo diesel 130kw......even a petrol engine for some markets as well like these:
-3.0L Ddi commonrail DOHC V6 turbo diesel 150kw
    -3.5L DOHC V6 petrol 200kw
-or a hybrid option like this (1.9L Ddi commonrail turbo diesel 110kw + electric motor with 70kw = to about 160kw combined)
And along with a few new engines and specs.........an optional 9spd automatic too

Greetings from the Philippines, Great content tho! I drive both isuzu’s offering, the Dmax just feel more planted at highspeed and around corners as opposed to the Mux. Mux’s brake pedal feels mushy and too spongy. Although the Mux is a great comfortable highway cruiser if you don’t plan on weaving in and out of traffic out on the open roads
