Great job breaking down locations and actually giving up some spots for others to part take in fishing experiences! I have heard Cook County fishing to be tough, but people have always mentioned Lake Michigan to be a solid place! Dig the video for sure! I’ll be sure to check out some of these for bass fishing! -Fishin’ Dood
Heavy fishing pressure in metropolitan areas, including Chicago. Grew up in Chicago. As kid, fished Lake Michigan in area off Wilson Ave beach. Since I’ve retired, doing many day trips for shore fishing at Fox R & Rock R at public access locations my late Dad took me & brothers to in ‘60s. In 70s, Fox R was pretty polluted and various health agencies warned of eating fish from Fox R. I’m amazed at how clean the Fox R is now. And the Fox R fishery has really bounced back. But, ya’ gots to fish on weekdays to find an ‘ideal’ spot on the banks. Weekends or holidays have banks lined with poles in some areas. Not sure folks know, or care of 2 pole limit. I’ve chatted with many dudes who just stop on lunch hours, or on way home from work to “make a few casts”. Some serious fly fishermen wading on some days. Some kayakers. Know a couple of serous catfishers who live in riverside condo up around Algonquin. Fish at night, off piers. Have multiple photos of big catfish, in 20 to 30lb range. Bluegills for bait. Big cats come into shallow water to feed at night, I guess. Tried Busse Lake once. On the day I went I saw multiple very, very expensive boats downstream of dam….turns out there was a ‘bass tournament’ that weekend….go figure. Interesting to see pictures of musky out of Salt Creek & DesPlaines R. On a side note: fun to see a few juvenile or newly-white headed bald eagles fishing on Desplaines, Fox, & Rock river flowages. My preference for fishing is Northwoods WI or UP. But that’s a long drive. Maybe couple of trips a year North. For salt water fishing, off Sanibel I, or Boca Raton inlet area, as tide goes out.
does anyone know - or have you seen - if I can fish Bussee Woods with my aluminum boat, if I lift the gas engine out of the water and only use my trolling motor?
Not gonna lie, I hate busse woods and I’ve never seen many big fish there. I was surprised to see it at #1. I’ll definitely check out the other spots though
Nice video! I'm originally from Lasalle county and we generally fished the Illinois river and Lasalle lake. I'll forward this video to my brother since he still lives in the area.
Hey man... I just moved to the city and literally am dying to go fishing. I came from about 2 hours south west and am dying to get out on the water. I'm over by Malcome.x
Very informative. I am from Pennsylvania and will be in Chicago for a few days while my fiancé is at a conference. There are fish species there I’ve never caught such as yellow bass. Also here in pa you need an extra license stamp to fish Lake Erie. Do you need one to fish Lake Michigan as well?
Nice video! I have not fished the places you mentioned in this video, but have done well in the Fox River, Dupage River, Illinois River, and other places in Northern Illinois.
Midwest Angling The Fox River is a very good fishery, you are very fortunate to live close to it. It has muskie, pike, smallies, and other species of fish.
Hi I'm trying to find information on places to fish that can be accessed from public transportation because my nerve damage makes it impossible for me to drive. Can anyone here help me by suggesting a place or more I appreciate it very much.
Midwest Angling thanks so much for the feedback. I actually planned a trip there for this weekend with my friend. I'll definitely try for the musky, walleye, and catfish.
Great info for the local folks in your area. Also, that was a really nice touch adding the footage of the different spots as you talked about them.

I've fished at all those spots and caught nothing except bluegill. This is mostly because I suck at fishing.
Good job Jake !
Awesome video man. That's really nice that you shared some of the good fishing spots. Very helpful.
