Hey Guys! If you are having issues with the Knuckle seals squealing/singing at highway speeds, check out this video - th-cam.com/video/7sR1WRoXuEM/w-d-xo.html If you would like to upgrade your body mounts check out my latest video - th-cam.com/video/LWh6TNq8GOA/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the warnings. I do have a MU-X LS-T 2014, and so far no issues to report. Just standard periodical replacement, tyres, battery, gas in AC, filters, etc. Great going anywhere, doing anything car.
I've got a 2017 Lsu and mate I've had, 3 turbos changed (on my 4th and last) going aftermarket now, my air con condenser went at 45000kms (replaced under warranty). With that being replaced, they had to Rip apart my whole dash as it sits behind there and when they put it together the plastics don't line up anymore. Had bug fights with the dealership because they were stating that's how they come from factory lol. Started to lose love for the dmax slowly after this. My left side mirror started to fail when it folds and now folds in completely out of sync with the right side mirror at 50,000kms, head unit vol up and vol down buttons broke. My belt also needs changing now and I have the squeak pretty bad coming from the driver wheel area but cannot be the bearings as I've regreased them (thanks to your video). I've yet to check the body mounts now.... Also to note, the incab noise of the motor is really loud, even after I've dyna matted the whole interior. I really do like my dmax but after everything I've been through, the countless trips to isuzu, losing the car for days on end and the trouble the dealerships give to actually approve a warranty claim is the reason I'd never buy a isuzu car again.
63000KM done on my 2017 LSU Dmax and the air con condenser gone as well. Waiting for it to get replaced under warranty next week. Have been told its a 2 day job. They advised that they replace a lot of these.
I know how you feel, you have a lemon too, isuzu didn’t give a crap as far as they are concerned it’s was fine of the production line blaming the dealership for the issues.
I’ve had similar 2017 as well. Ac condenser went at under 30k and after being put back together there’s a rattle now. Volume buttons are also on their way out. Also 3rd turbo has blowen the last turbo lasted 20000km roughly 7 months. Trouble is I’ve tuned it, I was told it would still be replaced as recall if I did but now that it’s tuned they say they won’t replace it. It’s been a really good truck with 230k on it but I wouldn’t buy another now. I’ll stick a aftermarket turbo in it I’m not going back to the factory one
With the squeak around the driver's wheel, there can be an issue with the windscreen bottom corner plastic covers on the outside. When they get dust under them they can squeak with bidy movement against the glass. Spray some silicone spray or even just pour water over them to see if the squeak disappears. I had this issue with an untraceable squeak from the dash and my passenger side bottom corner mould was the problem. If it starts to squeak again I just spray it again around the edges against the glass. @MrTheBigOx
My a/c belt has been making that noise for absolutely ages and didn’t really take much notice because it wasn’t screeching but you’ve just brought that to my attention, she’ll be right. Press send..
Hello Nick . I watched your videos on changing filters which made the job very easy. A big thankyou for that .Factory air filter 55 dollars , Factory fuel filter 75 dollars. My Mux has 40 , 000 on clock. Fitted new filter in Provent also .75 dollars..It has collected 500 ml of oil in 40 , 000 k .I heard a slight whistle of AC belt today on start up .Done a couple of trips down south to Thredbo Canberra, Eden plus a few laps of Bathurst ,New England , fuel consumption 8 •5 litres a hundred .Trip out to Longreach , Winton , Mt Isa and surrounds , 8 litres a hundred..When travelling light from Northern NSW to Sunshine Coast 7 litres a hundred. I hate taking the car to the dealer to have car serviced at 500 dollars a pop , for what they do . You can do the maintenance yourself and know it's being done properly . It's a necessary evil to take it to the dealer so your covered for warranty purposes..I've always feel my car is in danger when taking it to a dealer for maintenance. You are trusting them to do the right thing and do the maintenance as per book..I bought a VX Commodore in 2000 from new had it for 20 years 300 , 000 ks only things I had to change was an Alternator and one set of brake pads plus usual filters , oil , one set spark plugs.. Very cheap motoring...Wish I could buy a new Aussie made Commodore . Minimal maintenance cost ... Very reliable...Your Videos are first class Nick .You make a lot of people very happy with you giving us all great insight into our Isuzus..
Thanks for your informative vids on Isuzu MUX. I have a 2015 model with 73000 k's bought new. An issue I recently attended to was when the vehicle felt underpowered. A quick connection to my cheap scan tool provided the diagnostic info I needed to resolve the issue - Code PO403 (exhaust gas recirc. circuit). A few youtube searches guided me to the EGR valve being the culprit. I first emptied two cans of 'inlet manifold conditioner/cleaner' in through the MAP sensor orifice as seen on one of your other vids. Removal/strip down and clean (unbinding the valve stem within its guide within EGR) was what was needed. While at it, I removed and cleaned the throttle valve and scooped out a large amount of carbon deposits which extend down into the inlet manifold which I did not have full access to for cleaning. I think I may have to remove the manifold in the future to be sure its not too restricted. It would be helpful to view a comprehensive vid on this process and will keep searching. The vehicle is good now - full power etc. Thanks again for your work.
