Ya, the first games were goofy but fun. The second one is like a needle filled with bright colors and Saturday morning cartoons that gets shoved into Isaac clarke's eye ball.
I think he used the wrong word to describe it, he meant they were a little more serious and not as goofy cartoony lookin ridiculous character models. Part 1 and part 2 definitely were more serious with the badass tracks and insane difficulty and darker colors.
Croteam actually didn't want to develop ss2 the way it did. 2K forced them to take the age rating as far down as possible for the sake of sales. Croteam themselves stated that they would love to come back to ss2 and make it the way they originally planned.
@Jesse H. Serious Sam 2 pretty much ended up being cartoony thanks to 2K Interactive. The whole game was not Croteam's intended vision. Not sure if GGGMan knows that, though.
I'm always a bit sad when people shit on Serious Sam 2. Sure, it's weird, it has some scenes with awkward humor, ugly character models, and occasionally bad level design with boring fights... BUT overall it's still a very nice game. It's generally fun to play, it can sometimes be fucking hilarious, and it has very diverse environments with beautiful graphics (even today) and awesome music.
I LOVE the serious sam series and have played them all many times over. Most of the hate for SS2 is from people who cant get over the childish graphics. Their loss imo. If you look past the graphics and silly characters, the gunplay and environments in Serious Sam 2 are awesome. The level variety, the world specific enemies, plasma gun, grenades (huge pro - grenades are perfect for wave enemy games), vehicles etc all rock. It's got some of the most difficult sections in the series and the bonus levels are just nuts.
I feel like it's one of those games that anyone who owned a 360 as a kid remembers very fondly. Serious Sam was a bargain bin game, which I remember plenty of their ilk on PSX as a tween in the 90s. Indie wasn't as possible as it is today due to the need of physical copies, so bargain bin games were important for us poor folk back in the day lol. I didn't play Serious Sam until this year, I was told they were 3D relics doing a bad Doom/Duke impression - which couldn't have been further from the truth lol. The gameplay feels less FPS than any FPS ever made, they're really unique!
the sheer amount of variety in Serious Sam 2 alone makes it worth playing, its actually a fun game and long one too. I would take another SS game like 2 any day, rather than what they did to SS3.

I heard good things about it but i just can't get over the realistic visuals it doesn't fit with the wacky tone of the game, even though the first game was somewhat realistic, it still was more fun to look at than 3 and 4. Might check it out with a heavy discount.

I completely agree. If anything, the sequel seemed to take the elements of silliness present in the first game (screaming headless enemies? Scorpions with machine guns for hands?) and expand upon them. I think The Second Encounter is honestly where the series started to develop its personality anyways, so to compare Serious Sam 2 to The First Encounter is analogous to comparing Timesplitters Future Perfect to Timesplitters 1. Impressive for the time maybe, but hardly the defining game in the series.
To be fair,unreal two is probably the most worldbuilding we'll ever get about the UT universe,I wished wed get to see the skarrj wars,I wish we'd get to see the Liandri robotic rebellion,but unfortunately a story in the universe may never see the light of day because everyone just wants the arena shooter
And they didn't even get the Arena Shooter. Epic were making a new Unreal Tourney, but then...well yeah, Fortnite happened. But then Quake Champions is probably going to kill the Arena Shooter for a while because of how bad it is, so you never know.

It really belongs on the top of the list. FEAR 2 was a bit disappointing for dumbing down the gameplay in favour of story, but FEAR 3 is just not FEAR at all.
Idk, as bad as FEAR 3 was I think it had better gunplay than FEAR 2. It was like the only good thing about it, but FEAR 1 and 2 were overall much better.
@@ComradeScrungus The story was good, the presentation was top notch, the gunplay was great, but the issue was the level design was too linear to allow the AI to maneuever and outflank you or allow routes for you to outflank them, which made fights a lot less fun than FEAR 1. I like FEAR 2. But gameplay wise, it's a definite downgrade from the first game.

ironically enough, my first SS2 was my first time with the series, and I was super disappointed when I played the originals that they are not colorful or whacky :P
@Charlie Vetsworth Regardless of Serious Sam 3's quality as a game, it's tone was very different. It was much gritter than he still relatively campy originals, in both the amount of violence and strong language, as well as it's art direction and visuals. 3 has a much muddier color palette than the last two, and a lot of the camp from the original \s is absent. It doesn't ruin the game at all, but it is a very major tonal change.
Honestly, I loved the story in Wolfenstein II. The failed prison-break followed by the decapitation scene will stay with me forever, great GREAT stuff. The difficulty spikes is a valid argument, I agree, but I just love the story.

