I love this guy as a player and also as a manager now. His sponge aptitude and learning from the best managers making him a top manager now.
Mourinho has endorsed him as he could be a good or even great managers, because Mourinho saw Xabi as someone who is quite smart on the field and could read the game, plus he was under Guardiola and Mourinho directly so he could learn and absorbed the knowledge directly.
Nice timing as usual, Sky Sports Retro.

@@simonpeyton-n3hYou said what? Xabi was always a starter for Spain since 2006 World Cup. It was only in Euro 2008 when he didn’t start most of the games because of some changes by Luis Aragones. When he used to start Xavi, Marcos Senna, Sylva and Iniesta. In 2006, Iniesta wasn’t even playing. Busquets started playing for Spain in 2010. Stop disrespecting Alonso. He started playing for Spain when Busquets was playing in the academy.
@@simonpeyton-n3h Is that a joke? Xabi Alonso was a nailed-down starter for Spain from 2006-2014. The only time he wasn't was in 2008 Euros that was down to the formation they went with (Busquets wasn't even playing then). He still played every game and he won a MOTM in 2008 Euros. In fact, when Spain was experimenting with 4-3-3 formations during the off seasons (2009, 2011, 2013) they picked Xabi Alonso over Busquets most of the time due to his ability to read the game better, better defending, and he has the best passing range in the national side (if not in Spanish history). Xabi Alonso is one of the best DMs for a reason. He has proven that time and time again across many different world class teams.

He's still the best passer of a ball in Leverkusen's training sessions. Whether or not they hang on to win the Bundesliga with a great first XI but a very thin squad is open to question but they are a delight to watch and a credit to his coaching ability. He has taken the defensive solidity and counter attacking of Mourinho and combined it with the ball movement and space creation of Guardiola so this was an insightful interview.
He's the best passer IV ever seen I member his debut for Liverpool he was spraying 60-70 yard passes like it was nothing then scored a free kick he was so good
With Torres, the most exciting player I have seen come to Anfield, both started with a bang

@@bagtea I´m Roma Fan I don´t like this tactics either, but we have so much injuries that we needed to defend like crazy. Almost all of our defense is injured (Llorente, Smalling, Kumbulla, Karsdorp) that a midfielder needed to go to the defense. Considering that (and the injury of Wijnaldum) Bove from our youth section needed to play in the midfield.
@@marcomairsorry for the inconvenience but I have a question, what is your opinion on sacking the special one?
Mourinho is a dinosaur, he only can play with a low block to exploit flat 4-4-2 era. Today’s football is dynamic and teams can change a few formations within a game. They dont fall for low block and lose the ball easily for fast counter attacks.
And now Xabi is the best this season

Guardiola style demands a specific type of player.
Barca team at that time fit his style perfectly. He created one of the best team ever. This team will be remembered for decades to come.
Bayern team did not and combined with lack of funds from the board, he could not do much. Dominate the local competition but mediocre in Champions League. His Bayern team will not be remembered unlike his Barca team.
Man City with unlimited funds helps Guardiola to find the right players for his style. The last 2-3 years he perfected the team and got unlucky when lost to Real Madrid. This year is the time to complete his project in Man City, to win the Champions League. Guardiola style is still there but it's not the same like in Barca. Xavi, Iniesta and Busquet are rare players and hard to find players that can play like them.
Barca team back then is of legendary quality in terms of talent and footballing intangibles, regardless of who the manager is. They'll make the manager instead of the manager making them
The players at Bayern were more of a Pep type of players than at City... Kompany, Otamendi, Delph, Fernandinho, Walker, Sterling, Ake and others i might have forgotten, are not traditionally a Pep type of players. He adapted to these players and made them better. Go back and look at that Bayern team and you'll see for yourself.
You people keep bringing unlucky every time , do you even see that mancity side winning against Liverpool at that champions league final
With calling out Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets as rare players, you would almost forget Messi😉
His Byern side were playing the best football Europe for a while. He got couple of batterings ut that can happen with high risk football. That dressing room is also difficult. They complained to demanding then complained Ancelloti not demanding enough.
And now he is a legend in making as a manager himself
Like Alonso said that barca side was a beast and only a mastermind can destroy that team and it was Mourinho who did it his real madrid side destroyed the league with most number of points and goals scored .
Mourinho will only get his credit for that the day he retires or dies, people are really dismissing and downplaying what he did in Madrid. Barca was dominating world football at that time and Mourinho broke that. I don't think any other coach would have done it, not even Ferguson.
Exactly. The man holds the record for most goals ever in a season in laliga, yet people call him a defensive manager...

What a professional his career in player and coach!
Everyone has their own point of view. But to me Mourinho is better than Guardiola after all he's done with Porto (UCL), Chelsea (first EPL in 5 decades), Inter (1st ever Italian Treble), Madrid (breaking Barcelona's domination in La Liga), MU (Shield, Eufa and Carling) and Roma now. Not to mention that he achieved most of those prestigious titles mostly with senior players that were not in their prime. That's what a football manager is.

Mourinho is a great manager but Porto on Portuguese level is a big spender. The season they won the UCL no historic team made it to the semis. Chelsea spent billions and he won, Inter a big spending team that won 3 straight serie a before he came, Madrid biggest spenders in history and he didn’t stop anything. Saying he is better than Pep means you like pragmatic defensive style of football. Those who love the beautiful game will pick Pep over Jose.