I got same issue with squeking drive belt..it was replaced under warranty on my 80ks service and after few month..squeking is back,so what i did is i spray w40, and it was gone..got my turbo replaced with green dot as well!! Thank u for your in Nick!! You are bloody legend!!
The ac belt squeak is a really easy fix as you said. I bought my dmax second hand as an ex fleet car with 107,000km, I changed both the ac and the alternator belt at the same time, the alt belt didn't need changing but more just peace of mind. Both were the factory belts and I've changed to aftermarket and hasn't squeaked since. I did have a fuel pressure sensor fail on me, the car would start as normal then stall soon after, more commonly when parked uphill. I had to prime the fuel filter and it would run perfect afterwards. I got it replaced by a local mechanic and haven't had that problem since Loving my dmax and wouldn't buy anything else!
2016 dmax. Done 190,000km. Been running a remap for 50,000. *Abs sensor crapped out after too many puddles. *had a wobbly idle for a while, injectors are getting new seals and copper washers soon. *AC went after it went to mechanics for the idling issue. other than these issues it's been great.
CHASSIS RUST - Now a listed check for all Dmax and MUX in New Zealand when they are taken in for their annual road fitness certificate or similar (its called a WOF here). The fault is that the front chassis crossmember, just behind the bumper, rusts on older D-Max and MUX models up to about 2019. If they fail the inspection the only remedy is to have the whole cross member cut out and a new one fitted. We have both a 2015 Dmax and a 2015 MUX, the Dmax lives in a garage, gets loved and looked after, has only 56K on it but it still has the rust problem. The MUX lives outside and had it bad but has been fixed -- this rust is a huge issue in New Zealand.
I’ve actually had the body crack on my ‘16 dmax. Mostly right behind the headlights. Only just discovered this so I haven’t had it fixed. I’ve heard hit and miss stories of Isuzu covering the repair cost with many dealers blaming aftermarket accessories. I believe the factory mounts are way to soft and allow the body to flex causing the cracking. I’ve heard people swap in the Colorado body mounts which are way better.
@@ashdivakaran9664 I noticed a rattling sound I couldn’t work out for a while and then seen cracks near the vehicle VIN number plate. I was going to make a video on it, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
@@ignitionoffroad5028 that sucks, hopefully they fix it under warranty, there’s a class action over it. I’ve had no luck getting them to fix my 2020 DMax with bad tyre wear
Where do I start… 2020 Isuzu MU-X LST Turbo blew at 20,000KM I then decided to modify it heavily, my CV’s have been a nightmare, I’ve gone through 2 sets with the lift. I have recently installed pedders CV’s and free wheeling hubs, along with a superior engineering diff drop. Haven’t had any further issues. Nick - I also had the same issues with the front body mounts however at my last service had them replaced, the new ones seem a lot thicker in design and had no further issues.
Had the turbo replaced under warranty on my 2019 MUX at 40000ks, no other issues. Great videos thanks Nick. Replaced the head unit myself with a Pioneer 6350BT, best mod I’ve done to the vehicle…love it, high def screen, responsive and CarPlay, smaller 7” screen is no issue due to the much improved definition…
On my 2021 Dmax I got a Pedders pre rego GVM upgrade to 3.4t, removed the tub, installed a Norweld tray & canopy with an Enerdrive 12v system and 130L upright Bushman fridge. My only problem so far is loosing beer from the fridge! I will talk to Isuzu at next service to see if they can help me with my apparent leak. Also, I can’t gear the tail gate hanger banging around any more, surprisingly!
2017 dmax. RHS front axle seal went at 30k. Replaced under warranty. Cracked inner guard 70k. Just approved for warranty replacement. Body mounts look fine
Hi, we have cracked inner guards and cracks behind the headlights as well on our 2018 Mux. Awaiting word from Isuzu if they’ll cover under warranty or not. Do you have an aftermarket bullbar on your dmax?
Thanks Nick, explained my 2018 MUX turbo problem exactly. My warranty was 3 days short of the 5 years and 350klm over the 130,000 but the dealership replaced it no problems, all covered by them. Gotta love a happy ending.
Hi Nick. Our 2017 DMax had the air-conditioning go last August. The dealer didn't honor the warranty.we took it to dealer twice and he replaces hoses etc and said it was fixed each time but one day later, the air wouldn't be working again.Afee $700 in bills, We got a second opinion. Easy diagnosis showed evaporator Waa the problem. Another $3,200 to get it fixed. Very disappointed with Isuzu as it is a common problem and they knew it.
