I have never heard a band which is absolutely fantastic on recordings and even more bloody brilliant live. Mumford & Sons is in my opinion the best!

Ok so I just noticed this. Marcus has a pick both on his mouth as well as on the top of his guitar in the beginning. When he starts singing he gets the one thats on top of the guitar and then drops the one from his lip to the top of the guitar, anddd to add to that he still has 6 more picks on the guitar mic. 4 grey and 2 yellow
The transition from Babel to this song on the album is absolutely amazing!!!
I've seen Foo Fighters, Nickelback, Fun, and Mumford and Sons live, all great bands live but Mumford and Sons was by far the best, unforgettable:)

mumford and sons are the greatest band on the radio today
They said in an interview that about half was made live, Reminder for sure and probably Ghosts that we knew and Lover's eyes aswell. But as you say they're amazing live, i actually prefer pretty much every live version better than their studio versions.
perrineville, the tuning for this song is Drop D - both top & bottom strings tuned down to D. From there it's pretty straightforward, especially if you already know other Mumford songs. The chords are just variants of D, A, Bm and G - it's easy to work out from watching this video.
Anybody notice Marcus starts with a pick in his mouth and one laying on the top of his guitar. He picks with his fingers first then grabs the one on the guitar to quickly strum those first few powerful chords, spits out the one in his mouth onto his guitar, ditches the one in his hand to start picking again, then grabs the one he spit out on top of his guitar to start strumming again later on. That's f*cking genius.
this is by far my new favorite Mumford and Sons song.

Standard tuning, drop your E strings down to D, then your in his tuning, the first note in the song is a D open on the first string, then he bars the bottom half including 4th string on second fret, then he moves to a B minor, back to bar, than to 3rd string on 4th fret plus 6th string on 5th fret, then back to B minor than Bar, than repeat

Yes, that distinctive Mumford & Sons sound is created by open tunings - the main ones they use are Open D, and Open C6, as well as using a capo a lot too. As myself and bmortimore have already said though, this song is a more simple Drop D which I don't think they've used in any other song.

starts on the base note of the chords then goes to highest string , then to 2nd string and then the third before backtothe base ithink. kinda of in gallop, you will need to tune down as well
No it's Double Drop D, the highest string is down to a D too. The only time this string is actually even fretted in this song is on the A chord where he barres the chord (x02222).

I think this will be the next single too. They really seem to enjoy playing it live and promoting it, and it's quite punchy and radio-friendly. The comment about the 'while we are young' bit sounding like One Direction made me laugh too as I was thinking the same; if it does become a single I can imagine people might say they've ripped them off which would be funny as they first wrote this song over 3 years ago!

I said Drop D tuning not Open D tuning. They are two different tunings. Mumford & Sons does almost all there songs in Open D but this particular song he is playing in Drop D. Check out my channel for some covers!