I thought the opposite. Old Duke From Duke3D was suffering from chronic depression due to his time on the force, so he had to visit strip joints to ease the pain and act tough to mask it. Then Forever, he found fame and a fountain of youth which he saw as a second chance of life. This is when he builds all these casinos, strip clubs, Duke Dome so the world doesn't forget him. His autobiography titled Why I'm So Great was doing crap, but he paid publishers to advertise it a lot and finally became relevent after 18 years.
I remember loving Medal of Honor: Warfighter when it came out. Albeit, I was 11 when it came out and I was in my emo phase and took everything *super* seriously. I loved the multiplayer a ton, but I remember jack shit about the campaign.
Yeah, the tonal Shift in Serious Sam 2 was weird, and the Game had it's Flaws, But i still had heaps of Fun with my Friends in Coop. Todd Howard told me that is a valid Argument. :D Great Video as usual !
You seem to be pretty annoyed by people disagreeing with your opinions. Normally I'd agree with you about people being too sensitive, but I skipped Soma for 3 years because of your review, and when I finally only played it because it was free on GOG, I found it had one of the most memorable game stories I've ever experienced. I'm not saying you should put up with online abuse from assholes who can't understand criticism, but turning your comments section into an echo chamber by trying to preemptively shut down differing opinions just doesn't seem healthy, and it certainly doesn't benefit the people who are genuinely trying to find out whether or not they should play a game.
GGGman is an easily wounded high strung head in the clouds clown. He thinks anyone opposing any of his views or opinions is abuse. I mean fucking look at him, he hearts comments that blindly agree and praise him. That's the mark of a content creator with their head stuck squarely up their own arse. He's insecure and needs to constantly remind himself that people agree with him, and that insecurity makes his videos worse and worse because in reality, even he isn't sure what he actually thinks about these games. His popularity made him a figurehead and he's burning down with it. I quit watching his videos in late 2015, but unless he's actually gotten better since, his reviews aren't even that great. He has a very static perspective, considers his opinion to be word of law, and when he has nothing else to say, he says the AI is bad.

Serious Sam 2's development supposedly received a LOT of interference from Take 2 games. Which is why it is more cartoony then the first game. Croteam has actually disowned the game, and have stated for a few years now that they want to make a 'new' Serious Sam 2 that will make the one we currently have, non- cannon.

Kindergarten humor isn't what everyone would enjoy after first one. It's like, you serve people a nice plate, but then give them babyfood next day. I'd like games to have gritty and serious tone, but also have comedic reliefs here and there, tossing whole "serious, not serious" theme around in balanced way. And comedy should have more thoughts put into it, not bunch of first grade poop jokes. I think SS3 did a good job on this. Humor was good, and it wasn't taking itself too seriously like some say, because one liners and cutscenes would always break that to remind you that you're playing Serious Sam, not COD.

