The captain giving a lecture on ship navigation is one of the coolest things I've ever heard of onboard a cruise. That would make me consider a voyage by itself
I would definitely love to see a video on how public space keeps getting cordoned off in favor of exclusive spaces. Like with the upcoming Utopia of the Seas, they removed the public spaces above the bridge wings and turned that into a suite, taking away that genuinely cool area for every other guest on board.
It'd also be super interesting to see the level of upselling/upcharging a suite passenger. I understand it more towards cheaper rooms but how much does it happen in the premium and restricted access area?
@homiga1 He can do a video, short answer is yes and no. For our 30th wedding anniversary we splurged for an entry level Sky suite. It does eliminate some of the annoying upcharges, like the retreat lounge is fully stocked with all the fancy water, premium drink package, wifi, butler, light apps & snacks, and of course the private restaurant Luminae, you can also go to Blu. Includes priority boarding etc. In general, I didn't feel upsell pressure however there are always the "do you want to upgrade more opportunities" 😅 Before boarding email asking did we want the next level up suite? Nope. During dinner there was a wine tasting experience offered for a fee, we said no. I never felt pressured but yes some opportunities to upcharge. We went to Eden for dinner which is a separate fee but it was delicious. No complaints except I was too full to eat dessert.
18:18 I'm definitely interested to hear more! Seems like our economy's newest frontier is finding ways to group everyone into classes and charge each group as much as possible.

@@sean_king to me, this infinite veranda is the worst screwup since NCL did some weird toilet and shower out in the middle of the cabin thing on one of their ships. In the caribbean, it's just a nice sunroom--but you can't comfortably open it for fresh air.
We just got off Icon of the Seas on a Mexico itinerary in a similar infinite balcony room. We found that closing the curtains significantly reduced the amount of heat that made it into the rest of the cabin. Same. We were on the sister ship, Apex, and loved it. We splurged and had an entry level suite so that unlocks 🔑 all the floors, lounges, etc. I don't think, though, for Alaska it would be worth it. I usually have no problem with "Ship within Ship" spaces, but they are getting to the point where 3-4 decks are for higher members only and they get higher quality everything. i feel like its getting out of hand.
They are paying a premium price for the "ship within a ship" experience. Often 3-4 times the amount of a standard balcony cabin. If people are willing to pay it, why is it getting out of hand? The cruise lines will continue to build ships similar to the Edge, and the newer ships in that class have even larger suite only spaces. It's amazing and luxurious, a great way to get away from the crowds.

Wonder if Disneys is still the most expensive. also wonder if any companies have egregiously bad reward system /loyalty club perks. seems like those have gone downhill in the recent times too. even that "concierge" status screams ripoff.
We did Holland America at about the same time. It was definitely a quieter cruise, but pretty fantastic. There were multiple enrichment lectures in front of huge video walls about indigenous people, the Iditarod along with other subjects. Movies on deck (covered with retractable roof) were mostly Disney nature documentaries. We sailed Glacier Bay and picked up multiple park rangers that hung out on decks to point out wildlife and answer questions. There was also a ranger on the PA system pointing out things of interest. While sailing glacier bay, soup was served around the ship, a pretty cool touch. The dining room featured Alaskan Salmon dishes nightly. There was a fishing excursion where if you caught fish, a chef would prepare them for your dinner on board. This is also my first Alaskan cruise and I think that Holland America knocked it out of the park. There was little to no up-selling that I could see.
Great review. I am a little baffled why Jake continues to dismiss Holland America in his videos when he hasn’t tried them, and while they’re certainly not the best option in every market, they are the best in Alaska. I’m sailing on them again soon and can’t wait.
I did the Volendam last year, which is one of their smallest ships. Was a very traditional cruising experience. Cosy and laid back. Ship was nice, as was the room, and as you said, the lectures were great, as was the itinerary. You could really tell the hotel department staff were inexperienced though. Slow service, and not that friendly compared to other cruises I've been on. The boarding process at Vancouver was also agonizingly slow. Princess really has it down to a fine art, which is odd considering they're both owned by Carnival.
@@MmntechCa this year in Vancouver, check-in was very quick. They gave us boarding times since there was a second ship boarding at the same time. Having all of those DIY kiosks (with lots of people around to help) really moved things along. The pier staff really kept people moving and headed in the right direction. The crew on the Konningsdam was fantastic and efficient. The cruise definitely felt more traditional which we really liked, the crew very personable.
I *hate* the "ship within a ship" thing. There is nowhere non-retreat tier guests to get a view facing forward out of the ship, let alone outdoors. I'm sorry I don't have $20,000 to drop on a cruise, but we all deserve at least one front facing public area.