Hi Great video, About 4000km in on a new MUX MY19 LSU had a sensor that selects 2wd/4wd H/L come loose with no real reason for it to happen. Was driving when 4×4 light came on. Pulled straight over then it went into 4x4. After 20mins of not being able to stop it from happening didn't take any risks and rang Isuzu assistance straight away. Fitter said that he believed it was the sensor and had seen it happen 3 or 4 times on the Isuzu. He also said he had heard from another mechanic of someone not being aware of the change and causing a lot of damage from driving through it. Long story short it was towed to nearest dealer and they were excellent in communication and follow up and went above and beyond to get my vehicle back to my home address 250km away the following Monday. The big problem was the roadside assist outside of the call out and towing. As this happened on a Saturday afternoon during school holidays and being a weekend it was absolutely useless. Just be aware we were lucky our son was able to do 2 trips from near Perth to get us and all of our gear back home. No accommodation or car hire. I did follow up and Got $200 voucher from RAC for out of pocket costs which was better than nothing although not easy. We were very lucky we didn't go up north as we had originally planned otherwise we would completely stuffed. Still love my Muxy! Just be aware that roadside assit 24/7 365 doesn't have to include after hours, weekends or school holidays hire cars or emergencyaccommodation. Anyway keep up the great work Cheers Johny
disappointed in the turbo issues currently on the third turbo second one with the green dot ,still love the Dmax .keep an eye on boost pressure it’s a good early sign of the turbo issue
Thanks for a great honest video mate. I bought an MUX brand new in 2020 and had issue after issue within the first 12 months. Everything was covered by warranty but just too many headaches.
Hello Nick, great videos keep them coming. Early 2016 (pre DPF) LSM D-Max 5 sp manual, around 80,000 km started jumping out of 2nd gear. After dealer got the go ahead from IUA to repair under warranty the saga began. At 100,000 km it went in for repair which found problem to be a worn selector fork, since it was mid 2020 in the height of covid-19 with no parts in Australia I was without vehicle for 13 weeks. When I went to pick it up it wouldn't go into reverse gear, during the next 6 weeks the gearbox was sent to a specialist gearbox repairer in Melbourne (not IUA dealer), this time the problem was the reverse gear had been put on backwards. Do not trust local IUA dealer anymore and since use Local Isuzu Truck agent for my servicing/mechanical work. Now with 136,000 km on the D-Max no other major issues, had tail shaft/transfer case seal replaced as leaking which seems to be common. Have lubricated hub seals as squeaking sometimes, no cracks in engine bay or body mounts, no turbo problems.
Thankfully at 36000kms on my 2019 D-Max, I havent had these issues. Though I have got issues with rust formation at all the weld sites. For a vehicle that has been driven in the city for 99% of those kms, it was very disappointing that the dealer determined that this was a result of "extreme environmental conditions" even with the rust causing large chunks of the protective coating to flake off in areas
I also have had an issue with the tabs that hold the front panels on my ute. They snapped just behind where they have the rise that locks the front panel in place. Thankfully it doesnt seem to be causing any issues
I had the wheel squeak issue, After a lot of mucking around I found it wasn't the seals. In my case the anti rattle shims on the front brake pads were somehow able to slide in toward the rotor and rub making the horrendous noise. The fix was easy , I just positioned them back where they belong and found there were some convenient little tabs that I bent over to keep them there. Hope this helps.
Pretty sure I had same issue on my 2018, mechanic said common problem. Tightening fixed it. Got 2021 model now and wish I had my old truck. I do like new one but I prefer my old more.
2020 facelift dmax. 25,000kms in front left upper control arm ball joint missing/sheared off split pin causing nut to come off…luckily i had the suspension lifted by Pedders. They took a look and now im awaiting a replacement ball joint. At least they took responsibility, even if they didnt want to admit it was most likely them
I have myself and also heard of people having issues with the rear diff spider gears wearing, I purchased my 2015 dmax second hand with 140k on the clock, drained the diff oil and found a substantial amount of metal on the magnet, fixed the issue by replacing the centre with a lsd centre from an earlier Colorado. Sometimes I've seen major failure where they completely strip.
Hi Nick, our 2017 dmax, had it's air-conditioning fail last august. The dealer didn't honour the warranty, just replacing parts that didn't need replacing and costing me 700 dollars. We got a second opinion, the evaporator, he said they all go on the dmax, just over 100 thousand kms.
Thanks for the video. We’ve got a 2019 MY2018 MU-X. So far perfect. But only done around 40K. One possible point of difference for us is we always give it a minute to cool the turbo before shutting down the engine. On a hot day off the highway, maybe 5 mins. We also keep the DPF display up and never turn it off mid burn. After a burn is complete, we give it 5 mins to cool from 600 deg. When it was new I had problems refueling as it would click off. Later the dealer explained to not put the nozzle fully in. With it out about 4-5 cm and kind of flat I can use the truck stop fast fill. I haven’t fitted a catch can just yet. However we never do short trips and use fuel doctor. Plus we change the oil more frequently than required. I suspect this helps. It runs like new. However I’ll probably fit one sometime this year.