First encounter appeared quite serious though if you read through netrissa's messages, while Second encounter was lot more silly, but still on enjoyable levels. SS3, took place on "modern day" Earth, which involved some realism and thus needed to be serious. Although that kind setting, Sam was still Sam. I would love if they made SS2 remake to be an actual sequel to Second encounter and not entirely own thing. Or just call it SS2: The Final encounter.
Peruvian here. I still remember the frustration my best friend and I felt in 1997 with Blood 2. Back then we had no internet so we only found out about it via videogame magazines imported from the US every now and then so the excitement and hype build up was really intense... I remember the awesome pictures and interviews bragging about the improved gameplay, master horror music and theme, and the like. But when the moment to play it came, it was an incredibly underwhelming experience compared to its 'better and crispier' predecesor 😐 Broken difficulty curves, less complex and more lineal levels, and ineffective weapons to mention a few. Interestingly enough, I now believe the whole game could be turned into an amazing comic or graphic novel. Also,1:33 I died 😂
I would suggest checking out ZBlood, and yes, Atari (Warner Brothers) is doing a remaster of the original game ( I hope they add in the two official expansion packs as well). What I'm psyched about is that Night Dive announced it will have Vulkan support...!
No. For a variety of reasons, that's not the case. Sierra wasn't that well know until Larry became (in)famous. King's Quest 1 and 2 were actually extremely bad selling games, because they were originally only released for the IBM PC Jr. which was a monumental failure. And Computer games at that time simply weren't big sellers because the market was very small. It wasn't until 1987 when those 2 games were released for IBM PC & Compatibles (DOS) that they started to sell and made the franchise a success. The best selling game in the 80's in the series was KQ4 released in 1988 selling a total of about 300.000 copies. King's Quest only really exploded with the following games, that sold a lot (King's Quest's total sales until march 1996 were about 3.8 million with 7 games) Space Quest actually never was that big of a seller. Until march 1996 the entire series (6 games) only sold about 1.2 million units. Which is the same number Police Quest achieved until 1996 but with just 5 games (the first Swat is included and that was still a relatively new game at that time) Leisure Suit Larry sold 250.000 within just the first 6 months on the market, even though inital sales were low since most shops in the US simply refused to carry such a "obscene" game but word of mouth and massive piracy (As Ken Williams later stated, Sierra actually sold more Hint Books for the game, than the game itself) made the game extremely well known and helped putting Sierra on the front of Adventure games. Total sales of the first 5 (as famously the 4th game was never made) in march 1996 surpassed 3 million units.
I thought Unreal II was decent, and I appreciated the cinematics. But it was different enough from the first game I could see how it could be disappointing.
Red Faction 2, funnily enough Red Faction Armageddon was just as disappointing sequel when compared Red Faction Guerilla obviously they not FPS games though.
Serious Sam 2 was one of the first FPS games I played on PC back in the day. I remember enjoying the hell out of it and poured hours into it. Having played the other entries since and although it doesn't hold up as well but still look back on it fondly and holds great significance as one of my earliest memories of PC gaming. Awesome video as always G.

I agree with all the criticism on Blood 2, yet I enjoyed it in a nice and relaxing way. It was definitely not as wild, creative or awesome looking as the first, but fun enough.
I 100% agree with your assessment of 'Call Of Juarez', but I don't want devs "double checking" everything and removing anything that could be 'taken the wrong way by some people". It doesn't matter what you do, people will find something that offends them.
I begged for my parents to upgrade my computer so I could play unreal 2 at launch. I had a magazine with a preview of it and they were saying things like "each blade of grass will be influenced by the wind" couldn't be more disappointed when I finally bought it.
I played through Unreal 2, I got it on a Friday and other that weekend end I completed it twice. At the time I thought it was great, I played through it many times.