We were on Edge from Sydney in April 2024. We both agree that the beds were too firm and causing numbness in both our arms. Bad weather in the Southern ocean caused passengers to congregate inside on sea days so all areas were crowded. The Mast Grill lacked any sauces to go with their burgers or hot dogs. The Eden Cafe was packed out whenever we tried to eat there.
I was on Crown Princess back in may and the last port was Victoria, Canada where I saw the Celebrity Edge docked after we were docked at port. The bright and neon lights on that ship at night was quite a beautiful view to look at , which makes me want to sail on celebrity one day :)
you are by far my favourite travel reviewer. there are many cruise and travel 'influencers' with larger audiences who could learn a thing or two from you! keep up the great work. the shots leaving vancouver looked stunning!
YUS! A new travel review! I was waiting for this after watching all of your reviews, some of those more than once. It's by *far* the best travel reviews I have ever seen, I hope you will take many more vacations! Thank you for your videos.
Love these videos. Been a fan of your main channel since 2018, and while I love the videos there, your travel videos are some of my favourites. Super entertaining and informative, with great camerawork.
We found that sailing in a Sky Suite (Celebrity’s smallest suite) was very roomy. The food in Luminae was gourmet quality and the service was top shelf. A superior product compared to Concierge Class on Disney.
I remember my Alaskan cruise. It was truly unforgettable. It was 10 days on the Crown Princess. The dichotomy of being on a luxury ship surrounded by untamed wilderness was a weird feeling. What was nice about that ship was the promenade does wrap around all the way to the tip of the bow, and it had a nice room all the way on top and aft of the ship that is like a second bridge. I remember sitting up there while the ship steamed away from Skagway and seeing the incredible views of the valley. We also did the 360-degree spin near the glacier, and I remember spending a lot of time on the bow promenade in my wind breaker to take in the views. Even being sick for the first couple of days from the flight didn't take away from my experience.
The segmenting of space into premium/standard is deeply problematic because the lines control both sides of the equation - the more they crowd the standard spaces, the more you feel incentive to pay for premium. There literally is no downside for them to continue and expand this trend. Until passengers revolt and push back by simply not booking. Unlikely to happen anytime soon. You absolutely should deep dive on this, and I would love to see articles spun off your story that bring the practice into question.
As a Cruise Consultant ... I HATE the 'ship within a ship' concept. Theyre getting so extreme now. Theyre starting to feel like first class and steerage from Titanic days
Don’t know if you will ever see this comment but thank you for the comforting videos! I feel like I’ve binged this channel a couple times in the past year or so whenever I’ve been in a rut! I’ll always support you!

As someone who hasn't cruised on Celebrity often, I'm always SO confused with what the 'Concierge class' actually is, other than a better location onboard the ship - thanks for confirming it's equally as confusing onboard - that description made me laugh, haha!
This video was posted while my family was taking a cruise on the same ship so this perfect timing. We had a great time and your review was also great to watch
The ship is absolutely beautiful! But with all of the up charges given to guests to try to experience everything or at least more, it’s a bit of a bummer. The perk of a cruise vacation is paying a good set price for the experience.
I went on Edge last year in the "Retreat" (suite) class as a super splurge trip. It was amazing and their Luminae restaurant and private suite deck (for night-time quiet hot tub) were amazing. It was so great we booked and went on Beyond this year in the same class. It's like a different experience in regards to service. We barely ever went out of the Retreat area on either cruise. Now just have to save for 10 years for another, lol... But really beautiful ships
I love how you pointed out the openness of the ship. I was recently on Beyond and I really loved the flow and feel. Whereas before that one I was on the Norwegian Viva and I found it lacking in views and kind of disjointed. Viva also faces the same issue of restrictiing a lot of area, inluding most of the back top deck, to The Haven.
Crazy coincidence, you are the only cruise/travel channel that I watch. I just took my first cruise to Alaska and just so happened to notice the celebrity edge ported in Skagway. I believe we cruised Alaska at the same time without knowing it. I was shocked to see this review at the same time right after I got back.
This is by far my favorite travel channel, been subscribed since you stated it! I would love to see you review a Cunard vessel one day. Keep up the fantastic content!
Loved the video, we're doing this exact trip next year so was good to see the details. And I agree that the partitioning of features and areas based on 'class' is becoming a real issue in the industry. We mostly cruise NCL and are very annoyed at Haven all the time :) I'd be interested in seeing a video dedicated to the pros and cons of it.