Mine’s a 2015 MUX and it clicks off while refuelling too. Like you mention, pulling the nozzle out a few cms does the trick. Also after it is full it usually does a big gurgle and spits out a bit of fuel if you remove the nozzle straight away…so I give it a few seconds to clear its throat first 😉
@Roy Hatter No turbo timer or walking away for me. I just sit there 🙂. At least usually. Sometimes I’ll walk a short distance at a rest stop. We are lucky in Aus that most ppl keep to themselves, most of the time…
Thanks Nick, very informative video. I've had the turbo issue on my 2019 MUX after 24,000 kms. Was replaced under warranty by Isuzu NZ. New turbo has the green dot so fingers crossed. Done 30,000kms so far and no other issues.
The only issue I have had with my 2017 MUX is the Turbo issue you spoke about. And that was quickly replaced from my local dealer in South Australia.. When i questioned them they said they have heaps of the new turbos on the shelf waiting. This was around 6 months ago I recon and at the time they were replacing atleast one a day. And mine also has the Green dot on the waste gate actuator
I have had 2 issues on both my D Max's. First one on both of them is the body cracking. Exactly where you said on the side panel. I bolted a plate over as a patch but is currently having that sorted. This is on the 2014 d max (180000km), the 2018 d max (80000km) is starting the same problem now. The second issue I've had on both of them is alternators getting bits of grit under the brushes and as a result the alternator won't charge. Both vehicles were doing this on an annual basis during the rains. I sealed the back covers up on the alternators against the dealers recommendations as they said it would cause the alternator to over heat. Since I've done that fix I haven't had an alternator fail. Apart from that these two vehicles do all the farm running around and keep us mobile. I'm in central Africa so not sure if there are any differences but understand our model is assembled in South Africa.
Thanks Nick Like your videos Definitely drive belt which drove me nuts I had a 2016 LSU MUX Had it for 5 years and Di 110k Never missed a beat soooooo reliable I have now bought a 21 xterrain and love it but just only 10 k Thanks again for your efforts cheers
I actually had vibration issues after a 2" lift, but mine is a manual transmission dmax. I had to put an 1" spacer in the tailshaft bearing to level it. Vibrations were eliminated.
Enjoy videos Nick. Mine has just started the turbo squeal, funnily enough the same day I watched this video. Just booked it in to be looked at. Thanks for that.
Gday I got the 2018 muxy from new she's done 140klm now drive her pritty hard I have replaced 3 CVS bent steering arms, DPF clogged up was unable to clean out so run I deleted DPF had her remapped and tuned and is a beast now. Great car
How about the tailgate/boots don't lift high enough, obviously the car was designed by Frodo Baggins, anyone over 6ft will understand my pain. The bigger tyres and lift kit might fix the issue in your case, I have seen something about longer struts to increase clearance as the hinges have room to lift higher before hitting the roof, To be honest this probably goes for most SUVs in the MU-Xs competition.
Hey Nick my issue was, and I think the mechanic has fixed it, was between third and fourth gear, the transmission would slip or over rev, had it serviced and put back to factory, so far so good, good to see you back.
Thanks Nick. Pretty sure I’ve posted before about my 2017 LS-U but Isuzu didn’t honour the warranty for the cracked inner guards and left us for dead in the middle of NT last year. Cost us $10k to fix. Air con went at 125,000km volume button on the head unit broke, both of these were fixed under warranty. Doing dpf burn off every 100-150km now. The customer support or lack of we have experienced from IUA head office is frankly disgusting. We filed a VCAT Application a few months ago which could take up to a year to be heard. It’s been a nightmare owning this thing. Panel beaters said the cracks will happen again. Mine was the 5th repair of a Dmax/mux cracked inner guards they had that year. Isuzu are blaming it on the gvm upgrade (installed after the cracks appeared ) They originally said it was the xrox bull bar until I pointed out the dealer approved it through finance at the time… Never again would I buy an Isuzu especially the current gen being close to the same price as a Prado which is far superior especially for off-road work. At least they stick by their slogan ‘Go your own way.’ 😂
Thanks alot for your comment. Really appreciate your honesty. I'm really sorry to hear that you had to go through all of those issues and the lack of help from Isuzu. Terrible...
Thanks James. Morale is pretty broken after all this but we’re not going down without a fight. Just a long wait time for the hearing now thanks to Covid but we’ll get there.
Nick ...Just to be aware of one more issue on Isuzu and I love mine, My Dmax LSU 2015 they can shit the A/C evaporater as where the evap pies come in to the engine bay there is no support for the pipes which the hoses join onto and this flexes the pipes on the evaporater and they drop their gas. There is a bloke in queensland who 3D prints a support bracket for the firewall which helps stop this happenning about $85.Cheers Johnno
Thanks, Nick the aircon belt makes a fair bit of noise on my 2018 d max After watching this episode, problem solve, mate keep the videos coming, your doing really well.
Nick your engine bay is always immaculate. Can you do a video on how you clean/degrease your engine bay. I’m always cautious with cleaning the engine bay and doing it safely so I don’t damage anything
Thanks for the great infoNick. I experienced the noisy AC fan belt at 140 Km on my ‘15 MUX LST and had it replaced only for the same belt self destruct 3 months later.