GGGman: Unreal got an expansion pack that is generally considered pretty lackluster. Also GGGman: Unreal 2 was developed By Legend Entertainment, who worked on the awesome expansion pack for the first game. :/ This is why we need Gman to review the rest of the Unreal games. He needs to explain himself.
I gotta be honest the car chases in Warfighter were amazing in my opinion. There were multiple times where I took what I thought was a wrong turn but corrected myself in a very cool and believable way. Plus, the destruction was great. Other than that I could’ve been sleeping and I would’ve been just as engaged.
For a while, I was wondering "when do we get to Daikatana?" and I had to remind myself that never had any sequels, it just felt so derivative in its only outing.
@@xaechireon Thief was a series that had incredible sound design, sprawling levels, good lore and was very gameplay driven ( few cutscenes, and even those were very artistic since they were stylized 2d cutscenes rather than just an in-game dialogue ). Thief 3 diluted some of that since it was made for the xbox. Thief 4 was a non-entity that shed all of the qualities integral to a good Thief game and became a generic ubisoft title. Bad lore, non-existent sound design, bad levels, nothing particularly interesting was added to the setting etc.
Uhm. I both like Wolfenstein II and Serious Sam 2. I loved Serious Sam 2 when it came out. Love how they changed it. I actually hate they remake it but more serious.
I tried my best to enjoy it. But even then, its was just boring most of times. I used cheats to get my movement speed up, and it began to feel more like Unreal and a bit fun, but that's until I finally gave up. Not so bad, but god damn mediocre. Footnote to how good Unreal 1 was, which led to disappointment and people calling it bad. Which is understandable, especially when there were hyped for it.
I'll always remember being a small child coming across Unreal 2 in some store or other and begging my dad to buy it because we both loved the first one so much only to be incredibly disappointed when he told me that our Windows 98 PC didn't meet the minimum required specs to run it. Nowadays I think it was for the best.
I actually really like Duke Nukem Forever. The modernizations weren’t annoying and the immature, irreverent humor was a breath of fresh air in the same year that Battlefield and Call of Duty really started their rivalry to see who can be the worst military shooter franchise.
The regenerating health and weapon limitations were slapped on real late in development, and it's a shame because it doesn't fit the tone and neither was the game designed with them in mind.
todesziege Probably, but their implementation is better than most. The regenerating health takes a lot of hits, so running and gunning is still viable. And the weapons all have full or near full reloads on single pickups, not to mention infinite ammo boxes fairly regularly, which means while I cannot carry every gun, the 4 guns I do carry end up getting a lot of use due to me worrying less about ammo. Spamming the Shrink Ray when I was near infinite ammo boxes was fun as hell.
My only problem was the 2 weapon limit, I heard on p.c they made it to where you could carry 4, but i only have it for ps3, but I still enjoyed it alot when it came out. Tried playing it again a month ago and was like damn this isnt as good as I remembered Haha.
@@jordanwright2313 If you like the game then the PC version is highly recommended. Better controls, better performance, better visuals, easier to find multiplayer games and then there's the 4 weapon limit which makes the combat much more fun. It's super cheap on sale, too.
@@todesziege Yeah the 4 weapon limit struck a nice balance for me. Ammo is much easier to acquire in DNF due to each individual pickup giving near full ammo and infinite ammo boxes appearing regularly, so the weapons you did carry could be used more, and switching between common weapons like the shotgun, Ripper cannon etc. was also easy due to only needing a single pickup to get full ammo. However, the 2 weapon limit was still too limiting as I could only dedicate one slot to regular weapons and one slot to a rarer weapon, like the Shrinker. With the 4 weapon limit, I could still dedicate one slot for regular weapons that I can just swap by picking up a different gun when needed, and then dedicate three slots for rarer guns, which meant I got to use those guns more than I even did in Duke3D, where the use of individual ammo pickups meant I was far more conservative with the more powerful weapons.
I miss playing Medal of Honor: Frontline. It was a buggy, clunky mess, but by jove it had so much heart. I ignored the rest of the series until the reboot dropped, which was abysmal. Sequels rarely have the same people with the same drive they had for the game before it. I would prefer new IPs over endless sequels, remakes, reboots, reimaginings, remasters, etc. Love you, Gg. I love what you've done with your channel.

Croteam actually didn't want to develop ss2 the way it did. 2K forced them to take the age rating as far down as possible for the sake of sales. Croteam themselves stated that they would love to come back to ss2 and make it the way they originally planned.
You also might design cauldrons that look an awful lot like brooms.

I'm always a bit sad when people shit on Serious Sam 2. Sure, it's weird, it has some scenes with awkward humor, ugly character models, and occasionally bad level design with boring fights...
BUT overall it's still a very nice game. It's generally fun to play, it can sometimes be fucking hilarious, and it has very diverse environments with beautiful graphics (even today) and awesome music.

I LOVE the serious sam series and have played them all many times over. Most of the hate for SS2 is from people who cant get over the childish graphics. Their loss imo. If you look past the graphics and silly characters, the gunplay and environments in Serious Sam 2 are awesome. The level variety, the world specific enemies, plasma gun, grenades (huge pro - grenades are perfect for wave enemy games), vehicles etc all rock. It's got some of the most difficult sections in the series and the bonus levels are just nuts.
I feel like it's one of those games that anyone who owned a 360 as a kid remembers very fondly. Serious Sam was a bargain bin game, which I remember plenty of their ilk on PSX as a tween in the 90s. Indie wasn't as possible as it is today due to the need of physical copies, so bargain bin games were important for us poor folk back in the day lol. I didn't play Serious Sam until this year, I was told they were 3D relics doing a bad Doom/Duke impression - which couldn't have been further from the truth lol. The gameplay feels less FPS than any FPS ever made, they're really unique!

the sheer amount of variety in Serious Sam 2 alone makes it worth playing, its actually a fun game and long one too. I would take another SS game like 2 any day, rather than what they did to SS3.