We embarked on Edge at Seattle right after your cruise ended. I don't feel it was that crowded onboard, and included food was pretty decent in my view, but these were subjective. The only day and place being crowded in my view was lunch time in buffet the day call in Juneau. The reason is probably that Edge docks at about 1330 in later closed-loop cruises, and everyone would like to have lunch before getting ashore, while the lunch option onboard is somehow very limited (only buffet, one of specialty dining restaurant, and Mast Grill if I don't remember wrong.) Infinite veranda is really great for temperate zone cruising like in Alaska, we almost always open it when we were not sleeping whenever weather is good and the ship wasn't sailing in open ocean. On the other hand, those little perks coming with concierge really isn't worth it, a normal infinite veranda room just gives same cruise experience. In overall, although a lot of amenities are designed for warm regions, Edge is surprisingly good for Alaska, I'd definitely recommend if you're ok not to use either outdoor pool or rooftop garden. Captain Matt held a welcome event in Eden for guests sailing Celebrity the first time. Didn't won lucky draw but had a short chat and a photo with him. He's a cool guy.
Good review. I live in Vancouver, you are so lucky your trip timed up with the northern lights. Something I have never seen in all my days living here until that night.

We will see whether it gets too hot, but I’m certainly going to enjoy the extra space. Having all of those DIY kiosks (with lots of people around to help) really moved things along. The pier staff really kept people moving and headed in the right direction. The crew on the Konningsdam was fantastic and efficient. The cruise definitely felt more traditional which we really liked, the crew very personable.
@@skycaptain3344 I have nothing to compare it to for Alaska but I heard that HAL was excellent for this itinerary and we were not disappointed!
23:36 I was NOT expecting that pan lmao, almost spit out my drink
It was great!
YUS! A new travel review! I was waiting for this after watching all of your reviews, some of those more than once. It's by *far* the best travel reviews I have ever seen, I hope you will take many more vacations! Thank you for your videos.
Smashing it Jake!! I'm always so excited to see your travel videos, I love your honest reviews and commentary.
The water is more than $6. It is 5.50 plus a 20 percent upcharge. So almost $7
Love these videos. Been a fan of your main channel since 2018, and while I love the videos there, your travel videos are some of my favourites. Super entertaining and informative, with great camerawork.
Yes! Another BST video! I'd actually love to see you guys do a review on Seabourn one day!
Yes please do a video on the Ship Within A Ship concept. Fabulous video!! Love your channel.
We found that sailing in a Sky Suite (Celebrity’s smallest suite) was very roomy. The food in Luminae was gourmet quality and the service was top shelf. A superior product compared to Concierge Class on Disney.
Great video! Would love to see you review one of Vikings cruises in the Great Lakes! Really interested in what they offer for what they are charging
Oh I’d absoloutly love to!
Such a great video! Always enjoy your reviews Jake! Hello from Vancouver :-)
I love your travel videos man so well done and look forward to watching whenever I see a new video.
Sounds like you overall had a lovely cruise! Good for you Jake and thanks for the review.
Absolutely I’m loving your cruise videos. Please keep making more!
The water is more than $6. It is 5.50 plus a 20 percent upcharge. So almost $7!
Insane.
I would be drinking it and not paying for it. I’m entitled to it.
@@Farquad76.547 Just bring a water bottle and refill
@@Farquad76.547how are you going to manage that?
Something about Bright Sun’s video at work during my long break with bagel and peanut butter and a cup of tea is too grand. 😌
As a Cruise Consultant ... I HATE the 'ship within a ship' concept. Theyre getting so extreme now. Theyre starting to feel like first class and steerage from Titanic days
Absolutely stunning views! Great content and excellent video review!
the titanic is rolling in its grave the way this ship flexes on it with the maneuverability around ice and the magic carpet
And the separation between "first class" and "steerage" passengers 🤣
What great timing! My wife and I are boarding the Edge for an Alaskan voyage in just two days for our honeymoon! Always love your videos Jake!
I've never been to Alaska but after seeing your review it's definitely on my bucket list! Just beautiful!!
Appetizer.. three chips. I laughed so hard seeing that.
Don’t know if you will ever see this comment but thank you for the comforting videos! I feel like I’ve binged this channel a couple times in the past year or so whenever I’ve been in a rut! I’ll always support you!
That’s really kind of you, thanks!
I just met up with a family member who was on an Alaskan cruise on this exact ship! So glad you made a video of it!
Loved the video, genuinely seems like a fun ship to be on. Definitely would love to have you do a video on the "ship on a ship" topic you mentioned too. But then again, I like all of your content regardless haha so any upload is a good one.
As someone who hasn't cruised on Celebrity often, I'm always SO confused with what the 'Concierge class' actually is, other than a better location onboard the ship - thanks for confirming it's equally as confusing onboard - that description made me laugh, haha!