Hi Nick great video, I have a 2017 3.0 LS-U MU-X, front AC fan gave out at 30k km, rear crankshaft seal started leaking at 35k km. Accessory belt has been sqeaking for as long as I can remember 🤣 but love this car
Hi Nick thanks for all your"how to" videos, after watching your "common issues" I went out to my 2017 Mux to have a look under the bonnet to see if mine had any cracks on the inner guards and to my surprise I found two cracks on the passenger side the 1st was exactly where you described and the second was a little further back just in front of the fuel filter. What exactly should I do next "what's the proper procedure"
Hi Nick. Great content. Love your videos. I have a 2019 MUX that has done 70k. My only issue so far after 3yrs is after a battery change my 'instant fuel usage' on the computer on the dash has gone haywire, with the av fuel usage doubled. But my actual fuel usage hasn't changed. Showing less than 2lts per 100k when accelerating but then changing all over the place when reaching desired speed. Anything form 15ltrs per 100k to 99.9ltrs. Dealership zeroed it for me! Wow! And then said they can't do anything else. It wasn't doing this before the battery change and I'm hoping it wasn't something I did, and also hoping someone else has had this issue, and solved it.
Are you reading instant fuel economy or average. The instant fuel economy will always be what the vehicle is using at that exact time so if idling it will be 99.9 l p100 and when driving it should change. If you hit the end of the left wiper stalk it should go to the average fuel economy screen. You can also have it set on km per l or l per 100km so just check what it's on. You can change this in the settings screen
@@LowRangeNick Yep I've been through all the functions and if I check the particular screen function where I have 'Inst' on the top and 'Aver' on the bottom that's where it's all changed. I now get 0.00 ltrs at idle, 99.9 ltrs (or any numbers above 30ltrs up to 99) once I've buttoned off and still doing 60kmph. A trip to Brisbane from the Sunny Coast I would normally av under 7 lt per 100. (I drive conservatively around 110kph) Now it's over 12. It's really bugging me
I tend to agree with body mounts causing the cracks, is there a upgrade or better version of these body mounts? I personally think the rubber is to soft, maybe that why the ride is so comfortable
Wife's 2019 Mux needed a dpd diferential pressure sensor and hoses at 40km and there is an Service Bulletin for this fix. Dpd wouldn't do a burn and went into limp hm mode. Just as a heads up. Like your vids champion
2019 Dmax, had it in for 45000k service. Piece of a snap ring that retains the gears on the shaft came out of the transfer case oil change on the magnetic plug. No other sworf/metal on there. Goes in for warranty in 6 days. Goes in and out of 4x4 fine, stays in 4H and 4L perfectly. Will update when they pull it out.
I have a 2013 manual SX Dmax 4x4 currently with 155,000 on the clock. Only issues so far was a slave cylinder replaced at around 80,000, a rattle in the dash (driver side) and in the driver side B pillar and one of the drive belts is a bit noisy on start up.
My thoughts on the panel cracking is. - : - a poorly installed snorkel. an access hole that is maybe a tad off position or has been just hacked into the panel. - a poorly installed bull bar. the bull bar is attached to the chassis. the body work is on the mounts you have mentioned. movement must be clear between these two items. any hitting or rubbing will transfer a load onto the inner panel and I believe contribute to the crack situation. both of these items cross from the chassis to body. two different structures. adequate clearance is required. you should be able to fit 2 fingers in-between the bull bar and any of the guarding. after my bull bar was installed PROFESSIONALLY , I had panel rub marks by the time we drove home. plus the inner wheel arch plastic was attached to both the body and chasses. so just run an eye over your panel clearance. the car body will move heaps on the chasses when in use.
Hi nick so if they change the turbo now the issue won’t come back hopefully? Because I have the siren sound on the turbo did they fix the issues on the new turbo ?
I noticed that you used to have a catch can fitted to the mux and now you no longer run a catch can that I could see. Can I ask if there was any reason why it has been removed? Thanks. I have a 2021 BT50 which has the 4JJ3 engine and still not convinced enough to fit one
Yep, 2019 MU-X - we are on our 3rd turbo so this problem rings very true.... Factory head unit (LSU) had a broken button, 12 weeks and they replaced under warranty is a "refurbished" unit - we will see how long that lasts. 🤫
Great video as always mate!! I have 2020 LST MUX which comes with a green dot. Around a month ago I started hearing this light whining sound, not sure what it was, then it starting getting louder. Was easiest to hear when taking off slowly(crawling). I took it to my dealer and they took some videos and send to Isuzu tech which said "its fine, it's within normal parameters", because of this they didn't change the turbo. They will only change when it gets worse and start sounding like a fire truck.
hello, nick! I watch your videos with great interest. My D Max 2017 has driven 100,000 and has not yet caused me serious problems. From what you have listed, I had problems with the belt of the air conditioner and I changed it. I'm waiting for new videos!!!
2016 (pre DPD) dmax LSM manual with around 80000kms. Only issue I have had so far is EGR - had to replace at around 70000kms. Need to check those body mounts now though.
Thanks Nick ya legend! Love how you show us the problems parts and explain how to fix them 👍 2015 MUX LST…no problems so far. I check for the body cracks from time to time…so far so good, but I’ll be checking out those mounts now too.