I heard good things about it but i just can't get over the realistic visuals it doesn't fit with the wacky tone of the game, even though the first game was somewhat realistic, it still was more fun to look at than 3 and 4. Might check it out with a heavy discount.

I completely agree. If anything, the sequel seemed to take the elements of silliness present in the first game (screaming headless enemies? Scorpions with machine guns for hands?) and expand upon them. I think The Second Encounter is honestly where the series started to develop its personality anyways, so to compare Serious Sam 2 to The First Encounter is analogous to comparing Timesplitters Future Perfect to Timesplitters 1. Impressive for the time maybe, but hardly the defining game in the series.

It really belongs on the top of the list. FEAR 2 was a bit disappointing for dumbing down the gameplay in favour of story, but FEAR 3 is just not FEAR at all.

@@ComradeScrungus The story was good, the presentation was top notch, the gunplay was great, but the issue was the level design was too linear to allow the AI to maneuever and outflank you or allow routes for you to outflank them, which made fights a lot less fun than FEAR 1.

Serious Sam 2 is an awesome game! We used to gather up and have lan parties playing in co op.
I really wish art direction wasn't making me uncomfortable and weirded out, its a solid Serious Sam-ing action.
It was really buggy though, and the cutscenes are horrible. For once it's a good thing that the cutscenes are skipped in co-op.
ironically enough, my first SS2 was my first time with the series, and I was super disappointed when I played the originals that they are not colorful or whacky :P

@Charlie Vetsworth Regardless of Serious Sam 3's quality as a game, it's tone was very different. It was much gritter than he still relatively campy originals, in both the amount of violence and strong language, as well as it's art direction and visuals. 3 has a much muddier color palette than the last two, and a lot of the camp from the original \s is absent. It doesn't ruin the game at all, but it is a very major tonal change.

Honestly, I loved the story in Wolfenstein II. The failed prison-break followed by the decapitation scene will stay with me forever, great GREAT stuff. The difficulty spikes is a valid argument, I agree, but I just love the story.
I wonder what made serious sam 2 so memorable... For some reason. the music. The themes were all so rpg levels of terrific.

I thought the opposite. Old Duke From Duke3D was suffering from chronic depression due to his time on the force, so he had to visit strip joints to ease the pain and act tough to mask it. Then Forever, he found fame and a fountain of youth which he saw as a second chance of life. This is when he builds all these casinos, strip clubs, Duke Dome so the world doesn't forget him. His autobiography titled Why I'm So Great was doing crap, but he paid publishers to advertise it a lot and finally became relevent after 18 years.
Duke Nukem Forever is Pitchford's attempt at making a macho, 80s style game and failing miserably.

You seem to be pretty annoyed by people disagreeing with your opinions. Normally I'd agree with you about people being too sensitive, but I skipped Soma for 3 years because of your review, and when I finally only played it because it was free on GOG, I found it had one of the most memorable game stories I've ever experienced.
I'm not saying you should put up with online abuse from assholes who can't understand criticism, but turning your comments section into an echo chamber by trying to preemptively shut down differing opinions just doesn't seem healthy, and it certainly doesn't benefit the people who are genuinely trying to find out whether or not they should play a game.
GGGman is an easily wounded high strung head in the clouds clown. He thinks anyone opposing any of his views or opinions is abuse. I mean fucking look at him, he hearts comments that blindly agree and praise him. That's the mark of a content creator with their head stuck squarely up their own arse. He's insecure and needs to constantly remind himself that people agree with him, and that insecurity makes his videos worse and worse because in reality, even he isn't sure what he actually thinks about these games. His popularity made him a figurehead and he's burning down with it.
I quit watching his videos in late 2015, but unless he's actually gotten better since, his reviews aren't even that great. He has a very static perspective, considers his opinion to be word of law, and when he has nothing else to say, he says the AI is bad.