The educational presentations add a point in my book!
That retractable window is so cool!
"noticeably fresh Caesar salad" I love the small details you include!!
Viva also faces the same issue of restrictiing a lot of area, inluding most of the back top deck, to The Haven.
i love your reviews and this could not have come at a better time ! i’m considering booking with celebrity to alaska for my mums 60th
You have the most thoughtful, detailed coverage. The things you pay attention to are exactly the kind of things that matter.
Thanks for the review! Celebrity Edge docks by my house in Seattle every week this summer, always wanted to see a review on it.
Great review!
My family and I were on that ship last summer; traveling across the Mediterranean sea from Italy to Spain. It was outstanding!
Just finished a Disney cruise to alaska, so looking forward to see what this is like... the scenery is so nice
Painting the Magic Carpet orange just makes it look like a construction crane someone forgot to remove
Thanks! I plan to do the QM2 later this year
Loved the video, we're doing this exact trip next year so was good to see the details. And I agree that the partitioning of features and areas based on 'class' is becoming a real issue in the industry. We mostly cruise NCL and are very annoyed at Haven all the time :) I'd be interested in seeing a video dedicated to the pros and cons of it.
8:15 it wouldnt be a BST video if Jake didnt comment on how good the steak was
Excellent points about the poor use of space, focusing more on up charges and abandoning the rest of the guests.
I always love these videos.
I absolutely love watching these videos and imagining being able to go on a cruise
We embarked on Edge at Seattle right after your cruise ended. I don't feel it was that crowded onboard, and included food was pretty decent in my view, but these were subjective.
The only day and place being crowded in my view was lunch time in buffet the day call in Juneau. The reason is probably that Edge docks at about 1330 in later closed-loop cruises, and everyone would like to have lunch before getting ashore, while the lunch option onboard is somehow very limited (only buffet, one of specialty dining restaurant, and Mast Grill if I don't remember wrong.)
Infinite veranda is really great for temperate zone cruising like in Alaska, we almost always open it when we were not sleeping whenever weather is good and the ship wasn't sailing in open ocean.
Did you stay in the city or did you travel out? We just went to the tea house in Stanley
@@BrightSunTravels I live in North Vancouver so I see the cruise ships sail in and out every summer day.
But also I used to work for celebrity so I have done the sail away from Vancouver. One of the best sail away cities out there I would say.
Looking forward to another great video!
i EAT these videos up, keep them up man!
Yessssss finally a new one of these i love these
People who frequent this cruise LOVE to edge!
Great review! I will be sailing on this ship from Honolulu to Sydney this fall. My cabin will be similar to yours. We will see whether it gets too hot, but I’m certainly going to enjoy the extra space. I’m expecting to spend a lot of time outdoors in warmer weather so hopefully the common areas won’t be too crowded. I’m sorry to hear that the food was disappointing as Celebrity was renowned for their cuisine.
Hello Jake, First off, I love your oceanliner videos-VERY WELL DONE! You should do a video on the history of the French oceanliner SS Normandie, which is, in my opinion, the most beautiful oceanliner ever. Keep up the good work, my friend.
Yes! Talk about the upper class ship area issues
I'll never go on a cruise, but yet I keep watching these reviews because of how well they are done. Also LMFAO at the strawberry men painting!
I was also on this sailing for my first Celebrity cruise. I had a solo Infinite Veranda, and although there really was no storage, I did enjoy just sitting there, looking for whales. I did enjoy the ship, and now since they have made the reciprocal benefits even better with Royal, I won’t hesitate to sail Celebrity again (even though I do like my solo discount on Royal now).
i just saw the edge in junhole the other day! lol
.............and it is one ugly ship too! lol..............
Jake, you never fail to disappoint, I could watch your videos all day, you have a gift and we are the beneficiaries, thank you for all of the wonderful videos, I always look forward to everything you do, keep up the great work.
That’s way too kind of you! Thank you :)
excellent video as always
Excellent review. We were stunned that you all complained about anything at that price. You received an exceptional deal.
We’re looking forward to the next review.
def talk about ships within a ship please!
$40,000 is wild lol, but the views were nice, food being mid is a bummer, and the up charges were kinda ridiculous considering you’re already paying more. But great video, I appreciate you covering these travel destinations!
Great shoots!
Man that one ship, which he briefly referenced here, where they found that free pool table, and then the ships staff came and said "Games Over" and took their pool balls....that haunts my dreams. What a nightmare.
the way you film your partner is just so cute! somehow the framing makes you guys' love tangible