Great video. I have a 2021 mux only issue so far was airbag light coming on. Turns out there was a fault in the front passenger airbag, back of seat was replaced under warranty. Oil also goes black now after 1st service at 15000. Should I change oil at 7500.
My 2020 MY19 MUX ONYX edition has done 24000km and I’ve noticed that it now performs auto DPD regens before the level reaches the maximum levels which used to be after around 500kms. Now the auto regen process starts after about 2 to 3 bars on the soot level gauge and now at intervals a lot less than 500kms. Is this ok or should I be concerned. I live in the country and do regular driving at highway and freeway speeds for longish distances and try to avoid short trips.
That does sound a bit strange, it should regen when it hits Max bars. Couldn't hurt to ask your nearest isuzu dealer for advice and potentially get it checked.
I know some people get funny about replacing it with after market but an after market audio unit is going to be heaps better quality and probably have better features
HI NIck, love watching your videos, very helpful.... just to let you and other know I just had my turbo replaced under warranty on my 2019 Dmax at 93,000km (had the dreaded check engine light come on) all good now 😁
Hi Nick.A really great set of videos ,its never to late to learn. Two problems so far .2015 D Max Man 4x4 highride LS U. Half way around Oz in Perth rear springs went S shape. towing 2ton caravan ball weight 192-225Kg. Had Pedders fit heavy duty springs and shocks around 45000Km. I think their was a recall but did not take it up.75000 now on the clock [yes we are retired] and only saged 5 mm.other problem front wheels camber/caster scrubbing tyres fixed at around 65000km but I see right hand side is out of spec.[must buy a digital level] NB tub capacity is 1 Ton which includes weight of tub and canopy.Again many thanks for you videos.Kind regards Bill Park Newcastle
Gday Nick, thanks for the great content keep it coming, I had the noise as you described, almost bell like, thought it was ringing in my ears ...Hit it with some lube as advised, first drive seems to have cured it..cheers mate!!
I havnt had a turbo issue on my 2017 dmax. But both my work vehicles had the issue same with turbo. My aircon condenser broke in mine and had that replaced under warranty
Hey mate, what happened when that broke? My air con in my 2017 dmax has recently stopped working and has a hissing noise. Trying to figure out if I need it re gassed
The wheel squeak is really annoying. It sounds like when you smack belt on the bed but really fast. Got a dealer take care of it a years ago and it still coming back. They said they don't know why. There is also an issue of cracking on the small spolier-like-thing above the rear window. It seems like the plastic were designed a little bit too small but they install it anyway. We've had that replaced a year ago but it happens again after a few months. Another issue is a fail on pulling motor for the trunk door. It is an automatic door that when closed, there is another motor that pulls the door. This pulling motor is broken so the trunk is not flat with the body of the car. Also replaced them a few months ago but it cannot be as perfect as when the car was brand new, there is still some visible gap. The last problem I've had is the plastic chrome on the trunk door almost fall off. I myself don't really understand the cause of this. My guess is either the glue was not strong enough (if it use glue) or the design is not perfect so the plastic chrome can't seat perfectly on the body. They already fixed this and it's been fine for now. Tbh I'm quite dissapointed with these issues as we bought this car brand new on 2018. When I was a kid, Isuzu was highly appreciated for how durable it is. At least my Mu-x has the engine that could use cheap diesel so we still keep the car. If not because of that, we gonna sell that piece of garbage and drive our 0 problem 2015 Accord.
Got a Dmax LS 2017 MT 3.0 with turbo engine. During my last oil change, the diagnostic mechanic noticed the front stabilizer link was loose. He asked me if they are making funny rattling noises and I told him I did not really notice or hear any noise. But perhaps sometimes when steering sharply, I hear some cracking noise. I wanted to replace those stabilizer link but is that what really make those noises? Another problem is the reverse sensors go berserk when backing up during heavy rainfall. I always had to spray WD 40 inside the sensors to keep it moist free.
Hey Guys! If you are having issues with the Knuckle seals squealing/singing at highway speeds, check out this video - th-cam.com/video/7sR1WRoXuEM/w-d-xo.html
If you would like to upgrade your body mounts check out my latest video - th-cam.com/video/LWh6TNq8GOA/w-d-xo.html
Sounds like you have had alot of issues!
Thanks Nick had a turbo replacement at 23 k my2017 dmax done 45 so far no more issues am very happy with it
Thanks for your informative vids on Isuzu MUX.
I got it replaced by a local mechanic and haven't had that problem since
Loving my dmax and wouldn't buy anything else!
On how many ks did this happen?
@@marcowolfart1987 just over 200,000km
Isuzu warranty is the worst I’ve seen.
How did you pick this? Do you have any photos of the cracks?
@@ashdivakaran9664 I noticed a rattling sound I couldn’t work out for a while and then seen cracks near the vehicle VIN number plate. I was going to make a video on it, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
@@ignitionoffroad5028 that sucks, hopefully they fix it under warranty, there’s a class action over it.