Serious Sam 2's development supposedly received a LOT of interference from Take 2 games. Which is why it is more cartoony then the first game. Croteam has actually disowned the game, and have stated for a few years now that they want to make a 'new' Serious Sam 2 that will make the one we currently have, non- cannon.

Kindergarten humor isn't what everyone would enjoy after first one. It's like, you serve people a nice plate, but then give them babyfood next day.
I'd like games to have gritty and serious tone, but also have comedic reliefs here and there, tossing whole "serious, not serious" theme around in balanced way. And comedy should have more thoughts put into it, not bunch of first grade poop jokes.
I think SS3 did a good job on this. Humor was good, and it wasn't taking itself too seriously like some say, because one liners and cutscenes would always break that to remind you that you're playing Serious Sam, not COD.

First encounter appeared quite serious though if you read through netrissa's messages, while Second encounter was lot more silly, but still on enjoyable levels. SS3, took place on "modern day" Earth, which involved some realism and thus needed to be serious. Although that kind setting, Sam was still Sam.
I would love if they made SS2 remake to be an actual sequel to Second encounter and not entirely own thing. Or just call it SS2: The Final encounter.

Peruvian here. I still remember the frustration my best friend and I felt in 1997 with Blood 2.
Back then we had no internet so we only found out about it via videogame magazines imported from the US every now and then so the excitement and hype build up was really intense... I remember the awesome pictures and interviews bragging about the improved gameplay, master horror music and theme, and the like.
But when the moment to play it came, it was an incredibly underwhelming experience compared to its 'better and crispier' predecesor 😐
Broken difficulty curves, less complex and more lineal levels, and ineffective weapons to mention a few.
Interestingly enough, I now believe the whole game could be turned into an amazing comic or graphic novel.

I would say that Sierra was built on King's Quest and Space Quest, not Leisure Suit Larry, but ok.

No. For a variety of reasons, that's not the case. Sierra wasn't that well know until Larry became (in)famous.
King's Quest 1 and 2 were actually extremely bad selling games, because they were originally only released for the IBM PC Jr. which was a monumental failure. And Computer games at that time simply weren't big sellers because the market was very small. It wasn't until 1987 when those 2 games were released for IBM PC & Compatibles (DOS) that they started to sell and made the franchise a success. The best selling game in the 80's in the series was KQ4 released in 1988 selling a total of about 300.000 copies. King's Quest only really exploded with the following games, that sold a lot (King's Quest's total sales until march 1996 were about 3.8 million with 7 games)
Space Quest actually never was that big of a seller. Until march 1996 the entire series (6 games) only sold about 1.2 million units. Which is the same number Police Quest achieved until 1996 but with just 5 games (the first Swat is included and that was still a relatively new game at that time)
Leisure Suit Larry sold 250.000 within just the first 6 months on the market, even though inital sales were low since most shops in the US simply refused to carry such a "obscene" game but word of mouth and massive piracy (As Ken Williams later stated, Sierra actually sold more Hint Books for the game, than the game itself) made the game extremely well known and helped putting Sierra on the front of Adventure games. Total sales of the first 5 (as famously the 4th game was never made) in march 1996 surpassed 3 million units.
I thought Unreal II was decent, and I appreciated the cinematics. But it was different enough from the first game I could see how it could be disappointing.
Red Faction 2, funnily enough Red Faction Armageddon was just as disappointing sequel when compared Red Faction Guerilla obviously they not FPS games though.

Serious Sam 2 was one of the first FPS games I played on PC back in the day. I remember enjoying the hell out of it and poured hours into it. Having played the other entries since and although it doesn't hold up as well but still look back on it fondly and holds great significance as one of my earliest memories of PC gaming. I played through Unreal 2, I got it on a Friday and other that weekend end I completed it twice. At the time I thought it was great, I played through it many times.

nah i enjoyed it but thinking back The Old Blood was easily the best of the recent Wolfensteins.
GGGman: Unreal got an expansion pack that is generally considered pretty lackluster.
Also GGGman: Unreal 2 was developed By Legend Entertainment, who worked on the awesome expansion pack for the first game.
:/ This is why we need Gman to review the rest of the Unreal games. He needs to explain himself.
I thought new order was significantly better than collosus.
I gotta be honest the car chases in Warfighter were amazing in my opinion. There were multiple times where I took what I thought was a wrong turn but corrected myself in a very cool and believable way. Plus, the destruction was great. Other than that I could’ve been sleeping and I would’ve been just as engaged.

For a while, I was wondering "when do we get to Daikatana?" and I had to remind myself that never had any sequels, it just felt so derivative in its only outing.

Thief (2014) was the most disappointing sequel for me.
That wasn't a sequel, It was a reboot.

Thief was a series that had incredible sound design, sprawling levels, good lore and was very gameplay driven ( few cutscenes, and even those were very artistic since they were stylized 2d cutscenes rather than just an in-game dialogue ). Thief 3 diluted some of that since it was made for the xbox. Thief 4 was a non-entity that shed all of the qualities integral to a good Thief game and became a generic ubisoft title. Bad lore, non-existent sound design, bad levels, nothing particularly interesting was added to the setting etc.

Uhm. I both like Wolfenstein II and Serious Sam 2. I loved Serious Sam 2 when it came out. Love how they changed it. I actually hate they remake it but more serious.

UNREAL 2 is not THAT bad...
I enjoyed it , its a guilty pleasure
I tried my best to enjoy it. But even then, its was just boring most of times. I used cheats to get my movement speed up, and it began to feel more like Unreal and a bit fun, but that's until I finally gave up.
Not so bad, but god damn mediocre. Footnote to how good Unreal 1 was, which led to disappointment and people calling it bad. Which is understandable, especially when there were hyped for it.

It had a depressive ending, that took some balls.
I enjoyed 2 more than 1, because the first one has really boring maze like level design.
I'll always remember being a small child coming across Unreal 2 in some store or other and begging my dad to buy it because we both loved the first one so much only to be incredibly disappointed when he told me that our Windows 98 PC didn't meet the minimum required specs to run it. Nowadays I think it was for the best.
I actually really like Duke Nukem Forever. The modernizations weren’t annoying and the immature, irreverent humor was a breath of fresh air in the same year that Battlefield and Call of Duty really started their rivalry to see who can be the worst military shooter franchise.
The regenerating health and weapon limitations were slapped on real late in development, and it's a shame because it doesn't fit the tone and neither was the game designed with them in mind.
todesziege Probably, but their implementation is better than most. The regenerating health takes a lot of hits, so running and gunning is still viable. And the weapons all have full or near full reloads on single pickups, not to mention infinite ammo boxes fairly regularly, which means while I cannot carry every gun, the 4 guns I do carry end up getting a lot of use due to me worrying less about ammo. Spamming the Shrink Ray when I was near infinite ammo boxes was fun as hell.
My only problem was the 2 weapon limit, I heard on p.c they made it to where you could carry 4, but i only have it for ps3, but I still enjoyed it alot when it came out. Tried playing it again a month ago and was like damn this isnt as good as I remembered Haha.
@@jordanwright2313 If you like the game then the PC version is highly recommended. Better controls, better performance, better visuals, easier to find multiplayer games and then there's the 4 weapon limit which makes the combat much more fun. It's super cheap on sale, too.
@@todesziege Yeah the 4 weapon limit struck a nice balance for me. Ammo is much easier to acquire in DNF due to each individual pickup giving near full ammo and infinite ammo boxes appearing regularly, so the weapons you did carry could be used more, and switching between common weapons like the shotgun, Ripper cannon etc. was also easy due to only needing a single pickup to get full ammo. However, the 2 weapon limit was still too limiting as I could only dedicate one slot to regular weapons and one slot to a rarer weapon, like the Shrinker. With the 4 weapon limit, I could still dedicate one slot for regular weapons that I can just swap by picking up a different gun when needed, and then dedicate three slots for rarer guns, which meant I got to use those guns more than I even did in Duke3D, where the use of individual ammo pickups meant I was far more conservative with the more powerful weapons.

I miss playing Medal of Honor: Frontline. It was a buggy, clunky mess, but by jove it had so much heart. I ignored the rest of the series until the reboot dropped, which was abysmal. Sequels rarely have the same people with the same drive they had for the game before it. I would prefer new IPs over endless sequels, remakes, reboots, reimaginings, remasters, etc. Love you, Gg. I love what you've done with your channel.