I’ve had no luck getting them to fix my 2020 DMax with bad tyre wear
Where do I start…
2020 Isuzu MU-X LST
Turbo blew at 20,000KM
I then decided to modify it heavily, my CV’s have been a nightmare, I’ve gone through 2 sets with the lift.
Replaced the head unit myself with a Pioneer 6350BT, best mod I’ve done to the vehicle…love it, high def screen, responsive and CarPlay, smaller 7” screen is no issue due to the much improved definition…
what happened to the turbo bro
Yep what were your turbo symptoms you experienced before warranty work?
We have a 2016 Mux just did 90k service it does some light of road mainly highway never had an issue we love it 👍
On my 2021 Dmax I got a Pedders pre rego GVM upgrade to 3.4t, removed the tub, installed a Norweld tray & canopy with an Enerdrive 12v system and 130L upright Bushman fridge.
@@kirstycrack2029 yes. PM me for any more info requests
@@tonyp4665 hi Tony, thanks I would like to pm you but unsure how to do so?
Thanks Nick, explained my 2018 MUX turbo problem exactly. My warranty was 3 days short of the 5 years and 350klm over the 130,000 but the dealership replaced it no problems, all covered by them. Gotta love a happy ending.
Great news!
Hi
Great video,
About 4000km in on a new MUX MY19 LSU had a sensor that selects 2wd/4wd H/L come loose with no real reason for it to happen.
I did follow up and
Got $200 voucher from RAC for out of pocket costs which was better than nothing although not easy.
We were very lucky we didn't go up north as we had originally planned otherwise we would completely stuffed.
Still love my Muxy!
Just be aware that roadside assit 24/7
365 doesn't have to include after hours, weekends or school holidays hire cars or emergencyaccommodation.
Anyway keep up the great work
Cheers
Johny
Mate, thanks for the info. I've noticed a police siren sound and did not know it was a issue
disappointed in the turbo issues currently on the third turbo second one with the green dot ,still love the Dmax .keep an eye on boost pressure it’s a good early sign of the turbo issue
I just paid a deposit on a new D Max, hope these issues have been sorted by Isuzu.
Very common particularly with auto's
Great video, now I have my checklist!!!😅
The head unit issue I found was the navigation micro disk . As I had the very same issue and I rectified it when I replaced the card .
Do you still have the crappy locally manufactured electrical components or do you get the better Jap stuff? Alternators etc?
Thanks Nick

Definitely drive belt which drove me nuts I had a 2016 LSU MUX
Had it for 5 years and Di 110k
Never missed a beat soooooo reliable
I have now bought a 21 xterrain and love it but just only 10 k

I actually had vibration issues after a 2" lift, but mine is a manual transmission dmax. I had to put an 1" spacer in the tailshaft bearing to level it. Vibrations were eliminated.
Enjoy videos Nick. Mine has just started the turbo squeal, funnily enough the same day I watched this video. Just booked it in to be looked at. Thanks for that.
I’ve had the front right thrust washer repacked after a terrible squeal and now turbo booked in to be replaced at 41000klm, 2019 LST.
Terrible...
Under consumer law you have a case push it mate
Thanks James. Morale is pretty broken after all this but we’re not going down without a fight. Just a long wait time for the hearing now thanks to Covid but we’ll get there.
Nick ...Just to be aware of one more issue on Isuzu and I love mine, My Dmax LSU 2015 they can shit the A/C evaporater as where the evap pies come in to the engine bay there is no support for the pipes which the hoses join onto and this flexes the pipes on the evaporater and they drop their gas. There is a bloke in queensland who 3D prints a support bracket for the firewall
which helps stop this happenning about $85.Cheers Johnno
Long time!! was waiting to listen to you for months now :) like always, great stuff!!
Thank you Great video as usual 👌 keep it up! Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thanks, Nick the aircon belt makes a fair bit of noise on my 2018 d max
After watching this episode, problem solve, mate keep the videos coming, your doing really well.
I finally know what the ringing squeak is! I will be lubricating that seal tomorrow :) thank you!
Alternative (permanent) fix is installation of AISIN free wheeling hubs
Great vid my 2018 dmax has had turbo replaced under warranty at around 50k
Same same, mine was around 40k, fixed by Isuzu no questions asked.
Nick your engine bay is always immaculate. Can you do a video on how you clean/degrease your engine bay. I’m always cautious with cleaning the engine bay and doing it safely so I don’t damage anything
Hey Mick, that's a great idea! You are pretty safe with the Isuzu as the ecu is inside the vehicle. I just hit it with the gerni after 4wding.
Thanks for the great infoNick. I experienced the noisy AC fan belt at 140 Km on my ‘15 MUX LST and had it replaced only for the same belt self destruct 3 months later.
Just noticed recently my body has that crack right through near the vin plate is it a factory issue from those body mounts not being replaced?
Haven’t heard of any turbo issues with the non dpf models 16 and earlier only heard of the 17s and newer with the turbo issue
My wife's MuX 2013 had a major turbo fail very early immediately after a service . Servicing malfunction!!!
Did you figure it out ?
I had steering rack replaced at 20,000 after all the fluid leaked. Also turbo, replaced at same time. Dealer was good as it had just had a tune.
It's really bugging me
@@alanthomson5331 hmm very wierd! Sorry I can't be of much more help.
@@LowRangeNick Thanks Nick. I'll be pestering the dealership.
I tend to agree with body mounts causing the cracks, is there a upgrade or better version of these body mounts? I personally think the rubber is to soft, maybe that why the ride is so comfortable
Apparently Colorado ones fit and they are larger and stronger.
Also had a turbo replaced within a few months, Isuzu Newcastle were super good out and in within a few hours. Otherwise it's been a beast.
I have a 2013 manual SX Dmax 4x4 currently with 155,000 on the clock. Only issues so far was a slave cylinder replaced at around 80,000, a rattle in the dash (driver side) and in the driver side B pillar and one of the drive belts is a bit noisy on start up.
The oil and filter is replaced religiously every 10,000km
My thoughts on the panel cracking is. - :
- a poorly installed snorkel. an access hole that is maybe a tad off position or has been just hacked into the panel.
Had same problem with Isuzu bull bar fitted by Isuzu dealer. 3 attempts and is almost right. NOT happy
I've had heaps of issues with dpf in my 2017 dmax interested in your thoughts regards peter
Great advice 👍cheers big ears I'll be watching my 2021 shemax more closely from now on.
Great vid mate. Have the MY18 LSM. Just over 80K on her now and no issuse with the head unit.
My wife has a my19 lst just under 60k and we have had 3 head units replaced and still the same issue that being said still the best car out there
Are the cracks in the front engine bay and underneath considered a manufacturing defect?
Hi nick so if they change the turbo now the issue won’t come back hopefully? Because I have the siren sound on the turbo did they fix the issues on the new turbo ?
Yes, the problem has been resolved with the most recent turbo replacement.
I noticed that you used to have a catch can fitted to the mux and now you no longer run a catch can that I could see. Can I ask if there was any reason why it has been removed? Thanks. I have a 2021 BT50 which has the 4JJ3 engine and still not convinced enough to fit one
I removed it to have the latest turbo replaced.
Could be a intercooler hose. Might have a slight split in it maybe
hello, nick! I watch your videos with great interest. My D Max 2017 has driven 100,000 and has not yet caused me serious problems. From what you have listed, I had problems with the belt of the air conditioner and I changed it. I'm waiting for new videos!!!
Good thing I saw this as I’m looking at buying a UTE. Will give these a miss then👍😮
Diff wedges for 2 piece tail shaft manual to align the diff after lift to stop vibration
Thankyou looking at 2nd hand one similar model to yours. Very informative. Confirmed the head unit problem I heard briefly.
awesome work Nick thankyou just wondering if any of these issues are relavent on post 2021 models cheers
I'm not too sure about Wether the issues will carry on to the new models or not. I guess only time will tell haha
Great video. I have a 2021 mux only issue so far was airbag light coming on. Turns out there was a fault in the front passenger airbag, back of seat was replaced under warranty.
Oil also goes black now after 1st service at 15000.
Should I change oil at 7500.
Hey Daniel, it's normal for diesel vehicles to turn the oil black. This is due to egr, dpfs and the carbon created from diesel fuel.
Got Isuzu Dmax you were talking about cracks mine has cracked under the battery mount still trying to solve it with Izuzu
My RC Colorado 2010 4jj1 still strong over 300k But I do have a squeal offside front wheel at times
Which model years had the turbo issues? We own a MuX and a DMax
DPF models. 2016.5 untill 2020
Great video, following from SAUDIA ARABIA
I know some people get funny about replacing it with after market but an after market audio unit is going to be heaps better quality and probably have better features
Nick did you put a catch can on your motor?
Yep, I put a provent 200 on my mu-x.
There is a news article out just now about a Law firm looking for people with the cracking issues to come forward for class action
Great video! Do you know what what it costs to fix the front panel trim cracks if buying used with no warranty?
I'm guessing it would be an insurance job if you didn't have any warranty. I could only guess how much it would cost. I reckon between 5 and 10k.
@@LowRangeNick wow that's crazy. Thank you
@30,000ks, DPF differential pressure sensor. Replaced under warranty.
HI NIck, love watching your videos, very helpful.... just to let you and other know I just had my turbo replaced under warranty on my 2019 Dmax at 93,000km (had the dreaded check engine light come on) all good now 😁
That's great! Thanks a lot for the message 🙂
That's great news Jerry! Thanks alot for watching 😊
Hello, what is the right oil for double gear?
I have a 2017 D-max, Air conditioner failed at 72000ks and had the evaporator coil replaced under warranty. Been told its a common fault
Hey Nick can you take us through the set up of light bar or have u done it already cheers
I have a video on my channel showing you how to do it. 😊
Love your channel mate !!
Thanks a lot! Appreciate it 😀
Great Job on the Vidz
Kudos
